His game is beautiful to watch. Touches of genius. Powerful when charging forward with the ball, defenders can’t knock him down. He can turn the game around in flashes with lovely turns and dribbles
When you contrast England’s current (side to side to back) passing and (lack of) attacking drive in everything they have done in Germany 24’ with Gazza’s style of play, his genius, creativity and constant ambition to attack from the instant he receives the ball its shocking. There is nothing like him in an England shirt nor has there been since he wore that strip.

3:04 Amazing run almost as if the other team don't exist... and then he squares it.Devastating way to take hold of a game. Can you imagine being on the opposing side and watching that happening? He brought his best to international games in a way that lots of other England greats weren't able to do. We had some fantastic results when he was in the team. Thanks Paul for all the memories!
He had the potential to be a legend, if he was managed by someone strict like Alex Ferguson and took things seriously he’d have been in the debate about Best, Pele, Cruyff, Ronaldo, Messi etc!
Before I knew of him, I saw this guy onTV, power his way up midfield like a Tank, wow, who the hell is this guy I thought. .... It was 'Gazza'!! Unfortunately I missed seeing his Golden Years as i worked abroad at the time. Never seen the like since.
I was just thinking about how good Paul Gascoigne was and that he would be amazing in the current team, then I watched this and was blown away that he was even better than I remember, could have been one of the best ever
A Wimbledon fan here and watch Gazza play a few times but not when Vinnie grabbed his Crown Jewels 😂 One of the best players to pull on the England jersey a class act and joker always had a smile on his face👍 Good to see Gazza and Vinnie are mates now go fly fishing together etc.
I remember for years after his retirement, everyone would say 'England are waiting for another Gazza, a playmaker who can dribble past defenders at will.' McManaman was the closest we got. What we didn't realize is that we would never find his type of player again. Really was one of a kind, not just for England but in the world. He was an English Maradona.
Rooney didn't quite have Gazza's dribbling technique. But he ran at defenders with the same fearlessness as Gazza before he was 20. That fearlessness taking people on was trained out of him in Man Utd
thanks for showing us this old footage of a geordie legend in depth too so people can see how adept n skillful he was! As for the Jude Bellingham comparisons lets give Jude 10 years and then see! The way the net is now players are judged on a daily basis but back then Gazza had nowt but the daily papers n news broadcasts. To be a legend you have to build it!
I'm old enough to have watched Prime Gazza, Newcastle, Spurs, Lazio. Did he do it enough, no, nor did he do it for long enough and yes he was always injured. But when he turned it on and he really really wanted it, on his day, he was the best player in the world.
This guy was my hero growing up, he had talent to waste. Unfortunately he did waste it. But let’s not forget what an amazing player he was, imagine the greatness he could have achieved if he had the right people around him.
He was one of the most gifted player I've ever seen - definitely Top Five. It says a lot about him when Alex Ferguson picks him out as the best English player since Bobby Charlton. It's a pity it all went downhill after that stupid challenge during the FA Cup final v Nottingham Forest, when he tore his cruciate ligaments. He was never the same player since then. 😢
I’ve been privileged to see some incredible goals live in my life, Rooney’s over head kick, Bale’s overhead kick, Van persie’s Volley against Villa. But seeing Gazzas Euro 96 goal against Scotland has always stayed with me as one of the most memorable goals I’ve ever seen. The flick over Hendrys head, the goal, the celebration. What a player he was.
What is he doing with the ball, he’s receiving it but instead of passing it back or sideways like 99% of midfielders today he is dribling past the opposing players…absolutely crazy 😳
Gazza sheer brilliance and that geordie grin what's not to admire about him when he was in the mood could take on a whole opposition single handed what a player back then.
I think he was a lot more relaxed in Scotland ( mentally ). Nobody pestering the fella . Opposition wasn't anywhere as good as he had faced previously. I'm 76 yrs of age, a Scot , and he is the best English player in my lifetime. Charlton , Greaves , Haynes , Paul Scholes , Duncan Edwards , all great players , but Paul, for me, the top man . Best wishes to you, Gazza .
I think he peaked in the 90/91 season after the world cup,had a season ticket that year and he was unbelievable, plus he looked a proper athlete, then he got the knee injury in the fa cup final and he wasnt quite the same after that, still a great player but just lost some of that pace and strength, still made up for it with pure skill though
Before his cruciate injury for Tottenham he was really something special . Bryan Robson said he lost some of his balance , acceleration with that injury , not the same player . The way gazza danced around defenders moving it from one foot to the other so quickly . I have never seen any England player who could do that , he moved like a ballerina .
People talk about all these English players past and present and there has been some brilliant midfield players for England Bobby Charlton, Bryan Robson, Bobby moore, Steven Gerard, Paul scholes now Bellingham or Foden. Put them all together and they still couldn’t lace Gazzas boots.
By a country mile the best English footballer I’ve seen in my life Time and I’m 42

Of course the likes of scholes, Gerrard and lampard had long successful careers but when it comes down to footballing talent no one could touch Gazza
George Best
Best was better than Gaza I agree, of course he was, even better at dribbling.
@@paulanthony5274 Better at drinking too
@@PatrickKelly-lz3pv 😂😂
George Best was a better footballer and could drink Paul under the table.
Watched him live at Spurs, especially the season after Italia 90 when he was literally on fire, and had not yet had the cruciate injury. He was an absolute genius passing and dribbling, thank god there is more TV footage than there was for George Best, but still not ever minute was recorded in those days. I hope Foden and Bellingham watch this for inspiration as they have similar potential, and I have not said that since Gazzas days.
Foden and Bellingham are nothing like gazza no player playing in today's fake game are anything like gazza
Closest player to ever compare to gazza was a young Wayne Rooney nobody else comes close
Also shows how poor quality today's game is when declan rice is regarded as the best defensive midfielder in world football, and donkey haaland is the best striker 😂🤣oh and let's not forget Good old Harry maguire 🤪🤦♂️
@@aus2230 I have played and watched football as a Spurs fan all the way through 80 and 90s to to day and so I am sure I have watched more live Paul Gascoigne than you. The reason Gazza stood out was he was so much more technically gifted than his peers. He would be sensational today. However his peers were David Batty, Carlton Palmer and Vinnie Jones. The pkayers today are vastly more technically gifted than the First division players Gazza rang rings round. If you knew anything about modern football you would know that.
@@neilboulton9813 I'm 49 I've supported spurs since I was 9 years old do the math, so your saying Gazza only did his bag of tricks around players like Charlton palmer vinnie Jones ect🤣😂🤦♂️🤪 as you say you have watched more of gazza than anyone 😂 he went to the best league in the world at the time serieA recovering from his cruciate damaged knee and he still played like a god so stop speaking utter 💩a well known ex player a great of yesteryear said about today's players if you can run all day and pass 5 yards you will have a career in the Premier league which is true, David batty by the way wasn't a division 1 player he was brilliant in his position a great anchor man played in a quality Leeds and Blackburn team, players of today's game are not more technically gifted their fitter and faster but play like robots their all clones no individual flair just runners and divers.
People rave about Bellingham, Foden, Saka etc but if you could combine them all into one player , Gazza would still make him look ordinary.
Gerrard and Scholes make those three look ordinary. John Barnes was on another level to all three of those too. Gazza was incredible.
He is just one of them.. magic 🙏🇬🇧
Saw him from the away end at St James’ Park in 1986. It was like the ball was stuck to his foot.
Nothing beyter than watching this guy run at players, just class
For talent, the best.
world class skills on the pitch and sadly in the bar too! (nice vid LJC)
Thank you
He had the potential to be a legend, if he was managed by someone strict like Alex Ferguson and took things seriously he’d have been in the debate about Best, Pele, Cruyff, Ronaldo, Messi etc!
Still hasn't been replaced after 26yrs
Just watching Gascoigne skip around players like they weren’t there, tell me who does that in Euro 2024??
A Wimbledon fan here and watch Gazza play a few times but not when Vinnie grabbed his Crown Jewels 😂 One of the best players to pull on the England jersey a class act and joker always had a smile on his face👍 Good to see Gazza and Vinnie are mates now go fly fishing together etc.
What a prick VJ is.
@@greatteacherhugo I'm doing a Wayne Rooney Career series showing his highlights, I got part 3 up, check it out if interested
Seen him play for spurs and England he was brilliant if he played now would probably have more guidance
Always remember that free kick , on my birthday 1991 . superb player
A ridiculously talented football player if only we had Paul now ❤
Wouldn`t matter..Southgate would probably play him at the back.
Perhaps the one and only English player ever that you could truly call a genius.
I'm ashamed to say I'd forgotten how truly great he was. His close control as good as anyone, ever.
thanks for showing us this old footage of a geordie legend in depth too so people can see how adept n skillful he was! As for the Jude Bellingham comparisons lets give Jude 10 years and then see! The way the net is now players are judged on a daily basis but back then Gazza had nowt but the daily papers n news broadcasts. To be a legend you have to build it!
Love Gazza x amazing footballer 🙌💯🙌
I'm old enough to have watched Prime Gazza, Newcastle, Spurs, Lazio. Did he do it enough, no, nor did he do it for long enough and yes he was always injured. But when he turned it on and he really really wanted it, on his day, he was the best player in the world.
This guy was my hero growing up, he had talent to waste. Unfortunately he did waste it. But let’s not forget what an amazing player he was, imagine the greatness he could have achieved if he had the right people around him.
I'm glad I clicked on this.
I knew he was bloody good but I didnt know he was this good!
I was only a kid when Gazza was around, but looking back what a player he was
He was doing Rabona's before anyone knew what they were. I was privileged to see him play live - even if it was for Sp*rs
The rabona penalty in the charity match is just priceless. The Keeper got nowhere near it.
Le Tissier in the same vein, very underrated and under capped by England 🏴
Le tissier was fantastic,
I think it was cruyff who said he was the player he would most liked to have played with.
Love Gazza, This guy is up there with the greats but rarely gets the recognition. COYS.
Simply Gazza. A force of nature.
What a comp 🤩 this is really well put together
Great video and player.
Did anyone ever knock him off the ball. So strong.
Very nice video, well done.
He was the English Maradona - in skill as well as notoriety!
Gazza was a National Treasure,it was a shame he wasn’t better looked after.
How many English players are this two footed. Master.
Quite a few, Bobby Charlton, Duncan Edwards
What is he doing with the ball, he’s receiving it but instead of passing it back or sideways like 99% of midfielders today he is dribling past the opposing players…absolutely crazy 😳
Gazza sheer brilliance and that geordie grin what's not to admire about him when he was in the mood could take on a whole opposition single handed what a player back then.
Phenomenal player. Ferguson was spot on. Reminds me of George Best on and off the pitch. Poor old Colin Hendry…
I think we might have just about got the best of him at Rangers....Phenomenally talented player!
A beautiful player. Was a joy to watch
It's only when you see all these clips together, that you appreciate just how good he really was.
1:28 that movement is beautiful
After watching all thiis footage he shows just how strong a player is when they can use both feet. The guy was and still is a legend.
People talk about all these English players past and present and there has been some brilliant midfield players for England Bobby Charlton, Bryan Robson, Bobby moore, Steven Gerard, Paul scholes now Bellingham or Foden. Put them all together and they still couldn’t lace Gazzas boots.
His improvisation was really something else, quick thinking always aware of gaps and spaces he could take advantage of. I’d forgotten how good he was.
