- As promised the FMS PA-18 1300mm Super Cub radio setup and other issues I have found about this plane. IF YOU WANT ALL THE FEATURES OF THE REFLEX AND REVERSE THRUST YOU MUST HAVE A & CHANNEL RECEIVER!!!!!

Thank you so much for this video. I just received my PA-18 and so it made setting it up straightforward. For a relative newbie to the hobby you explain things so clearly and with so much detail that it makes it so much easier to understand what is otherwise a daunting set of wired connections. btw, I have several FMS planes and find the Reflex V2 system really helpful - it's saved at least one of my planes from a nasty nose dive when I lost control. Just flicked the switch, and voila, it got me out of a downward spiral. That said, I am increasingly aware that I am perhaps over reliant on it and should try 'manual' more often to develop my flying skills. But as I don't have any flying clubs nearby and cant get mentoring from experts like yourself, I have to rely on youtube videos. Anyway, thanks again and keep posting videos!

Excellent video! I have just bought this little 1.3 by using Spectrum DX6 (rx ar 620). I eliminated the reflex and set up all directly to AR 620 and worked fine with reverse. Tks for all tips! rgds

Still a Newb here. I wanted this plane until I started checking running Weights. I have visited both RC Clubs in my area and That's a NOGO. I live and play under the Umbrella of controlled air space. I'm familiar with the in's and out's of flying Quad rotor UAS. I will not be going the > 250 gram and needing RID..
Then that really sucks for you there. I wish the clubs could have helped you out.

I have the pnp version of the plane and used my own receiver a d transmitter. So I am afraid I can't tell you for sure what that switch is,sorry

I just bought an NX8 hope I don't have any trouble with it!! If I do I'd use my RadioMaster TX16S which would work with spektrum receivers
Just keep the throws dialed way down below 60% and it wont be so touchy then.
nice plane. love my 1700mm. btw if you use a forward programming spectrum rx you only need 6 channels and have full use as long as you remove reflex gyro and use it like a normal spectrum rx
I know but I wanted to show the reflex use to newer pilots.

What a wonderful video. I just purchased the FMS PA-18 Piper Cub and your video contained many little tips that made setting it up relatively simple. During the set up, I discovered that a servo operating one of the flaps was defective. I have ordered a replacement and I was wondering if you knew where to get the white tape that seals the wire raceway on the wing? Once I replace the servo, the raceway will be open. Thanks again for what you do for all of us
You do not have to replace the tape just peel it back and carefully put it back with a little foam tac or any foam safe glue . Can't go wrong with the 'tried and true' DX series of transmitters! Just my opinion!
Well my DX9 stands ready with my models loaded at any time. Now I am using my NX10 since HH sent me out a complete new one at no charge but I have the DX9 as a reliable back up. To be honest I would have rather HH given me my money back and I would just use my DX9.
Great video! I like to setup my reverse thrust but I can't find the 2 lead signal wire that you mentioned. Is it coming from the ESC or did you use a different ESC that comes with an extra signal wire?
It is the little single yellow wire off the esc. Plug into top signal port of the channel you choose.assign port to 2 position switch.
Hello from a subscriber. Thanks for all your coverage. I have been flying mine for a couple of weeks and it is sweet. However, I had to disconnect the reverse thrust because it kept reversing in mid-air as well as cutting in on the ground for no apparent reason. Do you have any experience or advice on this issue? Thanks again.
Sounds like a loose connection. I have had no issue with mine. Sorry I cannot advise.
Can you be more specific on where the wing lights plug in please?
They only need power , you can plug them into your bind port if you don't have a free port.
Can you use a y-cable to power the thrust reverse and use all functions with a 6 channel reciever
No the thrust reverse must have its own dedicated channel.
I really like this plane. I think I'd be fine with the Reflex stabilization and reverse thrust option. I'd love to get floats on it and reverse thrust will definitely come in handy out on the river.
For now, I'm looking forward to my UMX Timber X arriving later this week.

I have a FMS PA18 Super Cub 1.7m, new to me and set up with an AR631 an my NX8. Can the stock ESC be set up with thrust reverse on this equipment, do you know?
No I dont believe it does unless there is a little yellow wire of the ESC. If so plug that into a signal or top port on your receiver in an open channel and assign it to a switch.
Can you possibly help me with a throttle calibration issue I'm having with the RTF version of this?
I'm totally stumped. I've followed the calibration instructions exactly - transmitter on, throttle stick up, then plug in ESC. After two beeps, throttle stick down. I've tried variations of this, differing timing, turning off and on all the electronics - nothing. Everything works just as it should. It just simply won't calibrate. I have about 30% dead stick no matter what I do.
Interestingly enough! If I reverse the throttle (so that stick down is full throttle and stick up is dead) with the transmitter reversal switch, I can completely eliminate the dead stick. But when the throttle is the correct way, it comes back. I tried plugging in the esc to the receiver in different ways. It's the same problem in every channel - 30% dead stick.

Make sure your throttle cut is at -100% first then try it at - 130% honey keep rising from a -130% until the motor starts then that is your new throttle cut off point and then calibrate from there.
I wonder if you can buy that same ESC as a replacement, I can't seem to find any esc like that with a separate yellow wire for a reverse.
Hobby King makes them. Get the one in the Tundra.
I can see the tundras have esc's with reverse, but I can find where that esc can be purchased by itself
What is the toggle switch for on the top left of the transmitter?
For me, it is my gear switch. Are you asking about the rtf transmitter you can get with the rtf version of this plane?
I am confused on how to get the 3 levels of the reflex because when I plug the yellow wire into my receiver it only does reverse thrust and I can’t change it. Do you know how to fix this?
The yellow wire is for reverse yes there should be another wire that may say gyro or sbus this is for the three levels. To get everything this plane offers you need at least 7 channels.
Lived most of my flying hobby without Reverse thrust - so I would opt to not have it.....
I want to get this one but so far its not available here in the UK - My NX8 broke within a week - the quality of the NX range is dreadful - my DX9 is so much better so now I have a repaired NX8 as a standby and my DX9 Black is my Main TX...
Well I sent my NX 10 off to Horizon and I must have gotten a virus or something onto my flash drive chip and it worked havoc on the brain of my NX10. They completely renewed it, full diagnostic and has it on its way back to me free of charge. I will still be cautious about it until I regain my trust in it. I will be using both my DX9 and the Nx10 separately on different groups of planes until I am satisfied it is good. Basically I will fly cheaper or older planes on the NX10 until I am good with it.
i just bought one been watching lots vids its got a 3536 850kv motor 40amp esc 11x7 prop , if i run it on 4s can i drop the prop to a 11x5 or 10x6 my 3 s packs only last like 5 mins and its a pita taking 10 of em to the park i got some real nice 4s packs would last longer if i wont burn anything ?
Get your self infrared temp device and keep an eye on the esc. As long as the es. Does not get too jot you should be ok.keep it in your po ket and test at landing immediately. I believe 140 degrees is thermal shut down so need to run well below that.
@@FatGuyFliesRC yeah cool its coming i got a inline amp meter ill try aswell i knew the motor should be ok where they put the esc in these looks like you have to cut the nose off to change or even locate the wire
Can you stuff a 4s Pack into that battery compartment?
A very flat one but I am unaware if it is rated for 4s.
What wheels I have to buy for fms kingfisher? The stock are very hard.
I would go with the Eflite Timber wheels.

no this is a 3s only plane. it may physically fit but why push it.
@@FatGuyFliesRC I mostly got 4s packs, therefore I may use an ESC that I got left and adjust the throttle kurve. I would save a lot of money. Thanks for the fast reply!

I agree but a lot of people do so I use them to explain their use. Not on all my planes but on some.
may i suggest that you write a script first as this just left me confused and thinking that this is very difficult

Not a fan of FMS after getting this model in the mail. What a terrible set of instructions.
They complete left out the reverse function.
