23:20 I appreciate the arrows whenever you show this scene, it makes it so much clearer what is/isn't a stalactite, gate, and vine, something I had no other way of knowing
Love this style of video from you. The little editing gags were a nice touch and made me laugh a good few times. Thank you for letting me know that the wall was not a stalactite.

I'm so glad I found you like two years ago. Easily my favorite speedrunner at the moment and one of the reason are these type of videos! Phenomenal job! So informative, nice editing with the little gags here and there, and so well commentated :)
I don't know much about the other versions of TP and I am glad you made this video to show how broken the other versions also are with their game exclusive glitches used in Hundo. Also wtf was that sick flip at 50:50? I have never seen a backflip go forward
This kind of technical breakdown and comparison is really interesting and fun to watch. Has to be a lot of editing work though. Thank you for making these. Twilight Princess holds a special place for me and your Speedrun content has been a great way to relive it.
The mad ladd did it!! I remember in one of your runs you siad you might not fully explain the differences because it was long and im glad you decided to do it!
Okay I gotta say- i am a very casual speedrun watcher, and feel like I was getting at most 80% of the jargon in this video, but (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) your voice and the background music helped me get to sleep almost instantly
I love how you explained this!! Everything's so detailed and yet not hard to understand, and I absolutely love this form of video from you. I love watching the 6 or so hour VODs on your Twilight Princess speedruns in my free time, and I've wanted an explanation for all the cool time saves and tricks you've done for so long. This video explains it all so well, keep it up Beest!!
Learned so much from this, and have a new appreciation for 100%. Always been an intimidating category for me, and just having this mass of info condensed and sped through really helped get my head around it better. Always fun learning more stuff about TP :)
This entire video is incredibly fascinating, but 46:11 completely baffled me. How did you even find out the two gates are correlated to begin with? (Great video by the way, always like your commentated stuff and I'd love to see more content like this in the future if you're up to it.)
Thanks! The relationship between gates was discovered soon after TPHD came out in 2016. I have no idea who or how, though. I assume people noticed the City gate missing and investigated.
A couple of things this made me think: -Nice “with current knowledge” addendum on 2:10 -The white text bits are so good -I loved the music timings, also this made me realize that the full Ook song is a banger, as we usually only get to hear the beginning. -I guess it's under the "general controls" talk, but I'm surprised you didn't specifically mention the Epona camera/controlling differences (other than the backflip) I’m glad you went in-depth on it, this is a damn good video... So when is that 300% speedrun happening?
Thanks! Yeah, there were quite a few smaller things like camera, Epona, and quick transforms that I didn't end up mentioning at all, but I was just more interested in talking about things that forced the runs to be different rather than things that forced the runner to play differently. If you want to hear a bit more Ook, check out a Forest Temple No Save and Quit run, which only ever gets the wooden sword. And 300%... uhh... umm..... well.......
amazing video, enjoyed it with a friend of mine. always love these sorts of videos from you. first time i've noticed that pink hedgehog, though, considering i can never make it to streams... then proceeded to draw the guy. not exactly sure where to put it.
As a twilight princess huge fan, I’d love to speedrun the game but I’m too busy to ready everything to be able to run the game, but this video was very very awesome and made me think about finally trying to run the game after almost 20 years of playing TP
Happy to see some appreciation for the Wii version of the game. I've always wanted to get into TP speedrunning, just for fun mainly, but I only have the Wii version available to me. For many years I was told that the Wii version will always be inferior to the GC and HD versions of the game, and it made me extremely disappointed. Recently, however, after seeing videos like this and being exposed to more TP Wii runners, I can safely say that no version of TP is inferior. Each are unique and interesting, and just as fun. Thanks for the amazing video.
Glad you enjoyed! I'm not sure which Wii runners you've been exposed to already, but the ones who've been active recently and streaming runs on Twitch are An_D_TP, bdamja, Little_Tuffy, ZootySuzy, and meewix. Check 'em out if you're interested!
34:16 Oh, by “everywhere at once” you mean NaN, huh, it is pretty weird that all NaN coordinates causes you to activate any load zone, rather than not hitting any as Id expect.
My guess is that instead of checking if Link is in the loading zone, it checks that he is nowhere other than the loading zone, and because comparisons to NaN always return false, Link is determined to be "not outside the loading zone." This is just pure speculation on my part, though, so take it with a grain of salt.
I really love how many times that one part of Lakebed Temple showed up, and every time it had a different, funny caption. Well done! Now clearly this means you'll make a similar video for 100%+, yeah?

46:07 If I recall correctly, this is largely due to the same sort of flag system that boss flags observe. There's a flag by that gate in Lanayru temple that says whether or not you've opened it. It doesn’t get activated until you're in the room with the gate which is why the any% run for the HD version has Link going in that room for a few seconds and then immediately turning around and leaving. The reason this works is that the gate in City in the Sky calls the same flag to check whether or not the gate is supposed to be open and its reversed. Meaning thay the flag being false for the Lanayru temple gate actually opens the one in City in the Skies. Theres a lot more examples of certain game areas using the same flags in Skyward Sword and It was found out because BiT doesnt work in the same way in Skyward Sword but can be used to manipulate certain triggers in Skyview and apply them to your save file. All in all, pretty interesting stuff.
No, it's not related to whether either gate has been opened, it's that loading one causes the other to fail to load entirely (not to be open). I've just added Dragonbane's full technical explanation to the bottom of the video description in case you're interested.
I watched a tas of tp gcn any % some time ago (fuckin love that video still) so i kinda knew some of the gcn things coming, always made me curious how not having a lot of that would make things harder so im glad to see this come up in my reccomended. 33:06, so just from a aspiring game dev perspective, there's really only two likely scenarios that I see #1 the different tunics, including wolf link are different level objects, and those level objects are likely stored either to the player, player camera, or the map origin. possibly with an offset. whereever in the level these objects are stored, wolf link's objects and the tunics probobly have a different offset than the tunics just for organization purposes in the debugging process. how it would normally work is that when you're swapping out different characters, the hero's tunic teleported in place of the zora tunic, and that's all well and good. but by crossing paths, the wolf pseudo-tunic would get displaced because there's not proper graphics, or coordinates for it. #2 it could be a problem with raw logic. let's say all the character states are stored values, and there obviously wouldn't be one for zora + wolf, and you can't have two values occupy the same slot, so they constantly override eachother. this i feel is less likely, because it would be easy to make a failsafe or even just a priority system. but this could also be the case if, instead of setting values, the game checks and applies math in order to get those values. so you set it to an invalid value, zora (5) + wolf (10) = tunic 15, and there is no tunic 15, but this is what the game assumes is true from the math.
48:52 "but for some reason, the fans rotate more slowly on HD, making it easier to reach the top without missing the cycle." what do you mean, for some reason? isn't that the reason? I mean, the 3D and HD remasters are an oppertunity for Aonuma to go back and fix many of the little problems with the original games, and revise his work, and this is one of the things that he noticed apparently. simple.
when i was playing the hd remaster after the gamecube version, i noticed the collision seemed a bit off. wolf link appeared to be less safe to use when dealing with armos and controls in general felt a bit clunkier. the cube version overall did feel a bit smoother to play now it could also be that i was playing it on a crt monitor which could also explain why.
