A quick comment on last night's broadcast: I found no problem at all in how the actress portraying Elizabeth handled her roll. Interpreting a first-time mother AND senior citizen was surely a unique challenge!
Loved it!!!
ROLE
She looked so American to me that I actually thought there had been an American accent until I rewatched!
I thought they both did amazingly awesome! To see how deep their faith in knowing they’re carrying gifts straight from God!
The actrice was perfect in the way she talked, smiled, enjoyed......very sweet
This is what i noticed at the Sermon on the Mount: Judus came to Jesus and asked to join the group. All the others, Jesus, went to them and chose them. I immediately thought this.
Great point!
But didn’t Judas tell Hadad that Jesus called him?
I had not "planned" to be personally convicted by The Chosen's portrayal of Judas. So loving, so tender, so real, so TRUE, this scene. I love how you're bringing out the lessons we can get from this simple exchange over laundry. Oh how I wish I had learned these lessons back when I was a baby Christian in college. It's taken me 44 years to learn some of these lessons, THE HARD WAY. Oh how God has had to thrash me over rocks to get me to leave some things behind. I thought I was so smart, so talented, and had such an agenda about how God ought to use my gifts and skills. As Nathanael said in his first episode, HUBRIS.
Amen! Me too...❤
Same
That's crazy how you found those 3 notes of music for Judas along with the coins. Thanks for sharing
I at first of it was the sound of a snake hissing
"Still dirty, Judas" -- SO symbolic! Masterful scene, packed with foreshadowing and metaphors.
Judas attitude reminds of the scripture that says “These people praise me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
When he first expressed his desire to be a disciple, Jesus reminded Judas discussed the meaning of name “God be praised. “
He then emphasized that was praising with the hands then He asked him “are you willing to do hard things?”
Wow, excellent point. We best praise God by being "doers" of His Word - this is represented also by the hands. I hadn't thought of that. Anointed insight, Simon. 🔥
Washing the dirt out of clothes also symbolizes purifying the soul. "Glowing white robes" show up in the Bible several times for saints, Christ, angels, etc.
The 'Laundry scene' - thanks Brandon! I totally missed the deeper meaning here! I wondered how they would show Judas going his own way.
I saw Season 4 in the theaters and I was kind of focusing on the John the Baptist arc in E1. I knew that there was more meaning to this scene but couldn’t process it. Thanks for breaking this down and this is why it’s worth rewatching the season. A lot is missed otherwise. I am grateful that everyone can now enjoy this magnificent season. May God Bless you all 🙏🏻
With the notes from Judas's theme, notice how it clashes with the underlying soft rising notes. These notes played earlier in the scene, but It is almost as if Judas's notes are intentionally louder and heading in a different direction.
Oh, I didn't notice that! So many great things about this scene. To me, the instrument described as the "coins" sounded like a rattlesnake's rattle or a snake's hiss--signifying that Judas is allowing the devil a foothold. I suppose it could be both coins and a snake, but there aren't any rattlesnakes native to Israel.
I'm so happy that Season 4 is starting to stream. Now that I'm seeing the episodes I can start watching deep dives into these episodes without worrying about spoilers!
I'm right there with you watching, finally, from Barbados 🇧🇧
What a powerful metaphor! I so love the musical themes throughout the entire series! Thank you, Brandon!
Thank you for this one. It's helping me on my own struggles in belief. I'm a born again Christian and I'm having growing pains. Praise Jesus 🙏
❤
Handcrafted soaps made from scratch require three things to become soap: oil, water and lye. It is the chemical reaction between these ingredients that turns them into soap. Most soap also has other ingredients added to provide benefits to the soap, or to color or scent it. Lye can be made from wood ashes and water, or from a salt water solution
Yes, as a soap maker, I concur. Real soap is not detergent, which is a synthetic chemical of recent origins, harsh and with an unhealthy pH, that is, too acid.
THANKS!
THANK YOU. I went ‘huh?’ When that ingredient list came up. However, I do historical handspinning and stale urine was used as a scouring solution too.
Oh, the 30 coins!! I wouldn't have gotten that! You're right - it's brilliant! Thank you, Brandon.
I pray and ask you too to pray for my husband. We have been married for 45 yrs. I believed that he was a good Christian man b4 we married, but totally shifted as we married. Now that I WATCH ❤ The Chosen, he gets so upset and says you and your Jesus!! I REALLY don’t know what to do, but pray……😢
Hard situation but will pray for you both
Incredible insight! 😊
This is your best sleuthing yet!!
I love how you explain things. You are so much into detail. That is really a beautiful gift.😃💯💯 Yes he does. he's very Update
A small thanks for all of your content. Met you and Vanessa at ChosenCon last year, tou are such nice people...just wanted to support you in a small way!
Thanks So much! Glad to have met you!
Great job Brandon, was going down the same track while watching it last night for the 3rd time. Also noticed the use of the word "saturate", and going back to "the source water"...such an excellent scene by great writers who understand the Christian life and yet from a purely storytelling perspective also expand characterization in the narrative! Did not notice the music and coins, fantastic point!
I LOVE ALLA, THE ACTOR WHO PLAYS "Z."
Thank you for deep dives. I am so glad the Chosen is streaming so we can be a sleuth family again!!!!
This resonates with "Not what you were" from last season, except Judas still is.
Great writing! And good sleuthing Brandon in the coins sound.
AH!THE COINS "SOUND!" AHA!
How do you discover all this? I'm glad we have you- it goes right over my head!
I AM MUSIICIANA-IT WENT RIGHT OVER MY HEAD ! ARGH. LOVED THE BTS SCENES OF CAST, PLAYING FIRST CENTURY INSTRUMENTS!
I remember people complaining that Judas was too likable in season 3. Now in early season 4 he is definitely not likable.
We can also see the cracks starting to form that will lead to his ultimate demise.
I love how you point out all the times Jesus is trying to instill in Judas the right lessons, and we see how he kept missing it because he refused to see the forest through the trees. He truly loved for Judas, but he just would not…
YES.THE "CRACKS." I LOVE THE ACTOR..BUT I REMEMBER TO LISTEN TO THE CHARACTER,STARTING TO "TURN." GREAT ACTING!!
I FINALY GOT THE CHOSEN AP--IT'S A LITTLE GLITCHY, BUT MY NEW CHURCH WAS ABLE TO SHOW ME EPISODES 1-4. SO I KIND OF MISS THE CHURCH--BUT GLAD OF THE DEEP DIVE..SAD AS I WATCH JUDAS BEGIN TO DISINTEGRATE...
Brandon, you talked about these musical themes that keep showing up with Judas. "Leitmotif" is the term used in music (as well as literature) for themes that show up again around certain characters (generally speaking, also works for settings, etc). Richard Wagner popularized (and arguably created) Leitmotif with his popular opera, "Der Ring des Nibelungen". One of the most well known pieces is "Die Walküre" or we call it "The Ride of the Valkyries" in English. Funnily enough, this piece actually has been featured as Leitmotif in pop culture all the way from old school Loony Tunes to current Tiktoks. (And obviously inspo for LOTR, both the author and the film maker!) Anywayssss, just some useless information that I carry around in my brain that kind of relates 😂
Thank you Brandon. I loved how you unpacked the metaphors in this scene. It gave me a lot to ponder.
Really love the breakdown of these videos, Brandon! But I really love the music insight as well! Super cool! 😎
I’m going to direct biblical films like The Chosen someday in the near future. I can’t wait to start film making just to see your reaction and breakdowns 😂
Thanks, Brandon. I enjoyed your running through this in detail. Also, now that you've pointed out what they did with the music, I'm wondering how I hadn't noticed that before!
Verrrry interesting point that washing the clothes, leaving the dirt behind is a reflection of what Judas needs to do in his heart! Makes me think about what dirt I need to wash out of my own laundry… Wow, also a fantastic point about Judas’ music changing!
Wow wow wow this scene is amazing I’m a bible and Chosen nerd but I have to be honest this one flew over me I was thinking why are they wasting time on laundry! Probably because I was eager to get to the John the Baptizer parts then I listened to the writers explaining and it became clear and now you have done this great deep dive I understand this scene is amazing beyond words absolutely excellent what seemed to be so banal is truely brilliant
Thanks a lot Brandon x
Separating the wheat from the tares”! Only Yeshua will be the one to do that! If you go back to the beginning of The Chosen, Yeshua talks about this theme…
Very cool deep-dive 😎 Brandon!
Yes, sorting through the fish, if I remember correctly.
I didn't realize the coins in the music til Brandon said it! 😁 So cool! 😎 Love it! 😍
Great insight. Thank you. I also thought the laundry scene had to do with the lesson Jesus gave in Simon's house (season 3 episode 5; Judas wasn't there) when He said :
"And so new wine must be put into fresh wine skins"
Off topic. Speaking of zealots. I think Simon Peter also has some zealot in him since we know he will be cutting off the ear of the Roman soldier when they come for Jesus (which makes me think back to season 1 when the soldier had cut Simon's ear when they got off the boat).
You really bring clarity to these scenes,, thank you The Chosen Sleuth 💯
Right! That first scene included many of the gospels compacted into one conversation! it was great!
Thanks! So interesting!
If my memory is correct Judas was telling his sister about joining Jesus, he told her not everything was about money, his sister said something like “it’s always about money with you.”
Brandon, this episode was mind blowing!!
My husband and I both got so much out of this video. Wonderful insights!
I think it is awesome you shared this. When I saw this scene in the theater, I came home and told others exactly what you talked about. It was so full of scriptural teachings from the word-parables come to life so to speak. 😊.
🖖🏼✌🏼
I got to see Season 4 in theaters and it’s so good! This lesson in the scene is so powerful and Judas didn’t get it fully. I never would’ve heard the coins! Wow! Very clever. Thank you for your content and happy I found the channel.
reading the bible it's easy to disconnect from Judas. We have hindsight that the disciples didn't have. I see a lot of myself in all the disciple's doubts and failures, especially Judas. It's very convicting.
I'm really glad for the clarification you have given with this scene! Thank you! And, even today...sometimes we still don't "get it"!
I love these replays and conversation about the episodes. It's easy to see the situation when we watch the episodes, but retracing some of the parts really gives indepth thought to it. Judas has the belief that Jesus is the messiah, but he fails to exercise his faith that Jesus will always provide. I always have thoughts about the one thing that Jesus asked of his apostles at the beginning, and that is "Follow Me". He didn't ask them to "lead " him or "provide " for him. Belief without faith is missing out on so much in a relationship with Jesus.
That was great!! Thank you for breaking it down. Makes me see things that I had not seen before. Appreciate your channel. ❤
Wow! Wow! Wow! Love the detail you give us! I hope in future episodes, after the betrayal, some of the apostles don’t take Judas’ decisions as their own failure of not making him understand. That would be horrible. After being w the group for several years I cannot imagine what they all felt when that happened. Bc of this video this was definitely my favorite scene in episode 1. The coin purse sounds like it shakes and falls. Amazing catch!! Love it!
Thanks super sleuth 🕵️♀️
Thanks for breaking down this metaphor so well. I caught some of this but didn’t catch all of it. This is why you are The Sleuth!
Did you notice Judas said “Kingdom of the Messiah” and NOT the “Kingdom of God”? It’s not about God for Judas - it’s about an earthly kingdom. Funny, physical expectations haven’t really changed all that much in 2,000 years. People still look for physical things much more than spiritual things even though Jesus made it clear to the woman at the well - spirit and truth.
Love your insights, Brandon! Especially hearing Judas’ tune!
THANKS! GREAT ANALYSIS.
Woahhhh! The coins in the music! I definitely missed that! Thanks for pointing it out.
Watching this again. ❤❤❤❤
Fantastic analysis!
Judas had no interest in becoming a "doer" of Yeshua's words, he wanted to manage Him according to his own beliefs (he wanted Yeshua to become a doer of HIS words instead). Reminds me of satan telling Yeshua what he could give Him if He left His Divine mission and instead followed him. 😐
I really enjoyed this scene! It was so well written and in step with what we've come to expect from Ryan Tyler & Dallas. The metaphor was brilliantly layered.
Thank you for pointing out the music theme. I would never had heard Judas’ theme or interpret the coins without your explanation! I will listen for it from now on! 😃
I appreciate this breakdown about washing the clothes. It's something that would have taken me a while to get. And, I usually don't really pay that much attention to the music, but going forward, I will now! That was awesome! You are too good, thank you!
Great recap and explanation.
Aahh, the sound of coins falling !! That Is So genius!
Glad he brought that out and replayed the music!
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. ~ Isaiah 55:8
I am impressed with your attention to detail. 👏👏👏
I so love your insight!
Great writing with music confirming the message
Simon Z has come a long way. He has a much better understanding of who Jesus is and what he came to do now than he did earlier. Earlier in the show his idea of the nature of Jesus' ministry was much closer to Judas' idea of it now. But he has watched and learned. You can hear it when he speaks. You're right, that is why Jesus paired them together, hoping that Judas will learn something.
I like the peace you can hear in Z's voice.
Brandon have to say that you look like a child at Christmas. You've been counting down the days to get started on Season 4. Happy days😂😂
I think it's a "rattle", like from a snake and it shows the influence of the devil in Judas' thoughts as he knows Jesus is God,but chooses to do things his way out of pride.
another super excellent breakdown of the chosen season 4
wonderful explanation of the analogies being made. I didn't catch the coin sound in the Judas theme music till you pointed it out. Thank you. Don't know that I would have ever caught that one.
You are back into your element. ❤
Love this channel ❤. Really like how you run all thru scripture. Thank you.
I’m so going to pay attention to Judas theme now! Love the add of the coins sound!!
New subscriber! I've seen you pop up on my YT feed, but this is the first video I've watched, and it was brilliant!
Welcome! And thanks 🙏!
@@TheChosenSleuth ❤️
Thanks for the insight of the many details and even the analysis of the "Judas theme".
I love that out of everyone, Simon the Zealot is the one who's brcoming the most wise and mature one. I think him being the oldest (at 40) certainly helps him to understand Jesus's teachings, and hes alresdy shifted bis life immensely when he joined the zealots thst he already knows how to adapt to another one.
Thanks!
Good job dude
Judas didn’t have a true conversion. He was caught up in the emotional moment of the events at hand.
Bless you
The land is much further away across the water when looking out from Capernaum. You can see the Golan Heights from there. Never realized there were special notes for Judas or anyone else until now. Now I will probably have to re-watch the series and pay special attention to the music. LOL , yeah Judas as well as all the disciples are about to have a very rocky road ahead, as Jesus will really challenge everyone with some of the comments he will make. Very true comments, but also very hard to understand.
I must say the 'thank you' by John was awesome! That was brilliantly done!
The silver coins… brilliant.
I loved this.
Brendan, I have to say I must not be as musically inclined as you are because I never noticed it. I know you have been talked about it for a while, but it wasn't till this video that you pointed it out for me to hear it. I understanding what you're saying that it sets the tone. I guess in my "vision" i look at the visual esthetics and what is being said. I do love how to break down all these episodes. Thank you!!!
Hello again. Watching 2nd time. Della W. Here
Very insightful, thank you. I agree Judas is to prideful to follow the teaching of Jesus and is trying to manipulate Jesus to do what he thinks should happen, plus he can't leave his love of money behind which is his whole reason he wants Jesus to be a king thinking he will prosper as a follower.
I love your pointing out that the "coins" sound is being incorporated into Judas's theme. I think you're probably on more of the right track as far as the composer's intentions than I am, but the first thought I add when I heard that was the rattle of a snake's tail. Foreshadowing Judas's coming betrayal of Jesus influenced by the Deceiver who often appears in the Hebrew Bible as a snake/scaled dragon creature. Loved this video! Thanks, Brandon!
Could be a bit of both 😁
I love the first season it was wonderful
I AM A WRITER and love the "Luke" performance of Judas. also--- Later on? Charles Wright's beautiful poem,"St. Judas" is really food for thought--Look it up! IN grad school we all had a fascinating time , thinking what Judas would think about Wright's little scene-: Judas is getting ready ( in the poem) to hang himself-but stops, to rescue s beaten man--he knows he is DOOMED, a BETRAYER of Jesus. But, in the poem--he runs to help a stranger, and : " I held the man, for Nothing, In my arms." A great poem...but saving the guy does nothing to save "Judas" and in the Charles Wright poem, Judas knows that!
How do you know it was coins making that sound in Judas' theme? That's genius indeed!!! At first I thought it was a rattlesnake 😅
sounds like someone tossing coins in a hand for sure, but maybe we'll get to ask the music guys someday!
This reminded me of lots wife how she couldn't leave the old life behind
Wow!
Noice insight on the coins in the music!! Now I'm going to be listening for Judas' theme. This was a wonderful breakdown, Brandon! 🩵🙏🏻
Hi Brandon!! In watching this scene, I thought back to season three when Judas was talking to his sister, when she expressed doubts about him following Jesus. I wonder if they will get back to her after Judas’s betrayal of Jesus & his eminent suicide. She’s going to be devastated & I wonder if she will renounce Jesus as well!! It will be interesting to see if this happens in future episodes! Thanks for your deep dives! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the next episodes!😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏
She will come back in season 5 😁
@@TheChosenSleuth Thanks Brandon!! Love to you and Vanessa!!😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏
I think "Devora", Juda's sister in 'The Chosen ' had seen him fail man times.. giving her his plant! because he never could gt them to live? Was informative.
Thanks Brandon for that insightful breakdown especially the musical notes.! Could you tell me your thoughts on why John the Baptist was rubbing his hands over the stone that he would lay his head on before being killed?. It was before he asks about the silver plate. You could see gouges in the stone maybe writing. Now that you pointed out the significance of the musical notes, I wonder if there was something about that stone.
One other thing. I don’t know if this has been mentioned or not. Joanna was praying the Lord’s Prayer in King James English. A stylistic choice or a mistake? I believe this is the first time that King James English was used in the series.
1:53 My basis is the way they're listed in the Gospels
Della W. Here. Again. Hey
And a lesson in charity to Simon as well 😊
This is sad. I tried many times to. Open & watch the Season 4 on the App but not happening.
There was also no such thing as shares in a company back then.
