51 year old Navy vet here, had a garage door business for 15 years, amateur welder for 20 years, going to welding school Jan 22. Good content ,good instruction. Thanks !!
My school sucks my teachers never went to detail about the distances and the pattern it needs I learn by asking everyone that’s more advance then me taught me a lil a about welding I felt like I’ve been doing all of this on my own but with you I feel more complete with the lessons and ways to weld right
Mr Jody, I would like to thank you personally for your video and experience. I am being trained (so-called train, we're just given scrap and told to weld - but we are on the clock so that's cool) on welding trailers. I wasn't getting the best consistency on my welds so I looked at your videos. They specifically said to push and whip with the wire, but I decided to use your method and pull instead. Instant change. Better control, better consistency, and I know the weld penetrated extremely well. Thanks a lot.
Thank you man I went to a free program for my weld certificate and they treated me with no care and little help so when I show up to these interviews I’m left in a blind spot about a lot of stuff but your whole page on TH-cam has been saving me
Thank you for making this! I attended welding school during high school, welded a few year and learned CNC (Mill). This brought EVERYTHING back! Thank you for helping people out here!
Jody now even my kids know you :)). What they don't know is how I came across you back in 2011 when I was struggling with purging some 16" stainless pipe for Harrods in London. with your tips and tricks I did a good job and bought a nice little car with that money :). Also learned from you how to do a vertical fillet MMa ... I should make in one day a list on how many things I learned from you . Basically that job started me off on deep sea, high pressure projects. So thanks a lot for teaching me how to make loads of money. Keep up the great work you do. God Bless you and your family.
EASILY the best welding tutorials on the internet... I have learned so much from this channel in just a few months and I'm actually not half bad based on the knowledge I got here! Thanks for making these!!!
Just a rookie here, sure like what I see. Practice is the key and I like you style of explaining the process with importance of good penetration over looks
New subscriber here... just want to say your content is so refreshing after watching so many ego driven welding instructionals!!! Everything is about function, practicality and efficiency and then you back it all up with science!!!Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!
I generally use the “v” technique for downhill, great penetration and clean controlled edges. I used to weld 11 gauge downhill mostly 12” at a time non structural so id play with settings and just make it pretty. Roughly 18 volts with a slower feed rate, never disappointed.
Hey Jody I bought my first welder about 3 weeks ago and tried to welding in my shop needless to say it didn't go so good but now with all your help I'm much better thanks man
To me you are the best youtube teacher welder. My welding students are crazy with your videos, even without understanding english, they use the automatic subtitled translator and It help them a lot. Your quality videos are improving since I become your fan long time ago. I think that you could increase your worlwide audience by adding some kind of overlap information in scientific notation(1/8"---3.2mm). The AWS Welding Handbook recomends to use scientific notation as a means of share knowledge arround the world. God job teacher!
Thank you so much for being slow with your teachings I'm a slow learner and a first time or a welder I appreciate you taking your time and explain things so I can understand that thank you hopefully I'll become an awesome Wilder like you again thank you
Gotta say the clarity on your videos has come a long way since I first found you in 2014 Jodie. Really impressed with your instuctional videos and am eagerly awaiting my tig finger in the post. Proud to support your habbit and thanks from UK
Jody , by the 2F weld why you go first up forward. (+ 3.04 min ) On the other side of the pond we learn always (I = 30 years ago) first go down forward because you can drag " dirt " under your weld. First down and than up to fill your undercut (banana shape movement ) Same when you weld from left to right you go anti clockwise by circle movement and never clockwise because you can drag " dirt " under your weld (imperfections or silicates ) But like always a good video = Best welding youtube channel
Love the video on this. The close up of the puddle and the graphic showing the pattern. Makes it very clear what is happening. You going to WBC this year?
Nice. Thank you! You teaching. My Miller 211. Side job's. Cha-ching$$$. I do restaurant stainless repair and non-structural homeowner stuff! But no automobile.
On the vertical up hill weld did you turn the setting down to the next welding thickness and go 10% less wire feed speed or just turn to the next lowest?
Love the videos! As well as the podcast! Could you possibly do a video on inner shield 233 wire. A lot of ironworkers struggle getting certified on this wire. And that’s the test that will certify all of our members on all flux core wire. Which is a the majority of all structural welds. I know hundreds of people I’ve met out in the field that watch your videos. It would help a lot of our members get more information on the wire. And welding with a drag angle on a verticals which is so strange lol. Thanks for the videos! Keep up the good work!
i have a question, that some trainers said That When I do welding I go from right side to left side. But except for the vertical, you have done it from left to right. Now which one is correct, sir?
I was trained as a repair welder fixing robot errors. I wasn't properly trained or certified. I practiced during break times so it looked like I was a natural when being trained. So they left me to wing it and figure it out on my own. It always passed inspection so I guess I did it right. I had to get a pacemaker so I had to end my welding career. I really wanted to get certified.
Thnx but not sure I understand how you can even see where your going pulling the weld with the nozzle in the way obscuring your path ahead.... ? see 3:03
Hello, I thank you very much for this valuable information in the field of welding and thank you again for drawing the graphic lines that illustrate the way the wire moves. I hope that there will be a translation into Arabic so that I understand what it says and learn from you more experience😘😘😘
At about the six minute mark when you changed the ground, you could really hear the machine just smooth out and sound great. I took your advice from one of your other videos and bought a one inch wide piece of copper braid. 👍
ifell3 you can buy a Klutch st80i tig welder for around $280 at Northern Tool. Plus $250 for argon bottle,$20 regulator (Amazon) and $10 filler wire. The welder comes with tungsten. It welds good to start you out.
ifell3 well the st80i is not AC so your stuck with mild steel and stainless. I can’t recall the duty cycle at the moment but it’s never stopped on me so far. I would also like a tig that could do aluminum as well.
Usually for overhead, I turn the wirespeed up a bit. Due to the fact that gravity will pull the weld down a little bit making it sag, so the higher wirespeed punches the weld up in the joint and keeps the weld flatter. Also, like he said gun angle is just as if not more important than wirespeed. Too much angle either way also affects the looks and penetration of the bead.
@@leonhough5932 Yes, I usually use the same settings for uphill as I do for overhead. You wanna punch into the joint and keep the weld as flat as possible.
Thanks for the video and sharing your experience. That's how we new people learn... I'm just a hobby welder, so I already have bought what I need from your online store. I will try to buy more in the future. Thanks again.

I like the yellow path visualization before you actually show the welding path.
For a rookie like me, it’s a great visual aid. 👍🏼👍🏼
Bret Lambky agreed. Somethings are verbally explained in videos but the yellow drawing makes the idea very clear.

I learned something new today.

Welding is how this Dad is gonna male the donuts. Dome a lot of lines of work, and welding is a proper trade.
Pls explain what is 1F 2F 3F 4F... 6:23 they all seem to look the same..no ?
Just type welding position in google search and you will get simple images that shows you the difference ... F stands for fillet welding
