I'm afraid you're wrong about how Byss was destroyed. Yes, R2 was responsible, but not in the way you mentioned. In Empire's End, the Rebels staged a raid to board the new Star Dreadnought Eclipse II. During the raid, R2 hacked into the astrogation computers and programmed the Eclipse II to fly to Byss. He set the ship on a collision course with the Galaxy Gun. When it arrived, it collided with the Galaxy Gun. While the Eclipse II suffered some damage, the Galaxy Gun was split in two. However, the Galaxy Gun was armed with another of those missiles. I don't recall if they were waiting for Palpatine's order to fire, or the people on the Galaxy Gun, including the designer, decided to take the initiative and fire it themselves. In either case, I believe the target was Onderon. However, when the Eclipse II collided with the Galaxy Gun, the collision and subsequent destruction caused the Galaxy Gun to fire. But when it fired, the part of the Galaxy Gun from which the missiles were shot was aimed at Byss. So the missile destroyed Byss, and the destruction of Byss finished the destruction of the Galaxy Gun, along with destroying the orbiting fleet and the Eclipse II.

Lets be honest... this is 40k levels of bad writing that Byss was destroyed using the galaxy gun and the entire system because R2D2 managed to somehow get onboard the station... its lazy and stupid to think that a single droid managed to do all that. But considering the "new" era of star wars writing... its like its being made by actual children who have no sense of tension, loss, or in general dont like seeing the good guys lose at all if not even slightly. And that even the most simple of droids are somehow able to singlehandedly destroy every single thing. If R2 could do that to the galaxy gun... why the hell didn't he just do that with the deathstar and cause its cores to melt down or set the deathstars laser to fire in reverse...? This is just all massive hogwash garbage writing in my opinion. And it really shows the writers for star wars have basically lost all hope and all desire to make anything good anymore.
