    The Pixel 6 Pro is one of the most anticipated devices of 2021. Big thanks to Google for sending over a Pixel 6 Pro to test. In this video, I take you guys along with me as I do a photowalk in NYC shooting exclusively with the Pixel 6 Pro.
    There are composition tips, shooting techniques, and tons of example photos and videos. And of course there are also social media comparisons between Snapchat, Instagram, and the native camera app.
    After the POV segment, we will jump into lightroom to pixel peep at some of the images. And at the end I share some pro's and con's of using this device as my daily driver.
    If you found this helpful, I would appreciate a like, comment, and subscribe!

But I so highly appreciate you taking time to do this video I have been looking for weeks for a phone and I'm not sure which one will be good for me and I'm thinking that this one might. It is refreshing to get an actual photographer sharing their insights instead of just a bunch of poorly framed photos from reviewers. 😅 I especially love the pixel peeping section and the subjective bits where you explain why you framed a shot and how/why you adjusted how you shot the photos.

    This was a great showing of what the Pixel 6 Pro can do before Google actually tunes the software for the new hardware. And you said what I've been saying since the phone came out though. The software needs to catch up with the new camera power. Only thing I wish you did was take more portrait shots using the 4x telephoto natively without the software magic. I feel like that will give the best results for portraits since everything will be real depth and natural. Can't wait to get mine.

    • @MrSwaggernaut83
      @MrSwaggernaut83 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Can confirm, the tele lens is great on its own, natural bokeh is almost always there, and though it's not a ton, it's enough to look great and it's natural

    • @claughlin

      Why would they release the Pixel 6 Pro before tuning the software for the new hardware?

    • @sidersproductions941

      @12:20 Such an AWESOME feature to be able to adjust the blurring of the background _after the pic was taken_ in Portrait mode!
      I think the automatic blur could be reduced maybe 30%. The person's edge is slightly too sharp for my taste.
      Maybe if they made the setting user adjustable beforehand & retain the setting until I reset it manually? 🤔

    • @sidersproductions941
      @sidersproductions941 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@BoltRM yes I agree 100%. The effect is overdone. But I'm thinking Google will eventually release some updates to improve it. The 4x telephoto actually does a better job of doing portraits than the dedicated portrait mode.

      From what I seen and in store. The 6 pro and iPhone video quality and stability is neck and neck. Both doing better in different situations. The voice audio though goes to the pixel especially from the front with voice enhancement. It blocks out the loud sound around you. I seen people using it in cities with helicopters flying over and more.

    great video. luckily I got got a 256gb pro last week and did one RAW edit for the first time today, just testing (edit in snapseed). The DNG was very flat and overexposed .. was able to pull that back but was pretty impressed on what the phone did on its own to create the jpeg. RAW edits on the phone will take some practice. I agree that the falloff in the portrait is too strong as a default so may need to edit mine. BTW, the video stabilization modes are incredible, try them all if you haven't. I like that I can edit in google or my own editor with a direct link (e.g. snapseed). I’m not really bothered by gimmicks such as action pan or motion blur which I suspect I would use very occasionally but there was tons of practical, photographic knowledge of how the camera performs. I spotted your video a little late otherwise I would have commented sooner. As a photographer, appreciate the work you put into the video. I take people like yourself much more seriously than the large mega channels like LMG and MrWhoseTheBoss. I can tell from how you describe composition, telephoto compression, negative and positive space in the frame as well as the limitations of computational photography that you are a real photographer. I have watched about two dozen TH-cam reviews while waiting for my pre-order to arrive. The one thing I've seen in common with the videos I've watched is knowing when to use the computational photography is as important as knowing when not to use it and go about it old school manual. It seems Google's portrait mode needs a lot of work and its computational photography has gotten overhyped to God level when it isn't. I would much prefer to shoot portraits using the tele manually in 4x mode instead of the software portrait mode with the fake bokeh. Then edit in post. Hopefully my preorder for the 6 Pro will arrive Monday. I am hoping this phone will reignite my interest again in photography. I haven't touched my DSLRs since 2019. This phone has my hope up since I often wish I had my big camera on me sometimes. Perhaps It will get me to pickup the large cameras again too.

    • @azvisuals
      @azvisuals  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your thoughtful comment! For me, almost every phone works well enough and its the cameras that really separate one from another. Especially since I don't want to carry around a full frame camera and lens all the time yet still want to capture good quality images. That is why not having a pro mode on the pixels is really annoying for photographers and power users like us who want to use that creative freedom. But being able to shoot raw and edit in post helps a bit. Hopefully they can introduce a pro mode on the next generation devices.

      I have a feeling/hope that they'd launch compact versions as the 6A/6A pro. I've ordered the regular 6 because I shoot mostly landscape where I live in New Zealand and I know the size will grind my gear going from a Pixel 3. Also the sorta seafoam colour just got me some sorta way

    Fantastic review, thanks for you work putting it together. I've got the P6 and the camera is amazing, so sharp and crisp. I do most of my editing in LR mobile and adjust the hdr as I see fit. Personally I think the wide angle is a bit soft and don't think I could print bigger than A4, however the main camera is epic. I've noticed on panoramics that it over saturates the colours though and it takes quite a bit of work to bring them back down to normal levels but I need to test it some more to be sure. Fwiw I'm getting 8 hours of screen on time and it gets better day by day as the pixel learns your usage.... It's going to get better with updates as the system grows. Nice one!

    The display on my 6 Pro really doesnt seem hollow at all. Listening really carefully, I can hear and feel the tapping sensation change towards the center of the screen, but nothing noteworthy. Maybe visit a google store or tech dealer in your vicinity and check out other 6Ps, maybe the glueing between screen and glass is messed up on your device. Hoping that Google will release updates to make the camera better and probably they will as they have great update support for their older devices. I have a pixel 6 pro and am also a photography enthusiast. I have had limited use playing with my pixel pro cameras but I agree with your review that the tele looks to be a gem. Hardware appears to be great but hard to tell with all of googles heavy handed processing. I agree with almost everything you mention and dedicated manual settings would be great. I havent tried editing a raw file yet.
    Regardless , I think the pixel pro camera software needs the following improvements...tone down the HDR , its too aggressive, a slider which allows you to reduce or turn off would be great.
    White balance indoors isnt very good and getting too much yellow under fluorescent. Also tried to take a photo of my TV and the camera couldnt handle it. Not something I do often but I wanted to share a pic of something I was watching and could not get the camera to get a decent shot at all, crazy colours green and purple. The camera simply could not meter the TV . All of my old phones managed this easily.
    Oh well keeping the phone, hopefully these are all software related issues that can be cleaned up.

When I first started using the screen, I dunno if i would say it fellt hollow, but it just felt like my finger wasn't even moving on it, just felt like pressure on my finger tip. Its super smooth. @@azvisuals This was my very first impression when I took the phone out of the box. I think it's due to that hollow sound the screen produces when you tap it, as if the screen was not properly glued to the base, which happened once to my wife's Xiaomi. Thought this could be a defect on my Pixel, too! But now that it seems common, perhaps this is Victus soft-to-the-touch experience, which reminds me of resistive screens back in PDA era
