@nevallen5760 I don't mind. Depending of what part of the 80's, you'd either be freezing in Michigan or trying to survive living in Southern California.
"Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a 🧠, 👟, 🧺, 👸, and a 🤬"
As one that was in high school when this song came out let me tell you that this IS by far the absolute best sung, best played, best timed versions. If you close your eyes you only see the original artists playing!!!! Fuckin aye guys❤
Could watch Ryan McQuerry playing drums all day. Such a capable. relaxed drummer!!!!! And I'm a guitarist....lol!!!! Please give us much more footage of him.......
Never did I think that this would be covered by anyone. It's Jim Kerr ffs !! But this has blown my head , is there nothing these guys don't hit out the park ?? Awesome job
Some great music in the 60s, 70s and 90s too even a few gems in the 00s but starts to get thin on the ground this century. Of course for most people the decade when they were growing up had the "best" music. There was a little band between when I was 9 and 15 that made some okay music. What was their name again. Oh yeah, the Beatles.
Actually the seventies had the best music. Take a look at the Lexington Lab Band's version of The Allman Brothers' 'Jessica.' It knocks the spots of the above video.
If I had the money, I would hire them to perform all of my '80s favorites at an all '80s party. Is it a sin that I like this better than the original? I can understand what he's singing. And that keyboard shines as it should. Totally RAD!
Same here Dave,I'm 55 I feel so so lucky to have grown up in 80s n 90s...I live for music..I play guitar myself...so happy I've discovered LLB...think these are something else ❤❤❤
Steve is our favorite TV guy, and I liked the way he spoke of having this music and videos to show his Grand Children! ( I think he said something like that anyway. Lol). He is wonderful in all the songs he does. I often think of Tom Leszega and when I reached out with my condolences the way his family said they found comfort in his time spent with the band because of the happiness it brought him. This is a good thing LLB does for many reasons, one being legacies left behind.
You guys are my heroes. This song came out in about 1984. I graduated in 1982, so it was still within my high school experience so to speak. This song, and Breakfast Club were my themes guys. Wow man! I was in the marching band and the jazz band, and we played some cool stuff. Music is so much of my high school memory repertoire. And you guys doing this song. Just want to say thanks for sending me back to 1982 for a few minutes. Funny, a friend of mine sent me a photo of us unloading the band truck during our trip to Massachusetts in 1980, and that was before you posted this video. As the man said, Play on!!
Alrighty then from my favorite brat pack movie. We'll done, especially the ringing synth chords and Ryan's drumming. So good. This would be a great opening number for the concert the day before Labor Day.
Since I first heard DYFAM the instrumentation has always been about the keyboard and percussion. Everyone is probably an air drum expert on this song and I've worn out the top of a steering wheel listening a thousand times while driving. There is definitely a Jim Kerr tone going on Also, it unfortunately took me a few decades to figure out there's a strong base line and pleased to hear that was brought forth in this production!
Nice to hear alternate versions of well known hits done well. Even the singer sounds just like Jim Kerr. All you guys are brilliant musicians always loved the drum fill at 3:42
LLB you've done it again! First listen i was grabbed by the drums and vocals. Second listen the keys. Jim is so hard to get right in covers, like Freddy is hard to cover. So many try. So many fail. But you succeeded and then some. Thank you for the trip to my youth.
As someone said recently in some comments somewhere, "80's music always seems futuristic no matter how old it gets" or something to that effect. great cover
I have always felt this way about Blue Monday. It is like a song from the future but also retro at the same time. Future retro. Transcends all decades and genres.
I was lookin' through your vids and saw this song which I must admit at first glance I was skeptical. This song is a defining song of my Gen X high school days and I didn't think ya'll could pull it off. How wrong I was! Oh how I miss the 1980s! And by 1:30 into the song I was singin' aloud with ya'll.
I hit play on the video and was immediately transported to the '80's! I never really expected to hear you guys cover Simple Minds, but I'm sure glad you did!! That was superb!!!
Damn. Very nice, boys. I took this one in 4 or 5 times. Steve's vocals are clear, crisp, solid, sweet, and OUT FRONT! Ryan on drums...awesome, Austin's keys are suh-weet! Randy's bass is spectacular, as always! Everyone is spot on. This is the type of solid cover that makes me appreciate what fine musicians and vocalists you guys are. Thank you!
Love it, a number one song from my Yoooff, lol, a classic song from the early 90's, i am 62 now and getting old, i am looking forward to playing Smack My Bitch up in the Old Peoples home i end up in, lol.
I don't know what year this is anymore. I just finished listening to Danny Lopresto sound like Gerry Rafferty in Baker Street with The Hindley Street Country Club, then follow it up with Steve Broderson's perfect impression of Simple Minds. I am totally blown away! Like the Old Milwaukee beer commercial, it doesn't get any better than this. High Fives, LLB!
Well of all the most LLB things to do is this song . Unexpected, Yet totally nailed the song . With LLB's own little twists, flavor and style . What a De -Lite !! Luv it💯🎶👍
I knew your crew would eventually get around to this iconic tune, and revive it as it was in their (and my) youth. Beautiful attention to detail, here, superb vocals. Bravo! And that quintessential drum fill by Ryan, near the end, not necessarily technically difficult, but it crowns the performance. Brightened my day to see it performed, so applause for including that in the video. You couldn't have left it out, right?
I remember the bar Kenny's Castaways in New York when I visited there in the late 00s. They had a live karaoke band there and anyone could come up and sing. One dude in office wear was called up on the tiny stage. The rhythm guitarist & the drummer knew and the others knew all the parts. The song started and the office dude let rip a nearly perfect rendition of the intro vocal. The rhythm guitarist looked satisfied and he chimed in with backing vocals during the choruses and they did the last "la la la la" outro part together. So fun to watch complete strangers get united by the music they love.
This is one of those quintessential 1980s songs. Excellent job, LLB! I feel transported back to the 1980s!
If I got transported back to the 80's, I think I'm going to stay there.
@@michiganborn8303I don't blame you, mind if I tag along? 😂
@nevallen5760
I don't mind.
Depending of what part of the 80's, you'd either be freezing in Michigan or trying to survive living in Southern California.
This is certainly better than a whole Saturday spent in detention!
Ha ha for sure
With a young Molly Ringwald!!
….Or two months (I got you) !
"Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe? - Bender
Almost 40 years and still an iconic song. The band was excellent, as usual, but the vocals were spot on.
Yep everything in this is spot on👍👍👍👍😊
This song was featured in The Breakfast Club and Picture Perfect. Great song.
Sorry it was Pitch Perfect
As one that was in high school when this song came out let me tell you that this IS by far the absolute best sung, best played, best timed versions. If you close your eyes you only see the original artists playing!!!! Fuckin aye guys❤
that what I felt also. the vocals oh my word !!
These guys are good!!!
Could watch Ryan McQuerry playing drums all day. Such a capable. relaxed drummer!!!!! And I'm a guitarist....lol!!!! Please give us much more footage of him.......
I agree 100%
I get that too. He's so smooth and relaxed you think he's going miss a hit but never does. Dude's a natural born drummer.
I agree 100%. He plays so effortlessly like he isn’t even trying. He is always in the pocket.
Agree with him being relaxed & playing tight in the pocket. As a drummer, I can relate. He reminds me of Michael Sturd out of Nashville. Incredible
How many of us watched The Breakfast Club highlights in our heads and thought of a happier time listening to this?
Beautiful as always.
Well said indeed.
Never did I think that this would be covered by anyone. It's Jim Kerr ffs !! But this has blown my head , is there nothing these guys don't hit out the park ?? Awesome job
Vocals were so close to Jim Kerr, awesome job LLB!
OUTSTANDING JOB !!!!!!!! SOUNDED JUST LIKE SIMPLE MINDS !!!!!
Yet with that LLB flavor and Style!
Thanks guys the eighties had the best music. And in 2024 so does the Lexington lab band😊
80’s never to be replicated
Some great music in the 60s, 70s and 90s too even a few gems in the 00s but starts to get thin on the ground this century. 70ies had the best music and artists/bands: LED ZEPPELIN, QUEEN, ABBA, THE SWEET, AC/DC, SMOKIE, STATUS QUO...but as michaelginever732 said...
@@drummerman1964 for sure love all 70’s rock plus the Disco era. I was born in 64 so 70’s 80’s was my growing up days
Actually the seventies had the best music. Take a look at the Lexington Lab Band's version of The Allman Brothers' 'Jessica.' It knocks the spots of the above video.
The two older gentlemen here were in their 20's when this song was released. They're covering the soundtrack of their lives
"older" ?? 😁 I was 18 when that came out (April 1985), so I am old enough to be their kid brother, I guess.
You guys are awesome, the drummer is the best of all cover bands
One of the coolest grooves ever put down. Drums and bass👏👏👏👏
I swear, Steve can take ANY lyric, wrap his voice around it and make it his. MAGNIFICENT job by all.
❤reminds me of a better time in our country. Glad I grew up when I did. Y’all are great. 😊
If I had the money, I would hire them to perform all of my '80s favorites at an all '80s party. Is it a sin that I like this better than the original? I can understand what he's singing. And that keyboard shines as it should. Totally RAD!
A song that became iconic because of its use in The Breakfast Club....The flick and the song are synonymous....
Awesome¡ the whole band. When something from China Crisis?
Great job you guys! The drums sound really killer on this one.. I must know what reverb is on that snare
I used a plug in called “verbsuite classics” from slate. The FG-2000 modeler.
Another PERFECT performance from the Lexington Lab Band.
tão boa quanto a original
Superb, thought it was simple minds for a moment. Congrats on another masterpiece.
This is REAL. Captured it. Packaged it. Delivered it. Exceptional. And let’s celebrate Ryan - a lot!!!
I’m so glad I grew up when I did. We had the best music. Great job guys for the trip down memory lane
I miss that world
Same here Dave,I'm 55 I feel so so lucky to have grown up in 80s n 90s...I live for music..I play guitar myself...so happy I've discovered LLB...think these are something else ❤❤❤
Great song, excellent cover! This song used to make me think of The Breakfast Club, but now I will always think of the show 12 Monkeys.
Lexington Lab Band - World Class!!
Jim Kerr's voice is instantly recognizable and this LLB cover is closer than I've heard it. Great cover!
Don't you forget about ....... real MUSIC.... very nice, well done..... !!!
Perfect! Bring me to the greatest times!❤ Thanks for sharing!
This song is stuck to my heart because it was the first time I went to movies with a girl to see Breakfast club.
A majestic song that has and will transcend time. Well done!
AWSOME BAND! THANKS FOR DOING THIS AND SHARING IT FOR FREE!
you just took this 61 year old man back to the 80s when I was a young single guy hitting the dance clubs- tears in my eyes- awesome- love you !!!
Few songs capture the spirit of a generation while remaining timeless like this one, great job everyone 👏
Captures the spectacular vocals & instrumentation of the original. Classic. Thanks LLB.
I’m finding you guys tonight for the first time, I’m shocked how great you guys really are.
So good its ridiculous..! I transported back to the 1980's..!
Best cover band ever!!
💯🎤

Brilliant. As always everyone has done an excellent job. Steve's vocal outstanding for the task! Loved it.
Always loved this song, there is something special about the hi-hat and the snare on this song.
Absolutely . . . Incredible Hi-hat flavor

This band just gets better with age.
Hello, mi name is joe, i am from peruvian, congratulations.😊
For your keyboardist- I’ve got a Yamaha MODX. What programs did you use? Authentic cover guys!
Great cover guys. But I still love how Mel Gaynor played hi-hats in the original with only one hand 😎
Don't you forget about this cover! GREAT JOB!!! Wow!

Time and again Lexington Lab Band delivers… wow, such a joy to listen ❤!!!
Don't you stop impressing me ! Congrats Gentlemen
Awesome!
You could perform "I Wanna Know What Love Is" (Foreigner)!!!!
Excellence! But, how can we expect any less? Thanks . . .
I feel this one in my chest. Such an amazing job. You guys never disappoint but sometimes you exceed expectations. Thank you so much for posting this.
One of the best movies ever!
I'm partial to drums....great job Ryan!
Not a day goes by without me missing the time!
I am 63 now but hate today's contrivance and ruined pleasures.
What a great way to end the day, with a new LLB cover. Excellent!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Exelente son unos Genios! Deberian interpretar LIVE TO TELL de MADONNA. saludos desde ARGENTINA
Nailed it ❤
EVERYTHING this band plays sounds awesome.
From my simple mind I’m telling you, this is the best cover ever!👍
I know this isn't a request venue but makes me hope for Alive and Kickin! In concert the la la las were so so crowd sing along. Sweet!

One of the best bands to come out of Glasgow Scotland. You have done this song proud with a tribute which is indistinguishable from the original.
Wow! Outstanding! You guys totally nailed it, man. Thanks for putting together such a great cover of this tune!
It's that time again.
Wow I just come here to listen to this awesome band instead of looking for the originals one who may not sound as great as LLabs
Great job guys!
bakan muy buen tema y excelente musica 🇨🇱😎👍
The Breakfast Club is still one of my very favorite movies.
Wondering if y'all have heard of HSCC band?
Y'all sound great!
Thanks for the the music! ✅

62 is better then 72
Excelente 😃💞🥰👋👋
Simple Minds is one of my favorite bands. They are currently on tour, and I hope they will come to the US! Great version of this classic tune!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I had high expectations for this cover and it delivered. These guys are top shelf for sure.

Amazing work LLB! You regularly bring vivid elements of my teenage years (class of '85) to life.
I'm ecstatic about this Lexington Lab Band, first time I come across their outstanding performance. Very close to the original.
You guys should do “Alive and kicking” as well
