    There is a comment below by Jeannette H., that reads 'Best instruction video ever for installing a new microwave!'. That pretty much sums things up. Concise, instructive, intuitive and perfect in every way. If only the rest of TH-cam would follow this format...Thank you!

    Unrivaled clarity with directions. After viewing, I went out, bought a replacement unit and installed it without incident. This presentation made that effort possible and saved me a $150 install fee. Thank you, iScaper1 ! ! !

    No vent to outside in your oven. Thank you for the filler block instructions. I changed the oven brand from GE to Samsung. The locations of these 2 main bolt holes in GE and Samsung are so close together, I end up with bad figure 8 holes (no strength left in the board and may pull thru). Your video shown The filler blocks. It save the day for me. Thank you for the GREAT video and you took time to teach us step-by-step. You are the BEST.

We tried installing one of these about an hour ago and were frustrated because some of the instructions didn’t make sense and we had an unexpected gap between the microwave and the cabinet. After watching this video, we retraces our steps and fixes our mistakes. It’s 1am and we are tired but so grateful for this helpful video that - literally - saved our skin.

      EXACTLY- and, he did not deal with the BIGGEST problem many face- when the F'ing backsplash gets it the way because the space is Not big enough (too big of a space can also be a problem) for the new MW.
      I searched all over and ALL of the proper MWs now are BIGGER than my opening so I need to cut my back splash out (and inch or two) with an Angle Grinder (after I buy one) 😖

    • @Iscaper

      Thanks Rich for the feedback on the video. I doubt your existing hardware will work on the new microwave unless it the same brand/model. You could measure the slot spacing on the new microwave and see if it matches up with the old support bracket. Every microwave I've replaced I had to replace the support bracket also.

    I just recently installed a new GE microwave (Model# JVM6175EF1ES) and wanted to add my comments regarding the installation. Mine came with a paper template that looked much like the one in this video and I too was racking my brains trying to figure out the best way to use it. I even considered cutting out a template with the shipping box since the cardboard was much stiffer than the paper template. Then I had a brainstorm!
    What I did was just forget the template...completely. I installed the rear mounting bracket as stated in the instructions. Then I, with the help of my wife, lifted the microwave and dry fitted it onto the bracket to verify it fit properly, which it did. As stated in this video the new unit is not heavy at all.
    I then took it down, installed the top mounting bolts (2 of them) then ran them about 95% of the way in. I then applied a special formula (toothpaste) to the bolt tops, reinstalled the microwave and lifted it up until it met the bottom of the cabinet. Note: check to see if it makes a mark on both sides, if not you may need to slightly unscrew a bolt until it touches the cabinet. Then we took the unit back down, made a mark with a pen, or marker, right in the middle, wiped away the toothpaste and voila!, there are your drill points. ( I used a pencil but it tended to smear when wiping the toothpaste away.).
    After drilling the holes it lined up perfectly the first time and was so easy. Give it a try.
    One other note about my unit, the rear mounting bracket had riser arms that made it easy to install without even needing the rear template. I simply pushed the bracket all the way up until it touched the bottom of the cabinet and installed a couple screws to hold the bracket in place. I tried using the stud finder tool but it was proving unreliable so I simply mounted a very small drill bit and just made test holes until I verified I was finding a stud. I then used the wood screws included for those locations and the drywall toggle bolts for the others.

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a unique way to install a microwave, thanks for the information.

    • @SirRommy
      @SirRommy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +angrymachine312 What you are supposed to do is put spacer blocks of wood so they are flush with the bottom of the cabinet. If you don't you'll have a space where the screws will pull on the cabinet and warp it. The screws are pretty long so they will go thru the spacer blocks and the cabinet bottom too. That is how my cabinets are built.

    Excellent video, clearly explained, systematic and thorough, and the steps clearly depicted in proper order. As Linda astutely mentioned below, this unit is not venting anywhere, appears there is no place for spent fumes to exit the kitchen other than the room itself. is the range/cooktop/stove vented via another source?

      This model was shipped from the factory for recirculating (non-vented
      ductless) exhaust. We don't have an exterior vent in the kitchen.

    Very informative video. Showed a step by step process on how to install an over the range microwave. Now it would be great if only the companies these microwaves could make the holes holding the microwave a standard distant. This would prevent the Swiss cheese look to my cabinets. LOL.

      Well since it was MY microwave and I asked for the help they said I did NOT pay attention like Sean was.... (it had been in the box on the floor for a month..I did sit on the couch and watch a time or two) the video was really good. We had a debate on the suggestion you made about the paper being flimsy (which was TRUE) I thought you said it needed to be thinner my friend said again you DONT listen he said thicker! :0|

      I did say I wished the template was thicker. Is your new microwave installed and working?

    I would also recommend adding a surge protection power bar. Mine just got smoke with a power surge.

    nice video one thing you forgot to show was how to set up the exhaust fan for out the top/out the back or recirculating out the front witch in your case you had no vent out the wall or roof

    That paper template should go up pretty easy with some double sided tape on the back.

    the only thing i would add to all OTR microwave DIY installs is to measure the dimensions of the microwave you are replacing first. I mean seems logical but is a crucial step in getting a seamless replacement.

    thanks as always for a very thorough instructions - how did you manage to put filler blocks? I returned to watch the video again and I do not see how you put them. did you scotch them or glued them first to the cabinet bottom?

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boris Key
      Neither, I installed the center screw through the cabinet into the top of the microwave, then tightened the center bolt until there was just enough clearance that the blocks would go into the gaps on the ends. Then I threaded the bolts on each end through the filler blocks into the top of the microwave.

      If the brackets are identical and the microwaves are the same size it's worth a try.
