idk what it is about the dark knight but every time i watch it, i feel like the movie should have ended with the joker escaping in the police car so much so that i once actually stopped the movie there, once i watch past that part i just feel bored for the rest of the movie. the boat scene i just find that it comes out of no where, the sonar device feels like they just really wanted to use it one more time. the 3rd act in general just makes it go from a great movie to a good movie for me.

I loved the Batman’s ending scene a lot, I felt the opposite on your point of no main villain being in it. I think that’s what makes it good, the riddlers plan had worked, Batman had been beaten by the riddler up to that point. You think that only the dam has been breached, but then they come out with guns and start shooting them. Then Batman’s entrance through the roof, and it seems like he is actually struggling against these guys, it makes Batman seem more human. To end it off, Batman goes ham on the guy, showing no mercy. It probably would be my second other than the dark night

    • @gustavogirotto

I also love the moments where Bruce realizes what was wrong with him calling himself vengeance, and the moment when Batman saves all those people and leads them out of the wreckage with his torch. I disagree with “the batman” final placing, I think because riddler is in jail, we’re led to think it’s over now, but his plan is already well under way, and no one can stop it, therefore he has a better presence in jail as supposed to being out. And I don’t think we really need to care about his followers, cause I’m the end they’re just a driving force in his plan and while yeah the action is a little short, I still think It’s great.

I love love love the climax of TDKR. I just feel its so heart pumping and there is real sense of satisfaction when Batman beats Bane. Then the whole Bat and Batpod chase sequence is really exciting and Zimmer's music is really epic. TDK climax is outstanding as well because it shows Batman's tactical mind so well. The actual fight with Joker is not exactly a highlight because fighting the Joker is not a massive physical feat. But him having to take down the SWAT team to save them was pretty awesome and I loved Nolan's interpretation of the white eyes. The Batman climax was fine, but I never really felt these Riddler wannabes were much of a threat. His entry into the scene was awesome though.

  • @matthewputnam8579

    1. Zack Snyder’s Justice League
    - Batman willing to sacrifice himself during the Batmobile sequence, Superman with one of the best Superhero entrances of all time, and Flash turning back time is truly epic.
    2. The Dark Knight
    - Best of Nolan’s fight choreo and the boat sequence adds both tension and thematic layers to the film. Batman “wins” but at great cost, having to take the fall for Harvey’s crimes.
    3. The Batman
    - Incredible score/sound design, the whole film had amazing fight choreography, and I get goosebumps when Batman injects himself with venom. I also love Batman realizing vengeance isn’t enough and he needs to become a symbol of hope.
    4. The Dark Knight Rises
    - Huge stakes and epic ambition, the Batman vs Bane rematch is rewarding and comes to a satisfying conclusion (although I prefer the first fight), and Batman’s sacrifice is handled well. A few plot holes and Thalia hold this back from being placed even higher
    5. Batman Vs Superman
    - DC’s trinity working together for the first time holds weight, they each get a moment to shine, Doomsday provides a powerful threat, and Superman’s sacrifice is emotional.
    6. Batman Begins
    - Great stakes both on both a personal and city level, cool visuals with Scarecrow’s fear gas, and Batman revealing his identity is a nice touch. However, the action was shot very poorly in this film which is a shame.
    7. Batman 1989
    - Great score with iconic lines and visuals. Love Joker’s death scene. Good set pieces but Batman doesn’t feel powerful enough to me and it hasn’t aged particularly well.
    8. Batman Returns
    - I felt the third act of this film was the weakest part as I actually prefer this film to Batman 1989. This final battle wraps things up really well for the villains and has a fantastic score and aesthetic, however this means Batman takes a back seat.
    9. Batman: MoP
    - Very personal stakes so as a final battle this feels small and a tad bit underwhelming. Great reveal on who the Phantasm is though, and I love what Mark does voicing the Joker.
    10. Josstice League
    - Shares some of the same set pieces that make ZSJL amazing, however the colour correction makes it look way worse. Also some VERY questionable decisions, changing Superman’s epic superhero entrance to something corny with a lot less tension. And Flash goes from being the hero in ZSJL to a big joke here.
    11. Batman Forever
    - Really cool and honestly underrated visuals here. I think the cinematography, score, and overall aesthetic is fantastic. However, none of the action is memorable and the villains pose a very minimal threat which lets the tension out of the balloon.
    12. The Lego Batman Movie
    - Nothing wrong with it, it’s just campy and I’m not really a fan of that, especially in a Batman movie.
    13. Batman & Robin
    - I mean what really needs to be said here? The action isn’t at all memorable, the villains are a disgrace, and it doesn’t even look or sound half as pretty as Batman Forever.

One thing I will say about Joss Whedon's Justice League is there is this scene between Bruce and Alfred and Bruce admits that Clark was more human than he was. The only bad thing about it was that Bane was made into some lackey by that, and Talia Al Ghul never got a chance to actually feel like a VILLAIN villain. 14. Josstice League, a fine enough battle that is completely soured by not only the colour correction but by everything that ZSJL has shown us was left out on the cutting room floor. For everything the more hopeful Superman does, The Flash, Cyborg, and Batman gets shafted here. I understand anyone that puts it above others such as 66 and the Schumacher stuff, but I can’t.
    13. Batman 66, cheesy enough to turn on in the background, works for what they wanted to do at the time, but would never fare well here.
    12. Batman Forever
    11. Batman and Robin, between the two I remember this one slightly more, I sway back and forth between them.
    10. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, a fitting conclusion but not as strong as the others, a straightforward story and finale done really well.
    9. The Lego Batman Movie, a fun and unique finale that stands out from the others with its distant flair. I don’t get exhausted from this film, perhaps due to being younger than yourself, but I can see that happening.
    8. Batman Returns, not too much to comment here personally except completely dodging the children stuff which is off putting.
    7. Batman Begins, a solid big finale, with some good emotional punch that’s a bit choppy in fighting. Better editing could make this more memorable.
    6. Batman 89, a solid enough finale, like the stuff on the city with the blimp plan and the Batwing, a bit less so in the church. Joker isn’t what’s bad, more so Batman straight up killing the Joker and it having very little effect on him after that. For me that sticks with me after the credits.
    5. The Batman, a solid finale that should’ve been setup a bit more, but love a lot here. Love the idea of The Riddler’s group, scarily realistic and makes sense why they would take drastic action here, but punishing the entire city undoes the retribution Riddler seeks and turns him into another baddie.
    4. The Dark Knight Rises, an emotional and truly epic finale that is partly held back for me by everything that leads up to it. Some other stuff includes the underwhelming Talia reveal and death and just punching each other down. Wish I could love it more, like how Sean sees The Batman, I could see a better finale here.
    3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition, for me Doomsday works perfectly into Lex Luthor’s complex but not convoluted plan as the endgame to killing Batfleck and Supes. A bit long and wished Doomsday looked more iconic like in the animated iterations.
    2. The Dark Knight, an intelligent finale that shows the ideal clash paying off from the boats to the fall of Harvey Dent!
    1. Zack Snyder’s Justice League, still love this finale from Batfleck ready to jump into impending doom, to Superman being not impressed, to Diana killing Steppenwolf and the music as it happens, to Cyborg and The Flash completing their arcs satisfyingly saving the day (The Flash scene is truly amazing, can’t believe WB wouldn’t do this scene)!

      @crazydud3380 ปีที่แล้ว

@@shane7778 It's overstuffed, but I think WB has to take a lot of blame for that. They rushed to get to a Justice League movie, and as a result, only 2 members of the league even had a solo film beforehand. Because of that, Zack Snyder has to cram a lot of extra storytelling and character development in. I know the studio considered his original cut unwatchable due to it's length, but it's their own damn fault. With this particular movie, Zack proves that they should have just let him finish his trilogy (the movie could be trimmed down to 3 hours for it's theatrical run). Granted it is significantly better than both Man of Steel and BvS (though again the director's cut of the latter is significantly better than what we got in theaters). With these movies, the less they are about Superman, the better they are. Sadly, that is the one character Snyder just doesn't seem to understand, which isn't too surprising when you look at his oeuvre of work.

    14. Batman & Robin (I genuinely don't remember this finale, and I like Batman & Robin)
    13. Josstice League (Nothing here really works other than the soundtrack.)
    12. Batman Forever (Robin's choice completely undermines the emotional weight and the spectacle isn't very satisfying, so it doesn't really work.)
    11. Batman vs. Superman (Entirely boring. Completely dodges the ideas and questions it has going so far and turns into a sloppy, weightless, overlong mess.)
    10. Batman Begins (Genuinely uninteresting. The idea of the city being crowded in fear gas would be great, but it doesn't go anywhere. The fight on the train is a cool idea, but it's poorly shot and super underwhelming.)
    9. The LEGO Batman Movie (Letting the villains win for a while is always a fun idea, and this time they really make sure we know it. A bit too huge and exhausting but insanely fun.)
    8. Batman '89 (Absolutely operatic and gaudy, definitely feels improvised. Probably the peak of the film mainly thanks to the imagery.)
    7. Batman '66 (The stuff of the sub is very fun and classic 60s show. It's exactly suited to the film and I adore it.)
    6. The Dark Knight Rises (In terms of imagery and satisfaction, it mostly works. The fighting itself is merely fine and of course the Talia reveal is....but I still think it's good.)
    5. The Batman (Has some great emotional moments and gorgeous imagery, but the jump into this final act was a bit too rushed.)
    4. Batman Returns (Just like the rest of the film, it barely cares about Batman but gives very fitting and satisfying payoffs to everyone else, so I like it.)
    3. Zack Snyder's Justice League (I partially stopped caring once we got here but I can't deny that it's super comprehensive, fun, and operatic.)
    2. The Dark Knight (Assuming we're talking the boats, then it's a genuinely intelligent, tense, thematically driven way to end the film. Constantly twisting itself to keep the atmosphere up and doubling down on all its setups.)
    1. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (Fights can be both physical and emotional, and this one triples down on the latter, making the lack of physicality practically unnoticable. Everything here is character, so I love it.)

The Batman is by far my favorite, to me it’s the most nuanced with everything it says without having to explicitly say it. I get why the decision to be a symbol of hope is weird to some, it was weird to me the first time I saw it. However, the more I have watched it, the more I have noticed the small moments that make it so much better, and by far the best finale.

    • @RayyanKhanRayyanKhan
      @RayyanKhanRayyanKhan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I don't mind the symbol of hope sequence but I wish it was more of a recurring theme rather than shoe-horned into the final third.

    • @willp5643
      @willp5643 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@RayyanKhanRayyanKhan it is certainly a recurring theme, Batman is referred to as vengeance throughout the entire movie, and it is shown multiple times that people are scared of him. His first scene in the film shows a man cowering at him despite being saved by him. This is contrasted at the end when the woman won’t let go of him as she is lifted off the roof by a helicopter. He has evolved from a symbol of vengeance to a symbol of hope, and it is by no means shoehorned in. The then is likely to evolve even further in future films and I can’t wait.

    • @RayyanKhanRayyanKhan
      @RayyanKhanRayyanKhan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@willp5643 they mentioned vengeance for sure but there's no semblance of hope until the final 20 minutes. If they had him deliberate halfway throughoutout the movie about his methods then maybe it would be more satisfying for me. But imo it was just too abrupt.

Also for The Batman you don’t think that Batman fighting the Riddlers is essentially him fighting the dark side of his ideology? the “I’m vengeance” epiphany moment. I think that Matt Reeves did a much better job at Batman’s epiphany moment than Zack Snyders Martha moment. Also the content of the fight was much more meaningful than another big gray monster. Totally respect your opinion though.

1989 Batman lost its luster for me over the years, and I remember it blowing my mind as a kid. Part of my many problems is that, during that end battle, Joker says, "I was just a kid when I killed your parents." Is that an ad-lib? A writing oversight? If deliberate, the Joker knew who Batman really was. Didn't make sense and raised more questions than anything. For me, that movie was sheer spectacle created by a director who clearly had a limited understanding of Batman as a character and even less interest in him.

I watched The Batman for a second time today and it gets better with more viewings! I actually saw it 1.5x. Penguin is the most hilarious one. "What the hell is this, good cop, bat cop 💩?" "You two make a great duet. You should start harmonizing together!" Even explaining the difference between el and la got me rolling. No habla Español? I still can't believe that's Colin Farrell.
I wouldn't argue with anyone if they think The Batman is the GOAT Batman film or at least their personal favorite. It really does get better with repeat viewings. The last hour of it was pure awesome. One of my favorite scenes is when he punches Gordon which leads him to the tower where he hang glides / parachutes down. That's followed up by the Penguin chase scene. That was a brilliant 10 minutes that sets up the third act which kicks into higher gear.
I appreciated Sorkins performance more. He's a good Alfred. But I appreciated Dano even more. Listen to how he speaks. It keeps changing. To me, he's like Heath's Joker except he tests your mind with riddles. It truly is an excellent movie. This is not fake praise for it because we hyped it so long and we're Batman fans. It's genuinely a good movie. It can be slow and a little boring in that middle act. But keep rewatching and there's quite a number of truly brilliant scenes from the opening 10 minutes to Penguin to the final hour.

My favorite is honestly the original 89 or Snyder cut. Dark Knight's was good with the two face segment, but the joker fight with the 2 boats with the exception of the actual people on the boat honestly felt underwhelming and a little boring for me. It also felt like it wrapped up two face a little too quickly and could have saved him for a sequel as the main antagonist. I like Snyder cut because to put it simply, if there's one thing Zack Snyder can do, it's have great action sequences. And the 89 because I just enjoy the entire parade and cathedral scene with the most iconic shots in Batman history (mainly the batwing and the moon.)

I'd probably have to go with the dark knight rises, the film sacrificed some credibility to increase the spectacle, and while that brought the film down as a whole, the area where this proved valuable was the big, epic, final conclusion.
Also, question for you Sean: while I know this is a topic of some controversy, have you ever thought about reviving the Daily Wire's movies like The Hyperions, shut in, or run hide fight? If people look at the movies from a purely cinematic standpoint, it doesn't matter if a conservative media outlets produces them. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout it’s so good. Definitely makes me more excited to see him become the Joker, because Reeves said that this is just an insane guy who hasn’t yet become the Joker. I hope that in the next movie they have like a Court Of Owls story or perhaps a villain who is more chaotic but not Joker, and then they have a breakout in Arkham Asylum. Everyone is contained except this Joker, but then kidnapped by the Penguin because of some issue whether he killed his men, or he owes Penguin money, and we see him get the origin he deserves. Then we can get a full Joker origin story, as well as a more chaotic Gotham with gang wars between the two similar to the Batman Arkham games

Batman & Robin & Batman Forever both had epic final battles, but they sucked. The stakes were very high, but it was just too goofy to even care.
