I find that the Beetlejuice make-up suits Michael Keaton's face even better now that he has a few more years on him. One could say that he's gotten beetlejuicier.

While other actors may have mixed feelings about that sentiment, something tells me that Keaton would be at the very least amused if not pleased to hear someone say that he is 'beetlejucier.' Haha.

It's good to see you genuinely enthused about a sequel. I liked it but as with most teasers there isn't enough to judge more than that. I'd say the reason why we love Beetlejuice and think he's fun is because we're safe, we're behind the protection of our screens. An in-universe Beetlejuice is evil, he isn't fun to those who suffer by him.

My thoughts on seeing this was like "Here's the bridge, here's the original characters, here's the house, here's the model. Aside from Lydia's daughter, there is nothing new here."
Now, it is just a teaser and not a full theatrical trailer, but still. I'm very iffy after seeing this. It looks like nostalgia-bait, and until I see something that suggests there's more to it, I'm going to be on the fence.

    • @kriscynical
      @kriscynical 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Well, I mean... if it's supposed to be a direct sequel, don't you kind of _want_ the locations and characters to be the same? It's a continuation of their story. 🤷‍♀️
Even the teaser poster is of his hands holding that long paper of his waiting room number, with the release date 09,06,24 between his thumbs. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where the movie picks up... his number FINALLY being called. lol

I remember watching the animated series all the time when I was a kid so I am stoked about this. lol
I haven't finished the video yet to know if you mention this/know about it, but Tim Burton actually refused to use CGI for this in favor of the OG stop motion animation for the special effects specifically so it would have the same look/feel of the original movie, and that is just AMAZING to me. Actually if you look at the title card and pay attention to the title itself splitting into two, it has that slightly jerky feeling of stop motion animation which is just such a cool little touch, imo!

Beetlejuice is definitely the villain in the musical, its just the plot between Lydia and her dad that everyone talks about, but the rest of the musical Beetlejuice is the bad guy. But that is neither here nor there.
So far this teaser has me excited, I'm really happy that they got most of the actors to reprise their roles. I think maybe the Maitlands have been recast or aren't in the movie because I couldn't find mention of Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis returning anywhere. Alec I can understand why he isn't there, but I would have liked to see Geena Davis return at least. Maybe we will get a cameo explaining what happened to them? Because they were there at the end of the movie. But Keaton looks amazing as Beetlejuice, and I think he looks even more menacing than he did in the original movie in fact. Also Winona Ryder looks awesome as Lydia Deetz still, its like she hasn't aged much since the original. And Jenna Ortega seems to have been type cast as a goth, but she is a good actress and I'm sure if the writing is good, she will be great. I'll certainly, have this on my radar when it comes out.

Yaaaaaas. At the very least, he appears to be The Villain when he first appears, rising out of the diorama, but will he remain a villain, or will he get redeemed, or...something else? The teaser gives me the vibes I want for a sequel. I love that Catherine O'Hara and Wynona Ryder are back. I wish we could have Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as well, but I don't think that's realistic at all. Lydia's sheer horror at seeing Beetlejuice again was perfect. No clue what the plot could be, but I'm very interested to find out more.
I grew up on Beetlejuice, both the movie and the cartoon (my parents probably shouldn't have let an elementary schooler watch the movie, but I'm pretty sure we mostly watched the "edited for TV" version). And I adored it growing up. I watched it with my wife, who'd never seen it, a couple of years ago after I'd gotten into the musical soundtrack, and... there are parts that really, really don't age well. I love it, but it's problematic.
The musical is really fun. Beej is an anti-hero, and he's on stage for most of the show, but he's still rude and crass and dangerous. He hides it better from Lydia than he does from Adam and Barbara, and the show lampshades some of the really uncomfortable parts of the movie, while also fleshing out his backstory to make him likeable enough to headline a Broadway show. And Alex Brightman was so freakin' good in the part! I saw it just after it opened back up on Broadway a couple years ago (delayed birthday present from my wife - she bought the tickets for my birthday, but the show was like 5 months later - worth the wait), from the very back of the house, and it was so much fun! There's a lot that the soundtrack doesn't cover, and even several vocal interludes that aren't on the soundtrack ("The Whole Being Dead Thing" has a couple extra bits scattered throughout, but they didn't want to spoil certain plot points on the soundtrack). If you go into it knowing it's an adaptation and can separate it from the movie, I think you'll enjoy it. The musical, the cartoon, and the movie are all separate takes, and I love each of them for what they are.

Even though the cartoon painted Beetlejuice in a much more positive light, he still lied, cheated, and stole, plus committed some mental torture. Still, Beetlejuice saved an infant from being eaten by a Sand Worm in my favorite episode of the series. And I do believe Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice would do the same thing.

I know he’s the villain I know he’s awful and gross and that’s the point. I think part of my problem is, for years and years now, I’ve seen so many people idolize the character of beatlejuice. In such a way that it becomes clear they’re actually full on rooting for him, and that makes me uncomfortable. But perhaps this film will help remind people that he’s the villain. I hope so and this teaser does look fantastic! I’m definitely sold on seeing this, I hope I love it more than the original! It will definitely be interesting to see a 65 year old Tim Burton build upon a film he made when he was 29.

If you can accept it as something separate from the movie (one of the opening jokes of the musical is that the beginning is "such a departure from the original source material"), you might enjoy the musical. I feel the musical wastes Adam and Barbara (since they're no longer the protagonists, the musical makes them way too lame), but explores Lydia's grief over losing her mom (in the musical, Delia isn't her stepmother yet, though Charles does propose to her) as well as her father's distance from her and how that affects her. Charles is, in fact, a much more interesting character in the musical (and I'm not just saying that because I played him in an amateur production I was in... lol). Regarding Beetlejuice himself, yes, they do ultimately sort of redeem him, but he spends most of the show being a mischievous fiend.

But then, im comfortable taking the musical as its own thing. The opening song even acknowledges this, as beetlejuice notes "what a bold departure this is from the original" its NOT trying to just adapt the movie, which im glad for as straight movie adaptation musicals tend to be kind of meh to me.

the beetlejuice musical misunderstands the film's intent. beetlejuice is more like the joker, where he is extremely fun for an audience who is safe, but an extremely bad time for anyone in his immediate vicinity. i have a feeling the marriage subplot is going to come back, given we know monica bellucci is playing BJ's wife, and lydia was almost wed to him. interesting how female-centric the cast is, i wonder how that will arc the narrative.
