How To Put An iPhone In DFU Mode & DFU Restore Your iPhone!

- In this video, a former Apple tech shows you how to put an iPhone into DFU mode. Then, we demonstrate how to perform a DFU restore on an iPhone 7, but the steps in this video work for all models of the iPhone, with one catch:
On iPhone 6s or earlier, you press and hold the home button with the power button. On the iPhone 7 or later, you perform a DFU restore using the volume down button instead.
Important correction for PC users: To manually choose a file to restore from using iTunes, hold Shift and click "Restore iPhone". We said to hold "Alt" by mistake in the video. We apologize for any confusion!

To put an iPhone into DFU mode, plug it into your laptop and open iTunes. Next, press and hold the power button and the volume down button (iPhone 7 and later) or the Home button (iPhone 6s and earlier) for 8 seconds.
After 8 seconds, release the power button and wait until iTunes says, “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.” At this point, let go of the volume down button or Home button. Your iPhone’s display should be completely back. If it doesn’t start from the beginning.
Now, restore your iPhone using iTunes, either by allowing iTunes to install the latest version of iOS, or by using an iOS firmware version downloaded from this website: ipsw.me/#!/pla...
Wait for the status bars to complete, then set your iPhone up again or restore from a backup! This process can take several minutes, so be patient!

You actually saved my time with this video. Even Apple Care with 104 minutes chat and 45 minutes phone call found nothing. I had no phone and they told me: Please wait 48 to 72 hours for a answer. Cleaning the power port was the problem with my daughter Iphone 5c ... I was actually not that mad because she paid for it (not me) and I told her she was responsible the device .... today it wouldn't charge and she tried to give me the "Please dad save me tears" so before taking it to a phone store something told me to visit "TH-cam" this was the first shot in the dark and it worked first time ... I tried Just today, click on home button and Lock button for 8-9 secs it shuts down and turns on and done

THANK YOU!!!! Had a full storage glitchy phone and offloaded everything I could think of, nothing worked. Did the DFU reset, now have about 20 gigs free space and when backed up from iTunes, even the apps I offloaded came back
After watching several video's on youtube this was the only one with the correct steps. Worked on iphone 6 perfectly. The key was letting go of the power button after 5 seconds. Like others have stated, I did get the "unknown error (9)" on the first attempt. After starting over, the restore was successful on the second attempt. Thanks guys!

Payette Forward I done this with my iPhone 6 yesterday and now can't get it to restore it keeps saying your iPhone couldn't be updated error 9 I have tried it about 10 times but it does say it has detected a iPhone in DFU Mode so it's in the correct mode before I done all of that I updated iTunes to the newest version any help would be appreciated

Its Not ALT key on Win 10. It Is SHIFT key for recovery from downloaded file

Thank you so much guys. I have just completed this task with an i phone A1429.I am not a tech person and I do not even have i tunes. I even had to download i tunes on my PC to do the process. I followed all of your instructions both verbally and visually and got it done. Very clear and accurate guidance. Even the part when it did not work in the video showed how you worked it out. Hello. My iphone5 sound suddenly stopped working. Thanks for your info. (the power button on the top, also stopped working long ago. So your DFU instructions were impossible. So, instead, I did the 'reset' via the settings app.) The sound works again now. Whew! I did not want to purchase a new phone!

My iPhone 6s Plus is stuck on the blacl screen with just the Apple logo. I have NO iCloud or iTunes backup (My iTunes backup died 2 months ago with my PC's hard drive) and have 39,447 photos that literally run from my daughter's birth to my father's funeral. is there ANY WAY POSSIBLE to get these items off my phone or backup the phone while it's in this condition?!?!? i accidentally plugged out the iphone when the software update was downloading on the computer and it is still downloading normally...so should i start the process again or let it happen....plz respond
My phone's problem is it restarts every now and then to the point I can't really use it anymore. This was my only hope. It made into dfu mode but once its extraction reached halfway it would restart then it won't be recognized anymore. Tried so many times but it just keeps repeating. Thanks for the video anyway! I know you helped many iphone users :)

Needed to do a DFU on a phone I got second hand 11 pro max. My old phone was runing iOS 16, but the phone restored to iOS14. I had to then set it up enough to update it to 16 before I could restore from my macbook.
It's 4:45am...I can't believe I've been at it since 2am. I should have searched for a solution the 2nd time my phone didn't restore the easy way. Awesome fix guys!!! I'm definitely subscribing...now if only there was as easy a solution for my ex...LOL

they forgot to mention (or maybe I missed it) that this only works if the iOS version you're trying to install on your phone is "signed" by apple. VERY frustrating that apple only signs the latest version of iOS!
Hey guys :) I have an iphone 5c that my big brother gave me and he disconnected it from his icloud and everything and its stuck in reboot. I have tried the DFU mode and iphone reads the phone, takes me through the steps....I followed the whole video. Selected the GSM firmware and for some reason its still stuck in reboot. I'd appreciate any thoughts! Also, my brother said he took really good care of it and isnt really sure why it would be having problems so I thought I'd ask. Thanks again!
Does this revert it to the last backup? My goal is to get it to a place where I can back it up even though the screen is unresponsive.

I bought a new aftermarket charger cable 3-4 months ago as my original IPhone 6S was excessively frayed. In the past few months I had my battery replaced as it showed poor Health in Battery Settings/Status. This time phone would not charge once connected with new cable (on computer or on power outlet with power outlet). I tried a new IPhone charger from family member and it charges just fine. So, here it is the cable or power outlet adapter. I suspect that it's the power adapter outlet because I had had success bypassing it charging in the car. At the same time, I feel there may be a problem with the new long 6 foot cable as well since it would not charge from computer. It is rather weird. However I can keep the phone for a few more months now.
what do i do if my phone restarts before it finishes extracting the software in recovery mode? So it never actually restores.
my issue is my iphone keeps rebooting itself so its unusable at the moment.

in a previous video i watched from you guys, you a link for last option to fix a charging issue. You mentioned 4 issues that could cause why your phone would not charge. Last option was here. You never explained anything about what you would need to do if the phone would not turn on from not charging in this video.

Warning! if you use a Windows computer to reset your Iphone. You have to make sure, that computer have one USB 1.x or 2.x. Otherwise your computer doesn't support this USB-Gate, you will get Error with Itunes when you reset your Iphone in DFU mode with USB 3.x . Be careful! Because new laptop now doesn't support USB 1x or 2x anymore. I have experienced this many times. So make sure you check it twice, my friends!

Here's my problem😕 I reset all my settings and data on my jail broken phone cause I thought that it would fix it and remove all the jail broken stuff but I was wrong. I actually had to delete all the stuff in Cydia but I didn't know that at the time and now I'm on my current problem, the cydia and all my jail broken apps are still on my phone and I can't get rid of them, they said I could fix my phone by going into DFU mode and restoring it. Is this true?

Hi Carlos, here's what Apple says about error 9: support.apple.com/en-us/HT201444 - But what you should do is to try DFU restoring your iPhone with a different cable using iTunes on a friend's computer. After the DFU restore finishes and you see 'Hello' on the screen, pull your iPhone right out of their computer and set it up however you like.

Thank you guys. I had an issue with touch screen with my iphone 6 - it was freezing sometimes. I restored phone. Now I am monitoring. if this does not help I will remove screen protector, restore next time as a new phone otherwise this is hardware issue and I need go to service:(

SR2015 Yes, that same night I found a 12.0.1 IPSW download from iCrackuriDevice’s channel and used that to update my firmware.
Used a thin needle gently to unstick button.

followed your DFU instructions (thanks) on my daughter's second iPhone. Didn't realise she had her old Apple ID attached to it. She doesn't remember her old ID. Any suggestions. Have tried the Apple support app and all the combinations but without the ID, I seem to have reached the end of the road.

2. Hold power and home for 8 seconds, release power button first
