Good info. One thing to add. If there is no voltage reading, you may be able to isolate the issue further. You could put the voltmeter negative lead on the battery negative or chassis ground somewhere to see if there is voltage when the voltmeter positive lead is on pin 16. If there is, you would know that the issue would be the ground wire in the connector on pin 4. and not a fuse issue. Likewise, you could put the voltmeter positive lead on the battery positive and measure with the negative lead to pin 4, which would indicate the issue would be the wire in the connector pin 16, or the supplying fuse. Of course, there is a chance that both wires are bad!!
So glad I found this video before I went under the dash searching for a loose connection or broken wire! I just bought a $40 OBDII scan tool and the vehicle I needed it for showed NOTHING when I plugged in the brand new scanner. I verified the tools function on another car and it worked perfectly so I knew someone out there had the scoop on this likely common headscratcher. Thanks for saving my back and my time. It was the Cigar fuse under the hood that when replaced, energized the OBDII port and a simple fix!

Very informative video. As suggested in this tutorial, my make/model did NOT indicate either in the manual or thumbing through many websites which specific fuse powered the OBD. I then turned to A.I. (open AI) and asked it to find the information specifically for my make/model. It provided an informative answer. So, if all else fails, you may try that method to identify the blown fuse.
Helpful video. Still haven't figured out why a new internal fuel pump wont run. BUT, this maybe related. I do have a dead OBDII port. 1996 C1500 Thanks! I think you should keep making videos.
I would jumper 12v to the + pin and check to see if the rest of the port is Ok before I start pulling wires. The odb port is part of the ecu so if it won't talk once your scan tool is powered up, you have bigger problems than " no power" . I've never seen a truly dead odb port, always connections...we have a saying in consumer electronics: "silicon doesn't fail, connectors and capacitors fail"

When my Jeep had a crank-no start problem and my OBD2 scanner(s) stopped working, the problem wasn't fuse or port corrosion, it was the ECU/ECM going bad. So with OBD2 scanner not working and no fault codes to work with, I needed to resort to testing wiring throughout w/ a Power Probe to eventually conclude my ECU had finally given up resulting in no spark at the plugs and no fuel at the injectors. $600 for an aftermarket ECU replacement unit, since Jeep had stopped making the part. Once new ECU installed (literally 5 minutes), Jeep started right up (after 3 weeks dead) and OBD2 worked fine again.

I’m in same boat. All fuses check out. And I mean all of them (my diagram of course doesn’t call it out). No obvi corrosion. This is on 06 Chevy Express 3500 front end of motorhome - cutaway chassis.
You getting power to the obd
Hi there I have a 2007 Chevy Express 3500 the pin #16 sometimes doesn't have power like in and out problem...but now it doesn't have power anymore..all fuses are good...broken wire maybe....

I have an 04 g35, don’t have a multimeter but the obd2 port pins seem to be in good shape and I can’t find info on a fuse it would be linked to
Thanks my brother.., 08 corvette liter fuse caused my odb2 port not to communicate
I wanted to ask I got a car from the dealer they have a tracker in the car which is fine but it is causing damage to my car computer because it is plugged directly into my OBD port and makes the readers not work. I don't want to disable it I just want to know if I can move it if that is possible
Had a car today where it wouldn't start. Went to scan it and found no power to the OBD connecter. Think it might be an ecu issue ?
Checked all fuses all lines no damage no bad fuses on an 05 caravan
How do u find the common wire to go off of if ur changing your obd port out..is it always number 16 or what? Thanks
Hello I have 12v between pin 1 and 4/5 peugot partner 2010 is it ok?
I've got a 03 Ram 1500 5.9L that has no fuel, no spark and no code reader. ECU is not putting out 5v for the spark and im working through it. Wondering if the crank sensor can cause all this or just a bad ecu?
my check engine light is not working anymore or my obd data port..any ideas? thanks for video.
Mr. Lee, did U Get Ur Issue Fixed!?
Just seeing this video.. I just had my transmission replaced, and a week later, my check engine light came on. I took it to auto zone and had them connect it to the code reader. Unfortunately, they said my car is not reading at all.. It use to read before my transmission was replaced. Haven't checked all fuses yet. But my cigarette litghter workes because my charger is plugged into it for my phone. Need help??
How about if im getting power to the obd port but the scanner is not communicating with the ECU ?
Same exact problem with my 98 expedition. Apparently this is a common issue. I tried everything, used several corrosion agents no change. Bent the female plugs to make better contact....no change. I am going to check the fuse or fuses but im thinking that if its powered but just not communicating probably not a fuse.... pain in the ass.
No update on your friends obd not having power? Curious if it was just a fuse or what you ended up finding out
I have a OBD two sensor has power but not reading codes on a 2006 Chevy Silverado and all the fuses seem to be good
I've got 1 now, 2000 chevy camaro, I have checked all you shown, now to divulge into wires up in the dash...HELP
do you have an idea about no power to interior fuse panel on 2003 wrangler
BRAVO ZULU
‘11 Escalade; it was the lighter fuse.
On my 2018 Chevy Colorado, state inspection stated they could not acquire a reading. But I took it to autozone and orileys both came up with a P0014 reading. Truck is running fine but any idea why state inspection could not acquire a reading?
I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra and I have this problem. I checked all fuses and all work. I tested with a tester and it does have power. Do you think that the pin is just spread open enough to not make contact with my OBD 2 reader?
Just fyi, my cigarette lighter does work. Also, how do I remove the OBD 2 plug to check the pins on the connector?
Something I'm trying to figure out. I want to build a custom digital gauge cluster for my car. I didn't need it to power on with the OBD2 port. Just a standard power port on the car is good. If i didn't connect to the power pin on the OBD2, will i still be able to get the data? My device will be powered from somewhere else in the car
Man I been looking for this video!! Thank you!!
I’m just getting the dark screen on a 06 Sienna that starter and battery was changed. Now no power windows, seats or radio work aside from no power to port and no blown fuse. No power to fuse it has either….?!?!?
If wire is broken can you connect to another +
My 2017 Honda civics OBD2 port isn’t receiving power. I checked the fuse box under the passenger side. They said it was fuse 7, but it wasn’t blown and the OBD2 port has no power. Any tips?

I have a question? I have a similar issue, only I can't connect with my PCM just my TCM, skim module light is on and I have power and ground and with 5 volt reference. I'm guessing the PCM has failed? It's a 1999 jeep grand Cherokee wj 4.7
I’ve got a 04 grand Cherokee no obd power and no cluster mileage and no cluster illumination got any idea ? No blown fuses
I have the same issue, Did you ever end up fixing this? If so, what was the cause?
Hi there! Does hooking up a camera to the OBD2 port drain the battery when the car is off?
Excellent job, thank you! 😊
We have an '02 Mini that has a dead OBD 2 port and can't figure out why! Every fuse is good and can't trace wires far enough to find the problem :(
D&E, The one day old new battery negative connector melted leaving craters by the healthy still post and the starter was smoking, at the moment I stopped the car and lifted the hood, due to so much fumes coming out from under. Can I connect to the previous battery a portable power pack 12V Centech just to see if the OBDII scanner will bring some light in whatever happened or I would do much worse by doing that? Regards from FL.
hello I have a 2004 ford ranger fx4 4.0 L v6 truck and my odb reader isnt working. would you help me find fuse it is to replace? the manual doesn't say

Okay quick question. I have an 04 Honda pilot. Wasn't getting any power to the fuel pump. Went to the main relay only getting ignition power no other power. So I'm trying to figure out if it may be my ECM because I'm also not getting information for my scanner tool. I have power just not getting any Diagnostics or codes or anything when I know there are codes in the ecm. I know it's kind of a weird question in a hard one. But I'm getting kind of lost here. Thanks in advance
I've had a sudden crank no start situation w with codes leading to the purge valve and evap. I tested all that still nothing I went to test my fuses I had a blown ignition coil fuse replaced it it did seem like it wanted to turn over spray starter fluid still nothing so I noticed that my OBD2 Bluetooth adapter wasn't holding a connection it would connect but then it would disconnect so I took my Dash plastic off and it seems that the OBD2 port is very loose and I have to hold it in a certain position to get it to keep a connection any thoughts?
will a scanner work if you can't start the vehicle?
Thank you, instructive and clear👍🏻
