(Update 2024-09-26: This seems to be fixed?) Apparently if you watch this at any of the 30fps options (480p or below), the audio and video will desync. There is no desync at the 60fps options. I have never heard of this problem before and don't know why it's happening, and I also don't know whether there's anything I can do about it because the sync is totally fine on the video file I uploaded. Sorry about that.
For me it happened around the time you got the Gale Boomerang. Definitely something screwy happened TH-cam's end where they somehow deleted a lot of visual frames for the lower quality encodes. [insert joke about Cosmic Rays causing a bit flip here]
My husband has a bad cold and needs to take a nap -- literally what perfect timing....!! I also struggle a lot with insomnia and your commentaries are one of the extremely few things that knock me out -- im ever so grateful for that. Of course, i always have a giggle mid falling asleep when i hear the "take my midna back to the midna store to get a replacement or refund" LMAO
I thought I was the only one that did this! It works bizarrely well, but the points of silence where there's nothing for him to comment on damages its effectiveness for me (I've considered directly asking making a video edit, honestly). Still helps a lot.
In this entire 5 hour commentary, the coolest new trivia about Twilight Princess I learned is one you didn't even get to utilize, which is the Cave of Ordeals floor with the poe automatically setting the world to nighttime
Hi. Thank you for doing this. When I was little I would hang out with my grandma while she played Zelda, and she would talk to me about what Was she doing, and I would read the guidebook to her. this reminds me of that.
What do you do for a living that you can get away with that? I can sometimes get away with that, but I’m a firefighter, some days I can’t get away with any time to chill and others it’s chilling all but an hour.
Generally the commentary is the part that takes a long time. For this one, the commentary was live, so that only took 5 hours, but making the TAS was the part that took a very long time.
I always put your runs on the background while I study and almost every time I start paying attention to the video more than my college work especially with the commentary!!!!!
I was wondering what was wrong with my video until reading the description and oh okay some foul curse is cast upon this video I see. Understandable. I will enjoy this video in 720p or higher then, thank you for the FIVE HOURS OF CONTENT
It took 3 watches of this to fully digest, one being the live stream. and man did I love every second of it. The pots especially was some of the coolest tech I've seen, as well as, as bad as it must've been to tas, the wiggle break slides and the fast swimming. The water slide staring in the water temple was very funny too. And now I need other tp stuff to watch- OH RIGHT, that record, gotta finish watching that. Great, great, work.
Well, I know what I'm going to listen to during my shift at work today! These commentated speedrun videos always help me as pleasant background noise whenever I need to work or fall asleep. Thanks for this and great work on the TAS!
That was a long journey but you showed insane dedication by finishing this TAS in 4 months only. I hope you learned a lot because I did at least and it encouraged me to try this at some point myself because experimenting what is possible is something I really like to in this game. Great work!
23:24 Having only played the Wii version (and hero mode WiiU) I have a similar experience watching game cube footage. I look at it, and I don't think, "that's what the original looks like," I think "that's what the speedrun looks like". Weird beans
You can feel the love and dedication that went into this. I loved hearing you get excited about all the ideas you cooked up that were validated by the process. You’re a master of the craft beest, this is a work of art 💖
Let's goo! I caught the live reveal near the end of it and decided to just watch it from the beginning on youtube. I'll watch this first, then get back to the new hundo video.
I love to see a wii tas! It's cool to see the tricks you can pull off with the pointer; I like the "trust me guys when I was little" fan trick lmao. Reminds me of when I did boss key skip *in Lakebed temple when I played this game back then too
I was thinking about this comment, and I remembered I didn't skip the boss key, I just sequence broke getting to the platform. I think skipping the boss key was a bit beyond me back then lmao
I was just thinking about how beest hasn't uploaded here a ton lately and came to the conclusion that you must've been workin' on something big, glad to see i was right
beest, I wanted u to know I have recommended ur vids as an insomnia cure to 3 ppl, as of today, in the 2 years I've been watching u, and u gained 3 new, dedicated followers of ur content (and subs) who now love drifting off to ur runs as much as I n thousands of others do You da be(e)st
I'm sure someone mentioned it elsewhere in the comments but if you wanna fix your wii sensor bar pointer spazzing out, just replace the "sensor" bar with two small candles. The actual infrared sensor is in the wiimote, the "sensor bar" is just two IR lights for it to use as a frame of reference, which two candles can replicate very brightly from its perspective
I watched your tas without commentary first to watch and I didn't realize you were playing with Wii U graphics until I saw the sewers map at 2:13:48 (I grew up on the Wii version but I'm used to the Wii U graphics) and I was really confused for a second. Really impressive tas!
Glad you enjoyed! But it is the original version's graphics. The SD version can natively run at 1080p. It's just the Wii console itself that is limited to 480p, but since this TAS needed to be done on emulator, that didn't apply.
It's absolutely wild to me how Twilight Princess doesn't have a way to change day to night other than one weird dungeon exit in Arbiter's Ground and Floor 16 Cave of Ordeals. I wonder how much time it would save in each category to have a way to change time of day?
There are a few other ways, but no fast and portable way. Something like OoT's Sun's Song would probably save a little time in 100%. Time of day matters very little outside of glitchless and 100%, but if it were possible to change time of day instantaneously, it might save a few seconds in any%/all dungeons by skipping the bulblin archer cutscenes in the desert.
30:28 "please point the pointer in the direction of the screen" is basically what it said (guy who majors in korean language and needs translation practice)
I think this is a weird problem on TH-cam's end. When I opened the video on YT and went to that timestamp, the audio was desynced, but I also noticed it had defaulted to 360p. I switched it to 1080p, the video did a little reload thing, and now the audio is synced perfectly. I also double checked the local video file I uploaded to YT and it's also totally in sync. So tldr I guess just reload if that happens, sorry. (edit: Played with it some more, audio seems to desync whenever I go to a resolution lower than 720p. No clue why.)
Everything above 480p is in 60 fps, so it is likely a "frame rate" issue of some kind. I wanna say this is a known issue but I'll do my part and submit a bug report!
i was 10 and this game came out. i love to see a thriving and active speed comunity. i cant waint to get the old girl running and put up a time of my own
@bewildebeest ill have to figure out how you do the over lay for the controller and vido capture. I'll have time. The power cable came in. But it sounds like it's not spinning the dice. Hopefully, I can fix this And get my GC running
seeing the TAS movement with the dominion rod statues makes me wish it came back in a future zelda game imagine a BOTW-like with controllable statues you can take almost anywhere in hyrule
4:35:22 (re: how ganon's puppet zelda bossfight attacks are determined) if you consider the wait time to _be_ an attack, then it's consistent- random numbers are polled as late as possible, to determine zelda's patterns. The frame before/of the attack starting polls RNG to determine which attack to use, and the frame before/of the idling wandering around starting polls RNG to determine which type of wandering around to use. Makes sense to me.

I just came back to finish the last 40% of this vid and it's the first time I've seen this issue
For me it happened around the time you got the Gale Boomerang. Definitely something screwy happened TH-cam's end where they somehow deleted a lot of visual frames for the lower quality encodes. [insert joke about Cosmic Rays causing a bit flip here]
Omg thank you i had auto on and it switched to 480, i thought i was going crazy lol
I was watching the arbiters ground boss and thought "damn he's really going ham on that head way after he one cycled it"
I started to notice this when you got the cradle back from the monkey XD
It’s MY sleepover and **I** get to choose the movie

a TAS group commentary without one person with an earsplittingly bad microphone? Amazing!❤🎉
We did put effort into making the audio good
Hi. Thank you for doing this. When I was little I would hang out with my grandma while she played Zelda, and she would talk to me about what Was she doing, and I would read the guidebook to her. this reminds me of that.
I watched the entire thing over an 8 hour shift at work and man is it hard to look like I’m working while enamored by bizarre twitchy breaksliding
Your coworkers will all be jealous when they see you brakeslide up to work tomorrow
What do you do for a living that you can get away with that? I can sometimes get away with that, but I’m a firefighter, some days I can’t get away with any time to chill and others it’s chilling all but an hour.
Speedrun commentaries and this channel specifically are seriously some of the absolute best things on this entire platform
I’m sure the commentated videos must be a pain to make, but I love them soooo much!!

The entire reason I made this TAS was to sabotage your OoT rando
