      He does it so effortlessly. I'm like you George. If doing this myself, it will take me at least 3 days. A whole of cussing. A few tears. And definitely a call and trip to Lowe's. Ending result, I'm paying for a Lowe's technician, to come in and get it done.

    First time ever project for me. I watched this video and followed the instructions step-by-step. I didn't do it as fast as this guy (took me 1 hour from start to finish) but am presuming he has done this a time or two. Also, I was working alone and so had to create my own lift support to hold the microwave up so I could install the top anchoring bolts. I used a plastic flat top beer cooler and some folded towels on top of the cooler lid and sat the microwave on top of the cooler and towels after first anchoring the unit to the back wall brace. It was quite easy. Thanks Lowes guy!!.

    There's all those holes in the mount for a reason. Use the ones that line up on a freaking stud instead of using a drywall anchor unless there's no stud on one side.

    Great video. Watched it before my install, and it was a breeze. It was a birthday gift for my wife. Thankfully, I had the same brand microwave so the wall bracket was reusable. The microwave I got also had the blower setup to recirculate as the default (per the manual and per testing) so that was one less step I had to do. Be sure to check your microwave's manual to determine if you need to rotate the blower or not - you may not need to, but the video shows you how, just in case. Thanks.

      I have to admit that installing a 50 lbs oven with no handles under a cabinet, that’s another story.
      To make it easier, they should remove the stove/range out of the way. Also, put a few planks across the range opening and use it as a step for the oven. That’s what I do.

    Keep in mind that not all microwaves come off the wall that way. Our old Frigidaire was installed into a bracket with 2 arms. Those arms were connected with two bolts that were behind the vent grille on the front of the microwave (in addition to the two bolts on top in the cabinet). Posting this in hopes that it saves someone some time...we pulled on that Frigidaire for a long time before figuring out how it was bolted in.

    Definitely use a template because you’ll be drilling other holes or larger holes. If you’re installing a used microwave, make templates out of cardboard. Also, sometimes you’ll find used microwaves with missing wall mount brackets. You can use your old mounting bracket you’ll just have to use tin shears to make notches so your used microwave will mount.

    Great video thanks. I did this install today but wish I watched this video before although I watched many others. Two tips I liked were drilling pilot holes from below the cabinet, before drilling down through the top to prevent damage to the cabinet finish. And because this is a recessed cabinet above the microwave, you can reuse the same hole for the cord. I drilled another hole for the new microwave cord when I could have reused the old microwave hole. This only applies to a recessed cabinet top. If it was flush you will for sure have to drill a new hole. Hope this helps other's with these two items.

    All in all this video was done well and informative. I agree with another commet about adding a lot more time to your estimate to get this done.
    Most videos are like 2-3 mins and everything goes perfectly but I am glad that this explains for example when you dont have a stud to drill into and especially pre drilling the cabinets so you don't have a blowout on the cabinet.
    Makes me proud to be a head cashier at Lowe's. (Not really) but well done on the video.

    Excellent instructions, thanks! I find it helpful if you’re replacing a microwave to replace with the same brand if possible. This increases your chance of not having to replace mounting brackets. Mine was replaced in about an hour with a couple of extra hands to help hold/lift.

      Except, if one is specifically NOT buying the same brand (Frigidaire) because it's a piece of junk. It came with a new house, went kaput after about 2 years. I then bought a warranty for two more years, a technician came out and fixed it, and it went kaput again after another 2.5 years. Everyone in the subdivision has the same problem with Frigidaire.

    FYI If this helps anyone I removed 13year old GE microwave oven told my wife wanted to replace with another new GE microwave hoping the mounting hardware would match the old microwave. Bingo was a match after 13years. Made this installation a peace cake. Took about 15 minutes. Something to think about if your replacing an older microwave.

    Very good video! I liked the easier method of taping the top template to the outer edges of the recessed cabinet, then poking through with a pencil. A lot easier than trimming and taping template to the inside area. If there was anything I'd do different, it would be testing the microwave before installation. Thanks!

    Silly question... i've never recirculated exhaust before... are filter changes necessary, and if so how often? Must the microwave be un-mounted in order to do a filter change? It appears it would have to be?

    You forgot to mention some older microwaves have safety latches on the back. You have to remove the top grill on a HOTPOINT to access the unlock screws to release the safety latches. Video was good for general microwave removal and installation

  • @toddphipps5496
    @toddphipps5496 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just to add...if the top of cabinet opening has a lip hang over(for lack of a better term), you will need to lower your template on the back of wall to the same height of the front so that the space is level in the front and back of the unit.
    You can trim the template edges so that it fits inside the trim frame.

    General Suggestion: If you have an older model, Go online and read the installation model/ look at parts. After reviewing multiple TH-cam’s and struggling to remove my 20 year old microwave (yea, crazy it lasted so long!)...I researched the manual/ parts pictures online and discovered my bracket was mounted on the top with two, long mounting screws that had to be removed from the front of the microwave! (Sharp Model 1481).

    • @marylinharris1353
      @marylinharris1353 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s great your Sharp microwave lasted that long, definitely the new one won’t last half that time. I left a 26 year old Toshiba microwave in the last house I sold and it was still working fine.

    A good video but I'm wondering, before you attached the template on the wall, why you didn't trim it along the dotted lines first as it states to do so right on the template? This explains the small gap you have between the top of the microwave and the bottom of the cabinet.
