Thanks for this video! I opened mine to replace the carbon filter. I could not replace the filter because there was nothing to replace😂. 10 years without lol. I bought a 6 pack of filters will see if it even makes a difference.
Excellent!!! I am amazed that the Samsung installation guide “DOES NOT” mention anything about the tabs and placing the filter at an angle. I thought there was something odd when I placed the filter in the “FLAT” position as illustrated in the actual Samsung installation guide. Thank you for post this video …..
I have the same model as you- however when I checked the upper charcoal chamber- there was no filter no filter container where I can see plainly there should be one. So obviously it did not come with one. What do I do. We bought this unit this past summer 2023.
You can simply order a replacement charcoal filter. You should see those small tabs on the sides that the filter will sit on. I've placed links (Amazon) in the video description.
Oh so once in a while mine says replace the filter, but it vents to the outside. I was wondering if I still had to replace it, but by looking at the internal parts on this video, it looks like when the duct is set to vent outside, it bypasses the filter all together anyway. Good to know, thanks! 👍

The manual doesn't explain how to reset the filter light. When I replaced the filter the first time I didn't play your video to the end and the light has remained on. Thank you for including this step in your video. I wonder how many homes that have this microwave have this filter light on?
Thank you for the comment! ...That's also a great question! :D ...I would add, how many of those homes completely disregard cleaning and changing their filters too (especially the grease filter). It's a simply fix that adds so much value. Again, thank you for your comment.
Could you let me know how to install an external ventilation to this type of microwave oven. I would like to push the air out rather than circulate it. Is there a vent out for the same.
Correct. If you're going to vent out of the house you will need to simply change the direction of the blower (fan). At the rear of the microwave, there are a few screws that you take out to gain access to the fan. You will change the direction of the fan by removing the fan and turning it so that the duct faces to the rear. ***You will need to vent this through the wall of the kitchen to the exterior of the home.
@@georgeantony2718 here's a great video showcasing exactly how venting to the exterior will work out: th-cam.com/video/RaBGgKc3-W0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NYXZ_iorxQ3LW15T
@ Thanks a ton. I have my microwave oven fixed to an internal wall, so I will need to ventilate through the ceiling. I suppose rectangular ducts of the right size will be available.
Thank you kindly, I’m so thankful I came across your video. We’ve had our Microwave up for more than a several months. Just noticed my filter light is on. We have the same model MW. I would like to ask you a serious question please. Does the top portion of your MW tilt forward approx 1” (or so)? I’m assuming this is so I can access the screws in order to get to the Charcoal Filter easily.
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad you found value with this video. As far as the top, my unit doesn't really "tilt" forward; however, the unit does protrude outwards (as you mentioned for access to the filter housing).
@@BDTube2006 I appreciate your reply more than you know. Thanks so much. You’ve gained a new follower 😊 As others have said, you really do a fantastic and thorough job walking us through. I now have a clean Charcoal Filter, in part thank to you. YAY!
My OTR microwave has vent which goes behind the cabinet. The installer didn’t even install the charcoal filter, is that normal ( like optional to add the charcoal filter if the blower fans it outside ). I saw the video and checked the box and saw the charcoal filter unused and have added it. Would it do any harm??
No harm whatsoever. The charcoal filter is used to reduce the amount of debris that may get past the grease filter as well as reducing the smells that are blown back into the ambient air. If you're venting outside, you probably won't have the smells that may develop, but it will reduce the amount of grease residue building up in the vent that's plumb to the outside. Good job adding it.
You are quite welcome! Unfortunately, I do not have an install video. However, I wish I did as I would have installed this much cleaner than the previous installation :D whoever install this setup butchered my cabinets--Ha!
@@nurikim4954 No, the charcoal filter isn't being used if venting outside. However, make sure you keep the filters underneath clean as those keeps debris from entering the ventilation. Those filters can be washed.

I would def. check to make sure your fan motor is setup in the correct venting orientation. The motor can be vented in two directions. If it's not venting out (up), then it may be setup to vent to the rear and depending where the microwave is mounted (if mounted like the one shown in the video), the unit is trapping all the air behind the cabinets.
@randyshipp8343 no, the charcoal filter needs to be replaced. The filter underneath (typically where the lights are), those are grease filters and can be washed.
Great video but i noticed that at Home Depot they do not carry a samsung replacement air filter and i was told any same size filter of other brands will work fine, any opinion on that ?
I have a couple Amazon links in the video description of both Samsung and Off-market brands. As long as the size is correct, you're good to go. Charcoal is charcoal, I don't think that aspect really matters all that much.
When the light comes on is there a way to know which filter it is indicating or should we just clean/change them all? Also if the light comes on and it hasn't been 6 months can we just clean the charcoal filter instead of replacing it?
The filter indicator should trigger sometime between four to six months (which refers to both filters). This indicator is simply a reminder that you should clean/replace the filters (you can also turn this function off as well; but helps to keep the maintenance up on the microwave for optimal performance). Luckily, the grease filters are reusable, and as you can see in the video, it's quite a quick process. If you have any other questions, let me know! Thank you!
Thank you for the comment. If you're changing the blower configuration, I would unplug it. However, for filter changes, you do not have to unplug the microwave.
