- Join History At The OK Corral for the Battle of Cowpens, a pivotal clash in the American Revolution. Witness the shocking confrontation between American Brigadier General Daniel Morgan and the overconfident British Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton.
Morgan's masterful plan could alter the course of history, utilizing the landscape's elevation to conceal his forces and draw the British into a series of encirclements, the only caveat being that nearly everything needed to go according to plan.
Daniel Morgan was the embodiment of the American Frontier; from his days as a Teamster running wagons for the British Empire, to his service in the Colonial Militia battling against Native Tribe’s.
Cowpens would either gain much needed respect for American military leadership, or give way to the British seizing the whole of the American South. With the war of attrition having dragged on for six long years, a breakthrough was needed by both sides to move the struggle for the soul of America to a definitive resolution. This battle would do just that…
Don't miss out on this thrilling tale of bravery, cunning, and the desperate American fight for freedom. Only on History at the OK Corral: Home Of History's Greatest Shootouts & Showdowns!

I was impressed with the reason Morgan hated the British. Because of a whipping he received at their hands during the French and Indian War. He was sentenced to get 500 lashes for attacking a British officer. The officer struck him with his sword and Morgan pushed him down. 500 lashes was usually fatal, but Morgan stayed conscious during the punishment counting the lashes along with the drummer boy assigned to count. One tough SOB!
I visited Cowpens around 1998. It's not nearly as large a battlefield as I had guessed. Overall, it's very well laid out, with plenty of plaques and markers to tell the story of the battle. The visitors center was also nice. Definitely a good day trip.
My middle school was named after Morgan. We learned all about him. He was a boss.
What up Winchester. My middle school was James wood. That town is so important to American history but nobody knows.
@@pauk834 so much history here. You don’t really realize it as a kid.
So little is ever taught of Cowpens or Kings Mountain that 99 out 100 people have never heard of the most pivotal battles of the Revolution that sent Cornwallis eventually to Yorktown were he surrendered. Nathanial Green and Daniel Morgan are American heros whos names should be celebrated far more.
I never heard of the battle or of Morgan, which pisses me off too because I thought I knew so much about our American Revolution and its cast of incredibly hard nose men.
My God this is an amazing story!🔥🇺🇸
Nice, another video just when my liver has recovered from the last one. 🍺🥃
😂😂😂
One of my favorite battles..right up there with Marathon...
HUZZAH!!!! And a little dusting to that one armed, whistle blowing Pat Ferguson.....
"Do not insult me again"
Well told
There's a statue of Daniel Morgan in my town of Spartanburg South Carolina my grandmother last name was Morgan
1:55 500 seems like alot. Ya wouldn't need to prescribe that many, to kill me plenty dead.
A tough man, no doubt!
👍
500 lashes, let alone with a cat o' nine tails, is way over the top. They basically gave him a death sentence for slapping someone. In revenge, Morgan pushed Bannister _over_ the edge… Love his style.
BT certainly fought the war with total conviction & enthusiasm, but his tactical acumen at times seemed to be subservient to his emotions, & he rushed in headlong when to do so was fatal.
BT to me seemed too transparent in his military intentions, & his colonial opponents exploited this weakness.
Bro I couldn't take 500 lashes from a cat toy!!!;)
Or could???;) giggidy!!!
Where is now the boasting Tarrolton , awesome!
One hundred seventy years later the US Navy honored the battle of Cowpens by commissioning an aircraft carrier "the Cowpens" also known to history as the "Mighty Moo." It seems the greatest American victories are sometimes humble.
Anyone notice the momentary change in his voice ?
Daniel Morgan vs. Redcoats has more to do with the OK Corral than anything in Tombstone does these days.😂
There's no need to ascribe any great tactical skill to Morgan: he won by weight of numbers, 2500 Rebels versus about 1000 British, many of whom were Loyalists. Of course, given that Washington, Greene, Gates and Wayne would almost certainly have been defeated despite having that numerical advantage, Morgan does deserve a little credit. In wars of this nature it's inevitable that the Terrorists lie about both their strength and losses - at Guildford, for example, Greene actually had over 6000 men and lost at least 1250 killed and wounded, while the British had 1900 troops and lost about 500 (though the British Army was alone in counting the lightly-wounded; everyone else - French/Prussians/Russians/Austrians/Americans - only included the severely-wounded). This is why the British usually had wounded-to-killed ratios of 5:1 or 6:1, whereas everyone else had 2:1 or 3:1.
LOL.
THEY, the Americans still think they won this war on their own: without British complacency, half heartedness, & not taking the rebels seriously. Like in the English Civil War, over a century earlier.
AND the frog eating Froggies 🐸🐸& greasy garlic eating🧄🫢Spics who provided them with troops, cannons, ships & men.
PS THANK EWE YT for your asinine PC MC perversity 'advice' on how to post comments🤭
At Freeman's Farm, Morgan's men routed a line of Loyalists and gave pursuit, right into Burgoine's main force. What he did at Cowpens had been done to him at Freeman's Farm, although spontaneously, not as strategy.
We're not holding grudges after two hundred forty three years? Are we? Strategic or not. The Continental Army won the day. What upsets the limes is the fact psychologically they still think they are master's while other former colonies are subordinates. We my tea toting, crumpet munching friend utterly refuse to bow before pompous illusionaries. One cannot turn the clock or passages of history backwards to the what if scenario. One either accepts what occurred in the current; or one carries a grudge while living in a world of illusion.
USA! USA! USA!
Morgan and Greene won the revolution.
Don't forget about Marion "The Swamp Fox".
Daniel Morgan a true American Savage
LOL he was a Welshman first.
@@B1Gdipperborn and raised in New Jersey goon
It's not a stretch in stating that Daniel Morgan started the end of the British military with his exploits at Camden and South Carolina he is one of the least respected and in my opinion most important military leaders during the entire American Revolution. He understood the audacity of the British and use their arrogance against them at Cowpens which led irretrievably to The Retreat of Cornwallis at Yorktown and his eventual defeat. Daniel Morgan personifies the American Spirit of middle finger in your face Independence. All this with a severe back injury after years of fighting on the frontier. God Bless America and keep that channel going brother
ARROGANCE...LMAO.
YOU Americans are arrogant & deluded too.
INDEPENDENCE...LOL.
WITHOUT your greasy garlic eating chums the Spics & Frogs there would have been no rebel victory in war; perhaps just a painful prolonged & costly stalemate.
NO French blockading fleet off Yorktown , & French sapper's artillery on land at Yorktown.
THE worst British military defeat & surrender until the loss of Singapore to the Japanese in WW2.
I'M not bitter about our loss of the colonies to the American rebels; no divorce is painless.
BUT you're selective historical myopia about our shared history is irritating, but amusing too.
WHAT puzzles me about this war is how Britannia fought this war so half heartedly, & didn't take the rebellion seriously; considering over a century earlier the rebels in the English Civil War had won.
DID the Americans ever think back to this successful rebellion & console themselves that the rebels, like Old Ironsides Oliver Cromwell, could win again?
"IT'S NOT A STRETCH IN STATING..." that you Americans love to big up how you won this rebellious war on your own; without the help of foreign intervention ie the French & Spanish.
WELL a two fingered 🇬🇧 'salute' to your greasy garlic eating chums!
WHAT puzzles me is how every now & then we British are seized by a sort of military incompetence & lassitude leading to disastrous defeat.
This was one of those times; another time was the British military surrender, to the Japanese at Singapore in WW2.
UNFORTUNATELY the apes & coolies in suits who misrun the King's military, I fear, are going to commit the same complacent & over confident mistakes in the EWEkraine & eastern Yurup🫣
I'M not bitter about the loss of the American colonies; you & we were better off without each other; & we still had Canada...phew!
Born and raised in Charleston, living in Columbia in my adult years. Great video as always, Camden and cow pens are great sites to tour.
I have never heard anything about this part of our history before. It’s refreshing to hear about it from you, sir! I appreciate every one of your posts and never miss a single one. Thank you!
They sort of reenact it in The Patriot at the end. Mel character is loosely based on Morgan.
An outstanding piece of American History !😊
This program should be taught in our schools, learning about our history is a life long enjoyment. Thanks
That was a wonderful and extremely informative lecture. Thank you for all your hard work. The video drew me to your channel and as a lifelong military historian…your video selection looks great and you have a new subscriber. I would add one item to your discussion-the rifle might have a range of 350 yards, but it took a very long time to reload (as compared to a Brown Bess being used by an English soldier). Riflemen couldn’t stand in a normal battle line, alone.
This sounds great, I always have a gruler on Fridays. So I really look forward to this , I really get great enjoyment just relaxing and listening. The best. 🤝🇮🇪
Truly great BG Daniel Morgan is one of my Rev war heroes, Could you do HOKC on the "Battle of Kings Mountain" I believe it would be a good one to do it turned the tide of the Southern Campaign in favor of the American cause as well as bringing Gen. Cornwalce to Yorktown. The Over-Mountain Men Vs. Maj Patrick Ferguson.
Cheers from Colorado.
I always say, "you only get true American patriotism from the first generations."
Awesome timing on this video!
I’ve been studying the Battle of Cowpens for the past month and cannot learn enough about it! 🥳🇺🇸
This lecture is great. He explains WHY it’s considered such a “perfect battle” and victory:

I’ve been there.
How do you not have millions of subs? Keep pushing, you’re gonna break that ceiling soon enough.
Harvard business school is gay as hell 😅😅 cool video tho.👍👍
Lord, make me fast and accurate.
Brilliant Tactics at Cowpens!! Mixed in some Sun Tzu and Hannibal. While possibly being unaware of either of their teachings. Inspired leadership.
I spent a lot of time in North Carolina when my brother lived there and I always pass by cowpens knowing it has something to do with the history thank you for the insight once again thanks for the American Patriots Daniel Morgan
Does anyone know the painting at 20:00? I want to get a print of it haha
Brilliant video, extra insight gained from something I'd already read about. Your Welsh accident needs work though 😜
Daniel Morgan is one of the most unheralded American Heroes of all time.
Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot was based on him. 🇺🇸
Gibson’s character was, in fact, a composite of Thomas Sumter, Francis Marion, and Daniel Morgan.
Should teach it in schools make it number one instead of teaching girls Should be boys and boys Should be girls and unions Should not get involved with schooling at all
_A 16 mile pursuit?!_ Those horses must have been blown for days.
That Trumpet player in William Washington’s Dragoons is my 5th Great Grandfather
My 4th great grandfather William Ketcheson was a dragoon in Sir Banister Tarleton's British Legion and was wounded in the battle of Cowpens. In "The Green Dragoon", an historical account of Sir Banister Tarleton, it is recorded that the legions surgeon was offered a battlefield parole for the 200 wounded, and were brought to Charleston, SC to recuperate. Ketcheson was granted land near Belleville, Ont. adjoining the land provided for the Mohawk Reservation, after they left New York State. At age 15, he and his family had arrived in Portsmouth, VA in 1774 before resetting near New York City when hostilities began.🎉
I'm a descendant of Swamp Fox Francis Marion. I'd say our ancestors crossed paths although on different sides
Thank you, sir! See you next week. Happy Friday to all🇺🇸🇺🇸
I just found out today I am directly descended from daniel morgan.
*_Ice to see you!_* 🥶 -Daniel Morgan (I think…)
The fake canon is exactly the type of thing I would have employed. I am always surprised how few commanders showed any creativity or deception.
"Let's count out loud." Ill get the bill later. Damn Danny
whoa.... at about 13:20 I hear an Irishman narrating?....
13:33 Suspicious, ain't it?🤔
What would he think now
I have been on a two week bender since finding your channel
And i quote, "Do not insult me again." Ay, captain Morgan!
Fantastic as always!!
That was a really good one
He was a genius concerning British arrogance. But in their defense the British has had their way til then! Awesome Daniel Morgan!
Thanks to tuco the ratt for recommending me this awesome channel! Amazing video, subbed ❤
@VloggingThroughHistory This video deserves a reaction!!!
Also, as the British failed to learned in 1066, be very certain before pursuing a "broken and fleeing" line
Great story
One of the fathers of modern day Batt Boisssssss
Very good but mistitled. Cowpens was not won by guerilla fighters. Cowpens was a textbook battle for the times. The backbone of the American forces there were the Delaware and Maryland seasoned regulars who had been trained by Von Stueben. Morgan made use of the militia as shock troops only and never expected them to stand against British regulars. Cowpens was fought in the conventional style and not only Washington but Morgan too looked down on untrained militia.
They said that in the video, and covered the tactics of the battle.
I didn't get the idea they claimed it was a guerrila battle, but that morgans rifelmen had engaged in those methods before the battle. 🙏🏻🇺🇸
Great story. Thanks.
Each of the commanding officers from Cowpens could have their own episodes!
Andrew Pickens and the Ring Fight with the Cherokees would make a great one.
Thanks for the great content!
This battle is depicted in the Mel Gibson movie "The Patriot"
Good Video
I miss your episodes friends. Haven’t seen new ones lately.
Would be interesting to hear the exploits of American Loyalists on HOKC, it seems to be an untold story
AND American Indians, & what did the French Canadians in BNA do?
@@B1Gdipperhe has talked about Natives fighting with both sides various times.
20 year old Anne Kennedy of Union County rode into the Morgan's camp and warned them of the advancing British. Anne was not the only messenger to bring Morgan reports of British movements.
I wonder how many rifles they had in their militia. If they had any, they may have provoked Tarleton's rashness, being under fire, with bullets spinning into their ranks from out of musket range. I wonder at what range the first main volley was fired, how much time they had to deliver the second.
Wouldnt have defeated the british without the french
I'm always getting unsubscribed by the algorithm
Great stuff!

TY. Good to see these again.
👍
Not a bad telling of the battle of Cowpens, I would disagree with some of your comments. Overall, however, I think it was a good presentation.
