    Growing up with Christian bale and Ben Affleck I always thought the original 1966 movie was kinda cheesy and bad, but when I finally watched it with my dad, it was actually way better than I thought it would be! Actually a pretty solid film

    I watched this movie all of the time when I was a kid, and I watched it a month ago and I still love it. It’s so dumb, and just hilarious, and it’s just something I really like ironically. Don’t love the TV show, watched a couple episodes and it’s not really for me. Crazy how quickly it was made though, great video.

  • @thefilmwatcher1216
    @thefilmwatcher1216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If I'm being totally honest, I like this movie more than the original 1989 film. I rewatched it recently, and it's so much fun. My introduction to the 60s show was when I was trying to find episodes of the animated series when I was maybe five, and while this movie is basically just an extended episode of the TV show and Batman and Robin are able to get out of situations easier than they should be able to, I love it. I prefer darker Batman, but this is just pure fun.

    To use a James Bond analogy, this is definitely the Moonraker of the Batman films. But as you said, it knows what it is and went all in for it. I grew up in the 70s watching the re-runs of the show. So yes I have fond memories of this movie.

    Even though the show aired in color, I grew up watching Batman on a black and white TV. I suspect many other folks did as well. For some of us, seeing the movie in the theater was the first time we saw Batman in color. Holy mind blown away

  • @shanekixmiller2133
    @shanekixmiller2133 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I look at this film as a made for TV movie that made its way to theaters, you know? Hence the feel of it all. It is little more than a glorified episode of the show, but a lot of ways it's a lot grander and more epic. As you mentioned, the extra vehicles and the extra production value. Also, I just think one has to consider the time that this was made in. A lot of movies were thrown together cheaply and quickly back in the sixties and '70s. It was kind of the norm in a lot of ways. I love this movie. I two grew up watching a VHS copy of this film. But it was the Saturday afternoon movie on one of the local Indianapolis stations. My mom taped it for me so I could see it for the first time. Ah, the good old days, lol. But yeah, I grew up watching this on VHS and reruns of the show on the Sci-fi channel and on TV land.

    I didnt grow up watching Batman 66, but I was very aware of it. I remember watching one episode with Vincent Price as Egghead when I was a kid, but that was about it. I bought the DVD last summer purely for completions sake as a big Batman fan, and I watched it a few weeks later. And I loved it. It was ridiculous, hilarious, the riddles were pure insanity and it knew exactly what it was. Compare that to the Schumacher movies that had no idea how to do campy right

    I grew up watching the reruns and totally thought it was serious Batman, like kids listening to radio dramas back in the day. I then discovered Batman: the animated series as a tween and adored it. Then finally as an adult I saw this film (after all the Burton and Schumacher films) and its such a gas. So much fun. I especially love Frank Gorshwin's Riddler. So manic and fun. I love how Wallace and Gromit paid homage to this film in A Matter of Loaf and Death. And I agree with another poster that campy, corny Batman is just as valid an interpretation of the character as broody and grim. Will rewatch any day.

    the adam west batman has not only nostalgia for me
    since it is a rewatchable fun show and same with this film
    i generally fall in the group where i like the campy humor of the adam west version of batman
    it has a lot of fun scenes that are enjoyable
    i especially love the bit where batman is trying to defuse a bomb and he says "somedays you just cant get rid of a bomb"
    it is Hilarious
    this film should have earned theatrical sequels that could have helped the tv series

    This movie is incredibly campy, dated, and silly. I watched reruns of TV show and this movie with my dad when I was young. I have a ton of nostalgia for this movie. It’s a large part of my love for the character of Batman. I rewatched it about a month ago and while this isn’t a good movie, it’s one I have quite a bit of fun with.

    • @_the_rizzler

    I never watched the original show until a couple years ago, and I adored it. I'd watched the film first and liked it, but after having seen the series, then it got even better. I really really like this version because it's so confident in itself. Might look cheap but the gags are so witty and sincere, the cartoonish-ness amped up to a million.
    It's the way that the camera is almost always canted around the villains, the complete difference in posture and tone in each character's performance, the non-stop humour, the complete lack of stakes in exchange for fun, the goofy soundtrack and over-the-top effects that work so well for me.

  • @areshorror
    @areshorror 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Didn't expect this review, but anyways definitely agree. The only Batman related movies or shows I've watched were the 60's Batman, so I fell in love with it. After already seeing all three seasons however, Batman: The Movie is a cheap combination of all of the villains into one quick movie that doesn't provide anything new we haven't seen from the show.

    I FREAKING LOVE this movie and the show. It holds a special place in my heart. And I even saw Batman Begins and Batman 89 before I saw this.

    I absolutely love Batman 1966, it’s not a very good film but certainly a very enjoyable one! I also grew up watching this and I remember watching the first 10 minutes of this film over and over!!!😃👍

    I disagree with your point that you have to have grown up with this Batman in order to enjoy this film; I did not grow up with this Batman at all and still had plenty fun.

    You’re gonna rank the live action Batman villains and Batman actors when The Batman comes out right?

    I love this movie so much that I attended a theatrical rerelease of it just to see it on the big screen.

    Every time it’s on, I watch it. But like you said I grew up with it. Adam West, and Burt Ward we’re sex addicts. Burt Ward even wrote a book about it “Boy Wonder: My life in Tights”

    I grew up with the dark knight and DKR and under the red hood and stuff. I still thing ‘66 Batman is fun with how campy it is. I can accept it for what it is and not expect it to be something else. I love this old stuff. I’ve watched every episode of the show too. It’s just so ridiculous that I can’t not have fun with it.

    I’m going in The Batman with very low expectations. Dc tends to over hype their movies only to fail hard when released
