I have the same system but with rainbird heads. I carry a large screwdriver with me when I install to start a pilot hole so I don't jack up the spike if the soil is too hard. I recently have seen a pic of someone using a PVC pipe driven in and then the spikes have a base to sit it if they are always going to be in the general location. I haven't tried it yet but now that I basically have my coverage figured for each head in each location I may try it.

What's cool is that Lowe's puts all their Rainbird on clearance every late summer. I have several metal impact sprinklers set up around my landscaping bed perimeter with interconnecting hoses and quick connectors. Only problem is they are constantly failing..tearing up and I've had very little success repairing them. With these I can just use the damaged sprinklers spike base for the Rainbird. Hopefully they should last much longer! Thx for a great video!!
Best video ever, because nobody explains how these popular type of sprinkles work better than you, gives me a clear idea of what I'm getting before making the purchase; now my idea is to use a 100 feet hose that I have laying around because my dog bit a small fraction of it, so I'm thinking maybe if I buy at least 3 or 4 of these (maybe 1000 head for my use) and buy some attachments for the water hose (I dont know the name) then I can cut the hoses wherever I need to and boom.. does that sound like a good idea ?
@LawnDaddy--Great idea! The only way it worked for me is because I already an old and tired three sprinkler set with hoses; the sprinklers were plastic and shot. The spikes I had from some old and tired impact sprinklers. The sprinkler heads I had from my in ground system that needs tender care--puttting in risers, new sprinkler heads, etc. I had all these parts around with no clue I could put it all together to make a nifty spot system. I'm now running two sprinklers with about a 20' feet radius. Great little system for adding water here and there. Three heads could almost be problematic if I were moving the system around. I figure one could easily mow over these without a problem. Much better than the PVC systems I've seen around the town. Simple and effective. Maybe use a Y valve at some point. Water pressure isn't an issue, but it could be with four heads. Thinking about it, though; I don't think I would go out and purchase parts to make the system.
Thank you for this excellent option. My front yard is difficult to water because it is over 100 ft wide and 60-70 ft deep with trees and natural areas. I don't think running hoses along the perimeter is practical in my case, along with the problem of reduced water pressure along a long line and not reaching the middle area. I currently try with tripod sprinklers but with hoses across the yard! Maybe I can use a partial version of yours as part of the system. Thanks.

This is so agenious, 2 years ago I had built a DIY pvc sled setup with 2 sprinkler heads, I was amazed to see that with 2 sprinkler heads they both got a 21 ft spray pattern each. Sad part is, constantly having to move it along front & back property every 30ish minutes, I've been trying to figure out a way how I can rig something up very similar to what you had already diminstrated & I really like the idea, ty for sharing this

To make a 4 head system you would need 4 sprinkler spikes, 4 risers, 4 sprinkler heads and 4 of the MP rotator cartridges. You would also need 3 hoses to connect the 4 hesds together.
How far apart do you place your sprinkler heads may I also ask how high do you keep your lawn length for this system I appreciate any advice and thank you God bless
I space my sprinkler heads about 15-20 feet apart, that way you get good coverage. For this setup the length of cut doesn't matter, I've had it at 1 inch all the way up to 4 inches tall.

I looked online and each rotator have diff arcs, I would see if home depot has diff rotators, it should say on the rotator what it can adjust to. Sorry this didnt work for ya but I'm sure home depot has diff kinds.
I'm thinking of doing something very similar. My question is, can you leave the setup out for the duration of the watering season? Any issues with doing that? I want to pair the setup with a smart controller from Orbit and forget about it. Thanks!
I don't see why you couldn't leave it out all season, if your sprinkler heads are gonna be in the same spot everytime then what you are suggesting would make sense.
You can certainly leave them out, but it's best to keep the hoses off the grass (if possible) for long periods of time so you don't deaden the grass under them. If you're fortunate enough to have flower beds around the home, you could actually try concealing the hose under the bushes. Also, prior to the first freeze, you have to unhook the hoses and drain them to keep them from freezing.
You can see the value of an inground sprinkler system. Messing around with hoses and removing sprinklers for mowing is a constant inconvenience. I wish I had one.
Is there an easy way to know how long you should be running these for? I.e. I just put down grass seed, so it needs a good amount a water, how long should these be run for?
with new grass seed you wanna make sure the area stays (dare I say) moist. On average you need 1inch of water per week...so for me, I ran these sprinklers for 1 hour twice a week in the summer and had good results.
@@chrisl1637 probably yes, amounts of rain can make it challenging due to wash out, keep it simple, even if you only get to water for 20 min a day, it's better than nothing. Whatever seed doesn't take can always be fixed in the fall.
I can run 4 heads at a time but the pressure decreases a bit...3 for sure at good pressure. Each head is 25 ft apart (I have 25 ft hoses) I have normal residential water pressure. If its worth anything I love this sprinkler setup, make sure the heads overlap each other when they spray.

Lawn Daddy I have a 100 ft. fence line covered in honeysuckle. I need spray heads that spray in One direction only. Could you please tell me which ones I would need to buy?
If you are putting the sprinkler heads up against the fence then you can buy any MP rotator as long as it sprays past 180 degrees. The ones I used in my video are MP3000 and they can adjust from 90 to 210 degrees. This way you can put the heads as close to the fence as you can and adjust the angle of spray.

I am finding my 15 year old Inground system is a real pain to maintain... the heads get imbedded into soil, get buried, clogged, shift with the soil, etc... then you have to start digging to readjust them or replace them... I have spent multiples days, digging, replacing and adjusting.. I really am at the point of just capping a lot of the in ground heads off and going above ground with a setup like LawnDaddy just showed us here.. they are easy to move around and you can always move them around to suit your needs.. I really like these Hunter rotators that LawnDaddy showed us here, they are super easy to adjust and you won't overwater like the rainbird spray nozzles are prone to do. I am probably gonna turn off some of my zones and go with above ground setup.

I remove them, I cut 4 pieces of 3/4" pvc pipe to 6" each and stuck them in the ground where the heads go. This allows me to put the sprinkler heads in the same spot everytime.
Have you changed up your sprinkler system since this was done? Have you gone with an underground type irrigation sprinkler system or still one that is above ground? how have you been liking it ???? does it serve your needs?
I still have the above ground system, still works really well for me. I've got quick connects on each sprinkler spike so setup is a lot quicker...plus since my sprinkler heads are placed in the same spot everytime, I buried a 6 inch long piece of pvc pipe in the ground every where a head goes so I just have to place the sprinkler spike in the pipe. Takes away the guessing.
Do you see a drop in performance with connecting multiple heads st once? I have not so great water pressure or gpm from my spigot. Thinking about getting these but not sure how well they will do.
Not sure why the answer isn't showing up, the answer was yes, if I hook 3 heads together they work great...as soon as I hook up a 4th head, you notice a slight drop in pressure. 4 heads work but you can notice they dont spray quite as far...but they still work.

It's more like 2 hrs on the front yard twice a week, I have to move the sprinkler setup 1 time to get full coverage. I get just over .5 inches each time I water...your lawn should get 1 inch per week.
IIRC these accept up to 40psi but other sprinklers like Melnor impact sprinklers require a lot of pressure to run multiples at the same time. IIRC you don't need a lot of pressure to run these, that's why I'm interested in doing these and FWIW I can run multiple lines off a multiple timer.

Standard residential water pressure can range from 40 to 80 psi, I have standard water pressure and I can run 4 sprinklers heads at one time. Each system varies and it's always best to consult an irregation specialist when putting in an irregation system.
@@TheLawnDaddy ... one hour for these Hunter rotators is not near as long as it sounds, they are putting the water out at a much slower rate than the traditional rainbird spray nozzles... lower and slower water output, but less waste.

Long term, this all seems like a lawn maintenance nightmare. Tripping hazard from hidden sprinklers, all primed for cutting by mowers. Also hot summer UV rays will tend to disintegrate exposed hose and fittings exposed to sun. Why not buy/rent a mini-trencher, drop and glue PVC pipe in ground safely where it belongs? You can use 9v battery-operated controller w/DC-latching solenoids if you don't want to plug into a regular 24vac system. Some Rainbird valves let you interchange DC solenoids for AC types without R&R'ing valve, in case you want to switch over to a standard 24vac irrigation system. Schedule 20 PVC 3/4in pipe will cost less than .25/ft. in bulk, most of your zones will be running in that size or use 1/2in. pipe which is cheaper.
Thx for watching, Sprinkler heads and hoses dont stay in the Lawn, you place them where you want, and after watering you put them away...quick, easy and cheap. Perfect for most ppl who are just starting out.
Another suggestion could be (if sprinkler will be placed in the same spots everytime) to hammer down a piece of PVC pipe into the ground where you need to put the spike, that way you just have to put spike into the pipe...
We have hard soil too, just wet the ground first then push the spikes in, that's how I do it with everything I have to put into the ground, makes it alot easier.

I made the mistake of doing mine too far apart, resulting in dry spots in between each sprinkler head. so now I overlap it till it almost hits the other sprinkler head much better results.
All music is from TH-cam music...ALL free to use. Opening I used wrong-1. Cutting grass I used Janji heroes tonight and i used orange foot during sprinkler scenes.
I didn't do this in the video but I took a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe about 4-6" long and buried it into the ground (1 piece for each head) that way the heads can be put in the same spot each time. Yes you have to remove the heads when you mow but it's cheaper than inground irregation.
What is your PSI and flow rate from your spigot? Doesn’t look like you have any issues running 3 heads at the same time so just wondering if I could do the same
I have very average PSI and Flow rates running 3 heads I have never had any loss of pressure, when I hook up a forth a do see a drop in pressure from the 4th head. If you have good PSI and flow rate you will have no issues.

Yes but I have no use for the 100 ft hose that my dog bit unless I use it for a project you know what I mean?
I like to dig it all in so You do not drip over hoses or sprinkler heads. I had to learn it! Good Show all the same!

Each hose has a male and female end to it, the sprinkler spikes also have a male end and female end.

My water pressure is average, 3 run at full range...the forth one runs at maybe 65%

Yes, the riser is only there so you can connect the sprinkler head to the spike. I think mine are 1.5"

I installed one myself less than $450 in 3-4 days to water 10k sq ft of lawn. Not too hard if you know what u doing and it was 100% worth it.

Sorry to sound foolish, but what is the piece you are screwing the black piece into?
It's a riser so u can attach the sprinkler head to the sprinkler spike, its threaded on both ends. I hope that's what you were asking.

So, if you mow the grass, do you remove the sprinkler or do you just mow around it and use a trimmer to trim the grass around the unit?

No, but it takes 5 seconds to assemble. The sprinkler head comes with a dummy head in it, u twist it off then screw in the MP rotator.
Can you create mist with these?
Not that I'm aware of, nothing on Hunter's websites suggests spraying mist.
Do you see a drop in performance with connecting multiple heads st once? I have not so great water pressure or gpm from my spigot. Thinking about getting these but not sure how well they will do.

Not sure why the answer isn't showing up, the answer was yes, if I hook 3 heads together they work great...as soon as I hook up a 4th head, you notice a slight drop in pressure. 4 heads work but you can notice they dont spray quite as far...but they still work.

1.5 hours? How much water you getting down in that 1.5 hours? I see most places saying .5 inch per watering.
It's more like 2 hrs on the front yard twice a week, I have to move the sprinkler setup 1 time to get full coverage. I get just over .5 inches each time I water...your lawn should get 1 inch per week.
You must have good water pressure
IIRC these accept up to 40psi but other sprinklers like Melnor impact sprinklers require a lot of pressure to run multiples at the same time. IIRC you don't need a lot of pressure to run these, that's why I'm interested in doing these and FWIW I can run multiple lines off a multiple timer.
Thank you for putting out video . I was looking for some ideas for above ground sprinkler system , and this video helped get ideas. I have a question , if I can use a normal garden hose 5/8 inch instead of 1/2 inch hose. I have a lot of 5/8 hose already at home. Any suggestions please .

If you can get 5/8 spikes than ya do it but I'm not sure I e seen any...fittings are all same size whether its 1/2 or 5/8

What is the water pressure needed for lawn irrigation
Standard residential water pressure can range from 40 to 80 psi, I have standard water pressure and I can run 4 sprinklers heads at one time. Each system varies and it's always best to consult an irregation specialist when putting in an irregation system.

@@TheLawnDaddy ... one hour for these Hunter rotators is not near as long as it sounds, they are putting the water out at a much slower rate than the traditional rainbird spray nozzles... lower and slower water output, but less waste.

Do you know the pressure and flow rates needed to make this work?
I have your standard home owners water pressure...3 sprinklers heads will run at full pressure, 4 heads will run at a little lower pressure.
What is the piece called between the spike and the Huntrer pro spray that connects the twoS? it is not mentioned in the video.
It's just a simple riser, I went to home hardware and bought them there...they just need to be threaded on both side.

@@UsaHickTown the body for $5 should work...I believe the sprinkler head with the 40 psi regulator is if you have really high water pressure.

Long term, this all seems like a lawn maintenance nightmare. Tripping hazard from hidden sprinklers, all primed for cutting by mowers. Also hot summer UV rays will tend to disintegrate exposed hose and fittings exposed to sun. Why not buy/rent a mini-trencher, drop and glue PVC pipe in ground safely where it belongs? You can use 9v battery-operated controller w/DC-latching solenoids if you don't want to plug into a regular 24vac system. Some Rainbird valves let you interchange DC solenoids for AC types without R&R'ing valve, in case you want to switch over to a standard 24vac irrigation system. Schedule 20 PVC 3/4in pipe will cost less than .25/ft. in bulk, most of your zones will be running in that size or use 1/2in. pipe which is cheaper.
Thx for watching, Sprinkler heads and hoses dont stay in the Lawn, you place them where you want, and after watering you put them away...quick, easy and cheap. Perfect for most ppl who are just starting out.
Just remember with buried pipe you have to blow it out before cold weather. That can require a pretty good sized compressor.

First problem I see right at 5:00. "Push spike into ground." Won't be doing that here. Need hydraulic press to get spike into ground.
Another suggestion could be (if sprinkler will be placed in the same spots everytime) to hammer down a piece of PVC pipe into the ground where you need to put the spike, that way you just have to put spike into the pipe...
We have hard soil too, just wet the ground first then push the spikes in, that's how I do it with everything I have to put into the ground, makes it alot easier.

What length hose? How far apart are your heads?
I made the mistake of doing mine too far apart, resulting in dry spots in between each sprinkler head. so now I overlap it till it almost hits the other sprinkler head much better results.
About how many feet I’m guessing less than 20 if your hose sets are 25ft
I have 25 ft hoses, sprikler heads spray 30 feet.

I didn't do this in the video but I took a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe about 4-6" long and buried it into the ground (1 piece for each head) that way the heads can be put in the same spot each time. Yes you have to remove the heads when you mow but it's cheaper than inground irregation.

What is your PSI and flow rate from your spigot? Doesn’t look like you have any issues running 3 heads at the same time so just wondering if I could do the same
I have very average PSI and Flow rates running 3 heads I have never had any loss of pressure, when I hook up a forth a do see a drop in pressure from the 4th head. If you have good PSI and flow rate you will have no issues.
