As a foreigner following British politics, I assumed that after Theresa May's disappearance, Andrea Leadsom would have been the best person to succeed her as Prime Minister. Johnson's disastrous efforts to destroy the Conservative Party would never have happened under her leadership.
British politics doesn't work like that. And the Tory party has not been destroyed. One individual cannot destroy a political party that is over 400 years old.

Andrea would make a brilliant PM one day. I've always thought she could easily be the leader of the Conservative Party. Shame she was sacked, but I'm sure she'll be back in the future.

She's not too bright. Her brother is a hedge fund manager on the tax haven of Jersey, I understand. That's where her primary interests lie.

It seems to me that just insisting a civil servant does his or her job, and do it promptly, is bullying - at least in their eyes.
John Bercow gave up impartiality that was unforgivable, the speaker is not meant to be a part of the oposition

BattlestarZenobia it’s not the role of speaker to stand up for anybody. Neutrality means just that, not ever taking sides. There is a famous quote, "I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as this House is pleased to direct me". Bercow chose to ignore this...
Robin Turner his job is too stand up for Parliament and referee the internal debate, he was entirely impartial to the House but when the government tried to run roughshod over the House he stood up for Parliament, for the people, the the British Constitution and for the backbench MPs who represent most of the country

Only tory I've ever liked bog John. Gave both sides a chance and wasn't biased towards the right for a change. A man of the people and a man living in today's time line.
Dave Walker he was as biased as they come! He did everything he could to stop Brexit, he belittled people and there was complaints from female staff of bulling. He was an awful man in the end who gave the opinion that he owned that chamber. Even his own wife found someone better !!

Throw in her 'misleading' CV and the BBC reported in the lead up to the Tory leadership vote in 2016 '... The Times headlined its front-page lead story: "Being a mother gives me edge on May - Leadsom."...' I think "the lights are on, but no-ones home" is appropriate or just your average Tory MP.

If she wants back in she needs to prove herself. Cabinet positions are not guaranteed for life, they chop and change constantly. I'm sure she will get another crack at the whip at some time.

Leadsom says there's no evidence that Priti Patel has done any of the things she's alleged to have done but that's questionable at the very least. Patel was judged, by the government's independent Advisor on standards to have broken the Ministerial Code (according to those who saw his report' ) but Boris Johnson overruled that judgement and buried the report.
Bercow is spot on.
Bercow was the worst speaker the UK parliament has had by far.
