Texas Rangers vs Comanche Raiders : The Tragic Failed Hostage Rescue of Matilda Lockhart

- In the winter of 1839, Texas Ranger Andrew Lockhart is on a desperate search for his 16-year-old daughter Matilda, who was kidnapped the previous year by the dreaded Comanche. Under the command of Colonel John H. Moore, Lockhart and his fellow Rangers follow their Lipan Apache scouts to the San Gabriel River, roughly 100 miles northwest of Austin, TX. After a harrowing journey, the men finally find themselves within striking distance of the Comanche village they believe to be holding Matilda Lockhart. In the freezing dawn, the scouts and Rangers lie on their bellies, ready to spring an ambush upon the Comanche.
What happens next will be one of the most violent, and most tragic, events in the history of not only Texas, but the entirety of the Old West.

Hey all, read some wild stories yesterday in a history of Parker county my family was alive for. This channel is a great place for these favorite type of storytelling. Thanks HOKC
Weren't all our families alive for it tho? Wonder where my family was during this 😂
@@yatiyeets4180look up your ancestry bro
@@yatiyeets4180 don't know
All I know is they were in Parker County and probably dealt with Indians. Much like the rest of them from Texas. Do some genealogy and find out..
I have found through genealogy that my dad's side of the family is distantly related to Cynthia Ann Parker.
@dudewow1 ah I was just playing around. That's cool that you know where they were. I have a good idea where mine were actually. ✌️
Thanks HOKC. 🎉
Sitting down for some 'Time Travel' . . . time.
T'was a great trip . . .
Torture methods sound similar to Spanish Inquisition.
Thank you 💛 HOKC
I always enjoy your stories of the old West
And at the council house fight, the whites and chiefs were talking in the the council house. One of the chiefs began to tell of their ppl's woes with a great speech. As he began he put on a pair of glasses. Tho he could not and was not reading. He did it for effect. To be scholarly. Everyone in that room knew he prolly killed a settler for those glasses. Maybe someone recognized the specs as those of a dead friend or neighbor. I imagine that paired w matildas condition must have seemed too insulting to allow another second of diplomacy.
Also when the Comanche Chief Muguara, told them that they had more captives but it would require many trade goods including guns and ammunition in order for them to get them and ended up with “How do you like that answer?”
They didn’t
This is such a great channel. Gained a new follower in me.
Big fan of this.
Great stories = great history! 😁
Yes sir Atx.
Welp. Hokc posted... time to reinstall read dead
Matilda is my great great aunt. And Andrew Lockhart.. I’ve never seen that picture portrayed as him or her … what is the source?
I watched the film Hostiles recently how accurate was that an American soldier has a breakdown and suicide at his mistreatment of indians? Seems like woke bs to me. Spoiled a pretty good movie
can't believe they let the Indians run off with all their hourse's. this always seem to happen.
why not post multiple guards?
I hope nobody gave the Comanche any ground either in battle or if they got captured. Well the Indians lost anyway
That photo is not confirmed to be Matilda…
Always look forward to watching these each week! Best!
