Hidden filter? Not many know. But now I do. Installation info you get in box is horrible. Yours the Best video on TH-cam explaining how to do it. Thank you!
Thanks for this video! I opened mine to replace the carbon filter. I could not replace the filter because there was nothing to replace😂. 10 years without lol. I bought a 6 pack of filters will see if it even makes a difference.
Excellent!!! I am amazed that the Samsung installation guide “DOES NOT” mention anything about the tabs and placing the filter at an angle. I thought there was something odd when I placed the filter in the “FLAT” position as illustrated in the actual Samsung installation guide. Thank you for post this video …..
Thank you kindly, I’m so thankful I came across your video. We’ve had our Microwave up for more than a several months. Just noticed my filter light is on. We have the same model MW. I would like to ask you a serious question please. Does the top portion of your MW tilt forward approx 1” (or so)? I’m assuming this is so I can access the screws in order to get to the Charcoal Filter easily.
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad you found value with this video. As far as the top, my unit doesn't really "tilt" forward; however, the unit does protrude outwards (as you mentioned for access to the filter housing).
@@BDTube2006 I appreciate your reply more than you know. Thanks so much. You’ve gained a new follower 😊 As others have said, you really do a fantastic and thorough job walking us through. I now have a clean Charcoal Filter, in part thank to you. YAY!
Great video but i noticed that at Home Depot they do not carry a samsung replacement air filter and i was told any same size filter of other brands will work fine, any opinion on that ?
I have a couple Amazon links in the video description of both Samsung and Off-market brands. As long as the size is correct, you're good to go. Charcoal is charcoal, I don't think that aspect really matters all that much.
I have the same model as you- however when I checked the upper charcoal chamber- there was no filter no filter container where I can see plainly there should be one. So obviously it did not come with one. What do I do. We bought this unit this past summer 2023.
You can simply order a replacement charcoal filter. You should see those small tabs on the sides that the filter will sit on. I've placed links (Amazon) in the video description.
Thank you so much for uploading! Saved my dad a lot of hassle with the instructions when installing our microwave. He also loved your hairdryer joke lol 😊
The manual doesn't explain how to reset the filter light. When I replaced the filter the first time I didn't play your video to the end and the light has remained on. Thank you for including this step in your video. I wonder how many homes that have this microwave have this filter light on?
Thank you for the comment! ...That's also a great question! :D ...I would add, how many of those homes completely disregard cleaning and changing their filters too (especially the grease filter). It's a simply fix that adds so much value. Again, thank you for your comment.
I soak my filters in simple geeen and dawn overnight. Next day got water and another Dawn soak for 10 min air dry and squeaky clean.no buying filters here!
Oh so once in a while mine says replace the filter, but it vents to the outside. I was wondering if I still had to replace it, but by looking at the internal parts on this video, it looks like when the duct is set to vent outside, it bypasses the filter all together anyway. Good to know, thanks! 👍
ty for all your help and i was so surprised when i opened the upper filter, there was NOT ONE, but there is one now, i guess when they installed the oven they never installed the filter , wow , ty again for helping me
Surprisingly, it's more common than you think! Thank you for the comment. Well done getting everything replaced and working they way it was intended to do so :D
You are quite welcome! Unfortunately, I do not have an install video. However, I wish I did as I would have installed this much cleaner than the previous installation :D whoever install this setup butchered my cabinets--Ha!
You're welcome. Was having lingering cooking smells which led me to your video about filter changing. I opened my Samsung on top and NO filter at all! The knuckleheads from Home Depot installed my Microwave without a charcoal filter! Anyway, got a perfect fitting inexpensive Botna filter on Amazon. Thanks again!
@randyshipp8343 no, the charcoal filter needs to be replaced. The filter underneath (typically where the lights are), those are grease filters and can be washed.
When the light comes on is there a way to know which filter it is indicating or should we just clean/change them all? Also if the light comes on and it hasn't been 6 months can we just clean the charcoal filter instead of replacing it?
The filter indicator should trigger sometime between four to six months (which refers to both filters). This indicator is simply a reminder that you should clean/replace the filters (you can also turn this function off as well; but helps to keep the maintenance up on the microwave for optimal performance). Luckily, the grease filters are reusable, and as you can see in the video, it's quite a quick process. If you have any other questions, let me know! Thank you!
My OTR microwave has vent which goes behind the cabinet. The installer didn’t even install the charcoal filter, is that normal ( like optional to add the charcoal filter if the blower fans it outside ). I saw the video and checked the box and saw the charcoal filter unused and have added it. Would it do any harm??
No harm whatsoever. The charcoal filter is used to reduce the amount of debris that may get past the grease filter as well as reducing the smells that are blown back into the ambient air. If you're venting outside, you probably won't have the smells that may develop, but it will reduce the amount of grease residue building up in the vent that's plumb to the outside. Good job adding it.
@@carlosmedina8512 absolutely, two options are linked in the video description. If you are having trouble accessing the video description, let me know and I'll grab the link for you.
Mine is the self venting microwave, but there's so much condensation on the oitside of the door and cabinet when I ise it. Is that normal? I also noticed that the wall behind nad under the microwave gets wet due to all the condensation. Any suggestions?
I would def. check to make sure your fan motor is setup in the correct venting orientation. The motor can be vented in two directions. If it's not venting out (up), then it may be setup to vent to the rear and depending where the microwave is mounted (if mounted like the one shown in the video), the unit is trapping all the air behind the cabinets.
Thank you for the comment. If you're changing the blower configuration, I would unplug it. However, for filter changes, you do not have to unplug the microwave.
4:47 I beg to differ. Piece of cheap plastic that's easy to break. Putting it back is more of a pain. Samsung could've also provided a couple years worth of charcoal filters. Stick w/ smartphones & TV's. I don't mean to complain. Thanks for demo as Samsung included a manual for a completely different model in my box.

Same issue. I just ordered replacements from Amazon and they clipped in great.
Question please: if my microwave has a vent on top would I not need the charcoal filter as displayed??? Thanks so much!! Loved your video!!!
If it's venting back into your kitchen, I would recommend having the charcoal filter.
If you have the exterior vent installed, do you need to install the carbon filter ?
@crankshaft007 if venting to the exterior, no, the carbon filter is not required. The carbon filter is for recirculation only.
