- Back in 2019 I covered the first episode of the 1960s Batman TV show, and it gained kind of a cult following. More often than not, that's the video that people tell me is their favorite of mine (which is funny because I look back on my personality and body language in that video and I cringe haha). So I figured it was about time to jump back in and check out another episode! Enjoy.

The best thing about this show that no one has ever addressed is the fact that Batman has "permanently angry" eyebrows painted on his cowl.
I'd say the best thing is that Cesar Romero refused to shave for the show, so they just paint his mustache white and hope nobody notices.

It really took a turn from rigging vending machines to having two superheroes trapped in electric chairs
The beginning of the first episode is fascinating because ar the turn of the century weightlifting was considered bad for your health and fringe, it was probably around ths time that it was starting to become socially acceptable. The "normal healthy excersize" line was likely put in as a sort of PSA to normalize it for older adults
That's an interesting tidbit. I just assumed it was awkward phrasing just because the whole show is awkward. It makes me wonder how many other things we are missing, where they say something that just seems completely out of left field to us.
@@Lumina_Solaris I found another left field meaning! So “plugged lollipop” is from the phrase “plugged nickel/quarter/dime”. Apparently people would take out the valuable metal in coins and then “plug” them with cheaper metal. We don’t even have valuable metals in our coins anymore.

my dad grew up around this time and it was his favorite show 🥺 he does the “same bat time, same bat channel” thing all the time. he also says “holy (blank) batman” all the time, usually like something randomly related to what we’re doing.

I unironically love 1960s batman. Everyone argues over who is the best Batman and to me no one beats Adam West. Absolutely iconic and the most comic Canon Batman hands down.

Towards the end, when they're in a the gym, there's this clearly fake Batman shadow behind the Joker. Even after Batman stops posing, it's still there.
Batman is a billionaire and is a hero so like where's his incentive to work where's his decent into crime where's his logic???

i love that the main conflict in that episode is “you’re giving kids free money so they don’t have to work ever in their lives” which sounds pretty cool tbh

Actually, season 3 in general is pretty iconic since it introduces batgirl in the first episode
S3 is the least popular season. That's why it got the show cancelled, and the Batgirl spinoff was cancelled before even airing.
For a moment there in the poisoning scene I got confused and thought she was wearing a Team Rocket uniform and not just a cheerleader outfit.

My friends put this show on 3 years ago when we were at a beach house. I was on acid and it made me have the worst trip ever. The joker was talking directly to me and laughing and the sound effects from the show were blasting in my ears and I tripped in a joker nightmare for hours. No bs. This show literally gives me ptsd now

as well as the show, they also had a movie (Batman: The Movie) and we had to analyse it for media studies and it was the goofiest thing ever--we literally had to compare it to The Dark Knight 💀

Same, the batman videos were how I first found his channel, so it feels like a TH-camr anniversary or something to come back to it now. I love it.
Crazy how they looked at this show and thought 'Ya know, I think we can probably improve on this' when it was already so gosh dang bat-perfect.
I don't think they really understood what they had. The first season is great but then they overdo everything in the second season and really ruin the show. The same thing happened to Lost in Space. Credit Bill Dozier for putting it on the air but he didn't like or understand the material.

Did this show air every day!? That would make a lot of this stuff much more forgivable.
It aired on Wednesdays with an episode, and then they would air the second part of the episode on Thursday.

I just a post today by an engineer that works for Reddit and even spending $32K upfront for new computers, they would break even within 3 months against their existing Intel i9 workstations. They are that much faster when it comes to time = money when compiling software (and that’s for making the Android mobile app). Not as crappy as you may think. They have their uses.
@Caleb OKAY an M1 mac will slaughter your gaming laptop in productivity. As much as I am really not interested in apple, and generally recommend to avoid them, their M1 macs are absolute powerhouses. Still overpriced, and of course now using proprietary hardware which makes them even more of an enclosed ecosystem which is awful, but they are INSANELY powerful when it comes to productivity processing.

If you ever do another one of these, cover the movie. It's genuinely amazing, so many iconic moments, you'd love it.
I remember prior to DC & Marvel really taking off, I had a debate with some co-workers where my stance was that we have been long overdue for a Wonder Woman movie given how many Supermen and Batmen we have been getting. I was told that the reason for that is that Wonder Woman would be too difficult to tell a proper story about.
Over that next weekend, I was watching old-timey TV and there was a 90 minute block of TV with:
1. 1950's Superman (black & white)
2. 1960's Batman (as seen in this video)
3. 1970's Wonder Woman
Using the numbers above, here's what happened in each episode I saw that day:
1. A blind kid wins a contest to be meet Superman. But the kid doesn't believe in Superman, so in order to make her believe, Superman restores her vision. (Kinda sucks, that this only happened because she didn't believe in him, and otherwise would have remained blind, lol) (S2E26)
2. The exact episode featured in this video where the Joker gets busted rigging a high school basketball game.
3. Wonder Woman has to prevent Nazis from assassinating a future President of the United States (eisenhower). Coolest move was when she caught a fired rocket and sent it back at those MF'ing Nazis. (you can find this whole clip on TH-cam by searching: "Wonder Woman Saves General Eisenhower from an Ambush & wins beauty contest")
I remember coming away from that experience thinking, "Ah yes. Wonder Woman's story would be too difficult to tell."
Anyway, glad to see everyone else being subjected to this episode, lol
I'm genuinely surprised that it took as long as it did to get her movie, she's in the legendary trio with Batman and Superman, but for some reason they chose Catwoman to get a film long before her, and we all know how that turned out.

I used to watch the show as a kid back in the early 90's. I think they had just killed off Robin in the comic books, but I misunderstood and thought that was how the series ended. I thought for sure one of those cliffhanger endings was going to end tragically for him and dreaded that day.
Glad some folks understand my thorough love and appreciation for Batman '66.

This was the episode that got me into the show!
Went through a phase of only watching the original Batman tv show as it was constantly on rerun. One of the things that has stayed in my mind over 10 years later involved an episode where Robin and Batman are trapped in a freeze chamber. Batman says something like ‘Robin, get the anti-freeze lozenges’. It’s puzzled me ever since.
This was always one of my favorite episodes, thank you for covering it.

In fact, West discovered the only limits to his bedroom batpowers were those caused by his famous costume.
