I just lost all of my jewellery, coats, shoes, bags & majority of my clothes in a devastating flood that hit my town on the East Coast of Australia. I have been following your tips for such a long time now. I finally was in a place where I was happy with my wardrobe & little tweaks were all that was needed. I am still in shock to be starting all over again. I have been wearing other people’s donated clothes for two weeks now. It is a humbling experience.

Best wishes as you move through this very difficult time. I lost all my shoes and some clothes in a minor flood, years of collecting and saving gone. I repeated "nobody died" to myself for months. Set aside a little money each month, shop online and thrift to replace a few pieces as you can.

Oh, that must be such a tough experience. Where do you start? Sorry to hear. Floods and natural disasters are beyond our control and such a shocker. Often, it is a “get out with your life” situation. Sending good vibes to you for your recovery from this devastating time. Insurance can pay to replace stuff but can’t replace the feelings and memories.

I know! I hate it with a passion that I can't speak like her in her tone. I'm naturally too loud and animated and as some people love it others are really turned off by it. I'm sometimes turned off by it. I wish I could be more calm and like her. To me she is a cross between Angelina Jolie and Duchess of Cambridge.

    • @Gobi512

Most of it is probably from her voice/singing training. You wouldn’t want that tone if you were in danger or trying to warn others of danger.

The reason all your videos stand out and are invariably helpful is because you are so analytical. It takes a lot of thinking and that's something many people may not have the time for, so coming to this channel, it's like, all the information is already synthesized into insights and frameworks. Thanks so much for being so analytical about style and doing the thinking on our behalves.

As Coco Chanel once said: "Simplicity is the true key to elegance", I think that is what we perceive as 'classic', and that's the style that stands the test of time (in order to avoid the 'what was I thinking??' reaction when we look at old photos 😊)

Love this video. Going through my closet, my favorite pieces are the ones that are the most simple. Then I’ll add a hat, jewlery, or wear my hair a different way. My “uniform” would be a pair of Levi’s, tucked in high neck tank or plain t, gold hoops and gold chain necklace hair naturally wavy :) (stay at home, homeschool mama of 6) simple and easy but timeless is my jam.

    • @christinat8248
      @christinat8248 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This is basically me, as well! But make it a well fitted modern denim skirt! Simple shirtdress are also so classic and a part of my uniform. I’m also a homeschool mom of 8. Simple but pulled together is best with so many other things and people to look after.

What helps me the most now is to look at old photos of my family. What my grandma, grandad, uncles etc wore and the simpler the better in my opinion. What does not help me is Pinterest as there are too many trendy outfits that in real life are not practical/comfortable plus they make me more consumerist instead of mindful.
We should all keep in mind that we all have unique features so we do not have to do much to have a personal style and that it is good to adjust our clothes to our lifestyle rather than other way around.

  • @auravee3268

I like the idea to infuse a little of the past to the present. I choose burgundy or a chocolate brown lipstick when I wear minimal eye make up. It brings a little bit of the 90’s vibe.

Audrey, those first photos of Broke Shields were the perfect example for what you wanted to convey. She is wearing the exact same type, and color, outfit, yet the hair and makeup make the decade immediately identifiable. (And wow, what a beautiful, classy woman she's been through the years! I'm old enough to remember people's outrage when she acted in Pretty Baby and Blue Lagoon and made those suggestive---for the times--Calvin Klein Jeans commercials.)

    • @BubblyViolin11

Makes me sad that everyone was mad at her when she was merely a teenager at the time. I can’t imagine how jarring it must have been to be sexualized at such a young age. Hollywood still has a long way to go, but I’m glad more protections have been put into place to keep kids safer.

Hair is a good point! I am looking at transitioning to grey. I have grown my hair out during Covid, but am looking at returning to a more “Jamie Lee Curtis” cut. My hairdresser has helped me go a lighter shade which lets the roots blend in, so when I do take the plunge and go short again. It won’t be a big issue with the colour. However, this is my last kick at the can with long hair, so the decision is a step by step one!

Great video! As I've developed my personal style, I've learned that I'm really drawn to outfits that use classic pieces as a foundation with some kind of modern or edgy twist (e.g. cool boots, chunky hoop earrings, a statement coat). People often think of classic pieces as boring, but there's so much you can do with it.

I have so many clothes that are over twenty years old; specifically, button down plain or stripped blouses and I wear them all time with skirts or pants. Sometimes, I wear a pullover sweater, sometimes a cardigan, sometimes I wear a scarf and it keeps it fresh and it appears that I have more clothes than I do. What really keeps it from looking fresh is the shoes. Boots, pumps, loafers, flats, heels-- I wear all of them depending on the weather and my mood.

Wear something that reminds obviously the sixties or the seventies for example doesn't mean you look outdated, but you have a faible for this style and you can look fantastic in this. And you look like you have a good style (if you look good in this). Ti me what makes you look outdated is to wear something that was an obvious big trend a few years ago. For this reason, I never buy trendy pieces. But also because I have my own style and I sm proud of it. It may be sometimes also something that reminds the 60ies ;)
