  • This is part 8 of the mig welding basics series. for a more detailed article on mig welding overhead go here goo.gl/lcg27W
    visit the weldmonger store weldmongerstore.com/
    Overhead Tee joint drill. This is a multipass Tee in overhead position. Overhead mig welding is done using pretty much the same way flat and overhead are done. Using almost the same settings.
    for this video, I set the machine to 20 volts and 300 inches per minute of wire speed using .035" of er70s6 wire.

    i'm going to share your videos with all of my welding classmates! i sat here and binge watched all of your basic MIG welding videos 1-8. it pretty much covered everything i learned in class the first week and gave me a better idea of what i'm supposed to be doing and looking for as well as how to adjust everything to make my beads better. i can't wait to watch the rest, thank you for these videos!!

    I can tell you for sure this man is a welder. I recently went through welding school at a blazing speed because I spent my spare time watching the videos and implementing the techniques immediately. I had familiarity with welding, but I went through 2G, 3G and 4G stick in two days. Freaked my audience out.....lol.

    I started welding in 1963. Here, some 51 years later, I still run across something I did not know. But I do know this, 90% of a good weld is knowledge and one helluva good machine. Ya gotta have both in your favor to do a good job. Never compromise on tool quality. Buy the best tools there are to offer. Cheap tools is never a good practice.

    • @godzilla51196
      @godzilla51196 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      raginroadrunner I was always told that you pay for a nice tool once from your walllet. You pay for a cheap tool every time you have to use it, but you pay with your sanity

    • @markuschampos5750
      @markuschampos5750 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Do not agree.. a cheap welder is better than no welder. Everybody has to start from somewere. I don't think they suddenly buy welders like 2-5000$.
      Learn welding with a cheap machine and then build up to a professional one.

    Thanks for this Jody! I'm running a motorcycle workshop for people with various disabilities who are looking to pick up meaningful job skills. We've got a pretty nice MIG machine powered by 380v but it's only ever used to bake stuff together in the ugliest way possible. Nothing mission-critical, don't worry. I've watched this series in one go. Very practical and to the point. Starting out with welding can be pretty overwhelming, but I feel like I at least know the very basics to set the machine and start practicing myself. Thanks again!

    Man you are legit. I weld for a living all day everyday MIG. 7 gauge 2” square tubing Mostly and I like your precise clear explanations. I tend to have most trouble with overheads. I look forward to trying some of these techniques tomorrow. Btw I’m running 26-28 volts and basically full speed on the wire. It’s production so it’s all about quantity. Thanks for the video

    Love your videos. You do great work!! I just wanted to say that when I ran overhead fillets with 0.45 at the ship yard I ran very hot but held a very hard push angle with zero weaving. It was 100s hard wire with 95/5 gas. I always had my tip flush with my barrel. I always found if I tried any sort of weave or dddnt push a hard angle I always had a bit of a lip on my bottom passes. I found this true especially if I was running 1/16 100s wire. But I always had great penetration!! Keep up the great videos!!!Pete Dellarma Maine

    Hey Jody, a couple things I'd like to see you touch on for your MIG series would be working with thicker, higher current wire. I use .052 every day and would like to see if you have any tips or tricks other than the widely used "whip back." Especially for tight corners. Another thing would be for tack filling gaps. Thanks again,

Then ended up going low voltage & drooping welds then cut welds with cutoff wheel to flatten butt weld. The comment about the wire to long having time to heat up become weak & do nothing - was really helpful. I can think these things - but when your under pressure & dont have time to think = thanks.
