I seem to have good luck with blooming Rebutia on my windowsill. Living in MT, there's no way I can really give them a real cool rest, but enclosing them between the window pane and the curtain during the night seems to do the trick well enough for them to bloom for me. Your collection is wonderful, and I've learned so much from you! Thank you, Ana!

I’m glad you find this helpful. Yes, many Rebutia look alike without their flowers. So showing them with flowers I think is the best way. I had to wait for the day where I had most of my rebutias in flower to make this video. Thanks, Vicki!
Really liked this vid. Request? Would you please make a vid on how to tell the difference between a Rebutia and a Mammillaria. If you're going cactus shopping, and you want one or the other, how can you distinguish between the two? Thanks for the vid Anna.
Hello! Love this video on rebutia! My friend just gotten rebutia albiflora and was just thinking of asking for offsets, but thankfully this video came on time before I kill another living ones! Just curious, I thought grafted plants are not possible to propagate by offsets anymore due to being grafted into one single plant?
Thanks Ana! You just told me what's up with my heliosa cuttings. I had one like yours and of course the dragon fruit stock failed. I kept the heliosa pieces and have had them trying to root for months!! They have flower buds!! But not one root!! Ok so now that I know I think it's time to graft!! Yours looks fine!! Good job!! Great informative video!! From Morris park in the Ozarks out to Las Vegas have a great evening Ana!!! And your Rebutias look spectacular!!!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!!✌💖🌵🌺🌴🌸🌲🌷💐🌿🌻🌹
Oh my, so I’m not the only one having a hard time rooting a heliosa! I tried 2 batches of pups but none rooted until each one shrunk like a prune. You know how dry our weather is so either they root quick or the air will suck all the water out of the cutting. 🤣 So I took my smallest columnar and grafted one. To my surprise, it stayed on! 😃 Amazing how yours still flowered even with no roots.
I'm a fan of Rebutias because of your videos! In fact, I'm expecting a delivery today from Planet Desert with another rebutia. I wanted to feed my cacti but we had rain the other day and there's some drizzle expected later in the week. How long should I wait to feed them after the rain? I want to get those super blooms going! :) Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I really appreciate your videos!
I was inspired to buy a rebutia cactus today. It is being shipped about 3 hours to me from the big city. It has a yellow flower and is sold as ***Massive cluster*** lol! So I'm expecting big things. Very cheap though.
Oh that’s exciting! “Massive cluster”, lol! I hope that really is what you get. 😉 In any case, Rebutia pups heavily. You will get a cluster in no time. 😃
I only have a handful of sulcorebutia so I can’t really make a general care instruction yet for it. But some classify sulcorebutia with Rebutia while some consider them as part of lobivia. The taxonomists can’t agree. 🥴 But I notice my sulcorebutia produce less but bigger flowers than rebutia.
I've had a very different experience with my Rebutia. I've got a pseudodeminuta and it has been very easy to root the offsets. It blooms in midsummer, but that might be because I can't give it a cool winter dormancy. It gets cool and dry conditions in fall and spring so it's operating on a very different kind of schedule.
That’s interesting how they respond to conditions despite it being not normal. It is good to know too that deminuta roots easily. Thanks for the info, Janet.
I found a small barrel cactus like those in Utah and I replanted them in a pot and they look like they’re starting to flower. Are all of those barrel varieties called rebutia?
Hmm... Barrels are usually Echinopsis or Ferocactus species. Rebutia are small and clumping. But that is exciting if yours is starting to produce flowers. You can ID it better once you see its flowers. 😃
Hi Anna, great video, rebutias are my best flowering cacti. But i really want to ask u. I dont water them so much , so when i repotted them yesterday i found thta the soil is very dry also the roots. But the cactus itself looks mushy. Is that rotting or it is under watered?
Underwatered cactus can also feel soft. If it is rot, only the base will feel soft and if you press it, it feels like there is liquid or even hallow. If the base has turned brown, most likely it is rotting. But you said you haven’t been watering it so double check, it might just be thirsty.
How do you ID a Rebutia Cactus? I have several baby cacti which I grew from seed (Mixed Seed Pack), and several cacti I purchased that are unidentified. Thank you for any advise. *HUGS* P.s I love your blooms! So beautiful.
Rebutias are hard to ID as there are so many new cultivars. The ones that I have an ID, it's because I bought them with tags. I also grew some from a mixed seed packs and those don't have ID's up to now. There are some Rebutia groups on Facebook. Those specific cactus groups are helpful in giving IDs.
Hi, I did like a lot of your videos. They helped me a lot. May I ask: I had some Rebutia. I saw some of them have Summer Dormancy instead Winter. So what do I do when the Summer comes: water them or leave them dry? Let me know, please. I appreciate.
th-cam.com/video/0opez8XQ3uE/w-d-xo.html Here is a video I made about summer dormancy. I mentioned in this video that my Rebutia goes summer dormant. 😉
Hi, I just bought a Rebutia Senilis I think? It may not be that Varr? It has one mother plant and 12 pups around it , in a 4 inch plastic pot. It looks very tight for all of the,m? Should I transplant them to a bigger pot? Maybe a 6 inch pot. I want to keep them together and not break them up.
To me, Rebutia looks better as a clump. That’s when you get a bouquet of flowers. I would keep them together in maybe a wider (but not deep) pot. Rebutia roots don’t go very deep. But if you want to propagate, you may break them apart as well.
It depends on the temperature. When my rebutias flowered in late winter, each flower opened and closed for 5 days. But now that our temperature here is in the low 90s, each flower lasts only for 2 days. But since one Rebutia can have many buds, you can have a display of flowers for a week or 2. 🙂
Etiolation is caused by lack of sunlight. But another reason that a cactus may grow in an unnatural form is over fertilization. Try to find out which one is yours.
Ok.. I think i have this cactus. Its small but it has 2 clumps. I thought it was a echinopsis , a notocactus, or a mammallaria...I still don't know 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️

The flowers and a Mam is very distinctive. with its flowers. Plenty of photo's on the web showing flowers.
Las rebutias se distinguen por tener un "hundimiento" en la parte de arriba del cactus, eso no tienen las mamillarias.
