right, probably clever to target at least one border town (or close to border town). Basel seems quite ideal in this regard (now curious to go there). Could you perhaps find some time to take a flight to a similar town with three closeby borders, and then start taking trains? preferably west-wards so you prolong the day a bit. (or start there and then go to Basel)
My idea has 9 but you probably need a car, Start in Trieste, go to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Greece. The trip by car is only 12 hours. Include the stops to get beers you could do it in 24hrs
Ok, now I'm planning to make it from Brno, Czech Republic. You can easily start at midnight and make your way to Bratislava where it's quite possible to find a drink at 2-3 am. Go by plane from London to Munich. Take the train to Innsbruck and then to Schaan/Vaaduz in Liechtenstein. You can walk across to Switzerland. After that take the train to Udine, Italy, move on to Slovenia and if you are lucky you can make Croatia on the same day. But that has to be carefully planned ahead. This way you can have eight in a day.
I love this comment😂 Just spent 30 days in Europe, didn’t get 5 in a day, but maybe 3. Germany, Switzerland, Italy during the train strike. I too didn't know I needed to see this. Excellent. I don't know if you've seen this but years and years ago the BBC did a series, I think it was called Comic Roots. Each week a different comedian would talk about how they got into comedy. It was all very earnest, 'Yes, I started in music hall' type stuff... until it got to Alexei Sayle. He barely spoke about comedy or his influences but made the programme a giant pub crawl advising on the best way to manages 24 hour drinking. Instead of 'Yes, I watched the Two Ronnies every week' it was 'There's a bar round 'ere opens at 4am...' 30 minutes of Alexei Sayle getting slowly drunk was by far the best use of the format.
Who else thought this would end with being left deserted on some German train station at night? DB classics. Wholesome and fun video, great discovery. If you started at midnight, in Aachen and used the full 24 hours I think you could do Belgium - Germany - Netherlands in a a few hours time and then get up to 6-8 countries possibly; would love a sequel or for this to become a big challenge like the beers & cigarettes one.

I went to Maastricht in the summer and it was really nice - the town centre is full of great shops, restaurants, etc. Seemed quite classy. Also public transport was excellent to get around to other places.

To get 7. Beer 1. Begin in Rijeka Croatia. Beer 2 + 3. Earliest available train/bus route to Trieste airport Italy. This passes through Slovenia (stop off) Beer 4. A flight to Budapest Hungary Beer 5. Work north to Bratislava Slovakia Beer 6. Vienna Austria Beer 7. Hopefully make it to Czech Republic border in time.
Hey Luxembourger here, so happy you came to our Country. Imo you should have stayed on the Train till Ettelbrück, there right outside the station is a pub open till 1 am. I dont take the northern line so often but it should have worked out timewise
Start in Estonia, work your way across the Baltics (that's three), have drink in Warsaw, Poland (four) , try to find a flight to Basel (the airport is actually in France), get a drink there (five), find a drink in Basel proper, which is in Switzerland (six), then hop over the border to Germany to finish the day off there (seven).
If you have someone (or preferably multiple people) who can drive, the best route is Maastricht-Liege-Luxembourg City-Strasbourg-Freiburg-Basel-Vaduz-Innsbruck-Trieste-Koper-Umag. Can be done in one day if there are no major traffic jams and you spend no more than about 40 minutes in each place.
Fantastic video with a great idea. I think you could’ve done a couple more by drinking in Scotland and Wales first, then from England heading out into Europe. Keep up the good work.
I love that this video was in my recommendations. Even better that you went to my hometown Aachen AND went to one of my favourite spots. This was so fun to see. I kinda want to try this challenge now too.
Nice video, I think you can do a better route that is outside UK and start with one of the 5 countries you visited and hop on a plane to another closely packed region (Metz to Luxembourg to Liege to Maastricht to Aachen, which has an airport) and then go on a plane to somewhere you can cross multiple countries in quick order, like Vienna to Bratislava to Hungary or Czechia.
The area around Lake Constance would be a good start. If you were to start in Lindau, Germany, you could work your way through Bregenz in Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. You might be able to make it down through Italy to Monaco and France within the day.
If budget is of no concern, do airport hopping... the only international airports without a 24h bar, I've been through, are Dubai and Helsinki. And, if you get hold of a person with access to the common flight booking system each hop of flight and transit can be down to 1h30m, so in theory you can make at least 16 stops in a day, if well planned.
Liked the 4:30 am beer. I used to work overnights so sometimes id buy beer at 6am on the way home, id always clarify that I had just gotten off work.lol.
Bizarre watching this as a 27 year old Brit in Lille hearing a 47 year old Brit in Lille say he hasn't been here in 20 years. I can 100% see myself doing exactly what you're doing in 20 years time. In fact, I hope I do.
Really amazing and funny video. I feel like if you play your cards right, you can catch a train to Denmark and maybe, just maybe squeeze Sweden in, maybe in Malmö.
Maybe start or end at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg? Its distance to the Tri-border point of France, Germany, and Switzerland is just 3 km. 3 beers with 2 hours, even if you take it slow. Similar situations can be found at Airports such as Bratislava (Slovakia), Maastricht, Vienna, Ljubjana (Slovenia), or Luxemburg. Maybe short flight plus smart use of regional public transport could deliver 6 beers within in 8 hours already.
This is exactly what I needed today, something about the challenge and the vibe speaks to my soul. Trains, beer, a sort-of pointless goal, a this is all I need in life
New viewer. What I really appreciated with this is that you did NOT have a real plan. "I don't know the rules in France, lets see what they say" just made it feel so much real.
class video as always mr knox🙌🏻 i guessed 6 at the start of the video, never thought i could be so captivated watching a bloke drink alcahol on a lounge chair in luxembourg
You’re lucky that the Liège > Maastricht > Aachen train decided to drive properly. Normally it suffers from heavy delays/cancellations. It also used to be a 70s-style small cabin train before being updated this year
Near Maastricht you got the 3 country point, Netherlands- Germany and Belgium. You can cross of the 3 within the hour, take the train to Luxembourg to Switzerland- Lichtenstein- Italy - France. Should be able to make it within the day
Start in Luxembourg at midnight, then get someone to drive you to Aachen, Liege and Maastricht for late night beers there. Take a plane to Vienna and get someone to drive you to Czechia, Bratislava, anywhere in Slovenia, Triest, Rijeka and finally Bosnia around midnight. 11 countries if there's actual flights that match up time wise and you find 2 people in completely different countries to drive a drunkard around.

I feel like the UK -> France -> Monaco -> Italy -> Switzerland -> Austria -> Liechtenstein? / Germany route is doable within a day and would give you 7 countries. Just need to fly to South of France and take high speed rail from there. You can get from Monaco into Northern Italy fairly quickly and from there into Milano Centrale, which has connections to Switzerland, and Swiss rail is fast, frequent and far-reaching. Worth looking into. Loved the video!
Upon careful planning, I have worked out you want to start in Belgium, then go Luxembourg, France, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, Slovenia then end in Croatia. 16 hours of driving, plenty of time to have 1 beer in each country
Think with more thorough planning you'd be able to squeeze Denmark. I did leave London much later and managed to do London, lille, Bruxelles, Rotterdam and duisburg Germany before the midnight.
You could definitely do more if you had a driver and didn't rely on public transport. Last year me and my mate set off from Basel at 8am, which is already at the tri-point of France, Switzerland and germany. We stopped off in Luxembourg for brunch. Visited the tri-point of germay, Belgium and Luxembourg, then drove up into Netherlands, eventually stopping off in Oostende for a bit before getting the tunnel home. If you stared earlier in the morning at the Austrian/Liechtenstein border, you could tick 8 off.
thats drinking commitment. I have done something like this starting from one end of the strip all way to downtown trying to have a couple of drinks in each place.
@RobbieKnox that's what I was thinking, I reckon 4 countries max if she was with you! If you're starting point wasn't england for the next one, you could probably do more.

Beer 2 + 3. Earliest available train/bus route to Trieste airport Italy.
This passes through Slovenia (stop off)
Beer 4. A flight to Budapest Hungary
Beer 5. Work north to Bratislava Slovakia
Beer 6. Vienna Austria
Beer 7. Hopefully make it to Czech Republic border in time.
Most I've done is three - UK, Malta and Macedonia, then on the return, Macedonia, Germany and UK. Great Vid dude!
Brilliant video Robbie. Enjoyed the journey with you. Cheers
Thanks Giuseppe, you’re very kind!
@@RobbieKnox your welcome. Loved the plot twist at the end. You sniffed out that last beer like a champion.
Would you get through the Baltics and Poland quick enough?
@@samil5601 Depends on the mode of transport, I guess.
@@MartinIbert Sure. Seeing that the person is drinking, I'd assume reliance on public transport.
That was great, Robbie! A fantastic mix of travel, quest and humour, all with the clock ticking.
Aw, what a lovely comment. Thanks!
I was in Brussels on a 20 hour layover once, and while exploring the city, I also came across the weeing boy fountain and wasn’t even looking for it.
All roads lead to boy weeing.
Never thought I'd be cheering that a stranger's train to Luxembourg would arrive so he could drink booze in one more country but here I am
Never thought I‘d be thrilled to watch a video of a guy stranded in Clervaux looking for a pint but here I am.
Bleak isn’t it?
It‘s peak entertainment for guys like me
Liked the 4:30 am beer.
I’m sure you will! Adventures are brilliant and we’re so lucky to have so many countries so close together.
Lille is a much underrated city and brilliantly located for London, Paris and Brussels.
He's your dad
Once again, a thoroughly enjoyable video, with added tension towards the end. Thank you Robbie.
Glad you liked it!
Really amazing and funny video. I feel like if you play your cards right, you can catch a train to Denmark and maybe, just maybe squeeze Sweden in, maybe in Malmö.
That’s a great idea! Will investigate!
Great video.
If you started east and travelled back to London, you would have an extra two hours for your challenge because of the time zones!
Good point. Although I’d need to find an early morning bar somewhere else!
This is exactly what I needed today, something about the challenge and the vibe speaks to my soul. Trains, beer, a sort-of pointless goal, a this is all I need in life
Robbie, this is your best ever video. Please do more solo missions, and please do more challenge videos!
Thanks! Will do!
New viewer. What I really appreciated with this is that you did NOT have a real plan. "I don't know the rules in France, lets see what they say" just made it feel so much real.
i assumed your 4:30am drink would have been in the airport! great idea - great video!
also, i wonder if you could have done something where you gain a load of hours back changing time zones? who knows... 10/10 regardless!!
Come with me next time and we’ll try and break the record!
Great video Robbie mate, happy travels.
Absolutely loved that cliffhanger Robbie, all the more exciting because I live in Luxembourg
Ooooo, Luxembourg the city or the country? I’m a Luxembourg expert now.
Great video! Your personality makes watching your videos so enjoyable, and the concept was fab too!
Aw, thanks. You’re very kind.
never thought I'd enjoy watching a man drinking by himself. Not trying to encourage you but that was excellent entertainment!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Very relaxing Matt enjoyed that thanks pal 👌
class video as always mr knox🙌🏻 i guessed 6 at the start of the video, never thought i could be so captivated watching a bloke drink alcahol on a lounge chair in luxembourg
Ha ha. It was a suitably bleak ending!
You’re lucky that the Liège > Maastricht > Aachen train decided to drive properly. Normally it suffers from heavy delays/cancellations. It also used to be a 70s-style small cabin train before being updated this year
Phew, I lucked out there.
banging video! got randomly recommended, watch it all. gained a new sub, cheers robbie lad
Hooray! Sorry in advance if future videos are disappointing.
Yeah, finding the drivers will be the tough bit!
Haven't seen a suggested video on TH-cam as fun as this for quite some time. Loved it! Subscribed!
Amazing, this is exactly the kind of thing that inspires people on my Facebook page - so I've shared it to the 238,000 members of Extreme Days Trips. Just perfect! What a great video, thank you 🎉
Aw, thanks Mike, you rule!
@@RobbieKnox pleasure. If you'd like to come along on an extreme day trip (all in a day!) to the middle of the high Alps, then feel free to! It's a regular trip for me, and I take groups of up to 15 people with me from the Facebook page too!
Ok i loved it, kind of looking forward to see if you cold have make it to Bale on time, but i was delighted to see that it was not about rush but about enjoying every second of it. Also, i thought the eurostar was only running from london to paris, which means this video definitely has an educational purpose.
Hats off to you
Prague - Vienna - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Sarajevo - Belgrade - Budapest - Kosice - Krakow
That would take the best part of a week.
Brilliant stuff mate! Real bucket-list stuff right there. Cheers!
Awesome video! algorithm recommended it but well worth the watch, and now subbed!
As for a different route, what about Manchester/Edinburgh, Oslo, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Rostock, Gdansk, Kaunas, Riga, Tallinn and finishing in Helsinki? and start at 00,01 and finish at 2359?
Aw, thanks, you’re very kind.
That’s a good idea. A lot of it depends what times people will serve me beer!
@@RobbieKnox10 might be stretching it but could cut a few cities to make it work.
The Baltic Beer run!
Quality. What a great video. New sub 👏
First time coming across your video. Seems like a really wholesome guy! 😁🍻
I’m actually really nasty and violent but kept in under control for this video.
@@RobbieKnox 😂😂😂 you are a funny chap! Love it x.
Upon careful planning, I have worked out you want to start in Belgium, then go Luxembourg, France, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, Slovenia then end in Croatia. 16 hours of driving, plenty of time to have 1 beer in each country
Well, that was fun! Knew you were gonna get Train troubles as soon as you entered Germany :D
Yeah, German trains have gone a bit downhill recently…
"Pure Drama" 😂 love this, first time viewer - here for this middle age magic
The Smiths "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable now" - is the sound of this video. Excellent.
Yeah, it’s that vibe.
Think with more thorough planning you'd be able to squeeze Denmark. I did leave London much later and managed to do London, lille, Bruxelles, Rotterdam and duisburg Germany before the midnight.
Would beer52 stretch to an 'around the world in 80 beers' follow up vid?
Will demand it from the marketing people!
What a great video. I love your cinematography and camera quality. P.S. Becky would have slowed you down!
Thanks - I filmed this on my DJI Osmo Pocket 3. It’s a great little camera for travel stuff.
Awesome video! American here and it's a shame its hard to experience other countries in a year, let alone in a single day!! Loved this video!
Content that raises the bar ;). I have a cheeky plan to smash this challenge though and easily get 10+ countries..... driving.
Someone else driving I hope!
Imagine being thr designated driver... all the work and no fun eyy
thats drinking commitment. I have done something like this starting from one end of the strip all way to downtown trying to have a couple of drinks in each place.
love the idea that Keir Starmer could've been subbed in for Bambino Becky in this vid
Quick Keir, there’s a train to Luxembourg!
He could have been
These are the travel challenges I live for! Awesome effort!
Thanks!
Incredible drama, had me on the edge of my seat right to the scintillating unexpected denouement.
You have a fabulous vocabulary.
It would be interesting to learn the cost of each beer. Which country's beer prices were the cheapest/ most expensive?
Yeah, good idea. Next time I’ll include that!
Got a 5.7% for beer #3 at 11am 😂 respect Robbie, surprised not to see Rocket and Gavin Henson on the sesh with you...
To be honest the beers were all so spaced out it wasn’t too bad. It would have been boozier if Becky was with me.
@RobbieKnox that's what I was thinking, I reckon 4 countries max if she was with you! If you're starting point wasn't england for the next one, you could probably do more.
like how close everything here is and I love that Europe is not just a one more big country. So good to be able to experience many cultures on just one piece of land
im currently feeling really really low about not being able to travel due to a chronic illness and crippling anxiety, so its nice to be able to live vicariously through a middle aged man on youtube.
Sorry to hear that! Glad my bleak drinking adventure helped though!
Nice TH-cam recommendation finally, chill vid bro, really liked it
