99% of tourists will miss these awesome experience:
      1) Order a meal at Zi Char Stall. These are great for groups to try different freshly made dishes to go with rice. Typically found in coffeeshops in the neighborhoods, and hawker stalls, usually eaten as dinner.
Popular dishes are - KangKong (vegetable) with sambal sauce. Not too spicy.
      - Cereal Prawns are recently invented dish but usually a hit with someone trying home like dishes for the first time. It is crunchy fried prawns.
      - Sweet and Sour Pork. Another variety is "Pai Koot Wong". A must for kids! They willll love it!
      - Salted Vegetables Soup. We Asians love a good bowl of hot soup for dinner. Hot meals!!
      2) If you are worried about ordering dishes with such a set up, another option would be Economic Rice Stalls. These are the stalls that you see plate loads of different dishes laid out. You simply browse, and point to the "uncle" (we address any servers who are older than as uncle or aunties, if younger, it's just hello! Lol) which ones you fancy. We typically take about 2 meat dishes with one veg, or whichever way your stomach demands. These are served as individual serving, vs the zi char cooking which is communal, family sharing.
      3) Since you have had experience with Malay food in Malaysia, then try the Peranakan (Nonya) Food here. It is a heritage fusion of Malay and Chinese food. Nonya Laksa is a good way to start. Janggut Laksa in Roxy Square in Katong is good. Forget about what many tourist guide that points you to 328 laksa, inauthentic . Hahahaha. Also Nonya chicken curry, totally different from Indian curry. Eaten with French loaf!
      4) If we see a foreigner, especially westerners eating the following, you have our utter respects haha:
      - Bak Chor Mee, and knowing to add a dash of vinegar in the noodle if you ordered the dry version.
      - Prawn Noodle. And making your way through the prawn shells, knowing to add a dash of dry chilli powder into the noodle or the soup.
      - Any Soups from stalls that sells variety of soups. These are often nourishing soups, earten for specific supplementary needs. From collagen support to aiding energy. Eaten with a plain bowl of rice.
      - Sup Tulang!! Beef bone marrow! This is the ultimate, you get your hands all red handling the large bones, knocking and sucking out, witj a straw sometimes, the marrow!!!
      5) Assam Curry Fish Head . Truly a fusion of local heritage. Invented by an Indian and wanting to attract chinese customers many decades ago. You can ask for just the vegetables, skipping the fish head😂

if you do go back for Kaya Toast, make sure you remember the pepper and soya sauce - there will also be small spoons which you can help yourself to - that is what you use to eat the eggs with! Some people like to eat the eggs separately from the toast, some like to dip them. There's no right or wrong. If you go back to Malaysia (especially Penang), some breakfast coffee shops will also serve toast and half boiled eggs. The toast usually will be butter and sugar in most places. The Singaporean version is more elevated - both slightly different. Neither better than the other - no food fights here, the fight is ongoing on another thread!

Singapore 🇸🇬 is not your typical South East Asia city that you have visited i.e. Thailand🇹🇭, Philippines 🇵🇭, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Myanmar 🇲🇲 or even Brunei 🇧🇳. A combination of Modern Architecture surrounded by old British 🇬🇧 colonial buildings with lush foliage on the skyscrapers. Very westernized and contemporary yet still preserve the old rustic looks of old village settings. The price of accommodation and food tends to be on the pricey side if you dine on a mostly touristy flank. Go to hawker centers for cheaper options in Singapore 🇸🇬. There is plenty of it here and to approximate is beyond comparison. Hope you relish the adventure of staying here in Singapore 🇸🇬.

@@waysoftheworld_ This is a dish where deep fried popiah is one of them. So that uncle was not wrong. But what you are looking for is not this type. The correct one is not fried. You will see the hawker take a white circular thin wrap and put some vege, eggs, etc and then wrap them up, like the wraps.

No. In fact many food in both S'pore and Msia originated in China and neighbouring countries. I am sure S'pore chinese are able to create new dishes too. Did Msia create Singapore Sling too ?As for the 'carrot cake", the S'pore version is made of raddish and rice flour (Msian version was made of rice flour only ,and was called "角粿‘ ,not sure if they hv diff version now)and has the white version that Msia didn't hv in the past.

@@choyjoonkit Let's be honest, when tourists and foreigners praised the food in Singapore, Malaysians like you are often triggered and turned salty. Singaporeans on the other hand are often magnanimous to say Malaysia have nice food too. If based on what you said that authentic food in SG is from Malaysia, how can the food taste bad, you are contradicting yourself!
