I think the actor who played baby John the Baptiser really nailed it. When i watched it, I really believed he was a baby!
100000%
🤣🤣🤣
🤣😂🤣😂
🤣😂
lol.
I liked that Elizabeth had a sassy pants personality !😊
John could be quite sassy and blunt so I liked the idea that he may have got it from his parents. 😂
@@ladybaby3 people tend to forget these were real living people and not statues
I loved her! A person I would enjoy being with.
I love the actress that plays young Mary, she has the sweetest voice.
I liked the actress who played Elizabeth:)
I thought Elizabeth was perfect. Especially with Zechariah, who was mesmerizing. He was absolutely perfect. Perfect.
And I loved this scene between Mary and Elizabeth!!!❤
I loved Zachariah and Elizabeth scenes throughout (including the gossiping lady at the beginning😂).
Sounded to me like one of those Jiddische mama's. And, after all, she was about to become a mother, not a seasoned grandmother who'd already raised a handful of children. Personally, I quite liked the way she portrayed Elisabeth (like others here mentioned: our personal taste and expectations come into it)
I was making the joke that Zechariah was making up for not being able to speak for 9 month. But I had this thought that John's mission isn't over now he gets to tell Abraham and Moses and all the others that died before him that The One they have been waiting for is here
❤️
We also have in John 3:27-30. John the Baptist himself said "the bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom voice. That joy is mine and it is now complete. He must become greater: I must become less".
Over 100k people watched the youtube live, and over 100k on the app!
I was so happy to watch together with you all; FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD~!
It was super cool to see everyone there at once! I was on youtube so I didn't know how many were on the app.
“Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.”
I for once don’t agree with you Brandon. I really liked the way she played Elizabeth.
I never noticed the difference in accent that Brandon is talking about, but I thought the actress had to spout off such long explanatory lines, it does make the scene a bit awkward! 😂 I remember when we had to write some scripts in high school, and had to cram so much info into 1 scene, and you either have to narrate it, or make a character just tell the story... the dialog here kinda reminds me of that. 😜
I felt the same as Brandon. It is the nature of art, it is subjective to the viewer. But I do agree with Brandon on this one.
I also enjoyed the portrayal of Elizabeth. She had to have old enough to make it believable that the pregnancy was miraculous and I guess it's just me, but the accent slip really wasn't that big of a deal to me. The fact that they did lines that were long sections straight from Scripture was more impressive.
Yeah Elizabeth wasn't it for me either I definitely enjoyed the moment but her acting just didn't fit for me
I thought she was great!!!
I thought Elizabeth was perfect for the role but I had no predetermined thought of how she would appear. I’m kind of used to The Chosen using all different types for some of the roles.
I had no problem with the actress playing Elizabeth 🤷♀️
Same I thought she was perfect
I’ve seen the whole season, and nothing made me weep as much as the last 5ish minutes. The Christopher Nolan-esque cross cutting. The Zechariah speech just blew me away.
Beautiful that God chose women for bringing those into the world. Blessed are they among women
Do you think that when John saw the lamb after saying "I've never been to a wedding banquet, but I'm on my way to one" that the writers may have actually been referencing Revelation 19:9? "...Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!” Seeing the vision of the lamb God showed him would have not only comforted him in his final moment, but also validated his last thoughts.
Never thought of that, but it makes sense now that you point it out....good catch.
Yeah I think that’s a part of what they were referring to, but probably not directly that exact verse. The overall sentiment though for sure
I think it was Jesus, there to comfort him in those last moments and remind him where he was going-to Paradise. As John said "thank you" to the lamb.
Yes, the Chosen insider video yesterday referenced this from Revelation
If You watch the Chosen Aftershow. They go into this with the writers. Tyler did I think specifically mention the 'Wedding Supper of the Lamb' in Revelation.
I loved Elizabeth
I love that John Zebedee's words at the end of this episode reflect the opening of his gospel. JOHN 1: 6-8. "(John) came as a witness to testify concerning (Jesus) so that through him all might believe. (John) was not the (Messiah), he came only as a witness to the (Messiah, that He would be here soon)"
I think Herodias was a lot more than just insulted. Herod liked to listen to John and knew he was a good and righteous man so he protected him. That is likely to worry Herodias that Herod might just be persuaded which would make her feel threatened and insecure. She stands to lose everything.
I see John's saying "The blind see, the lame walk ...etc" reflecting the answer that Jesus sent which meant "Yes, I'm the one who is to come - here's how you can know" So John knows he has succeeded in what he was born to do.
It's okay to go now.
I loved the actor who played Elizabeth.
Its nice to see an Elizabeth who is older...after all isn't she described as elderly? someone in their 30s-50s i wouldn't consider elderly. someone in their 70s and 80s...yes. I think the actress did a fine job. She sounded as i know elderly women normally sound and wouldn't expected her as elderly to be bouncing off the walls with vim and vigor.
I never thought she was elderly. Just post menopausal.
I never thought she was elderly. Just post menopausal.
And I love how the talk of the wedding banquet echoes John’s last testimony in John 3! Beautiful.
I truly loved this episode, especially when they did the flash back to Zechariah, holding John in his hands and prophetically speaking of the role his son will play in preparing 😊the way for his cousin, Yeshua, the Messiah ❤Shalom
I was so happy to see it finally premier last night. I enjoyed it so much, but it was as I feared and it did not have the same impact. (no tissues were needed) because so many clips had been leaked it was more like watching a re-run with just a few new clips. I think the only real big impact moment for me was when the sheep appeared before John's eyes just before he lost his head. THAT was beautiful.
The snake and Jesus pounding the ground were in Claudia's dream
I disagree about Elizabeth. I loved her! She seemed like an old lady and that is who she was playing.
Try imagining the character of Elizabeth as being genetically related to Schula, and you might be able to accept this actress more easily.
OR…remembering her as little Timmy’s mom in “Lassie…” I’m thinking this actress is June Lockhart but I’m not 100% on that. What I like @her portrayal is her sassiness- a precursor to the Baptizer’s own sassy affect👍🏻
@@joannesmutko6315 This actress was the mother of Clark in Lois and Clark, K Callan. I don't believe it was June Lockhart who is 98 at this time.
@@kristiecobb1652 She kinda looked all of 98 but …🤷♀️
You’re so right, Kristie - she is Callan for sure!
K Callan…..for an 88 year old actress portraying Elizabeth, she was amazing!! 💕
Love the casting of Tony Amendola as Zachariah. So great
Agreed! I've been waiting and hoping he might be cast in this show. A larger role would have been great too, but good to see him regardless.
Yes, I think the first time I recognized him as an actor I'm very familiar with, but at the time he was just Zachariah. The second time I recognized him as another beloved Stargate actor!
Watch again and keep in mind that she was just getting used to the happy but embarrassing state of being pregnant at old age. Zechariah and Elizabeth were communicating, he was writing things down.
Putting all of these in focus you will probably be less critical.
I’ve watched it about a dozen times, every time it takes me out of the show. It’s my job to be critical, and call things as I see them. It’s not such a bad thing that I hate the episode, but it definitely hurts it.
@@TheChosenSleuth you hate the episode? Could you explain why you hate the episode? Is it that the woman that plays Elizabeth does not have a good accent at all which I agree…Or is it just her acting? I’m confused… I’m not trying to be mean I’m just confused with you saying you hate the episode.
@@OTCRock4one I think Brandon means its not bad enough to make him hate the episode..He is saying he didn't hate the episode...it is just his sentence construction !
I loved Elizabeth!! Oh well we can’t always agree ❤
Brandon, I’m so so happy they brought back actress: Sara Anne to play young Mary! I really like the way she smiles and is enthusiastic and I think she’s a pretty good actress!
I was in Israel in 2008, and we were in the Town where Mary went, to see Zacharias and Elisabeth, the Town was called Ein Kareim, in hill country. We visited the well, where they would have gone to get water.
Thanks Brandon for this video! 👍🏼
That must have been so emotional. I wish I could visit Israel. My health isn’t likely to allow it in this lifetime, but one day…
Elizabeth lived in the hill country of Judah near Jerusalem. Jesus and all the apostles except Judas were from Galilee. The Galileans had a different accent than the Judeans. (When Peter denied knowing Jesus during Jesus' trial before the Sanhedrin, he was in the courtyard of the high priest Caiaphas. The guards standing there recognized Peter as a Galilean by his accent. Matthew 26:73, Mark 14:70) Elizabeth would have spoken with a Judean, not Galilean, accent.
She ( the Queen) looks the part, but unfortunately I didn’t understand a word she said
I can’t wait for CC
So glad to be finally watching season 4! Looking forward to all your season 4 videos!
I’m so excited to start watching Season 4. Just finished watching Episode 1, such a blessing to be hack in the Bible so vividly. A bit sad beginning, but very absorbing Bible stories on the life of Jesus and His disciples.
Thank you so much for explaining the lineage of Herod/Herodias, I’ve never understood that part!
it's VERY confusing lol
Hello Della W. Here. I had to watch on a different phone. But it was amazing. Balled my eyes out when John the Baptist had to die. ☹
BRANDON, YOU DO A GREAT JOB BREAKEN DOWN THESE SCENES TKY I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS 👍🏻✝️🙏🏻🇺🇸🌹🐶💃
Watched the entire video. Thanks for the breakdown!
I loved the way this actress portrayed Elisabeth.
It was normal at that time in Jewish culture for the first son to be named after their father. So it's not so far-fetched that they were confused when they said his name would be John.
Your teaching is great, thank you for studying and giving great insight.
Wow. So many thoughts about this, so much depth about John and his stories, that I never thought about before, thank you for what you do to enlighten us about the culture of the time which helps us understand the scripture better. I’m in off of prophecy, and who John was and what he did, in more ways than I ever was. Thank you.
Oh Brandon. I have been waiting for your dives. They're excellent. By the way, happy 4th anniversary of the TH-cam venture.
I always thought he had to die because his mission was complete.
Great deep dive! Thanks!
Thank you I did learn a lot from this. Thank you for helping to explain everything. 😊
Very good job of delving into Episode 1of Season 4!
Great analysis!
Excellent breakdown. Good job!
Great job 👏
Great have seen it at last and I think they did John the justice he deserves! and now your deep dives to look forward to x
Excellent reviews and breakdown of the episode
I have been watching this channel for a little while . but not the deep dives. I am so impressed how you are digging into the episodes and tying scripture. Bringing new insights to the episodes. Awesome job! Thank you!!!!
Thank you for connecting more of the dots in thus episode.
One point Luke 1:23 says when his time of service was ended,he went to his home. I believe Zechariah finished his service
Got to see E1 again early this morning here on the UK. Great content on this episode. Looking forward to uou breaking down yhe rest of Season 4. Well done Brandon 👏 👏 😊
It's funny, when you talked about Avner, it reminded me of when Philip talked about how nobody knew each other's real names.
Exactly!
I hope you are right. That would be cool.
Well done review
Great breakdown. I'm so glad I can FINALLY watch and comment because I actually understand
Amazing 🙏🙏
Thanks Brandon
I wish they would have mentioned how the prophets of old were all killed and so for John to be a prophet, it was inevitable for him to die. Other than that, this was a remarkable opening to the fourth season.
Well researched. Esp. between stone and big rock. Right words matter and pinpoint reality.
The guy who presided over the brit milah (bris) for John was not a priest. He was just a rabbi. Kohanim (priests) were not addressed as rabbi (teacher). A man could become a rabbi after many years of study but you were born into the priesthood and your whole life revolved around learning your job and then when you were old enough, executing it.
The first guard is from christian tv series on Pureflix the Vindication. He is the main character.
Didn’t they make them extra old. Zacharias would have been at most 60-61. After all priests had to stop serving at age 60z So, maybe Elizabeth would be 45-50ish. Which was probably old for the time.
Still very moving episode.
yeah personally i was expecting her to be maybe in her 50's or 60's. Not 70-80, which i think would probably be a bit old for this time period.
But modern audiences would not get the 'old' reference. 50 is the new 70.
Hmmm! Lest we forget Abraham & Sarah were 100 & 90 when they had Isaac 🤷🏻♀️
I see Zechariah & Elizabeth scripturally being too old for there to be any doubt that God did it! 😊
I liked the fact that in the show Jesus and john were close but in the scripture it says that even though they were cousins they didnt know each other. I have cousins that I havent ever met so I can indetstand that. Johnn was brought up in the wilderness when Jesus was in Nazareth after Egypt.❤
Where does it say that exactly? Remember this is not a Bible
narration tv show
This actress who played Mary was in Series 3 Episode 3 when Jesus and Lazaras were babies.
I thought Zechariah would be wearing more formal clothing than he did, especially at the dedication.
I was confused by the man "Abner". I, at first, thought he was the man at the wedding at Cana, but then realized he was the one who came to talk to Simon/Peter.
I agree about Elizabeth. I had the same reaction.
Brai-Tec on Stargate SG1 💕❤️
I was really hoping they would show flashbacks of John baptizing Jesus
He didn't “die”- we all are going to walk through the veil you call death to get to the real world.
Imagine not knowing how or when John dies and spending the opening scene with the mind of a dance mom and rooting for the girl on her performance scene 🤯🥺 ONLY to find out she was dancing to murder!!! 😭😭😭 The way I sobbed and IMMEDIATELY ran to scripture! I wasn’t hugely attached to John but to know he was sent to do the will of God and REALLY LIVED AND EXPERIENCED such a horrific death for it, it just saddens me so much.
I wish I could give a dollar ( not going onto that)
Yet share video with others
I hope to get work soon
…. Soon ( that word)
I am not educated in the bible as you are and thank you for sharing
I am so blessed watching, learning and sharing
Thank you
The lineage was very interesting. I knew she had been married to Harold's brother but I didn't know who was the father of Salem or Herodous lineage. Thanks for that. It will take me awhile to remember it all correctly
Brandon, I have been a follower for a few years now. I have been waiting for the deep dives for months now because of the Chosen's delays. It was really upsetting that the only way to access the videos is to pay for Patreon which because of my disability imcome, i just cant afford right now. I originally belonged to Snipe and now both. I try to support you any way i can but im just not able to do Patreon right now . Thank you for this in depth look into John. It was very informative. There was a lot that i didn't know about him until now.🦋
The rest of the deep dive of the episode is coming out throughout the next couple days. Don’t worry! Nothing is behind a paywall for this.
You'd be surprised how many people thought Elizabeth was played by Dame Maggie Smith. Right, like they could afford to hire Maggie Smith. LOL Not only that, but Maggie is quite tall, and this woman is very petite.
is "i'll tell philip" what andrew says? i heard it as "i'll tough it out". lol. loved the part John the apostle comes to the realization about John (the baptizer). straight out of John 1:6-8
Yes, Andrew says "I'll tell Philip". If you watch the after show you can hear Noah James mentioning this when talking about that very scene.
Have to agree on Elizabeth.
I disagree with you-The Chosen Sleuth 😊
Elizabeth’s character was perfect portraying John the Baptist’s mother, speaking and displaying so much joy, and as most the commentators on this also agree on this, she did an excellent job.
The actor who played Zechariah also was perfect
I enjoyed the scenes with both of them, and of course Mary loving her joy❤❤❤❤
There are a couple errors in your commentary. Herod Antipas was the king - Tetrarch, really - of Galilee and Perea, not Judea. The Tetrarch of Judea was his brother, Archelaus. Though Herod the Great planned to have local leaders killed when he died, his wife prevented that from happening. Also, as a Priest, Zechariah would have only been "on call" at the Temple during certain rotations of service. The rest of the time he'd have lived at home.
Yes and Archelaus was banished by Rome and Roman Procurators replaced him (eventually Pontius Pilate) which is why Judea was governed by a Roman and not one of Herod the Great's sons
I forget
Jesus and John grew up together. What might that have been like????
Doubts technically can mean not believing they just wrote it in a tv show way
Did you notice that Avner said "Jesus the Nazarene" not Jesus of Nazareth? Different meaning.
Easton's Bible Dictionary - Nazarene
Nazarene [N] [S]
This epithet (Gr. Nazaraios) is applied to Christ only once ( Matthew 2:23 ). In all other cases the word is rendered "of Nazareth" ( Mark 1:24 ; 10:47 ; 14:67 , etc.). When this Greek designation was at first applied to our Lord, it was meant simply to denote the place of his residence. In course of time the word became a term of reproach. Thus the word "Nazarene" carries with it an allusion to those prophecies which speak of Christ as "despised of men" ( Isaiah 53:3 ). Some, however, think that in this name there is an allusion to the Hebrew netser , which signifies a branch or sprout. It is so applied to the Messiah ( Isaiah 11:1 ), i.e., he whom the prophets called the Netse , the "Branch."
The followers of Christ were called "the sect of Nazarenes" ( Acts 24:5 ). All over Palestine and Syria this name is still given to Christians
I wonder how the women supporting the ministry out of their means turned to Zebedee and sons coming to the financial rescue. They were front and center as the returning heroes. Besides it being a good story.
There are well known character actors in this episode: Herod and the Queen are examples.
Re Elizabeth/Mary I suppose that some of the things that we see as momentous, as deeply meaningful biblically might have been spoken more lightly as they happened in real time. It did seem as though such a momentous moment should have been given more weight. I loved Mary in The Shepherd & would have liked to see more of a link to that Mary & the Mary we see in the Mary/Elizabeth scene (ditto when Jesus & Lazarus were little). I think I’d like to see some kind of a visual link between the 2 Marys (past & present) too …
Zechariah did not literally say: "I don't believe you," but the text (v. 20) says that Gabriel told Zechariah: "because you did not believe my words…". So, either the angel misinterpreted and unfairly judged Zechariah, or The Chosen got it right and they just mentioned that Zechariah said "I don't believe", when in fact, the angel told him that he didn't believe. I feel that doesn't change anything foundational, and Zechariah's attitude and disbelief are not being misrepresented here.
Was Zechariah in Stargate SG1 as T'ealc's Jaffa mentor/friend?
YEP Bra-tac of Chulak.
@@LaurindaBellinger That's it :)
Yes, l just checked and his name was Archeleous. Maybe Arestabulous was another name for him?
Here’s some revelation:
John the Baptist had the spirit of Elijah.
Herodias had the spirit of Jezebel.
Herod had the spirit of King Ahab.
Jezebel pursed tokill Elijah but did not succeed. Her revenge succeeded played out through Herodias manifestation centuries later.
They left out Mary's my soul thou magnifies the Lord speach?????
They didn’t want to repeat it, since it was in the Christmas special
It is in, the messengers.
They have it in the 2nd of the Christmas episodes, "The Messengers"
Jesus loves you 😊
I had the same issue with Elizabeth. I think it is because I have watched the movie, The Nativity, and man did they ever NAIL the character of Elizabeth and Zechariah....if you get a chance to check out even a clip of that movie, THE NATIVITY, and you will understand why I had such a problem with last night's version of Elizabeth.
The Nativity Story - th-cam.com/video/sAtO9nt7Xnc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RhOF8_O2XCP9CVbB. I agree that that was a great portrayal of Mary and Elizabeth and Zechariah
Maybe it's good that I'm German. 😂 I couldn't find anything wrong with the Elizabeth actress. I don't get why you were so taken out by her. For me she seemed perfectly fitting. And Dallas seems to think like me, cause he didn't change her part or let her correct it. 🤷♀️
I appreciated seeing Elizabeth very old, 40+ still get pregnant, it is not common but it does happen. I work in health care we had a 51 yo once. At her age it made the divine intervention even more apparent to all. I do understand your issues with the actress though I would have appreciated someone I could envision being Middle Eastern of the time, even the accent did not fit, as you mentioned.
I appreciated it too. Since Scripture says Elisabeth was of advanced years and past the age of childbearing, I always took for granted that meant she had reached the age of what we now call menopause, which typically occurs for women in their 50s, although I know some women experience menopause earlier. I'm glad they honored Scripture in that way because the fact that Luke mentions her and Zechariah's ages in his Gospel indicates it was important for the reader to know. I believe it definitely would have been of significance to Luke who was a physician of that day for a woman to give birth in advanced years, possibly in showing that with God nothing is impossible.
