Yes, they aged them up and now we don't have to feel weird about a romance between 12 year olds. 10/10
Also because you can’t have unageing child actors, so stuff like this… you have an extremely narrow window of opportunity to adapt it.
Let’s not forget the Annointed One in BTVS, who was meant to be the Big Bad of Season 2 but the actor grew notably so they had to write him (a child vampire) out… And any version of Peter Pan. This stuff can only last in animation long-term.
There's going to be a romance? Was there in the comics?
As a Doom Patrol fan I'm a little sad that that iteration of the boys won't be getting an adaptation. But I'm glad the concept itself is getting another shot at mainstream recognition
They do have the same actress playing the Night Nurse at least.
It’s a little funny how Doom Patrol was a spinoff of Titans but set in a different universe, and now Dead Boy Detectives is a spinoff of Doom Patrol but set in a different universe. Hopefully the cycle continues and we get a back door pilot in this show as well lol
From what i read it was orginally supposed be a spin off of Doom Patrol (i really need to watch season 3) but James Gunn axed it so DC tv can focus on the rebooted universe. Then it got moved over to netflix who involved Gaiman and incorporated it into Sandman.
I don’t think Gunn axed it, to be fair; David Zaslav could have kept it, he chose not to.
im so excited SOMEONE on youtube is giving this attention, I myself CANNOT WAIT
Neil has confirmed this is tying into Sandman; i think Netflix is trying to create a "Gaimanverse" using The Sandman
Praying for books of magic next
Ruth Connell is apparently reprising her role as the Night Nurse in the new show. She last played that character in the Doom Patrol series' third season along with a version of the Dead Boys Detective Agency.
Gaiman wrote the opening scene of the first episode where Death appears...
There's much more sincerity than the trailer would have you believe. It's a trailer, they're gonna make it punchy, you can't really judge TOO too much from it.
It’s a really good show imo. Totally worth checking out, at least.
I was upset its doesn't actually spin off from Doom Patrol which did have a back door for it
The rights to both Sandman and this are owned by the same people
Undercutting emotional moments and/or awkwardly lampshade-hanging are one of my big 'oh, that's really annoying' things. It's got to the point where I almost expect stories that treat things more seriously to do that, like I'm just resigned to it now? Anyway, only found out about this thanks to GNeil talking about it. I might check it out, but I might not. I haven't watched any Sandman, and I kind of don't want to, mainly because I know that seeing the most messed up stuff in the comics as live-action would be way too much for me to handle.
It's unfortunately a normal things with trailers nowadays.
Just bingewatched it and I really really like it. I hope so much for a second season
I’m binging it for the third time
Wait I just realised you have a Kamen Rider W figure in the background! I know your not going to watch more of the show but super happy you have a figure
Got sent that for my birthday.
@@BreakRoomofGeeks whoever sent you that deserves a polite clap 👏
Started watching the show 1 episode/night with my SO and we’re loving it so far 😎👍
thus far, every change they have made to the very thing source material seems to be a good call and has me intrigued; aging up the characters, adding magical items for charles and defining him as the fighter adding more magic for edwin and defining him as the brains, adding a fourth member in Niko, apparenlty making these more like mysteries that need solving rather than just little adventure stories, apparenlty LEANING IN to a queer identify for edwin. Every writing decision thus far seems like a good one which piques my interest. but we shall seeeee
This is new to me so thanks for pointing it out ❤
Shame the Doom Patrol version didn’t get a shot, I really dug the chemistry and attitude of those actors.
I loved it so if you did end up watching it I'd love to hear your thoughts!
It's confirmed by Gaiman to be connected with Sandman. But, yeah, I'm not entirely sold on this yet. Then again I was pretty mid on the comic too lol
The trailer has got me interested. I will definitely check out the first couple of episodes to see if I want to watch more.
Seems like a late 2000s early 2010s camp
Completely avoided any show like this but I might check this one out just because it's Neil gaiman
Are you doing reactions to this show per chance, pls say yes, I've just finished the whole show and i have to say i found it quite enjoyable and Niko was incredible, i found her to be the light-hearted kind person you just love.
Both shows are produced by Warner and distributed by Netflix :)
Engagement for the engagement god!
Thebb be lampshading doesn’t happen much in the show itself, that’s mostly just the editing. I feel like Niko can definitely be annoying to some people, but I found her “oddly charming” as Edwin would say :) I absolutely loved the show
Could be interesting, but I'm not sure. Reminds me too much of Netflix's recently cancelled Lockwood & Co. (pretty good first season) even if its source likely pre-dates the other. The characters didn't appeal that much when a version appeared in Doom Patrol, but it might win me over. I do have some of the same concerns about the bathos problem, and the cast ages (maybe Netflix wants us to think they're young teens - it is their casting style), but maybe it'll be good. Just not sure when I'd bother to watch it, too low on my list of stuff I already need to catch up on.
I didn't know Lockwood had been cancelled. That's a pity because I quite enjoyed it.
Like you, it's enough to get me to watch but we'll see how it goes. I also hope they play ages somewhat appropriate to the actors ages.
love th shirt....clearly tarot inspired and i'm one of the bigger collectors....
IMHO - Having Older Teen Boys play the Part of the #DeadBOYS is possibly to not get any blow back or negative criticism for using actors that are the actual age of the Original Text. I mean the Boys do encounter some Ugly and Dark Stuff during the Graphic Novel series. BUT This is just one opinion, and if anyone disagrees that Cool. BUT I am Interested and see this.
Given how young the cast of Stranger Things was when that started, I have a hard time buying that.
@@BreakRoomofGeeksThat's good point. and that's cool BRG (Break Room of Geeks)
it looks like a mix of Half Bad with Umbrella Academy
Hmm looks interesting. Black parade interesting choice for the music. I might look into it
I think that it looks like fun (although I would've found the version from the Doom Patrol Episode more interesting...)
2:45 Bos Turokh confirmed. That's all it can be.
More substantively, I survived Chilling Adventures. If the overwhelming cringe is a helpfully mathematically-low portion of each episode, I'm sure I can make it through this if my interest tips over just enough into actually sitting down to watch it.
I just dont trust stuff to end in a satisfying way anymore. It makes it hard to invest time/energy in a new shows.
Definitely not enough Joshua Colley. 😊❤
Oh hey! I'm first :D
Feels similar to Lockwood & Co. Though with the Sandman name for clout.
😂😂 they came first even before they had an ep in HBO's doon patrol Lockwood and co copied them then made it str8 and boring that's it
@@randomgeekcrap No one “copied” anyone. The two shows have the same “feel” because they are British and focused on teens and the supernatural. Otherwise they have very little in common as far as story and premise.
??? Dead boy Detectives comics came ooy years before Lockwood and Co books, I like both tho
