    Palpatine's greatest mistake was lying to Vader by telling Vader he had killed Padme. With the lie, Vader stopped being a Sith Lord and become a monster of the dark side.
    A Sith Lords to be a master of the force and all those around him or her, to break away their chains. In a way a Sith Lord seeks to be a tyrant to all others to be freedom for him or herself.
    Believing he killed Padme, Vader turned all his rage into himself. This is was truly twisted him from a monster that could not be reasoned with. In a form of mental self-flagellation he believed he should suffer as greatly as possible, and because he suffered, everyone around him should suffer. This is why he did not upgrade his cybernetics, or seek to heal his body.
    Vader can to view unrestrained pain and rage as the pure expressions of the darkside. Where as a Sith Lord views passion and power in measured by one's skill in the darkside as the pure expression of the darkside.
    Vader believe in piling more mental chains on himself, where a Sith Lord would seek to break all their chain, both physical and mental.
    This is why when Vader found out the truth about Luke, he started to stop hating himself because he realized that Palpatine had lied to him. Though, while much of Vader's rage had diminished some, with that rage replaced with near fanatic zeal to capture his son. Combined with two decades of bad habits, no one realize noticed the change under the armor.
    This is why he spared the imperial officer at the end of Empire Strikes Back, after Luke, Leia, and others escaped Cloud City. Vader was running on desperation and was to emotionally drained to feel like killing one.
    Also, it was clear through the Empire Strike Back, Vader was killing his officers out of more sadistic humor, than anger.

    This all feels like a result of Palpatine's method of corrupting Anakin. In the end technically Anakin only really desired the power to bring back Padme, not the power to dominate like a Sith. Palpatine failed to get that spark burning for Vader. He never really motivated Vader to be more.
    This probably even was intentional because Palpatine sought to become the sole ruler of the galaxy. Him establishing his rule of one only encourages this. Palpatine himself never knew or trained his apprentices to replace him as he wanted to stay on forever.

      Very true if you look at Vader’s 2 predecessors, neither one of them could have become powerful enough to defeat Sidious. Maul was very much an enforcer similar to Vader, and Dooku, while very powerful in the force himself, held too strongly to his own political ideals and just saw joining the Sith as a means to that end. Palpatine purposely chose apprentices who he knew wouldn’t possess the level of curiosity or drive to seek ancient Sith knowledge and studying the Dark Side to the degree he did.

    • @clownplayer7265
      @clownplayer7265 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's precisely what leads to Palpatine's demise.
      For Palpatine, everybody is desiring to become the top dog, or at least that's how he sees fit.
      The rebellion sparked not because of "top dogs" contenders but because his harsh control freak desires in the shape of the empire made people hate him. The reason why Luke didn't get corrupted was because he could see beneath what the dark side does to his mind and didn't want to succumb like the father he tries to save out of love. And the reason why Vader never fully embraced the sith was because he only embraced the dark side as tool and never as the objective itself.
      Sidious' manipulations only work as long as he's already in a situation of advantage, in a situation of offerings and exchanges or by taking advantage of obvious emotional turmoils. But at his core he could never understand people's complexities at all and died because he couldn't even predict Vader's love for his own son gave him the strength to finally kill him.
      He only cared for Anakin's potential power but never realized his manipulation ticked off the wrong buttons.

  • @venkelos6996
    @venkelos6996 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

    I certainly feel that Vader was a poor Ro2 Sith, and I feel, as the video mentioned, that a fair bit of that didn't even have to do with his injuries, and confinement to his suit. If Sidious could have dipped him in some kolcta, and regenerated him fully, or used some Sith Alchemy, he still would have lost everything, and been less for it, but I feel that a part of his failure was simply that Vader never had to live as something else. And yes, he wad once a slave, and a Chosen One, and a Jedi, but he was openly all these things, and never had to masquerade as something "lesser". He had to hide his marriage, and rail against his failure to be acknowledged as a Master, but he wasn't shaped by his need to conceal his power, goals, or the like, in the ways the Ro2 Sith did. Even when he was Vader, he was openly a Force-user, and enforcer of the Empire. He wasn't a secret Hand, pretending to be something else, and I feel like his lack of needing to hide everything, and build up toward the day he might not need to deprived him of the ability to accept what he couldn't have, because it became a permanent loss, instead of a temporary absence, and goal to overcome, secretly.
    The funny thing us, the Emperor obviously wanted Skywalker; had high hopes for Vader, and so it's maybe odd that he seemed to be totally taken by surprise how disappointing Vader turned out to be, even though some of the things he lost Sidious would have made sure he lost anyway. Those losses were what was going to grow Vader's power, and were things typical Sith Lords didn't keep longterm, if you will, and since Palpatine had invested so much time in observing Anakin, it's odd that he never realized how poorly Vader would internalize such things, which I feel he would have been bad at, even in his flesh and blood form, with all of his potential intact. He simply would have been even more difficult to restrain, once his rage overtook him, which I feel Palpatine did appreciate the suit, and its limits, for.

  • @detachedbottom8924
    @detachedbottom8924 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    It's interesting that the Jedi couldn't help Anakin deal with his emotions of grief and fear of loss any more than Sidious and the Sith could help Vader when that loss and grief eventually came to pass. Both institutions failed Anakin, and as a result he ends up toppling both of them.

  • @HistoryPoliticsFiction
    @HistoryPoliticsFiction 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I would say the problem was how the Emperor brought Vader over to the Darkside. Other Sith turned to grow their own power in order to dominate. Vader didn’t. His goal was to have his wife and his unborn child/children in his life. To keep them safe. When he duels Kenobi his mindset is correct for the Sith but he hasn’t been tempered. The death of his love and children removes his motivation. Once Luke is introduced the motivation comes back immediately. The Emperor assumed he could control and motivate Vader with the same things that drove him. This is foolish. It would have been better to take a different tact: use Vader’s own mindset to push him. For example: a lack of control could have killed Luke or Leia. Vader showed that control when he felt it necessary. Palpatine should have put Vader in situations where control was the way forward. He should have appealed to Vader’s pride.

    Anakin always planned to kill Sideous and end the Sith as well as the Jedi. It is stated as much in the RotS novelization. He held on to the dark side, but he had no real interest in trading one version of the jedi order for another.
    It makes sense that he wantonly killed officers and caused destruction as he sees fit. The whole allure of the darkside is the power and freedom to do anything he wishes. And technically the rule of 2 was fulfilled when the Empire was established, so there is no real need to further the goals of the Sith. He was well within his rights to do whatever the hell he pleased.

    I've always found Palpatine's so-called disappointment with Vader to be hypocritical. If it wasn't for Vader, Windu would've killed him in his own office. And even though he survived the encounter, he was all messed up, from his own power being reflected back at him lol. I'd also like to know how much time Palpatine actually spent training Vader. Between running a Galactic Empire, hunting down surviving Jedi and dealing with a full-blown rebellion, when would they have had the time? Not to mention, Palpatine doesn't have the best track record when it comes to apprentices. Maul bisected...Dooku beheaded, Vader put into a robotic iron lung for the rest of his life just to survive. If anything, Palpatine was the weak link in the thousand-year-old chain Bane created.

      They're both pretty inconsistent. Albeit in different ways.
      A natural consiquence of multiple writers which is itself a byproduct of Star Wars having all of that content.
      The most inconsistent part of current Star Wars canon were the movies and a few of the shows and comics, however, outside of the Sequels, there is actual care taken to try and maintain some level consistency (emphasis on "some). This is compared to Legends' multiple comics, novels, and video games that have inconsistencies just from the fact that there are multiple writers alone and many of them haven't really done that deep dive into almost 30 years of comics, novels, and video games required for total consistency.
      Even before Disney took over, The Clone Wars was retconning/decanonizing entire chunks out of Legends and there were talks about removing Legends canon even back in 2008.
      Just from the amount of it all the Legends continuity is *_way_* more inconsistent, especially since even back in the 80s and with the Prequels in the 2000s, every new movie basically flatlined a lot of EU lore (the gap between Episode VI and the release of Episode I, Episode III and TCW, and the end of TCW Season 6 up until the eventual decanonizing of most of Legends sometime in 2014 are largely what allowed for the EU to go on without getting retconned; in other words, 20+ years of content written by different writers working for different companies generally leads to more consistency problems).
      But being inconsistent does not innately mean bad, and the shows and movies in the current canon that are inconsistent aren't bad because of that. They're bad because they made terrible writing choices.

    He couldn’t commit to the Sith Order bcuz he could never move on from Padme like his main reason for becoming a Sith in the first place was to prevent Padme from her fate but also i don’t think his intentions was to rule the galaxy alongside Palpatine his plan was to learn and master all he could from Sidious’s teachings and then one day kill Palpatine off and rule the galaxy in his own way as he saw fit alongside Padme and his children but not in the way Sidious did or other Sith from before in fact he had different ideas for a different approach to expanding his reign over the galaxy for his own purposes in his own right. Anakin/Vader never intended to fully commit or subject himself to a dark side order that he didn’t care for all he wanted was to preserve his family’s legacy and utilized the dark side by its full extent achieving his full potential like he could have if not for his defeat on Mustafar, his grief and regret alongside his injuries are what held him back but most of all mentally as he grew nihilistic of his place in the world. Vader straight out conspired with Padme that he would overthrow the Emperor to have her by his side but after being lied to by Sidious and overcoming his injuries during her passing he was left without purpose in life as far as ambition except for revenge and Palpatine to look up to until came his son Luke. The Jedi Order wanted Anakin to be the perfect light side champion for their cause but under Sidious he wanted Vader to be the perfect ideal Sith in the same way as Darth Malgus despite their similarities in contrast Vader would’ve came out being more like Valkorion rather than Malgus if he hadn’t been injured by his duel with Obi Wan overall i do think Vader would have made the “Perfect” and MOST powerful dark side wielder just not the perfect Sith in the way Sidious always wanted (philosophically) the same way the Jedi Order wanted for Anakin to be in their way

    Vader was a poor rule of two Sith lord because he was really just a poor Sith. He really joined the Because he saw it as his only way to help Padme and because he felt like the Jedi would never understand him or his actions. Virtually every other rule of two believed in the goals of the rule of two. On his own Vader, never really adhered to those tenets or ideas. Just practicing an ideology does not mean you are subscribed to it. Both in legends and Cannon everything that Vader is shows that he was not really subscribed to the tenants of the role of two.

    Palp sold Vader on the wrong things, he clearly didn't want that. The issue was that Vader only found out when he already turned to the dark side and was too deep in it. No Padme, no kids (that he know of until late), no friends.

    the first mistake sidious made was not training anakin since he was a child so he didn't get poisoned by the jedi teachings. bane took zannah as a child as his apprentice so she would be born in the dark and not be a risk of being turned back to the light had she been trained by the jedi and he turned her from the light.

    Palpatine knew what he was getting into with Anakin, both good and bad. Him being disappointed with Vader is just projection. He created Vader from the beginning, giving Anakin visions that would eventually lead him to seek out the dark side of the force. He knew Anakin had emotional problems...Its not Vaders fault that Palpatine went ahead with his flawed plan.

    Two ideas come to mind.
    Previous sith had an enemy and/or a bigger war at hand to guide their actions. Why hone your abilities if there is no one to fight.
    If darth vader killed palpatine what would be gained that vader didnt already have access to?
    I see vaders actions as if i sink the ship in the middle of the ocean i will win but i will nothing.

    Sidious only saw Anakin power. It never dawned on him that he was making a fatal choice until after 66. Anakin was a man of deep feelings and spent his formative years as the greatest soldier Jedi in the Order. After his fall Vader continued that philosophy. He wasn’t about getting power to rule or expand the Sith. He wasn’t about mining Sith lore for secrets. That was the Emperor’s motivation. For Vader peace and order came through unwavering obedience and loyalty. It’s why Sidious was always bristling and complaining that Vader could never expel Anakin completely. So yes, Vader was not good for rule of 2.

    Vader was a bad rule of 2 era sith but a great ancient sith.
    This because of the term Darth which in legends ment unconquerable. Darth was only given to those of the warrior cast of sith which vader would fit the bill. Sidous would fall under sith sorcerer as his knowledge of the dark side allowed him to manipulate his enemies ftom afar.
    During the wars with the jedi it was the warrior sith who faced the Jedi in combat supported by the sorcerer sith. It was because of these clashes that Jedi assumed the title Darth ment one who is a master of the dark side much like how a Jedi knight is. (Apprentice = padawan, Darth = Knight, lord = master, Emporer = grand master)
    Over time the title lost its original meaning and became a title for any one who was a sith lord. The rule of two cemented this as every sith took the title darth in their sith name. Sidous never caught on to this fact due to the loss of knowledge overtime. Had Sidous knew he might have been more hands on with Vader's training.
    As with Malgus Vader was held back by the one he loved however unlike Malgus Vader never realized that his connection with Padme is what kept him from killing Sidous. It was only thru Luke that he summoned the strength to kill his master.
    However that is just my take.

    Anakin,(Darth Vader) Only became sith due to heart break and loss He betrayed the Jedi only to save Padme once she was gone nothing really mattered to him anymore. A true Sith wants power and immortality he really had nothing until he learned his son survived. if he really was ambitious I feel he would have sought a way to upgrade his suit and his prosthetics in order to regain his full ambulatory range making him an actual threat to the emperor......Jussayin.....lol!!

    Sidious was a master at manipulation but never seemed to truly understand people. He never understood Vader's pain because he gained everything in the rise of the Empire while Vader lost everything that ever mattered to him. And by this time, Vader knew better than to believe everything his master said, which is probably why Sidious's emotional manipulations weren't as effective on him.
