You felt the same way ❤️ Mabul is such a special place. It's nice to see that they're doing beach clean-ups but if there's no education or real trash collection, it doesn't do much for long... and yes, also the trash from other countries is a real issue, and it sucks that Mabul pays for that :( We hope things improve and hope to be back and do more 🙏🏼

Honestly this is a problem that the world is responsible for .. yes locals and yes neighbour's as well. Not sure if it's still current practice but allot of the soft plastics from western countries that are said to be recycled were actually being sent to places like Malaysia to dispose of somehow. Often times luxuries come with a price to someone or somewhere else . Beautyful and sad guys but i hope for the future that it will be better than it is now ! Very cool video ,can't wait for the next one👍💪Love u guys ,all the best from me ❤️❤️❤️
The next island for both of you to go is Sipadan Island. Once you've experienced Sipadan, both of you will definitely forget what you saw at Mabul. As for the Sea Gypsy people you mentioned, they're called "Pela'u" (Pe laa uuh) meaning the Sea people in Bajau Semporna language. The Pela'u is the real native Bajau in Semporna and surrounding areas instead of being labelled as stateless people.
Our goal is to get our advanced diving certification next year so we can dive in Sipadan :) And actually we would love to go back to Mabul too. Hopefully we can spend more time there and help a little bit... Thanks so much for sharing this info!
I did a day trip to Mabul while staying in Semporna Town and is very beautiful but yes the government need to do something regarding the trash issues especially in Borneo - it is sad to see. But Borneo Malaysia is certainly worth the trip
So many amazing places to see in Malaysia, seriously! We thought 30 days would be enough, but no, not even a year is enough 😂 So, we will be back obviously because we fell in love and we need to see more of this country! ❤️ Thanks for sending us recs!
Good job guys. Thanks for showing the other side of travel and how some big corporations sometimes go into beautiful places and can add to the damage to the area. Obviously in this example the resort is trying to do something, so hopefully the garbage situation gets a resolution for the sake of the people that live there. - Your wildest dream is my wildest dream! 💯
We share the same dream ❤️ Hopefully it will be possible soon 🙏🏼 And I think we used the word 'resort' because that's how the hotel labeled itself, but honestly it wasn't like a big corporation. It's just a small 'resort' - but yes, it was refreshing to know that they're trying to do their part. We can't wait to be back and do ours 🙏🏼
Thank you for this video. Yes, unfortunately, trash is a huge problem on these islands. There's just no awareness, especially among the Bajau Laut (some Malaysians are like that too, be it in the east or west of Malaysia), & that's really sad. Some kind of incentives need to be put in place to encourage them to not throw their trash in the ocean. A once-in-a-while cleanup won't do any good if trash is back in the ocean again the next day. Added to the Bajau Laut people being stateless, it's a politically touchy subject. Thank you to the resort managers that are working together to resolve this problem. Did you guys go to Bohey Dulang?
Yes, it's for sure a very complicated issue. Some education and trash collection would do miracles here! Thanks for explaining a little bit more about this issue, we appreciate it :) - and no, we didn't go to Bohey Dulang. What is it? Another island? Maybe next time, because we do want to go back ❤️
@@waysoftheworld_ Yes, Bohey Dulang is another island in the vicinity. You hike up to the top & be rewarded with the most amazing vista! Do come back. Hopefully, you'll see an improvement in the trash problem (at Mabul and the surrounding islands).
The trash issue is very saddening. I remember in 2021 the state government already took some actions to clean up the trash but too bad… the local people don’t really learn anything. The government seriously need to spend extra money on the people on the island to educate them. Illegal immigrations is a very sensitive subject in Sabah, most politicians use it to get votes but never really take any actions to address the issue.
Hi, I am currently planning my trip to Malaysia and the content you are making is so helpful! Thanks a lot! When I looked at the travel advice of the Dutch government, they say not to visit islands like Mabul, Sipadan, Mataking, etc, because of the chances of kidnapping and piracy. Did you feel safe while travelling there or did you hear any stories about this? Thank you in advance!
Hi! Another Dutchie 💞 G is Dutch too! Anyways, lol yes. That's fairly common to hear. To be honest, and I'm just quoting what people told us... the kidnappers are a thing of the past and they were just targeting Chinese tourists 🙈 why? I have no idea. This is what people told us. That being said, we never felt at risk or unsafe AT ALL. Just keep in mind that Semporna (the town where you take the boat to Mabul) has some strange vibes, so spend as little time there as possible... we stayed at Summer Holiday Semporna and it was clean and comfortable for one night. We're happy to explain more if you have questions, just message us on IG ;)
Hiya, I’m also planning a trip to Borneo at the moment. I’ve found it to be a bit more challenging than other places to plan for as there isn’t quite so much information online about it as some other destinations. If you’d be interested, maybe we could email or chat and trade notes?
Oh no - we'll fix it asap! thanks for letting us know. here is where we stayed: fave.co/3AIFQ8E that's an affiliate link to Booking, so if you book we get a small commission, but of course feel free to book however you prefer. Guys! This is so generous of you ❤️ We have no words... THANK YOU SO MUCH 🥹❤️ You brought a big smile to both of our faces... funny story: we're at the Rome airport right now and had to pay 15 EUR p/p to check in for our flight on one of those budget airlines and were like, well this sucks... and just sat down to reply to comments and we see this... THANK YOU, really ❤️

Darn it. I have been wanting to take my Son to Mabul, diving, once he is old enough. After seeing thr terrible clarity of the water compared to 20 years ago, plus the huge pollution problem, we will try somewhere less spoiled. What a mess. How much would it cost to pay a small team to keep the place clean of rubbish? Bring a barge in once a month and take it away. Too easy.
Thank you guys for visiting Malaysia. 👍✌️😇. Please do come again and explore the other places and food here. Btw about the rubbish, I dont know what is the problem there... It could be financial issues or social/political or poor education not reaching out there. The government are trying their best to monitor the problems... But there are so many places in Malaysia need to be rehabilitate or improve but need to spend more money on that. Im sure after Malaysia improve our economy level, the problem will be solve. I really hope so. As Malaysian im quite embarrassed about it. Our apologize to you guys. Hope it doesn't stop you guys from coming here again. 🙏🙏🙏
The people living in these water villages are not locals, but illegal immigrants. That’s why they are living above the sea and not on land (because they have no legal identification, no jobs, don’t pay taxes etc). Their home countries (Philippines and Indonesia), have always rejected them since ages ago. So what more can the Malaysian govt do? Since their population is increasing every year. Now Sabah has become the state with the highest number of illegal immigrants (more than 1 million people).
One thing I must say about the trash problem..as I can see in other videos about this problem is that the trash doesn't necessarily come from the people of mabul..it can be a problem of trash "imported" from other countries ie trash floated there from elsewhere..it even happens to uninhabited island as seen in other documentaries regarding this matter and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt the islander there purposely doesn't care about the island they are living in..by the way..I don't see any mentioning of the "thrash imported from other countries"..may be u can set the record straight on this matter..see ya
It's def a mix. Education for the people on the island is absolutely necessary. We saw a lot of people dumping everything on the floor, there's no trash collection... it's a mix.
@@arshatarifin7442 Why are you blaming this on other countries? Mabul Island is located quite far from the Philippines and Indonesia. The trash obviously come from the local communities. Maybe it’s time for us to really address the issue instead of deflecting and blaming it on everyone but ourselves. You can’t solve a problem without looking at the root of the problem.
Yes, that's what we learned. And we understand of course. This is a complicated issue, but we hope someone comes up with a solution because Mabul deserves it. It's such a beautiful place ❤️
Fun facts about the sea gypsy people that they're get dizzy when walk on land. They're also very scare when go on land during night time because they bury the death on land, maybe because of that there might be ghost. And they're scare of cats, yes... Cats!! Because cats and big cats (tiger, lion, cheetah) come from the feline family. They think that all cats are dangerous, wild and eat human...
@@waysoftheworld_ glad you like it. I just shared if I'm positively sure it's legit. I don't do that often. Depends on my mood and if I enjoyed the videos/vlogs..
Hello - yea Mabul is totally safe, even for solo female travelers. it's a red zone because there were pirates there in the past, but it's really a non-issue anymore and just one of those unnecessary warnings governments put in place. Semporna (the gateway city for Mabul) isn't the most pleasant, but I think it is safe. Just don't plan to spend too much time there 😎
you can join the beach cleanups with Scuba Junkies... unfortunately it would be a never ending effort to continue to keep it clean. But everything helps :)
I am sadden that the section with dive resorts is the worst crap on water. All this can be solved with incinerators. I do not think malaysia is so poor we cannot build incinerators, it is because illegals never pay tax. Therefore no service.
Yes, exactly. It's a complicated issue. We think having some kind of trash collection along with education, would help to alleviate the problem. We hope we can do more next year!
@Ways of the World if I am a rich man, I will do something regardless of the illegal status because bloody tourism is affected and livelihood of dive companies too.
Yes, that's part of the problem too. It's not easy when there's no trash collection, but again it's a multilayered and complicated issue. We hope we get to come back next year and do something about it for sure... 🙏🏼
We can't wait to go back to Mabul and do more! Stay tuned for our next visit ❤

Hi! What was the exact accommodation you had? The link you added unter the video doesn't work :(
Oh no - we'll fix it asap! thanks for letting us know. here is where we stayed: fave.co/3AIFQ8E that's an affiliate link to Booking, so if you book we get a small commission, but of course feel free to book however you prefer. The accommodation is called Spheredivers 🤿 if you have a more flexible budget - check out Scuba Junkie :)
Wow very nice ❤
A stunning place for sure! 😍
Thanks!
@@waysoftheworld_ We"re glad it was a big help to you guys . We love you guys and enjoy watching your videos . We feel like we know you guys stay safe and enjoy yourselves .
Maybe we'll meet in person one day. This means the world to us! Thank you ❤️
@@waysoftheworld_ Absolutely we love traveling as well but our jobs still limit us . The longest we traveled was last year , two weeks in Italy it was the best . Many blessings stay safe and enjoy yourselves .
Too easy.
you should go to mantanani Island Sabah.
you guys are awesome
We saw a lot of people dumping everything on the floor, there's no trash collection... it's a mix.
@@waysoftheworld_ nonetheless..u should've mentioned it in this video so people wouldn't get a wrong idea.
Illegal immigrants . Government should take this matter seriously.
The local gov never understand. To save turtles, you must save the environment first !!
Exactly 🙌🏻
To address the problem of waste generated by the locals, the Sabah government must take serious actions.
We hope to see this happen!
Wow nice business.
Nice mabul
there one of my travel list to go 🥹
You will love it... especially if you are a scuba diver 🤿
Yeah, sad to see and to admit, they need to change, yeah, the situation is always delicate due to the illegal immigrant
Yes, that's what we learned. And we understand of course. This is a complicated issue, but we hope someone comes up with a solution because Mabul deserves it. It's such a beautiful place ❤️
I guess that is a bad sign, not only to tourism but to marine lifes..very poor management of local government sad to see it.
Yes, it was very sad. Hopefully they'll improve the situation there, otherwise that place won't last much longer :(
Fun facts about the sea gypsy people that they're get dizzy when walk on land. They're also very scare when go on land during night time because they bury the death on land, maybe because of that there might be ghost. And they're scare of cats, yes... Cats!! Because cats and big cats (tiger, lion, cheetah) come from the feline family. They think that all cats are dangerous, wild and eat human...
Love these fun facts! Thanks so much for sharing 😊
@@waysoftheworld_ glad you like it. I just shared if I'm positively sure it's legit. I don't do that often. Depends on my mood and if I enjoyed the videos/vlogs..
thank you! :)
Is it safe there for solo female traveller i read that is a red zone and too risky is it true ?
Hello - yea Mabul is totally safe, even for solo female travelers. it's a red zone because there were pirates there in the past, but it's really a non-issue anymore and just one of those unnecessary warnings governments put in place. Semporna (the gateway city for Mabul) isn't the most pleasant, but I think it is safe. Just don't plan to spend too much time there 😎
if they wont clean up the rubbish and plastic i gonna go there took and clean up myself
you can join the beach cleanups with Scuba Junkies... unfortunately it would be a never ending effort to continue to keep it clean. But everything helps :)
Reason there are many stateless people from other island like phillipine
Part of the reason... there's also no trash collection...
Kenapa tunggu kerajaan untuk pick up thrash. Kampung berdekatan perlu bertanggungjawab juga 👍
How many times wwf needs to pay villages to do this. So they think they will be paid again?
I might give it a miss, I don't want to see the rubbish 😢
I am sadden that the section with dive resorts is the worst crap on water. All this can be solved with incinerators. I do not think malaysia is so poor we cannot build incinerators, it is because illegals never pay tax. Therefore no service.
Yes, exactly. It's a complicated issue. We think having some kind of trash collection along with education, would help to alleviate the problem. We hope we can do more next year!
@Ways of the World if I am a rich man, I will do something regardless of the illegal status because bloody tourism is affected and livelihood of dive companies too.
Aiyaa kotor sudah balik, last balik 2021 bersih lagi tiada sampah 🥲🥲
If I were you, I will help to educate the local community to collect the rubbish and to see what to do with it instead 🤬
Yes, that's part of the problem too. It's not easy when there's no trash collection, but again it's a multilayered and complicated issue. We hope we get to come back next year and do something about it for sure... 🙏🏼
On behalf of Malaysian, we thank both of you in advance 🙏
