Abandoned Rest Area in Alabama

  • This was an Alabama Welcome Center to travelers on Highway 31 southbound and located between Athens and Decatur. It opened in 1968 and its decline began around 1974 with the opening of Interstate 65. A new welcome center was built near Elkmont and this one was eventually closed forever.

      Thanks! I wish I could take credit for finding it but it was actually a 7 year old video on a channel called "camerabryan" where I first heard about it! I just thought it was time for an update!

      I’m over in Georgia and enjoy exploring places like this. That being said, I’m also trying to get better at making videos. If you don’t mind me asking, what camera/setup are you using here? I liked when you fed it up through the roof while recording. I thought that was cool! Anyways, you’ve definitely got some interesting looking videos as well. Btw, thank you for the reply.
