    The people who discredit ADHD just because "everyone has trouble focusing sometimes" are ridiculous. That's like saying chronic diarrhea isn't real because everyone poops.

    I was severely traumatized years ago as a teenage, got diagnosed with ADHD. Spent my whole life fighting ADHD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

      I'm so very happy for you, Psilocybin is absolutely amazing, the way it shows you things, the way it teaches you things. I can not believe our world and our people shows less interest about it's helpfulness to humanity. It's love. The mushrooms heals people by showing the truth, it would be so beneficial for so many people, especially politicians and the rich who have lost their way and every other persons out there.

      Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them

      YES very sure of Pedroshrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, BPD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.

      Mushrooms are very medicinal. This is why anybody familiar with psilocybin and any other kind of fungi will tell you, "They are alive." They have a very ancient wisdom. To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. How you think, how you feel, and what will you do with the information that you always knew, but now are seeing in this point of view." This is why mushrooms are so respected in tribal cultures. This mental health treatment works for me too. Half micro doses do the trick for me. At least a few days at a time with lengthy time in between. Never addictive. Thank you for sharing this point!

    What makes ADHD hard as an adult is if you appear articulate, creative, intelligent, talented, interesting - then people have high expectations of you. But in reality you can't even manage to fold your laundry, keep the sink clear of dishes, and file your paperwork on a regular basis
    I was like that woman, always late. My husband is almost obsessive about being on time so him being like that has helped me.
    I hate how I know I have someone coming over and I wait until the last minute to clean up. Classic me. The guest arrives and the plugged up vacuum is in the middle of the floor and I haven't even finished vacuuming.
    I think the most depressing part of adult ADHD is feeling that you're never quite where you should be in life. Meanwhile, you watch people less talented, less creative, less innovative, maybe even less scrupulous get ahead simply because they don't have ADHD.

      I have always and I mean always felt completely horrible about my self when I can't manage to keep my house clean. It's like I have all these wonderful and creative ideas, but I don't know how to execute them with out having to put aside something else that is important. This is why my house is almost never clean. I start to clean, then I have a brilliant idea that I want to do research on, I tell myself I will go back to cleaning in an hour and then get sucked into my idea and then realize hours later that I forgot about the dishes or laundry. It is really tough. Your post describes how I feel so perfectly.

    I will tell you what its like
    -you cant focus
    -all your medications have bad side effects
    -you forget a lot of things
    -you get distracted easily
    -you day dream to much
    -you can read 5 pages of a text book and then forget what you just read
    -you get to hyper
    -you cant sit still
    -you can focus as hard as you want but still forget what you just heard
    I'm livin the life!!

      You forgot to add (no pun intended) awkward in social situations, hyper focus, creative and emotionally confused (because you have trouble. Identifying much less explaining your emotions). Or maybe that's just me.

    you know you have ADD when you're watching an ADD youtube and you realize that you alwaysget distracted and start reading comments or start looking at what you're gonna watch next... and people usually just watch the whole thing

      IKR when me and my brother are watching youtube videos he always play the video and looks at the game pad( on the wii u) and starts loooking at the comments while the video is being shown on the screen. But im doing that right now. Also i do the same thing when i have the gamepad instead. Or I click a video then see a new video and click it without watching a WHOLE minute of the video im already on.

    "I think the hardest part about having ADHD is I feel I've missed out on certain things." It's true. I feel like I've missed out on good grades, on graduating and obtaining a degree years earlier, on missing income out in the workforce due to not graduating earlier, missed out on creating relationships and friendships due to not being social, etc. And I've actually burned bridges with good people over my ADHD personality. But the tough part is not reaching your full potential.

      Two years ago... Where do you stand now?
      To share a bit of myself: on elementary school I hadn't a social life. On high school it changed. At age of 25 I almost had all my grades 8/10 or higher. Now I am figuring out how to control my emotions betters for my girlfriend.. I belief that ADHD is a neurological disorder, but that doesn't mean your life can't change. Hope for a reaction :)

    Im more like the lady. My boss could be giving simple tasks to do and I feel like I'm actively paying attention and retaining the information but when he walks away, I have no idea what he said. I have to ask my coworker is she was listening and it's embarrassing. I've almost lost my job multiple times because of this. ADHD/ADD is real!

      I went to the doctor and he gave me supplements to feed my brain such as omega fish oil and ginkgo giloba ive seen major improvements also ive prayed about this situation.

      +4jimmycurtis This was happening to me while in school and college..I had no idea about what teacher gave tasks, Or even announcement of holidays too..I have reached school 4-5 times on holiday because i had no attention to announcements.Similar for sports and other activities .This type of behaviour make thyself feel stupid..But now know what actually what is..I had practiced meditation and most importantly focus part..It helps lot...

      No i didn't know i had adhd until my son was diagnosed adhd and i didn't realize that those things weren't normal until he was diagnosed and i did my research everything that i thought where my quirky traits where really adhd symptoms and i had gone my entire life saying I swear I'm ADHD but I didn't mean it until now

      Yeah people over generalize, but they can have it and never notice -especially woman since it’s exhibited differently. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 30. I had a hunch for years but thought it was always in my head.

    Anyone can "super focus" when they are interested enough in something. A reason people with ADHD seem to do it better is because focusing is so rare for us, we recognize the need to take advantage of it, and we are excited as heck to actually get something done in reasonable amount of time.

      We hyperfocus because whatever it is we are focusing on is providing a surplus of dopamine. So our body craves it (due to our depleted dopamine) and super focuses on it.

      i never go to work because of this, i do have adhd. only because i don't find the need to if i did i would but it be very hard because i be on weed and don't trust myself so i always run to self medicate and feel better, this is the only way i see i like to mix aging and get out there but i feel i am so use to my lifestyle now its depressing not working i was the path to find out why i was so angry with the world now i know it was the ADHD.

    this did not explain ADHD at all. Over time stress builds because the attention deficit. once stress builds it stays there and affects your attitude, life and everyone around you. That's where it really affects life.

    I do the same chores every day, wash dishes, make my bed, do laundry. I also watch TH-cam videos while I work. I can keep up with those daily chores. The other ones overwhelm me. I’ve been married for 21 years, so my ADD doesn’t seem to mess up relationships. The problem I have is that I can’t keep a job! I don’t learn things fast enough, although I have a Master’s degree. I get bored so easily and I don’t notice details (unless it’s punctuation, spelling, and grammar!) I’m trying to start my own business so that I don’t have to deal with a boss or meeting expectations.

    when people talk to me I always look all over or start to do something else and people who don't know about my ADD can get upset. but my best friend is so understanding she has no idea how much she has helped me. I'm so lucky to have her be so understanding because it's so hard to make real deep friendships when you had ADHD/ADD

      ilya Kozlov I'm thinking its more than likely a form of ADHD that was formerly referred to as ADD but I'm still working on getting a proper diagnosis. I've talked to other people I know with ADHD over the past few weeks and some of them actually thought I had it too before I even mentioned it. They all said that there were too many things I had in common with them for it just to be ignored.

      Nicholas Wright nicholas thank you for replying first of all, second of all what is the next step, go to a doctor?!? dude i am FREAKING out right now, im a 29 year old guy, ive never been able to finish anything in my life, im unable to do basic everyday tasks, i am very disorganized, my friend always said "haha u have add" but i always took it for a joke, i used drugs, i am now sober for 6 months and its not helping, if anything when i took xanax i was MORE organized in my life, but xanax has serious drawbacks so i quit, now my brain just does not THINK, ive watched several videos on ADD now and im almost having a panic attack, i am freaking out of the fact that i never thought it would be ME, and that i realized it so late in my life, at 29, and not 19, i quit every single thing i ever did, i cant believe it... could it be? ok so whats the next step? go to a doctor?

    ADHD has always been in my life. Along with Tourette's, anxiety and mild depression. I've lost countless jobs for the same reasons "not remembering directions" or "just not getting it". my productivity has always been an issue because of distractability.
    It causes stress on my relationships with friends, family and wife. I zone out Mid-conversation and people think I don't care. They could ask me what they just said and I wouldn't know.
    ADHD is a serious mental illness and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemies.

      Especially now that I have my two toddlers, they are my biggest Motivation to want to live Life, bc most of my life I battled with Anxiety and Depression but, unfortunately it can be so hard on me I get super overwhelmed and I take a time out in the bathroom crying, and I constantly have mixed emotions I should probably go to the doctor, bc my babies and my husband have to deal with my mood swings and I hate feeling this way.. because I know that I do Love them 😔but I just don't know how to control a lot of that's going on inside of me.

    I saw this show, and I thought that was me. I have ADHD-inattentive type. I have been affected in so many ways. I'm always late, I have been fired from my employer of 9 years, I tend to neglect everyday tasks, can't keep the house clean, & I have to have a clever ways to find my keys. This condition has affected my relationship with my family members. I identified with everything in this segment. This show actually gave me the strength to seek treatment. I'm taking Concerta ER, but it only helps a little I still have symtoms and still have the annoying behaviors. I am glad that I know-what I have and there's some hope. Thanks, to Katie Couric for spotlighting this condition. Right now, I'm dealing with a college that kicked me out for revealing that I have it and I'm having difficulty turning in assignments on-time. They allowed me 2 extra days to turn in assignments, but even then, I continued to turn in assignments late. I think it's just that I can't process the concept of time- who knows. Then, there's the fact that I was terminated from my job of almost 9 years after revealing that I was being late because of the ADHD. Everything that I'd worked hard for slipped right out of my hands. I've always felt as though I could have and still could accomplish so much more. Let me say this one last thing, I tend to write better than I speak. Sometimes, I'm at a loss for the right word to say or "loose my thoughts/words"; therefore, verbal communication is not as effective and even, at times, do not convey the thoughts that I want to express. Thank you, TH-cam, for allowing me to find this show-again & comment on it, because it has really had a great impact on my life.--Struggling in Houston

    I can relate to the "not listening" part. My wife has to deal with it a lot. She'll say, "you don't listen to me." I explained to her that I try, but sometimes when she's talking I'm listening, but I'm not hearing her. I have so many thoughts, and when I latch onto a thought I can't let it go. When I get focused on something nothing can shake me out. I get tired of myself, so I know others do.

    I'm 23M, I have ADD and severe GAD. This video (especially towards the end) made me burst into tears. I am struggling so bad with mental health and hearing him say ADD can be a blessing and that Ferrari analogy made me feel so much better. If anyone has ADHD, I have some pointers for you. DO NOT look up statistics on outlook for people with ADHD. It's easy to find yourself in a rabbit hole and get lost feeling hopeless. Also, believe in yourself.

    This is me, I've discovered my symptoms while doing my Doctorate. There is no where to hide at that level. I just couldn't understand why i couldn't just get stuff done like everyone else, even through I'd worked so hard to get there. i experienced burnout at the end of first year, I completely shut down and was depressed, I fell behind on my course. I've finished my training now and I'm working on my thesis, it's such a struggle. Throughout my life I always felt different, lazy and a failure! Im awaiting an assessment in January. Im training to be a clinical psychologist and it took me until I'm 44 to realise im not a failure or lazy, I'm pretty sure I have adhd.

    how ADHD is like....
    1. You daydream a lot.
    2. You talk to yourself or think to yourself often.
    3. You can be emotional.
    4.You can get obsessed/addicted with things quickly if it's a tv show, anime, or a video game.
    5. Sometimes you talk back to your parents.
    6.You take pills everyday.
    7.You can get sad or mad quickly or annoyed sometimes.
    8. Hard to pay attention in class.
    9. When you read a book it probably takes about a month or 2 to finish the book (chapter book, depends how many pages there are in the book.)
    10. You forget what happens in the book and remember parts of the story (maybe) and not all when you're done with the book.
    11. It's really hard to do homework. Sometimes you slack.
    12. Sometimes you get bad grades at school.
    13. Fail a test sometimes or probably all the time.
    14. When you know the answer at school and a teacher calls on someone else and they get it wrong and then the teacher calls another person but it isn't you and they get it right you're probably thinking, 'Oh I knew that was the answer.' or probably say it out loud.
    15. Sometimes at school you think that's the answer but you don't raise your hand because you think it's wrong but when a kid says the right answer that you have, you're probably thinking, 'I should of raised my hand.' or probably say "I knew that was the answer but I thought I was wrong."
    16. You daydream in class a lot and don't pay attention.
    17. You have some skills for example, sports or singing or whatever hobby you're good at.
    18. You are sometimes annoying at school.
    19. You can be loud sometimes.
    20. May get in trouble sometimes.
    21. Stay up late sometimes or always.
    22. You don't like to wake up for school in the morning sometimes.
    23. You don't want to go to school sometimes.
    24. Maybe you have been bullied.
    25. When you're really good at something and someone challenges you, you have confidents in yourself for example, if you were really fast at running you will have a lot of confidents in yourself and won't worry.
    26. Sometimes it is hard to get friends at school.
    27. You practice at things you want to be good at.
    28. It's hard for you to practice sometimes
    29. Sometimes you feel like dying.
    30. Sometimes you can dress weird to school.
    31. You don't want to do things and is lazy sometimes.
    32. Sometimes you want to do your own thing.
    That is what ADHD is......

    I was 14 when I typed this, and completely forgot about this. I am 18 now but I’m a lot better.
    This doesn’t apply to all ADHD people, more like this related to me a lot when I was 14. I don’t mean to offend anyone or make people insecure with the words I used. Again I’m a lot better now, and I guess I was very upset when I seen this video, when people who do not have ADHD talked about it as if they knew what it was like. (I probably didn’t even watch the whole video) If you need help, talk to someone about it. Seek some therapy lessons maybe? Or tell someone who you are very close with about your problems. I still have ADHD to this day, but I got a lot better with recognizing it and loving myself a lot more :) I hope the people that commented below me are feeling a lot better now.     The only thing I WANT to be late for is my funeral. That, I want to skip entirely.

    I actually think ADHD is a natural state of being and not a disorder. But unfortunately, for us sufferers, the world we live in requires us to be focused and to be able to concentrate if we want to be able to progress and have a more fulfilling life.
    I have discovered that ADHD sufferers need to work twice as hard to be able to function effectively in this world. Get rid of your social media, stop drinking alcohol and stop eating processed junk!! Swap this with reading more, meditating everyday, eating a clean healthy diet and with regular intense exercise sessions we can have much better focus and concentration. It isn't easy unfortunately, but better focus is achievable with medication.

      I agree with you,I had a new doctor a few years ago and she cut down on my anxiety medication down to when I needed as an emergency,thanks to her today I can sleep much better,Sometimes people do bring their problems onto other people what causes this so-called ADHD.

      Good. You have your experiences, I have mine. I speak out of mine. Maybe there's more to it, maybe not. All I know is it gets in my way and always leaves a bloody scare. Got no friends. Just lost a very high paying job and have mouths to feed. Have poor social skills, a turn off for my colleagues. Fought hard though. 3 years I worked there... then I broke. It became too much to weight. Had to put in loads more time & effort to complete tasks than others. It doesn't really matter what you or anybody thinks, won't solve my problem.

    The biggest part of ADHD I dislike, is the rejection I suffer when my bad behaviour which results in pushing loved ones and friends away, frustrated after the event, being genuinely sorry.. Rejection is probably the biggest heartbreak for an adhd sufferer, I'm now 41 only being diagnosed a few years ago, I am trying to improve my behaviour, losing the love of my life was the biggest wake up call for me.....

    I'm an ADD "sufferer" (not). I became aware of my disorder in 1996 and had to go through a severe depression before I came to grips with it. At first I was really overwhelmed with the thought that I had a "disorder". To me, the realization that I have this problem was the beginning of a new appreciation of myself. I rarely even think about it now. When you learn about your strengths and weaknesses and learn to accept them and work with and around them it's actually kind of liberating. You can learn to work in coordination with your differences. Realizing what your problems are is most of the battle, It's NOT a death sentence. I tried the medications, but found that they had more negative side-effects than positives. I now live life to it's fullest and have a lot of fun without medication. It's only a disability if you let it be one.
    I think that a lot of being successful with ADD has to do with learning to discipline and structure yourself. You need to learn good habits, like always keeping your keys, glasses, etc. in the the same place. Without even really thinking about it, I know when I'm liable to drift off in my attention, so I put extra effort in staying attentive in those times (yes, I still do it anyway sometimes). I think that I have learned to automatically know when I'm liable to have a problem and without even thinking about it, I head the problem off before it happens. I've learned to monitor my time and leave early for work, etc. so that I'm not late. I think that I do have more anxiety about these things than I used to, but it's better than being late or losing things. If you can train yourself to do these things habitually you can prevent a lot of problems.

    as someone who grew up with ADHD from a very very early age, I can tell you that the effects were deep, profound and very severe, going through a school system that was not designed for me, with peers that didnt understand me it led to a very low self esteem and self worth at a very young age, as a teen that developed into depression, anxiety, social anxiety, and that nearly cost me my life, as an adult, the effects were long lasting, i was not able to achieve the careers i had dreamed of as a young boy, The Navy and Police force were unattainable. holding a job was extremely difficult. living with ADHD is so unbelievably hard, and painful.
    fortunately I was able to rise above it, through courage and determination, i took upon myself the ideal of the courage of a lion (hence my username) i was able to build myself up, i now have a good career working with animals and I am a manager too.
    i'm hoping to write a book on my experiences, too try and help others see that beyond ADHD there is hope, but that will be a mammoth task because I'm sure ADHD will try to stop me, but i will try my hardest

    The worst part for me is when people I'm close to know I have ADD-non hyperactive but don't accept it (like they still think I'm weird and want me to act 'normal'. That and when hyper focus turns into distraction (example you get focused on doing something important you forget about your other tasks).

      Even if there is little known about ADD/HD it is real and I have not been lied to. You are just plain ignorant. ADHD/ADD has now been shortened to just ADD. You are either ADD-non hyperactive or ADD hyperactive (ADHD). Whether or not they are the same thing is irrelevant, the fact that this not well known disorder can have the potential to be active in every aspect of a person's life is.

    As many people have certainly said, the term ADHD is just what the established medical community currently uses to describe the many various patterns of symptoms of this neurological condition. I was diagnosed with non-hyperactive ADHD, but it's still ADHD by name. Don't ask me, that's what four doctors have now told me. The new research is showing that within ADHD there are several different sub-categories, with different symptoms.
    Please, everyone, get educated about this, as it is very real, and for those of us with it, it can be an amazing blessing or the most insidious of curses. Public awareness and attitude about ADHD is horrible; just look at the videos about ADD (the standard, laughed about, non-medical term). People assume that we use it as a blanket excuse to be disorganized or lazy. That's like saying deaf people don't listen because they don't care about what you're saying. They don't listen because they can't. We struggle with the structures of the society created by the 90% of you who are not like us not because of some moral fault, or laziness, or stupidity. We struggle with your structures the same way deaf people struggle with music... we don't operate like that. If you question our value as people or what we can offer, please read this:

    I'm very happy with the Drs analogy of it in this video. I've always felt like I had more thoughts then others, thoughts that were deep and intuitive and others never thought to look in that direction but it's so hard to control. It's like why do I put all this effort into thinking about something that normal people don't even try to think about. It feels very defeating when you always think about something affects everyone else and they don't ever consider how what they do might affect you.

    Those that claim that ADHD doesn't exist always have baseless arguments and can't cite any real references to validate their claim. All they do is make assumptions that are not based on fact. Saying that ADHD is an excuse to be lazy and not finish anything is just like saying that depression is an excuse for sympathy and to garner attention. That kind of logic (if you want to call it that) is weak, at best.

      100% agree. I was diagnosed with ADD since 1996. Now my daughter, who is 9, started showing signs over the past year. They were identical to what I went through. She got started on a low dose med and has done a complete turnaround!

      Taylor Ervin Yep, it's a hard concept for normal people to grasp sometimes. I stopped trying to defend my opinion to others cause ,well its pointless most of the time ! My daughter is on that, its doing well for her. I've been on Adderal for almost 20 years now. If I don't take it, I get the constant symptom of felling like the channel is changing on the TV every second, but with thoughts. This leads to me not being able to focus,poor judgment calls, anxiety, anger,frustration, laziness just naming a few. So ppl can argue "it's all in my head" that's fine. I will continue to take my medication and function normally without explaining to anyone why 😁

      David Krznar Hey man, I appreciate that! Without my meds, I pretty much feel useless and can't function because of the anxiety and depression issues that go along with it. My perception of time has always been skewed, which would make me late for things all the time. I would procrastinate handling important matters. As a result, I've lost several jobs, even ones that I really liked. I've lost a few friends because of this. They felt that my inability to pay attention to them speaking to me or my inability to show up on time to certain things that they invited me to, was because I didn't care about them. I've lost things that were prize possessions of mine or things that friends would let me borrow, and that reflected to them as irresponsibility. I've wrecked every car that I've owned, because I couldn't pay attention to the road, being distracted by something as small as changing the radio station. I've suffered from insomnia, because my mind won't shut off in order for me to fall asleep. My impulsiveness has gotten me in trouble with the law on a few occasions. It's been hell, but now that I've been getting help, I finally feel like I can get ahead instead of digging a deeper hole trying to climb out.

    I was diagnosed with ADHD since i was 6. Sometimes its hard but I learned to live my life with it. One thing that helps is playing video games because it allows my brain to focus on one thing because video games make you think and do multiple things at once and it really helps. Real time strategy and fighting games are probably the best types of games for someone with ADHD, at least for me it is.

BECAUSE I GET UPSET WITH EVERYONE ONE BECAUSE IM SO UNHAPPY RUNNING MAKES FEEL NORMAL UNTIL I GET CHARGED BY POLICE AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC IN THE WAS I EXERCISE I USE STREET FURNITURE I WOULD NEVER TAKE MEDICATION. OF DRAGS , JUST LOTS OF COFFEE. DAZ NOT HELP WITH ANGER WHEN I GO RUNNING AND I DON'T EAT NOTHING SOMETIMES THIS MAKES ME MORE ANGRY WHEN I DON'T EAT GETS ME IN SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH POLICE.     ADHD. Asking family and co-workers to repeat themselves immediately after trying to hear them, but loosing focus. Then, asking again, a you lost focus while they were repeating themselves. I would give anything not to feel like I'm blowing them off. On the other hand, it's almost like a superpower of mental energy at times. I can do more with less than most folks can relate to sometimes.

    i constantly lose my train of thought. i'm too slow to keep up in conversations, because I simply cannot focus on what's being said, and what I am trying to say. conseqeuently, adhd affects me most in social situations. it is also very hard to study when i am not an adderall. way too distracted, and I cannot get things done.

    I don't know where I fit in but I think I developed my own strategies. All through school I was easily distracted in class, often missing an entire lesson because my mind had drifted, fixated by someone's hairstyle, a curious beam of sunlight or the way the teacher's shoes tapped as she crossed the room. ADHD? I've no idea! However I was ambitious and became a teacher. I think I trained myself via some external process to concentrate, keep focussed and to limit my many distractions.
    Surprisingly I was successful in my career so I'm told. I found that I related really well to similar students - maybe they had ADHD. This was decades before it was recognised as a condition. My key was a cumulative repetitive approach. Explaining things in a variety of ways. Usually by a third or fourth or fifth go, a student would get the point.
    My conclusion is that unfocussed people often simply need patient repetition, consolidated by a variety of back-up strategies and supported homework.
    It worked for me. I'm 75 and have no idea if I was dealing with ADHD students but understanding, patience and cumulative repetition are the tools that helped them, I believe.

    I viewed this video because my boyfriend, I believe, has ADD. I love him dearly but it is difficult to not take his quirks personally. For instance, when we are together, I find it hard to finish a sentence before he's asking me to repeat myself. Also, he can zone out and watch TV or internet videos for hours, even if I'm there or if I call him and he doesn't answer. And then we have amazing times together, followed by times he feels the need to "focus on other things." I feel like he sees me as a distraction...my mere presence and has to always establish boundaries, such as, "I can see you on Sunday, but on Monday don't call or come over because I have tasks to do."
    Its heartbreaking but I meditate on it daily so that I don't feel like he is being an asshole to me.

    I've missed out on so much even though I'm only a junior in high school. Friendships and some relationships from not being social. Bad grades and not being able to play sports, which just happen to be my escape from school, because of it. I never stay on track.     My heart goes out to folks who struggle with ADHD. Someone very dear to me has it and I've seen how it impacts their life. They are one of the most amazing, fascinating, stimulating, mind and heart expanding people I have ever known. I learned more about myself and humanity while knowing this person for a short time than I could have, in a decade without them.

    Im grateful I looked into this. I was diagnosed when I was young but became covert due to my family making it sound normal. Now at 29, watching these vids. I tear up. Cause Ive always felt inadequate mentally. Im still pursuing certain things where as my entire class has left me behind in the study but.. hey I just needa be right once , right? Ill be okay. A lot of things ive already administered. I wish my parebts acknowldged my tryingness and never give up mentality. Most harmful thing is my mom telling me she knows me yet has never appreciated me nor my efforts. Funny enough, im doing better than her at this age . My dad, now that hes old lol, hes grateful now but goodness did they talk their ish before. I still choose to take.care of them. Cause .. a long time ago, I know I was chosen to be that son to make a difference. But the difficulty makes me cry inside. However, i just... keep.on moving fwd. One foot ahead of the other. Imnnot crying... dammit. I just wana be the best I can ever be. Gonna be a Dad. I want it know ... dont let anything or anyone stop you. Fuckem... blow this life shit out the water. No matter your flaws.

    I have it bad. I forget literally everything.. even what I said a few seconds ago. I legit have difficulty communicating because I forget mid sentence what I am even talking about.. it’s so frustrating. I just want to feel normal. Constant inner voice is louder than real life and discussions with people around me. Memory wipes every few minutes and I have to apologize because it does seem like I don’t care what’s being talked about but it’s literally because I don’t remember..

    Geez I can sympathize by getting distracted and thinking of many things. I don't have ADHD just slow thyroid. When talking to loved ones does anyone interrupt so they don't lose their train of thought or question? I often get a bit frustrated because I want to say something then I forget.

      Yes, I have always had this same problem. I was even told one time how rude I was. I was terribly hurt because I was not even aware at the time I was doing it. Now that I am aware of it it is a constant struggle not to interrupt. It is very frustrating not to be able to hold on to my thoughts until the other person finishes speaking.
      I do have adhd and only recently got officially diagnosed but it was no surprise as I expected it for a long time.

    It might sound stupid, but when the speaker explained that ADD forgetting doesn’t come from a lack of caring, it gave me so much relief that it made me choke up! Fifty years ago I forgot to pick the ride group up from preschool once. I felt devastated with shame!

      It does have good effects, your right. I heard that it can make you notice things that people without it wouldn't notice easily. Also forget that last part, I meant to put I don't like that I have it, I wasn't meaning like thoughts of suicide just that I don't like it. Hope It is mostly gone by the time im around 18 because I really want to join the airforce because my dad flew in iraqi freedom and enduring freedom.
      To me it really doesn't matter the name. Does that don't think about it trick work? If it does im gonna try it.

    There is only one term for ADHD now, which is ADHD. There are subtypes. Official names: ADHD - Inattentive Type, ADHD - Hyperactive Type.

    I was just recently diagnosed with ADHD. I am 53. My world is completely different now. Someone hit the brakes, turned off the adrenaline, calmed my ass down, let me learn of this new world I just became aware of. The borderline Tourette's is gone , ocd is fading away and all my friends notice I am easier to hang out with. If you can't count to 100 in your head without being distracted then look for more signs. It could save your life. D

    lol I've been watching this clip all day!
    Started early this morning, but paused it a few seconds in to go check a forum I frequent.
    Later I remembered I had this tab open so watched a bit more...but got bored so paused it again.
    I then had an appointment I had to get to (15 minutes late...) then went and had dinner with my parents.
    I came home and played on my computer and started this video back from the beginning cause I'm such a scatter brain and can't remember everything I'd watched already.
    It's now been paused at 02:05 for the last hour...I've got several other things I needed to do online first.
    It's taken me like 12 hours to get 2 minutes into this video! *PROGRESS!!*
    And...that's what it's like to have ADD.

    I know the struggle in ADD (not hyperactive). I go to school or church, trying to focus on the lesson, but, I always end up drowsy or bored to sleep. I didn't know ADD was so serious till I realized that no matter how hard I try to get work done, focus, study for a test, I almost always fail. My parents didn't know this,( they thought it wasn't anything) and would ask me why am I not being the kid I should be, focusing on work, asking why i can focus on something fun I like to do, yet not do work and focus in school, and I've asked that to myself, and now what I thought was just me was something worse. I hope to get a doctor to help me with this problem. I just want a bright future.

    I am almost 40. I always thought that I am irresponsible and undisciplined. And blamed myself a lot and hurt myself intentionally by overeating and suicidal thoughts. And I also made my loved ones' lives hell many times. Then, I stumbled upon a video on ADHD, and all my characteristics matched with the symptoms. I got myself diagnosed and I was confirmed to have ADHD, and after 40 years of a hellish mental existence, I now know who my enemy is. And now I am learning to fight back!

      My 6 year old was diagnosed in october, and through learning about it while dealing with her, I know I have it aswell. I have always been like that as a child and still am. My mother also has ADHD. My dad has made it clear when my daughter was diagnosed that he doesn't believe there is anything wrong with my daughter (I am 100% certain she has it, she is like the typical hyper/impulsive/inattentive boy that you usually hear about, instead of the quiet daydreaming kid that I was. I already see a psychiatrist for depression/anxiety and my family dr thinks I am bipolar so I will be bringing this up next visit. I understand people not thinking ADHD is real, unfortunately now my sister seems to be convinced it's not real too because of her naturopath friend.

      Melissa Tee Usually the symptoms are mainly internal. Once the medicine takes effect the patient tends to see a huge change in mental stability, socializing, and overall organization. In my case i was able to improve my grades from C- (which is an F in my school) to B+ or A-. Sociallizing i could easily handle a conversation. Even my energy levels are more higher than the average person get a lot more done :)

      It is genetic, but it is not true to say that one or both parents to have it in order for a child to have the condition. I believe that it is possible for it to skip a generation and there are also other conditions that scientists now believe are in a group that is linked to the same genetic difference that causes ADHD (such as autism and bipolar disorder.)

    This is making ADHD sound like some terrifying thing. It's not. Sure, it affects your life in many ways, but its not devastating to livelihood. It sucks when you forget some things, and you get distracted, but its kinda funny too. It's just a difference in the way your brain works, and that's completely cool and awesome. Also, you can think really fast. As someone with ADHD, my advice to my fellow ADHDers is to embrace it as a part of yourself and allow yourself to see the flaws and strengths that come with this "disorder." Don't let it affect your life in a negative way-- you're stronger than your ADHD. So stop playing sappy piano music and let's go look at cats on the internet together.

      +Emma Ferguson It wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for university, last test i took i had to read every question 5 to 6 times because of how distracted i get, other than studying and college, i sometimes get distracted in the middle of a boxing spar, thought its not something life threatening, its definitely something that ruins life for me, to make things better i live in a country that doesn't take psychiatry seriously, therefore i cant take drugs like Adderral or ritalin, great huh ?

      Emma Ferguson there's a spectrum for every disease... some people only forget things and simply can't concentrate, others are extremely impulsive, can't control their emotions. For some people it's just a bit hard but you're fine, for others (me) it ruins the relationships you have and gets you into so much trouble can stop you from achieving your full potential

      Thank you Emma I was thinking the same thing I love my adhd yes that does come with anxiety and depression and episodes of disconnect etc but seriously my adhd is my personality I would never take the pills again but it is a part of me me awkward weirdness that over shares over talks (maybe spends way to much money that I don’t have to be spending) but all works out yes I can get talked down on sometimes for being way to excited or forgetting stuff a lot but who cares you are you

    The professor's comment describes my conditions well; a lot of things going on in the brain! And it's true it can be controllable by training etc. and once it is, you'd excel on things with great concentration and crietivite mind. Bless all with ADD/ADHD hope we all embrace our loves.

    You feel like a failure because you need shown multiple times how to do things, people think you’re stupid because you zone out. The medications are great they work. But they also make you super irritable when they’re wearing off. You forget bills, homework, appointments. Cleaning is impossible to get started til it’s impossible to live with. And finances? Forget it, the impulsivity to buy random shit even when you don’t have the money is impossible to overcome. Shiny shiny is how my mind is. And the worst part? Is when people tell you you aren’t trying hard enough. Yet little do they know you’re trying your damndest, and when you have to work three times as hard at simple mundane tasks others can do without thinking, you get exhausted doing it day after day.

    I have it and i'm feeling extremely emotional and frustrated. My house is horrible, pig pen, a messy etc! Im so overwhelmed. I feel like I need medication just to clean my house. There's so much unorganized stuff laying around. I have a 13 year and I can't even help him clean his own room.

    I have ADHD - inattentive type, and most people don't take me seriously when I tell them I have it, because I'm not super hyper and bouncing off the walls. I just cant focus in school when I'm doing work and will have to read the same thing 5 times to remember what I just read. I'm also always the last to finish tests and even run out of time while taking them

    all 3 of my kids and a granddaughter have been diagnosed with ADHD...never once have i been tested, but i see now that im not alone.i feel that i too have ADHD! im 49 yrs old and it never occurred to me that i could have given it to my kids! ty for this information!!!!

    It's a blessing and a curse, I was able to hyper focus enough to obtain a full patent but would go off the wall at times. The best way I can describe ADHD is the noise and anyone that has it knows the noise.

    When I was a child, i was putting my life at risk, every time. Climbing things, like putting a chair on the desk, climbing on the chair and trying to get on top of the cupboard, which of course resulted in me falling down and hurting myself very badly. It was always like that. I am not as hyperactive, but I have realized that I always start things and barely finish them. I could be so much into it, and then do something else. I could switch off from watching a movie, and think about things that are so irrelevant, and when I rewatch this movie, program, I say to myself "oh, I don't remember hearing this". I am extremely impulsive, which has always been like this, so I avoid confrontations. While having this, especially as a child, I had OCD's symptoms, such as waking up many times at night, to make sure window knobs were still at the right position, i was washing my hands to the point of having them completely dry. Everything had to be symmetrical, and put in a certain position. I still have some troubles with double-checking doors. These days, I feel overwhelmed. I can come back from a nice walk, and sit down on the chair, feeling completely strange, like I don't know how to function and then, it goes back up, like nothing happened. I am seeing a psychologist, next week, to talk about that. This affects my life. My husband is tired of me, and I want to run away and leave him alone. :(

      Ask doc about Guanfacine. It lowers the heart rate and helps me sleep at night, plus it's supposed to help adhd symptoms.

      Both Vyvanse and Concerta made me lose weight so fast. Vyvanse literally made me sick and nauseous. Concerta made me lose about 20 pounds ina couple of months. I take Adderall now and it's fine. I don't even have the slightest lack of appetite. Sometimes I have a hard time sleeping but I always have a hard time sleeping meds or not. I do take a sleep med so I'm that's covered. Only med I haven't tried is Rydaln (sp?) because it's scary but in a way isn't Adderall too?

      Vyvanse made me very nauseous for about a month or 2 then ot went away. I can't even tell it's working anymore. I'm already skinny and I have to drink weight gainer shakes to keep me from being 140 lbs. The Lexapro has done wonders for me though. My whole family can tell a huge difference in my mood, mood swings, violent outbursts etc

    I have been diagnested with adhd 2 months ago in age of 39.
    I always knew i was different but I have learned how to mask it to the point I have end up depression and other mental health problems :(
    Distraction, jumping from one task to another, memory problems, lack of interest,from starving meself to binge eating, mood swings, insomnia, invesive thoughts, looping of thoughts when trying to fall asleep, impulsive shopping, changing jobs/ hobbies, lost all of my friends because I simply wasn't there for them, time management problems. List is endless :( but now at last I know why I was like that for my entire life

    The doctor was wrong about ADD. The hyperactivity is in the brain. It runs itself down way quicker than would be normal, and then, once it's tired, you can focus anymore

      ***** yes, the name suggests a disorder. and why do people believe it's a disorder? because adhd people are in a minority in our society. that's not to say, that the minority could actually be the one with the normal brain function. however, the way i like to see it is just, that adhd people tend to think differently. no judgement attached. it really shouldn't be classified as a disease.

    This ADHD is a curse! People think I know it all because when I want to know something I become obsessed ! Then when I'm in school and have a deadline I can't focus because the deadline frightens me. I don't understand why since I have been to physiatrist since 2nd grade kicked out of 2 high schools I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until recently? My brother and Amazing Artist and Mom both have this ADHD!

    I have AD(h)D to but i must say that this is a tad on the dramatical side. The negative aspects off ADHD can be hard to handle, especialy when you aren't aware that you have ADHD. But what they are not showing (besides Edward Hallowell at te end) are all the positive sides of ADHD. High creativity, high curiosity, superfocus.
    If I could change having ADHD, i would never do it.

      He didn't manage anything. Bill Gates is smart despite having ADHD. A blessing?? How in the world is a disorder that impairs ones executive system a blessing?? It's not and should never be considered that. That is how people end up in situations where they receive no help and do not know what to do. If you want insight into ADHD watch Russell Barkley. He does a great job of explaining everything you need to know.

    The toughest part is that my son does all this stuff he is passing so many milestones growing up as a toddler now. Everybody but me notices because I’m not even paying attention.
