I have a deep deep DEEP love for Deloused BUT... Goliath is my favorite Volta album! Also Empty Vessels Make the Loudest Sounds is my favorite song of all time so don't sleep on Noct!
@@_-_-_-Prof.BoskoBiathi-_-_-_Same thing for me! I consider Amputechture to be their least accessible album and it's a rewarding experience when it finally grows on you. The whole album reminds me of a Salvador Dali, and I love it! I also love the Self-titled, it became my gateway to R&B & Caribbean music. Shore Story is phenomenal and so human. I hope I get to see The Mars Volta if they ever come to play in my city...
Televators was the first TMV song I ever heard over a decade ago now, I loved it immediately. I do have to say that I’m thankful I naturally loved the rest of their sound because no song on their album is the same or lacking in any way. Also on Noctourniquet I feel like surprisingly my favourite song was Empty Vessels Make The Loudest Sound
Octahedron is amazing, So so good. Cotopaxi is immense, one of the songs of my life. My opinion is amazing, read it it goes.. (1)Frances (2)Deloused (3)Octahedron (4)Bedlam (5)Amputechture (6)Noctourniquet It changes like opinions sometimes do, my opinion is better though even when it changes.
I agree so much about Cotopaxi. That song is what life feels like. My album ranking would be, 1 bedlam, 2 deloused, 3 amputechture, 4 frances, 5 octahedron. Everything else irrelevant imo. I could honestly never get through noct
10 years ago, I had the same opinions on the albums. Now I absolutely love the more recent albums, especially the newest self-titled. I think for me it was growing from my initial attraction to TMV which was guided by trauma and aggression. Now that I've chilled out, unlearned a lot of toxic mental habits, quit my alcohol addiction, went to therapy, read a lot of history books and surrounded myself with more loving people - now I appreciate the joy and emotional nuance that they express in the later albums. Don't get me wrong, the old shit is all hard as fuck but I can put on Octahedron and love every track. I feel my taste has also expanded far beyond what I thought was already diverse 10 years ago. I continue to go out my comfort zone and try to draw inspiration from anywhere I can, including from a lot of music that's considered "bad" by most people, like extremely off-key singing from artists with very little experience. I even know advanced music theory from studying and performing music over the course of almost 20 years now, which made me care less about technical skill and more about expression. I stopped caring about "good" vs "bad" and I've been more at peace since I stopped seeing art as a competition. I know it might sound like I'm on my high horse but I'm so sincere. I hope more people get to have similar experiences.
I heard that ATDI split because Cedric and Omar were heavy into heroine and the other three ATDI guys got tired of their drug use. Years ago Omar discussed this in an interview. A couple of albums into TMV, Cedric and Omar cleaned up.
I always thought their first and last albums were their best. Everything in between is a good listen but does not match up! In fact Nocturnaquet was the first album of theirs I listened to when it first came out and it's still my (second) favorite! Malkin Jewel is my FAVORITE Mars Volta song and to each their own!
you're wrong about their last album. superior to octahedron in every respect. And did what he tried to do much better than amputechre did what it tried to do. Nicely subtle concept album
I understand it is your opinion, but i will comment in defense of Noctourniquet: it has their overall best writing since Frances does it feel underbaked? previous three albums felt underbaked as well Sure there were some really weak songs, like malkin jewel and whip hand, but i like most of the rest In Absentia, Aegis, Imago, Vedamalady, Empty Vessels, Zed are Solid songs In comparison, Octahedron has maybe two okay songs and it is sonically just a flavorless volta sound Amputechture has good parts between a sea of inconsistent ones, a messy flow and many awkward transitions.
anyone that shits on noctourniquet needs to listen to that album again, it seriously is not as bad as people make it out to be. theres legit some amazing songs on it and its definitely different but also interesting in its own way. you niggas just need to open up your minds a lil more. also this vid would be like 8 mins shorter if you cut out all your stupid jokes and memes
surprised no comments about the Loudness Wars and awful mix on Bedlam. It's an unlistenable record to me, much like Arrows and Anchors from Fair to Midland or Vapor Trails to an extent from Rush, the mixing work Rich Cotsey did on Bedlam is nothing short of appalling. Which is odd because considering the work he had done, and done since, the cymbals and the hot mix, especially on the 1st 6 tracks, it's hard to understand. My best guess is the band themselves wanted the mix hot and the cymbals clipping, which ultimately ruined what was a really well written album. Also surprised no mention of Rick Rubin. But love for Frances and DeLoused I'm with you. . But I seem to be in the minority to find Noctourniquet to be a worthy final album (if it is). The biggest moments on it, along with not having any mixing issues overall, made that album a lot more desirable to listen to regularly, which Bedlam and Amputechture I can't say the same about. Not much a fan of the ATDI comeback album. It was a bit better than the highly forgettable Antemasque record they made. Zavalaz is the 1 project I have been a bit optimistic about since their breakup. But I also saw 1 interview earlier this year saying they very likely will comeback and release new music again; which if the ATDI reunion is short-lived, I could easily see.
I really appreciate whomever made this video. Don’t hate on me But I love Bedlam in Goliath . U took the time to make this video . We need more. Videos . I am sure u r a great guy Yes , the first mars Volta album is amazing . I am a lyricist and guitar player. Unless u can play Mars Volta note for note ,,don’t ever put down mars Volta U have no idea how much talent they have Seriously, u need to pick up a guitar . Omar is a fuckin genius. U know the critics hated Led Zeppelin.
Flea and John should've been Volta members fulltime, instead of session players. Talking Heads had 2 guitarists and 2 bassists during their 1980 and 1983 tours trading lead parts. Why couldn't Volta take that approach? They're severely underutilized in their preferred careers. The final 40 secs of "Scar Tissue" is probably (and purposely) the worst guitar solo I've ever heard on a 9x platinum record. Going from that to his tracking on Amputechture, where he plays 85-90% of the lead parts, it's like night and day. You don't hear this much versatility/virtuosity in his playing, unless you count 'Mother's Milk' and parts of 'The Empyrean'. But to take it back a bit, Amputechture was him playing at his absolute limits. Like he hit the proverbial ceiling with that one.
Cool your jets on OCT and NOC it’s good - Ceds Vocals have always been Ceds Vocals and they were sobering up so cool your GD jets. better than 9/10 profs out there… sure we can find a middle ground. You don’t even know. Hope you getting tube checks in nicest way possible.
Frances The Mute is one of my favorite Prog Albums of all time. Such a masterpiece!
Cheers from France! 🍻
