Blazing Sunsteel's equip cost makes a lot more sense once you realize it goes infinite with Brash Taunter... like the Godo + Helm combo, it can't be cheap in terms of mana.
Theme-wise though, Blazing Sunsteel is the weapon on Wyleth's hand in the artwork. So, making it a little difficult for him to equip without the enablers just feels uninspired. It should've had something like Nazahn and his hammer.
It must be his haircut, it's the only part of his picture that looks remotely feminine. Or maybe he was a she when they were testing Commander Legends at WotC :P Still, shows who doesn't read flavour text on cards! Blazing Sunsteel makes reference to Wyleth by "his".
I was SUPER excited about this commander. I don’t love the way they prebuilt it though, my sun forget package is only 10 instants. The way I built it is a little more expensive though, using Hammer of Nazahn, puresteel paladin, Zirda the Dawnwaker and sigardas aid for cheating equip costs, then Heavenly Baldemaster as a potential backup plan for when Wyleth has been killed four times and is not longer castable
I'm a little sad that they ignored Open the Armory and Puresteel Paladin. Puresteel is an awesome card for any equipment deck. Granted it's a little more expensive, but only about $3 more than steelshaper's gift.
Jake and Joel are magic did an upgrade video and they included both those cards. I know this because I ordered one of each of those to use to upgrade the deck. Also Stoneforge Mystic, even though it isn’t budget. 😁
I think you guys underestimate sword of vengeance. It's clunky and slow for a 8/10 deck or above, which this deck really isn't. Even after the suggested upgrades is a 5/10 or maybe 6/10 if you're generous. The oomph that the sword gives is really valuable for casual play
puresteel paladin is the card I thought of that I'm surprised you guys didn't mention. Not sure what I'm going to do with this deck. I could try and beef up a Wyleth deck, or scrap it for parts for an Akiri or even Syr Gwyn deck. I need to figure out who I want to actually make my equipment commander
@@robertcales8544 In your experience do you get to cast Syr Gwyn every game? I tried her brawl precon and well. It didn't impress but I know commander is a different animal
@@Antare5 In commander, I have always been able to play Syr Gwyn at least once a game. One important thing is to keep all the ramp in and get cheap equipment (mana cost wise, equip costs are circumvented most of the time).
I could be wrong, but I think flickerwisp was in there to shift around an aura from one creature to another if needed. Not a great add, but I think by that was the thought process.
Flickerwisp is in the deck to "reequip" auras to other creatures when they come back to the field. I guess it's there to be able to reattach auras to Wyleth if you've played them on something else first, but with so few targets to use this effect it is indeed a head scratcher. You can also flick your opponents stuff, but you wouldn't really run that card just for that. Tho, I'm happy they are keeping it's price low with reprints.
@@mondananikoukari8928 Not really extra. The biggest downside to Aura's is not being able to move them around and when the creature dies, the aura goes away. This allows you to negate one of those negatives in a deck with heavy auras. There are few other things that allows you to move auras around in boros. So in a precon that isn't supposed to be tier 6-10 out of the box, this provides surprising utility. It can also flicker one of your own creatures that has, let's say, a pacify on it and in a deck focused on one or two suited up creatures that can be useful.
You can use this deck for additional pieces to the Jirina commander deck from earlier this year. Lots of synergy to boost the soldiers that are gonna swing it.
@@bobbye4369 prince can't remove a commander until the end of turn though. Flickerwisp is vastly more useful than almost all players realise. I played Eldrazi and taxes for a long time, and flickerwisp is pretty much one of the strongest cards due to the insane plays it can set up, especially with a wasteland strangler 👹
Some card i wish they would have included that aren’t tons of money, but would have fit well. Sad robot, sword of animist, relic seeker, shadowspear, Leonin Shikari, Mesa enchantress
I just thought of it now but you could sing "It's ain't a scene it's an arms race" of Fall Out Boy and now I'm sad you didn't Still a great job you provided us, big thanks to you guys
Ok this my opinion I love the show but I prefer people get dragon shield sleeves instead ultra pro just sticks to much and it gets worse but I switched to dragon shield and I love them and the feel and they really show the art of my deck there just all around amazing
I think flickerwisp was put in to move auras around. Granted, it's completely outclassed by the new white partner, but it targets any permanent, so that seems the most likely reason.
I just played this earlier today and Flickerwisp was actually useful. My opponent had the new simic deck, so his creatures were three times the size of mine and Flickerwisp was my only flyer. Also, it allowed me to flicker Oreskos Explorer twice for extra ramp. I expect to break this one down and file it. If I were upgrading, based on how that first game went, the first thing I'd add would be Leonin Abunas.
oreskos explorer isn't ramp. it just searches in your hand. but for 4 mana and the restriction that you have to be behind for it to do anything, it should put at least one on the field
just spitballing here: what would you say is a new and interesting angle and direction for boros they should take the colours in?? Besides always combat + equipment and fixing their card draw and ramp.
I've been designing a Boros commander deck trying to come up with some unique angles that fit the colour pie. The general theme I picked is: "Things which buff when an opponent controls 6+ lands" That's a white-like effect but the bonuses will be a mixture like a red card that buffs your creatures' power by the number of lands an opponent controls above 6. Card advantage, combat bonuses, etc. gained in a kind of "levelling the playing field" way but with the combat bonuses being the most efficiently costed. It's also got a fitting ramp card: -- Bushfire 2WRR - rare - sorcery Choose an opponent. Destroy target land they control. For each land destroyed both you and the land's controller search their libraries for a basic mountain or plains card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. If an opponent controls 6 or more lands then instead do this for each opponent.
If split second is on the stack, nothing that uses the stack can go onto the stack until it resolves. So no sacrifice in response but you can morph in response!
I actually like this deck a lot and thats mainly because if I want to build a Boros equipments deck this gives me a proper base for the theme. What I mean by that is that it really doesn't have to many "second best" options. you get the swords to plowshares, the boros charm, sunforger, sigardas aid, generous gift, wear/tear etc. Any card I don't have to switch is a + in my book and this was my problem with the last naya deck because obuun plays differently from the naya style the 99 enforced. with this base I can also start building Ardenn/rograkh etc. whereas with obuun I almost felt I had to switch commanders
Going to give the deck a shot after I adjust it. Removing 4 lands to start and putting in Nahiri, heir to the ancients. 11 creatures is just to little so adding her for some free blockers. Also maybe adding Rings of Brighthearth
Played it out of the box and I must say, the ability to double drop lands in the command zone on top of the 'Landfall - Draw 1' is a lot more impactful than one might guess. And yes, 44 lands in the deck is *not* too many.
@@aaronpyrez1573 in fact they do not, they're just basing simic around the best things green and blue respectively does, ramp and card draw that is, which are infamous to be the best things you can hope for in a commander game, so every commander they're making following this logic will instantly be better than most other legends.
The only problem with the simic deck is its slow out the gate. If you were to smooth out the curve a little bit, add a few more landfall cards and maybe azusa, and yeah it'd be great.
@@spudster8887 This was my experience too. Both games I played with it went like this: Shields down until turn 4 or 5, by this time I'm at about 25 life, then I get my commander out and 1-2 turns later everyone is wondering how I'm playing three 6 or 7 drops a turn. The deck doesn't have any mana doublers btw.
@@therealax6 I am guessing that they first realized it, when they had already shot it all, and were doing the editing. Could have made a note I guess...
Flicker wisp is in the deck in order to flicker the creature that might block and kill the commander. I know it is stupid but it is probably the reason why it is in
Flickerwisp has to be in the deck in order to flicker your own Auras so that you can move them among your creatures. Honestly, it is garbage in this deck though (even for that purpose), and the fact that Auras need it to shift them makes them easy removals from the deck too.
I kinda wanna put Kemba Kha Regent and the other "when this creature is equipped get a thing" leonin cards. That and some of the jankier red stuff like deretti, faithless looting and other red draw might make this deck go smoother. I also wanna put open the armory as an additional tutor... all in all despite its drawbacks I think im gonna try this deck out
me and my brother say keep blazing sunsteel the same but it costs 1 and a hybrid boros have either the hammer of nezahn effect to auto equip equipment or have an effect when it deals combat damage to an opponent you gain mana of one color equiped creature’s color identity equal to the damage.
flickerwisp has some synergy with dualcaster mage, kor cartographer, Oreskos Explorer, unqestioned Authority, faith unbroken or Ironclad slayer where you could decide what you need at that time but it is not the deck that you will think about putting it.

He's transitioning 😂
@@Areinu same haircut as Killmonger in Black Panther
Well, I was looking for a low level commander deck, this way I can have multiple decks of varying powers for different playgroups.
Would tenza, godos maul and puresteel Paladin be good in the deck
Puresteel paladin definitely would be. Tenza maybe not as much.
@@jacobjensen7704 true
I finally watched the new Mulan. Cool to see you there.
yeah it was
Single combat is a pretty good wipe for voltron decks
@@joshuamartin9707 I have both in my wyleth deck. They provide good consistency that boros otherwise lacks
? purestell is only like three dollars
I think you guys underestimate sword of vengeance. It's clunky and slow for a 8/10 deck or above, which this deck really isn't. Even after the suggested upgrades is a 5/10 or maybe 6/10 if you're generous. The oomph that the sword gives is really valuable for casual play
Find a spot for reconnaissance. It’s perfect for the commander
One of the first cards I got out of a Zendikar Rising booster was a full art Nahiri Heir of the Ancients. Going to be buying this to slide her in
I think you all should play these upgraded pre-cons on Game Knights. Maybe have an episode where you play with the last 4 decks you have upgraded?
They could base it off EDHRec average decks or something as a baseline. Or attach a value cap to it.
Well there is also the white uncommon legendary which lets u attach auras and equipments for free at the beginning of combat, he would fit!
puresteel paladin is the card I thought of that I'm surprised you guys didn't mention.
Not sure what I'm going to do with this deck. I could try and beef up a Wyleth deck, or scrap it for parts for an Akiri or even Syr Gwyn deck. I need to figure out who I want to actually make my equipment commander
Syr Gwyn is best because you can choose whether to go wide with lots of Knights, or just buff Syr Gwyn.
I really enjoy my Syr Gwyn deck. I highly recommend her 😁
@@robertcales8544 In your experience do you get to cast Syr Gwyn every game? I tried her brawl precon and well. It didn't impress but I know commander is a different animal
Do Ardenn + Rograhk or Akiri. Or go with Zendikar Akiri.
@@Antare5 In commander, I have always been able to play Syr Gwyn at least once a game. One important thing is to keep all the ramp in and get cheap equipment (mana cost wise, equip costs are circumvented most of the time).
I picked up both decks this weekend and I think this will be the one I build. Although I already have 2 Voltron decks built in Sram and Syr Gwen.
With flickerwisp, you can flicker an aura onto another creature.
Still it feels kind of extra, just add in something better.
It can also flicker one of your own creatures that has, let's say, a pacify on it and in a deck focused on one or two suited up creatures that can be useful.
but like these decks only cost like 15-20 bucks,. why is the reprint cost being 5x the cost of the product a problem.
35:00 something i'd like to point out to people about this card is it'll trigger any creature with effects like Infect, Deathtouch, and Lifelink
Possible synergy with Blazing Sunsteel, Inquisitor's Flail. Equipped creature does double damage but takes double damage
Oh snap
You can use this deck for additional pieces to the Jirina commander deck from earlier this year. Lots of synergy to boost the soldiers that are gonna swing it.
Is there a reason that open the armory isn't mentioned? Seems like a perfect fit and cheaper than steelshaper's gift.
I found a creature this deck needs. Champion of the flame, 1/1 trample for 1 and a red, he gets a +2/2 for each aura and equipment attached to it.
I think flickerwhisp is in there for if they steal your commander you could flicker it back to your side of the battlefield
Charming Prince would be a better replacement then, since you can bounce back if it's stolen, or use the Scry or lifegain as needed.
Yup
Relic seeker is in the deck
Sword of the animist and Shadowspear are like £7-12 each
I just thought of it now but you could sing "It's ain't a scene it's an arms race" of Fall Out Boy and now I'm sad you didn't
Still a great job you provided us, big thanks to you guys
song kinda looses it flow without the "GODDAMN" lyric in there tho...
Ok this my opinion I love the show but I prefer people get dragon shield sleeves instead ultra pro just sticks to much and it gets worse but I switched to dragon shield and I love them and the feel and they really show the art of my deck there just all around amazing
Greetings humans, you have entered the fun zone. Your destination for all aspects of fun and games highlander. Enjoy your stay. Oh we will don't worry
Thank you! With every bone, down to the marrow, thank you for not singing.
👍👍👍
I think flickerwisp was put in to move auras around. Granted, it's completely outclassed by the new white partner, but it targets any permanent, so that seems the most likely reason.
(37:40) You can also put in Stonehewer Giant, he's only $6.99. 😎👍
I'm surprised you did not include Mask of Memory in your list. While you do have to land damager to your opponent, draw 3 discard 1 is pretty good.
I think you guys missed Ardenn, Intrpid Archeaoligist. It solves a LOT of the problems.
There is a bunch of other sorceries that cost 2 mana that search for equipment. Open the armory is an example and it finds auras too
But the Giant cheats cast AND equip costs, provides a body to be equiped and is reusable.
Dragon Shield sleeves for the win!
just spitballing here: what would you say is a new and interesting angle and direction for boros they should take the colours in?? Besides always combat + equipment and fixing their card draw and ramp.
Blowing up lands?
I always though Feather along with Firesong and Sunspeaker were interesting Boros directions for Commanders.
I've been designing a Boros commander deck trying to come up with some unique angles that fit the colour pie. The general theme I picked is:
"Things which buff when an opponent controls 6+ lands"
That's a white-like effect but the bonuses will be a mixture like a red card that buffs your creatures' power by the number of lands an opponent controls above 6. Card advantage, combat bonuses, etc. gained in a kind of "levelling the playing field" way but with the combat bonuses being the most efficiently costed.
It's also got a fitting ramp card:
-- Bushfire
2WRR - rare - sorcery
Choose an opponent. Destroy target land they control. For each land destroyed both you and the land's controller search their libraries for a basic mountain or plains card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. If an opponent controls 6 or more lands then instead do this for each opponent.
great video and great comments too. I really need to upgrade this deck xD

YEET! omg your ads are absolutely phenomenal
Simic deck doesn't even need an upgrade guide its good enough as is
Yeah, cause as always they need to push Simic SUPER hard!
Both games I played with it went like this:
Shields down until turn 4 or 5, by this time I'm at about 25 life, then I get my commander out and 1-2 turns later everyone is wondering how I'm playing three 6 or 7 drops a turn. The deck doesn't have any mana doublers btw.
Flickerwisp might be in the deck to reattach auras?
well spotted
Only thing I could think of
Bludgeon brawl is great if you are playing smothering tithe, or play a lot of mana rocks.
Is it just me, or did someone else cringe when Josh multiple times call the deck Arm for Combat, when it's clearly labeled Arm for Battle?
I couldn't believe they kept getting it wrong!
Flicker DualCaster Mage for an extra ETB effect also. Still not that great though.
Hey guys, just wanted to be "that guy", and remind Jimmy that Wyleth is male.
Bought this commander deck for £10 on sale, I'm determined to make this work.
flickerwisp has some synergy with dualcaster mage, kor cartographer, Oreskos Explorer, unqestioned Authority, faith unbroken or Ironclad slayer where you could decide what you need at that time but it is not the deck that you will think about putting it.
