Regarding worker count, decide how many you want to make and plan it into your build. Stopping at 45-50 is good to saturate 2 bases. It takes 66 workers to saturate 3 bases, but remember your main is going to have 8 spare workers by 9 minutes as the first 4 patches mine out around this time, so if you aren’t going to make a fourth, you can get away with 60 workers 65 is a more typical macro style and you would need to go up to a fourth base to use them all. 75-80 would be considered a large-economy style. For this many workers to be worth it, you would need to be trading a lot and have 4+ fully mining bases.
There are drawbacks to having too many workers. A few extra workers per base continue to increase mining speed, with diminishing returns, but above about 20/16 it’s pure waste-wasted minerals and wasted supply. Furthermore, over-making workers reduces how much of the 200 supply cap can go into army, so you end up with a smaller maxed army if you have too many workers.
Over-making workers is a sign that you are succeeding in continuous worker production, so good job with that objective. Just realize that part of the game has a finish line. You should know where it is and quit when you cross it.
Cheers!
Thanks man.
This makes a lot of sense and I’ll start thinking about it as I’m building up
Yeah, this bug on the Blizzard ladder is somewhat annoying: your profile appears with the Bronze league frame, but technically your MMR is enough to be Gold 1. Good job. You've way passed the skill of a Bronze player. Let's hope they fix the bug soon...
Oh it’s a bug?
I played 1 ranking game at the start of this season, it didn’t let me do the other 2 and just put my in bronze 2
@@Voidspacealpha Yes, it happened to me as well couple of seasons ago. Because of this bug, if you win your placement match you are put into Masters and if you lose it you end up in Bronze, regardless of your MMR.
I see that your MMR is around 2720 which means you are better than 45% of players on the EU server, qualifying for Gold 1. To enter Plat you need 2850 MMR more or less.
I believe that your good performance on the ladder is mainly due to your ability to max out before your opponents.
Have fun!
You know, I’ve been thinking about this a lot.
I’m really focused on speed and production now over almost anything else
Good call. I forgot about this bug.
This was the first I learnt about it
08:44 "did kind of ok against the banelings" - in practice start working on pulling back the marines as they shoot at banelings, increasing the distance the banelings need to cross before detonating - this will eventually lead to 'splitting' your units but standing still in a tight group will continue to cost you piles of marines to those little poison-filled rolling land mines :)
Thanks man.
I’ll work on it, promise
Kill hatcheries to reduce his ability to produce. Kill drones to reduce his economy. As Zerg, it’s much easier to bounce back if I save my workers. I can multi-expand to several new bases quickly after successfully defending, but if I lose a bunch of workers, too, its much harder to do all of the following: re-expand to a good hatchery count for larva production, replace workers back to a reasonable economy, and have enough larva and resources to build enough army to defend the next attack.
I would say prioritize killing drones over hatcheries when you get the chance to choose, in pretty much all circumstances.
Yeah totally get this.
You know interestingly I beat a Zerg recently by getting vikings behind his base and killing all his overlords. Crazy game.
Disgusting disgusting Nydus worms. I hate them so much. Not for gameplay reasons but worms in general gross me out so much. Like I'm fine with a lot of bugs except the really bright ones but not worms.
Anyways, the key to Nydus worms is multitasking and awareness. The best way to use them against a Terran is a late game backstab, queen all ins, or swarm hosts.
In this case, it was a lurker backstab. IMO it's not particularly good against ladder Terrans and it's better for pros. This is because pros tend to prefer widow mines and ghosts over tanks. Tanks counter lurkers hard. They outrange lurkers, are available much earlier, and if the lurkers tried to jump the tanks, your bio army should be able to easily mow them down. In this case, you could've just sat on him with the tank and forced him to make a move. Lurkers do not have a lot of single target dps so they'll take a long time to go through your buildings.
Also, if a Nydus and the network dies, any units loaded inside will also die. Weird trivia that's never gonna be used but it is interesting.
That is very interesting. Didn’t know this.
I’ve been more vigilant at looking for worms now
You were considerably better than your opponent this game. Even though your composition worked , I think you should start practicing building counter units. Having marauders in your army helps tank the banelings. Control clicking your marines, and then stimming them away, allows your marauders to take the brunt of the damage. It takes some practice but it will become necessary as you move up the ladder.
Noted.
I will consciously try to include a few marauders in my build. Thanks
Another great video. Very minor (but let's practice good habits now). When you send the SCV to your natural, have him mine minerals once while you wait to hit 400. When the CC is completed, it automatically delivers the minerals.
You accidentally placed your buildings in a perfect defense of the nydus.
8 rax is a good number. Once you have 8 rax, focus on building command centers to expand and convert them to get additional scans/SCVs.
Creep tumors are NOT buildings. And for now on, when a terran drops his entire army via medivac, I am going to call it an Ollie Drop.
An Ollie drop.
Amazing! 😂
Thanks man, some solid bits there for me. I appreciate it
Certainly kill the overlords whenever you can without getting distracted from hitting your build. Even if you don’t cause a block (and you won’t often at higher skill levels) it’s still 100 minerals and a larva that you can kill for free.
Totally. Well worth the effort if it dosent cost me anything
Easy enemy...
Hopefully I’ll continue up the rankings then
