    This comparison is lacking. Besides obvious result, it lacks night shots, and other camera challenging scenarios

    • @Quoutub
      @Quoutub 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      teczowyrozowy Yes, I have seen many out-of-camera sample images from a Fuji medium format camera and they are definitely worse than Google's jpgs due to blown out highlights. See www.dpreview.com/sample-galleries/3627631444/fujifilm-gfx-50s-samples-from-the-streets-of-tokyo/2333539630

    • @samuelbaird4983
      @samuelbaird4983 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, this, Even with studio lighting the hasselblad is well above the pixel. In night shots, it wouldn't even be a fair comparison.

    • @njsfer
      @njsfer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Quoutub You must be kidding me. Bring out the Pixel 2 or any other smartphone and I'll bring my 10yr old Canon 450D and it will blow away the smartphone in every scenario. So, comparing it to the great Fujifilm camera that you talked about is being ridiculous. Smartphones suck at low light photography.

    • @blackeesh463
      @blackeesh463 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Quoutub a t3i with a vintage cheapo lens would obliterate any smartphone in a low light scenario,let alone a bloody medium format Fuji.Dafuk are you on about?

    • @bytomw
      @bytomw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +84

      Ramjee Nithin Krishna Sepuri it’s no where near. Snapseed is a great mobile app. Lightroom is a DAM system, raw editor and so much more.

    • @ramjeenithinkrishnasepuri5228
      @ramjeenithinkrishnasepuri5228 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Tom Wright, agreed you won't get those features. But snapseed also edits RAW images.

    • @ragilmalik
      @ragilmalik 7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      snapseed is only for mobile. but as until today, even lightroom can't match snapseed on mobile (snapseed also edits all type of RAW from different manufacturer). they are both optimised for different platform.
      if google does release lightroom-like for PC, they will be way better. believe me. google has tried to put every product everywhere and won.

      Rather than saying it will replace, I guess you showed more of how DSLR and other kinds of professional cameras are still relevant in the fast-moving technological age. I mean, my work sometimes requires me to know resolutions, pixel and printing quality, but you really showed the difference. Guess a professional camera is still required for me to print posters :)

      thats why i said professionals, dude. but pixel 2 is a steal for the price compared to iphone x

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucky Never True, I still prefer an S8, I wouldn't stand the pixels horrible screen, and yeah but people don't buy Iphones for their cameras, they do it because of their closed ecosystem and/or because they're a popular and/or to look like they're a part of a specific social class

    • @luckynever8208
      @luckynever8208 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am using s8 myself but I think Pixel 3 will be my next upgrade. Google is still a startup in smartphone when compared to samsung and apple. i also used iPhone 1st gen until iPhone 5, left after Steve Jobs no longer the ceo. Apple nowadays is a luxury company with lots of cash and they will no longer be the leader of future.

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucky Never True, but Google doesn't make their own phones, LG and Huawei do, and all LG phones have had problems, ever since the G2-G6, to the Nexus 5, the 5x, V10, V20, bootloop galore, first generation pixels were full of problems, this second generation has a horrible screen, no headphone jack and it's just a matter of time until they start bootlooping too

    • @luckynever8208
      @luckynever8208 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think blue tint screen is acceptable, my s8 also got this problem. and yes LG is only a temp solution for Google. Samsung does have the best screen currently but in the future you never gonna know.
      i have a very good feeling about Pixel and they will replace Apple as best selling smartphone in the future. AI is the key of their devices

Give it another 3years and it will be very difficult to distinguish the pics taken from the two, especially for low end DSLRs and flagship phones. cameras. Can't wait to see what the pixel phones bring to the table in the future.

    One thing I've noticed between my dslr and pixel is that w8th the dslr you obviously want to avoid the harsh midday sun. However with the phone camera and tiny sensor it absolutely thrives in these conditions with all the extra light it can get in. In fact if these pictures were taken outside midday I'm sure the difference would have been even smaller.

  • @jaimeduncan6167

    You are comparing a very old Hasselblad Camera that does not cost 20K not even as a joke. The 40mpixels sensor in that camera is a CCD and it's as old, in thenology terms as my Granma in human terms. I believe that this video is unintentionaly missleading.

    • @stalman
      @stalman  7 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      I totally hear your criticism that it’s the latest phone compared to an older Hasselblad, but do you think that the newer CMOS cameras would have changed any of the commentary I had about the image quality? The goal was to give photographers that currently only use their phone an idea of how their camera can and can’t compete with pro gear

    • @dadanardi5541
      @dadanardi5541 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      oh yeah Tyler the new gen CMOS medium format sensor is a leap in term of dynamic range and high iso performances and most of these sensor from Sony are isoinvariant so you will get the most benefit in raw, i am a camera tech enthusiast and i follow these kind of things closely.
      reading the comments, i feel you will need to add situation when there are huge different in performance when comparing cellphone and larger sensor camera otherwise people won't have any ideas or appreciate of why pro cameras are expensive for example is when the Hassie is at its full potential. The pixel2 is already at its full potential in this video (good light, non mix whitebalance, non moving object)
      1. outdoor nightshoot, cityscape for example
      2. outdoor or non studio situational shoot in general, good light bad light
      3. versatility of changing lenses, for example what would happened when the Hassie use better lenses.
      4. Raw, the versatility of isoinvariant sensor, pull & push process comparing to cellphone raw.
      5. Print

      Regardless of the Hasselblad model, it should beat a smartphone and did. The fact that's the pixel 2 can hang with a older model professional camera says something about the pixel 2.
      Thanks Tyler for justify my purchase of the pixel 2. I am no professional but I am the designated camera picture person at this years Thanksgiving and Christmas.

    • @dadanardi5541
      @dadanardi5541 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      1. it should be compared to newer version of Hasselblad because it's not longer $20k anymore, the title should be Google Pixel 2 Camera Test vs. $5k Hasselblad, the new version x1d is even at $7k... body only
      2. the pixel2 can hang with medium format camera when in it's good light, in controlled environment, how will it fare in the wild? in environment you need to use iso above 800?
      This test only give viewer the surface, if the viewers doesn't research more it can misslead people. "What do you need $4k camera for? my phone can do almost the same hurr durr"

      KTAC1 Because its a controled studio enviorment.Blads are used mostly for printing due to their huge sensor,if you tried to print an image that is larger than 5"x9" on a pixel it would look horrid.A pro camera is meant only for pro use,imagine the diference in night photography,or wildlife.Its a stupid video not only because its missleading(that Blad costs under 4k and is an old camera) but because they havent pointed out why pro cameras are used.

    the biggest difference imho is composition. All the hasselblad pictures are much better composed. For example with the digital bokeh, when you go over her face, you see her hair interrupt her chin. Whereas the hasselblad has a clear outline of her hair that tells you, she doesn't have weird growths coming from her face :P
    Of course the dynamic range and sharpness is there, but I find that the angles of the photos makes it hard to really compare what you get.

    At the end of the day you get what you pay for. Most people don't blow up their shots to 100% and therefore don't need a 'medium' format camera. And generally speaking most people can't tell the difference between an average shot and a great one anyway. Photography has become an undervalued art because of the proliferation of phone cameras and apps like Instagram.

    you did forget one point, Hasselblad's files are worked on, in the Phocus software (modern H4/5/6D's) and the Flexicolor software (ixpress {H1}/H2); because the distortion/CA/Vignetting is removed by these, and corrected lens data is used to improve the image as well as the phone!! Also remember that the H series is limited in iso, at least the early ones to ~ 800 or so, as the noise in these CCD not CMOS sensors is problematic, as seen in other youtube videos, aka it is like 1250 iso on a Nikon D700, not YUK, like a woolen hand knit rug!!, or an impressionist painting, but you might know this, and have tested at base iso for both systems, 100/200 for each, or maybe 50 for the H6.

    Please do a camera comparison for the flagships of 2017? Phones like Pixel 2, iPhone X, note 8 and the mate 10 pro (with its leica lens)! Seen other youtubers' comparisons but would love your take as it seems that you have done more in-depth camera reviews =)

    Great comparison. The google phone has a 20mp cam right? I mean you can’t go wrong with a hasselblad but I get it. Well done. I’m on the fence on getting a new phone so this was helpful.

    Gave a like for the comment at the end. Cell phones have made giant leaps in just the last 10 years, but until dslrs receive calls, they will never replace a dedicated professional camera.

    What I'm really interested in is: how much do you have to spend on a dedicated camera to beat the pixel 2s? (I know many aspects of almost any dedicated camera can't be beaten by a smartphone, but I'm more interested in the scenario of casual photos)

    • @paullanoue5228
      @paullanoue5228 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not how far you have to go to beat smartphones. This test for a Hasselblad was like asking an Olympic Hurdler to jump over a matchbox. Making images the size of a stamp was not what medium format cameras are designed for. Let’s make some 60x40 inch prints and see how the phone compares. The quick answer is it won’t.

    If you want to take full advantage of a smartphone camera, you should take the photograph using software like lightroom for android. Lightroom let's you capture and edit the raw output of the sensor (*.dng format)and the result are way better than google hdr+. Then, you can compare to Hasselblad.

    the biggest improvement a smartphone camera can make from previous generation is samsung galaxy S7.
    remember when s6 came out and iphone, lg, htc was still competing ?
    s7 came out with first dual pixel on smartphone, and led the competition by miles.
    then every company started implementing dual pixel and it's a crowded competition again.

    A wise photographer told me that if your camera is limited, then try to understand your camera's greatest strength and play into that instead of trying to take just what you think is "generally cool looking" shot.

    So, it happens that with an average screen today,which might be a full HD LCD screen, you simply won't be able to see how much better the image from a DSRL is compared to a cellphone camera. Matter of fact , have you ever tried to print an image from cellphone camera ? Resolution on the printed image gets prettier poor, and it's in that aspect that DSRLs show their potential.

    • @v8enginepower201
      @v8enginepower201 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you need 40 Megapixels if an 4k screen in just about 10 Megapixels ? The answer: printing images. Printed images have immensely greater resolution than any screen, besides even in a screen, DSRl is just that little bit better the common use might not care, but the professional will.

    This is just my opinion, but I feel that "pro" phone cameras are almost like an oxymoron now. Because they now offer a level of quality absolutely no one is asking for, _except_ those who are either pro already or aspiring pro's. In both cases they will not be using a phone anyway. So basically this: Phones now cost twice of what they should, because the manufactures are trying to compete where they can't, over customers who are not interested. *_Fantastic!_*

    The megapixel count of a camera doesn't matter if the lens is limiting it's capabilities. A 16 MP camera with a good lens will produce way better results than a 24 MP camera with a really bad lens.

    To have a more fair comparison.

    And great video!

    Very excellent review. It really made me rethink, will smartphone ever replace DLSR. But from the beginning they play different output size. Imagine 6 inch square smartphone' screen vs big billboard om the road. They're differ too much yo.
