Thanks for your video. Even after all this time, it’s relevant and useful. First time overseeding.
Perfect. Great video. That’s what I’ll be doing tomorrow to get ready for my bluegrass seed to go down in September. Great stuff👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I never run more than four sprinkles heads in a zone or at a time. There can be a risk of “hammering” your plumbing system wherein air gets into your pipes if you exceed your limits and vibrates the pipes in your house causing plumbing damage.
I’ve never installed a permanent sprinkler system because I don’t want the complications of maintenance and possible rebuilds of the underground hoses and the risk of having to dig my lawn up to repair the hoses or replace sprinkler heads. I’ve been using a system the way you’ve done it here for fifty years but I’ve landscaped shrubbery beds and framed the sides of my property with beds. Every year I lay out all of my sprinklers in their zones in the same layout in the beds and bury the hose under wood mulch chips and I have timers set up on both front and rear faucets split into six zones. If I have to replace a single sprinkler head or a section of hose I do it without digging and I throw a bag of wood chips over where I worked when I finish without damaging my lawn. At the end of the season I roll it up on hose rolls for the winter and I don’t need to winterize a system. It’s much less costly and I’ve found less complex.
Interesting fact about the plumbing impact! Thanks for sharing and watching!
I have 10 impact sprinklers and my water bill came up to $140 but i have the greenest lawn on my block. I have them go off at different times staring at 4:00 am- 700 am
Great video, I am starting a very similar project, appreciate your ideas
Hope it goes well!! I appreciate you watching!
Very helpful video!
Appreciate you watching!!
Do you think I would be able to hide the hoses either by digging a trench in the rim of the grass or with pvc pipe. I dint really like the eye sore of having hoses across the lawn ? Thanks
I don't see why not! Good luck with the irrigation project!
Have you done anything different
With your diy irigation since this video?
I have upgraded the heads from the impact to the rainbird adjustable gear drive ones. They give more even coverage. I'll get a video out soon with the updates!
do you think you will pull the trigger and have an in ground irigation system installed ? if you do, will you also have a separate water meter installed for just your sprinkler system ??? I've checked to see how much one is for my yard, and it's way too expensive for me right now.... it would cost me $5000 to have the separate water meter installed by my city, then the cost of the system itself would be another $3K - $5k.
Here in NC it's the same... to do it the correct way you have to have a separate meter installed and it's pricey. My diy set up works ok for now but I'd really like an inground system eventually. Appreciate the comment!
My problem is I can't seem to get 2 sprinklers to work together inline with each other on a timer... either one works great and thr other just trickles...
Any suggestions
How's your water pressure typically? That'd be my first thought. The timer shouldn't impact the performance. I used one this year with two in impact sprinklers line. I'm able to put two in line with only a small reduction in performance. Im on city water.
Or does each sprinkler need to be on a zone since im using a timer
You can run a series of sprinklers on a strand of hoses as he did for each zone. Some electronic battery powered faucet end timers have multiple couplings so that you can lay down multiple zones ( each zone running multiple sprinklers in a series)?around your house and set each zone on different times of course.
Be careful not to exceed your house pressure capacity as you don’t want to run too many sprinklers at one time. I never run more than four in a zone. If you exceed your plumbing capacity you can risk “ hammering” your plumbing system wherein air gets into your house’s pipes and vibrates the plumbing causing plumbing damage.
