💯! Excellent musicianship all around. This song, performance, and this footage, it's all for the ages. I think as long as humans are around, it will be playing on the radio, streaming, or whatever medium of the future. Regarding credit or somewhat related to it, I've seen them described as the Scottish answer to U2. Not making a judgement on how they compare or not to U2, but IMO an interesting observation. I think they are more dynamic and melodic than U2.

I was one of the lucky 90,000 in the crowd that day. At age 17, I didn’t realize that it would be the concert of my life.
Oct. 2023 update: I’ll share my personal insanity of that day. My four friends and I got tickets (they were $35 which was around 3x the cost of most big concerts then). But the weekend fell on the same time another trip I had planned with other friends who were going to Wildwood, NJ. So it worked out I’d be dropped off at the concert by those guys on Saturday morning and I’d meet my concert friends at our nosebleed seats.
Only problem was, when I got there around 9 am, the seats were empty because my friends had worked their way onto the field. Problem was, they were my ride home, back to the Poconos, which is two hours away).
So I snuck past security and wandered through a crowd of 90,000 teenagers looking for my “friends.” Bear in mind Cel phones didn’t exist. If I didn’t find them, I’d be stuck in Philadelphia at age 17. My mother didn’t even know I was at the concert!
I found my friends about 40 yards from the stage. Right in front of that big television monitor in the middle of JFK. It only took less than a half hour to find them. It was a miracle.

mya rae, it’s almost hard to believe it’s been so long. I’m roughly the same age as Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall (the other “students” were actually years older.) We saw “The Breakfast Club” at the movies the same summer as Live Aid. At no time did we think it was some big cultural movement or whatever, but 35 years later, I guess it was. Bravo for liking the old songs by the way!

Live Aid, put together by Bob Geldof and, this is never mentioned anything like enough, by Scotsman Midge Ure, who I strongly feel never got the credit he deserved. Without Midge Ure, who performed at the Wembley end of Live Aid, there would have been no Band Aid - there would have been no legendary song for all the ages - Do They Know Its Christmas?, which can easily rank alongside John Lennon's War Is Over and Imagine, because it is absolutely timeless. Midge Ure may not have been the PUBLIC face of Live Aid, but he did make an enormous contribution to this event, and that should never be forgotten. While Geldof was all about how great am I doing this, Midge Ure was the exact opposite and just quietly got on with it in the background most of the time.

Even though his stamina has never been near great, he was still in control of his voice, at that time. Listening to Jim Kerr nowadays can be quite a job, and there have been many, many concerts when he clearly didn´t hit a single note. That´s why they´re heavily backing him up with supporting singers so that he hasn´t got to do very much on stage. Charlie Burchill is and alway has been spot on with his performances, and Mel Gaynor on drums is also a real treat. I also really do appreciate the actual band roster with Ged Grimes on bass :)

Twas an awesome time ! We were the last generation to live in that ‘old fashioned’ world i suppose before ipods, wifi, mobile phones etc..the first mobile phones were gigantic ! We had only three tv channels here in UK. You had to actually stand up and press a button to change the channel. You were lucky if you had a black n white portable tv in your bedroom ! Tv used to shut off at midnight when i was a kid and people would stand for the national anthem at the movies.I miss those days ...i miss my parents.Life seemed so much slower and simple then.Summer seemed to last forever as a teenager .We thought it would last forever..

Born in ‘72 here. The 80’s were awesome, totally rad! Riding bmx bikes till the sun went down, cartoons on Saturday mornings, and if you wanted to play a video game you had to go to an arcade. Simpler times made a childhood great. I feel sorry for my kids.

I was born in 66 and at first I saw there is not one Mobilephone in the hands. I love that. And I love that song, and the 80`s .
