- Are you trying to jailbreak? Maybe un-jailbreak? Or perhaps you are trying to reset your iPhone PIN without wiping the phone? Chances are you'll have to enter DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) or Recovery Mode. There are tons of tutorials on the net, but not very many of them actually work. This video will help you greatly to get your device in and out of DFU mode. Yes, it is possible!

Just want to say a massive thanks for explaining the difference between recovery mode and DFU mode. My fiancee's iPhone 4 failed whilst updating to iOS 6.1.3 which I think was either due to a corrupt update or lack of free space.
I tried numerous things on forums etc who just stated open iTunes and click on restore - which always came up with an error about unable to contact Apple update server.
I managed to get into DFU mode with your help and do a SHIFT+Restore using an .ipsw file. Big Thanks

omg i watched over 30 vids on how to get out of recovery mode it and your first 2 methods didnt work cuz it kept me in recovery mode but the 3rd method in the description did the job for me, i loveee youuuuuuu :D

How do you accidentally enter DFU mode?
It's been 7 years and I don't remember the process of either recovery mode or DFU but I would assume I probably entered the wrong mode trying to jailbreak my iPod Touch 4th Gen
@@LunarMusician lmao 7 years later, to enter DFU mode on the touch 4th gen you hold the power + home button for 10 sec and then home button for 8 sec so kinda hard to accidentally enter DFU mode
@@moneymoney122 Once again, this is speculation as to what I probably did to get myself in that mess. Unless I'm mistaken, one of the processes in jailbreaking that generation of iPods was to enter recovery mode. Memory says the process was similar. If not, I probably just did something stupid to get myself in that mess but it fits the time frame

It didn't get me out of recovery mode. It still keeps on coming to it.
See the problem with my phone is that i never connected this new phone to my computer because i had to update my itunes. I never did until now because i had to. So in order to turn my phone back on, do i have to restore? I would if i don't lose my pics.

Doesn't work for me. I was trying to enter dfu mode and it entered recovery mode. I did this 5 times and it entered recovery mode every time. Please help!!!

Natalie Lydia It's bricked, you're going to have to get it repaired, the OS is corrupted, only way to fix that is to manually reconfigure the iPod. There are some services that MIGHT help you, so go ahead and google, how to fix a bricked iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Plug ur iDevice into iTunes and then hold down the home and power buttons until it doesnt display the device and then boot it up as usual(hold power button). worked for me!

you might have fixed it by now, but ill try to help. Download redsn0w, hit extras when it starts, and there should be an option to fix recovery loop or something like that.

My ipod touch 4g is stuck in recovery mode and itunes won't let me recover (3014 error). Can't get out of this, have tried everything I can find online without success :(
Figured it out. Had to go into task manager to close parts of my security software that didn't shut down, even when the program is exited. It's updating now.

My phone (iphone 4) was interrupted mid-update and that is stopping from turning on my phone. I've tried to get my photos off my phone but I'm struggling to because my lock screen button is broken and when it's plugged into my computer it just remains on the connect to itunes screen. It's either that or it goes into the loop of turning off and on. Can you help me out?

I am and my iPhone is fucked up... I got the "iPhone is disabled connect to iTunes" BS and i tried fixing it myself but I somehow entered recovery mode and when i try downloading apps to fix my 1st problem, it says that i must NOW get out of recovery mode... SMFH This is a bad 24 hour for me...

We always used to joke that DFU mode stood for "Done Fucked Up" Mode. Mainly because if you needed to use it something had gone horribly wrong with the device and it needed completely wiping

But, imagine - I have dropped it when I dozed off in my bed, it landed flat on its back (a bit less than half a meter) and the screen went black. I did not know about it then, but now I know, that it was "jolted" into DFU mode. So I was then able to solve it by watching your video. Thanx a million - and keep up the good work!

Snazzy Labs, I hope you see this. Around 3:59, you said you cannot downgrade using Recovery Mode but you can. I updated my iPad Mini to iOS 8 using recovery mode so I would be able to select the iOS 8 ipsw file I wanted to use to perform the upgrade. When I wanted to return back to iOS 7, 7.1.2 was the version that was being signed at the moment and still is, I went into recovery mode and usually when you press the "restore my device" button, iTunes is meant to revert your device back to the most recent system software but it got stuck on the popup window "contacting the iPad server". So, I pressed the alt button + clicked the restore button, simultaneously, and I had the option to pick which ipsw file I wanted to restore to, in this case I was downgrading from iOS 8 to iOS 7.1.2. Ofcourse I had already downloaded the 7.1.2 ipsw file for my iPad 4,4 Mini. In short, it is possible to perform both an upgrade and a downgrade by pressing the alt button + clicking the restore button simultaneously for Mac and for Windows I think its the Ctrl button and clicking the restore button, and selecting the specific ipsw file one wants to restore (downgrade/upgrade) to.
