    I fingered that condo to the local radio talk show on AM 1290 way back then. Our account for that property was The Magnum in Deerfield Beach then. I used to work for a company called Bug Free Exterminating and we had the Magnum service contract. The Entire facility was what we called a "Key account." Key account means the Pest Cop ntrol Technician has the key to your residence and carries it with him, simpler times. That place is amazing. But when I got to what turned out to be Jim and Tammy Fay's future beachside resort, I was in for a ride. Opening the door, I felt cold from some kind of AC blasting over the door. Then I went in and it was dizzying. I remember this as clear as day. I was dizzy from the mirrors and low light. I learned that the glass on all of the walls, I mean walls and ceilings, was a blue tint. And the corners were cut. Imagine walking into an opulent place with cut glass on the walls and ceiling and al is blue a cut morrows. It is disorienting. The view of the beach was amazing, the bathrooms had gold fixtures. There was not one square inch of carpet, the floors were concrete, bare. Jim and Tammy were caught, red-handed after I made my call to radio. I never thought they were for real, I knew they were fraudsters.. And stumbled on the truth. Later, the Clintons had them prosecuted and sent to prison.

    I live in Sheffield, Al. I grew up in the area, but moved to Sheffield because it’s where The Stones recorded. Countless musicians still come here to record or to tour the studio. Robert Plant was here last year. It’s such a holy spot for any musician who grew up around Muscle Shoals. Thanks for posting this video and keeping the history alive.

    You should come visit Michigan if you like exploring old abandoned US highways. There is a section of old US Rte 41 south of Alberta, MI that was bypassed in the 1940s through some hilly country. It starts as a gravel two lane road that tapers down into a two track, where some of the original plank road beams are exposed. They didn't bother removing the old plank road it seems, and just paved over the top of it when it became a designated US numbered highway in the late 1920s. There are a couple of extant concrete bridges at old highway width, even though the road may be now more narrow. Worth checking out if you are ever in the area.

    I was born in 2006 and even now it’s crazy just to see all of the things that have changed just in my lifetime. Madison Square Mall is now Mid City, where the Madison Square 12 was is the Orion Amphitheater. The VBC has a parking garage in the back by the south hall. Propst Arena has a lobby. And the parking garage across the street was demo and renovated, and there is two hotels in that spot now.

    Back during the 1980s, you would see sections like this off the old U.S. Highway 80. Over time, these sections were slowly abandoned as Highway 80 west of Montgomery was upgraded. To those who didn’t know, back in the day, U.S. Highways 80 and 82 were Montgomery’s gateway to the west. Both highways proceeding westbound ended somewhere out in the desert southwest like Arizona, and New Mexico.

    • @RufusTBiscuits
      @RufusTBiscuits 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s right, you can still take 82 pretty far out west through Tx and 84 (same as what runs through Silas butler and Purdue hill) it and 82 were my favorites traveling west, minimal traffic and beautiful scenery especially Nocona Tx and Purdue hill AL

    • @m.scottreeder
      @m.scottreeder 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@RufusTBiscuits Back in October of 1995, I moved from Montgomery to Amarillo, Texas. I took U.S. Highway 82 from Montgomery all the way to the the Mississippi state line. I continued across Mississippi and into Arkansas. At the moment I was crossing that state line, I had my car radio on AM news. OJ Simpson was found not guilty that day. After I entered Arkansas on 82, I diverted in Lake Village and proceeded towards Little Rock, where I took I-40 west toward Amarillo. Years later, when I moved to Lubbock, I discovered the same Highway 82 went through that city, and eventually deadended in Alamogordo, New Mexico. I’d rather take the scenic view of the old U.S. Highways system than the interstate. I knew that highway went through Paris, Texas as well.
