Babycakes, after having a baby your hair is going to change, a lot. Many women experience hair loss and it could be the baby hairs you are seeing are new growth after that hair loss. Your body just went through something major, its going to take some time to go back to normal.

I don't think there is a solution for it because the hair is so thin and fragile. Thankfully it's only around the edges. If I had a whole head of this... I don't even want to know

Amber, don’t forget that you’re also only 7 months postpartum! Postpartum hair loss is real and I see it all the time behind the chair in my salon. Most of what you think is breakage (especially around the hairline) is actually new growth. The best way to tell is that new hair has a very fine, pointed end, breakage has a blunt or raggedy end. Yes haircare is important, but cut yourself a little slack! Hormones and stress are huge players in the hair game! ♥️

I was guilty of neglecting my hair after I had my baby too. I just felt like he needed me more than I needed to do my hair and plus it was shedding so much, I didn't want to touch it. Now that he's a little older and more independent and I'm not having to pump milk all the time, I have more time to take care of myself. I usually do protective styles so I don't have to worry about doing it for a couple weeks. Its getting better now. One positive thing about being in quarantine for me is I’m no longer on the go every day allowing me to leave my hair alone since I work from home. For someone like me, I know protective styles help but I don’t have the patience for sitting to get my hair done or putting braids in myself anymore. So I just twist it up or braid my own hair and leave it be. Best decision for my hair. I’m leaving it alone, using less products, and moisturizing my scalp every other day. The growth has been amazing!

What I've noticed a lot with my small sample size of myself and a few mom friends is that we tend to put ourselves as a last priority and our identity becomes mother. When we eventually find our way out of that and realize mom is a part of what we are but not our whole identity we can take a step back and see the damage we've done to our bodies and hair lol. I rocked the mom bun, am currently pregnant with my second and the exhaustion means the mom bun gets rocked almost as much as it did during my daughter's first year which is a shame because my hair was super healthy again and my curls looked amazing. My friends and I have all gone out with our kids together as well and all 4 of us had the mom bun going.
With ALL that said I'm so glad your taking the time to take care of yourself and your hair. We need this level of self care as well.

I had my daughter in December and my hair changed completely. It’s more dry so I’ve to be super gentle. So I keep up on my treatments for my hair. The shedding was bad but it’s under control now. Since I been so good about my treatments I feel like my hair is definitely thicker and has grown. For the damage I had I tried olaplex and it saved my hair. The number 3,4 and 5. Amazing!!!

Pre poo my hair with Aloe Vera from the plant doing the lco method with either adowa beauty or melanin beauty products, Jamaican black castor oil and leaving my hair in twists and rewashing it every 2 weeks has been working.

Hi Amber! Please include us in your hair journey again :) my hair is also in a very damaged state and I am trying my best to keep it healthy but I am doing it all wrong, i know since i do not see the change and I am soooooo intrigued by what you are about to do girl hehehe I have watch some of your past videos where your hair were able to handle the cheaper products like you mention... so I would really like to follow your hair journey on going to natural products again, the effect it has on your hair etc. I am quite exited. My baby is two years now and I must say I have neglect a lot on my hair becoming a new mom and I cant get rid of my bad habbits. So I am watching your space :) Much love

Girl, I recommend the “telephone cord” hair ties. You can literally scoop your hair up and only put it round once and your hair will not move. I was really ill the last couple of years and my hair was SUCH a mess. I did a chop (collar bone) and looked after it. 9 months later she’s looking a lot better. So the fact that you’re acknowledging the mistakes you made, means your hair will be back in no time! (Ps. You’re glowing, pretty mama!)

It’s probably from the pregnancy too. My hair became weak and weird after I gave birth to my daughter. I just kept it in twists or braids and kept it moisturize. I learn a few years ago to not keep my hair in a bun every day 😬😬.

  • @reneezancewoman
    @reneezancewoman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I can't even blame pregnancy. My hair finally got some length in 2017. Then some thangs changed. Went from keeping it in twists most of the time, steaming and deep conditioned every two weeks when I took them out to wash. My hair was loving it. But the industry I started working in frowned on twists. So my hair was out a lot more, it was being handled differently, and it started having those transparent ends. 😭 Now working from home and feeling like I'm constantly working, I can't seem to get back on that every two week regimen. My hair HAS been a mess during quarantine. Picture a middle part with two little bantu style balls at my nape with a dry, brittle mess underneath 😭😭😭. Nape and hairline a wreck...

Literally my own laziness. I started well with protective styling during quarantine and then reverted to my high puff. I'm so triggered.. I washed my hair yesterday and didn't even deep condition or moisturise. I will be doing both things later today!

I wear a bun all the time. Have you ever tried a spin pin. I wonder if they would work for you. I use them when my hair is wet. But of course our hair is different. Don’t think I have seen a review from you on them
Edit. I am also a mom and I am very bad about taking care of my hair. I wash once
A week and brush once a week. Mom life can be hard

We both are new moms and having a toddler running around I neglected my hair so much. I’ve experienced a lot of similar problems with my hair. I decided to stop braiding my hair with synthetic only human hair, because my hair is always tangled when I took my protective style braids down. I switched to hair products I used in the past that are herbal shampoo and conditioner to regrow my hair to get back my thick full long hair and edges back. I had severe postpartum shedding I was freaking out by how much my hair came out and how thin was hair was. My hair is gradually getting thicker, longer and my edges are growing back. I’ve been using Mielle Rosemary mint scalp hair strengthening oil and hair mask. I’ve seen a tremendous difference in the past 4-6 weeks.

I know what u mean about the edges situation. My hair is similar and I wear a bun or ponytail all the time. So now I bought a couple satin and velvet scrunchies. It did help. 🤗🤗

This quarantine actually gave me the time to do my hair properly. It gets washed dc and twisted up.and now im on blowing it out to keep it stretched and this next wash day after I take these twists out , I'm gonna do what you dis bcus mt hair has thinned out a lot for meditation and surgeries. Im adding more protein and keeping it happy. I dont go anywhere anymore so I dont do styles like I used to. Im lazy natual too. Ive been natural my whole life and I transitioned from heat styles in 2k9. Grew my hair to tailbone in 2k16 and had to cut it to above bra strap bcus of heat damage. Then i went thru post surgery shedding like crazy. My shedding was like yours and my edges are super thin. So, I'm on this journey to healthy hair doing ayurveda masks protien and protective styles and trimming. Soon as my stylist opens ims get my hair shaped.

Honestly sis..... this video makes me so happy knowing I’m not the only one. 😅😂😂 the buns, breakage, headaches from detangling. Girl. So I thought to myself: what’s the ultimate protective style so I can let my edges rest but still take care of my scalp. Locs! Girl I locked my hair last Saturday with 2 strand twists and I haven’t looked back 😅😂😂. And the funniest part is I’ve been taking so much better care of my hair now lmao. Moisturizing my scalp every other day and spraying water on my locs lol. I love it. But yea girl the struggle is real with loose natural hair. That’s for sure. Love ur videos!

In Quarantine I just desperately needed a cut because I had a grown out dry balayage. Hadn't had a cut since December and my dry damaged ends were tangling like crazy. But the main mistake I make is self care in general. Among that washing regularly is so hard for me. I trained my scalp to go longer without a wash because everyone says the longer you can go the better but i got into bad self care habits and eventually my scalp started suffering. Didn't look bad but just kind of sore like it had been in a tight pony but it hadn't. So instead of weekly or every 10 days i am trying to wash twice a week. It's a struggle but its definitely helping.

I love my buns but I wear loose buns on stretched (braid/twist out) hair. It looks more like a messy bun, but neat, and I never bun wet hair. :) I also use velvet scrunchies to secure my hair and I ever twist the scrunchies or hair ties, I just put it over my hair, and I pin my "ponytail" into a bun. Fortunately, my hair is dense and long enough that I don't need to secure it more.

Great video. I have a few questions. I live in a hot & humid climate. My hair is always thrown up in a bun. I tend to do it w/ a scrunchie & not tight, but still. Any other hairstyles to keep my hair up & not cause damage? Maybe do a video w/ a couple of styles.
Also can you make a video w/ updated products explaining leave in conditioner, oil & the other item you said? Thanks, from one wild mane to another.
