    First nothing about Tool Crase but the one I have been nothing but a pain in the ass. Steam kills yes it has fan but that's a big joke did not help. Bottom line is my has been problem free for 2 or 3 years now because it is broke and I am NOT FIXING IT AGAIN. So just letting some of you know how ever they all may not be the same but I'll not try another one that's up to you hope it works if you do try.

      Glad my video was able to help out! Also, moving the range out of the way isn't so much about worrying about damaging the oven (though it is a positive side effect) but not having it there in the way makes the entire microwave removal and install so much easier.

    Hi. I just had mine installed and for some reason it seems to be too high. The instructions were followed but it's still bothering me. So my question is how many inches should it be from the gas stove to microwave. I know floor to cabinet is minimum 66". Thanks.

    • @ToolCraze
      @ToolCraze  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as your over the minimum you're good. If it is much higher than the minimum it isn't necessarily a problem unless you physically can't reach it or it just looks weird. In either case you will need to lower the cabinet if possible or replace the cabinet with a taller cabinet so the bottom of the cabinet is lower but only as long as you don't go less than the minimum height requirement.

    Rather than cut the tile, you can also use a spacer board behind the lower bracket. There are other videos that show this.

    • @ToolCraze
      @ToolCraze  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many ways of doing things, your way is one option that works and by all means go for it if that is what you feel works best for your case. Although putting a spacer behind the bracket is counter intuitive, it would be better if you fill the untiled wall with a material like thin panel board or similar so the back wall is flush with the tile however cutting the tile works best for someone who already owns a grinder and a diamond wheel although diamond wheels are pretty cheap if one does not have one and would be a great cost and time effective way to do it and thus you don't have to worry about making the back wall flush with the tile. Hope that helps.

    I just took out my original Wall Oven and the connected Microwave (all one unit), it was all connected to a 240v junction box stuffed into a cut-out hole on the back drywall with one metal hose. I am installing a new GE wall oven and a separate GE Microwave above the oven (two separate components). Obviously, the oven will get a metal hose to the 240v, but this particular wall Microwave has a regular 120v wall plug. I will need to wire up an outlet. Can I tap into the 240v junction box for 120v and run 12-2 romex to just one side of the 240v circuit (120v) and run that to the newly purchased outlet (receptacle) so I can plug the new microwave in? In other words, the old units were sharing the 220v junction box (old Oven was 220 and old Microwave was 120). It's just that the old unit was an all-in-one combo where the new units are separately purchased and don't share the same wiring. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

    This is old so I understand if you don't see this but... our microwave like this slowly lost features. Started with the over range light, then the clock, now nothing works. Sometimes a light flashes on the display when I open and close it. The outlets are good and breaker isn't tripped. Is there any troubleshooting that can be done or am I stuck with having to contact my property's maintenance?

  • @retiredyeti5555
    @retiredyeti5555 ปีที่แล้ว

    It appears that whoever installed the over the range microwave for the former owner, did not follow electrical code. My electrician found it plugged into a loose female connector that was spliced on to Romex. Now there is a proper outlet box and dedicated outlet in the soffit above the wall. We had to cut an access hole in the soffit to find the dangerous wiring in the first place. Now I have roughly a 6 inch by 12 inch access panel in the soffit. It will be fun removing the top screws whenever I have to replace the microwave. I told my wife that we would be better off leaving the old microwave in place after disconnecting it from the power outlet, and using it to store plates instead. Then just buy a countertop microwave instead of all the hassle of removing the old one.
    All of our kitchen cabinets are the originals from the build in 1957, and are all built into the walls, not freestanding cabinets that were added after construction. That is what a cabinetmaker in the family explained to me.

    I just installed my microwave, I was repacking one that was already there.. I had the same problem with the back splash- I was looking to confirm how to handle it- I did not want to get into a messy cut of less than an inch, what I did as an alternative- I went and bought two pieces of 3ft x 4” pieces of good hard wood- it was 3/8 inch thick same as the marble- I put one across the bottom and one across the top of the open area and attached the bracket to the wood- came out like a dream- only negative you might find is it extends the microwave out an extra 3/8 inch but sure saved me a messy cut with a tool that I do not own at this time... thanks for sharing.

    • @ToolCraze
      @ToolCraze  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could do it over backsplash however doing so would lead to a couple of problems that need to be solved before moving forward. The first is, does the backsplash cover the entire wall section? If not like in my case, there would be a problem were the bottom backside would rest over the tile while the upper backside would lay on the wall and wouldn't sit flush or parallel to the wall. This means the microwave would tilt a bit which is not ideal, you want it to be as level as possible. If the backsplash doesn't fill the entire wall section, there are two options, either fill in the gap with something like plywood that's about the same thickness as the backsplash or the easier route, you cut the backsplash.
      The next problem is if there's tile Or plywood or other material covering the wall, how would you find the studs to properly secure the bracket to the wall? Stud finders have a hard enough time as it is trying to find studs behind drywall. They're not very accurate. Not to say you can't, maybe you already know where the studs are but you need to find at least one stud to properly secure the mounting bracket.
      So you could install a microwave over a backsplash, it just makes it a lot harder to do right and have to do some problem solving but to me cutting the backsplash is the much easier and cheapest route with excellent results. Even if you don't have an angle grinder, you can get one for cheap with a coupon for around $10 at harbor freight and a diamond blade is about the same price for a cheap one. That and a flat head screwdriver to knockout the tiles and that's it.

    If the replacement microwave is the same size, does the original mounting bracket have to be replaced?

    • @ToolCraze

      Unless it's the same model or one that uses the same bracket, then yes.

    Should the microwave be sitting flush against the back wall or should there be a small gap?

    • @ToolCraze

      It depends on your model. But I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you line up your wall and under cabinet templates properly and all will be well

    Can these microwaves replace a range hood vent? Instead of buying a range hood vent can i just buy one of these microwave for grease?

    • @ToolCraze

      Yes, they have a built in fan with intake outtake vents and a light just like a vent hood and has the added benefit of getting your microwave off the countertop for added counter space.

    If I am going to install a same make/model microwave and the mounting bracket is the same, would I even need to pull the old one down if it is looks good?

    • @ToolCraze
      @ToolCraze  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If all is the same especially the bracket, then no need to remove the old bracket and only need to do a hot swap of the microwave. Just double check the under cabinet mounting holes remain in the same location as the new microwave and you're good to go.

      Thanks and the cabinet template is ridiculously easy to use. Just fold at the markings for the thickness of the cabinet frame panels if the bottom is recessed. No need to fold if not recessed, see simple.

    Great instructional video; really enjoyed the brevity and getting straight to the point. One more thing that would have been good to cover is how to properly seal that gas connection when putting the stove back in place, cause a leak there could be disastrous.

    • @ToolCraze
      @ToolCraze  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No two are alike so it won't work on the new microwave unless it's the same exact model. Trust me I know from experience. I've replace several microwaves in the same kitchen and the new brackets are never the same. Wish they would be as it means I wouldn't have to install from scratch.
