I am so sorry to hear about that John. I sincerely hope you will be on your way to full recovery soon. 🙏🏼 That’s nice of you to say your dad was kind. 😉 That reminded me of my ocotillo with no leaves. My husband burned them thinking they were just dead sticks on the ground! 😄
Thank you so very much, for such great detailing. I have an echinopsis oxygens/Easter Lily cactus/barrel cactus? When I bought it, it grew very long stemmed large white flowers. They only lasted 1 day. So beautiful. But, I have had it for 3 years now and it has never bloomed since the first year. It has lots of pups, so I just took them off, to propagate and hope to het blooms this year. It is winter here- right now in the Upstate NY (USA). Can you offer any suggestions?
Wow, you have an amazing collection! Quick question: I live in SoCal (Rancho Cucamonga area), and I was wondering if you know if we can only start growing cactus from seeds during early early summer or whenever. I ask because since I live in SoCal, we don’t really get a harsh winter. Thanks for any info!
Hi Ana! I started my cacti collection around August and I am looking forward to seeing them in the Spring! You said you filmed on Feb 28th, would you say that is when cacti start to leave winter dormancy?
The time that they come out of winter dormancy varies depending on your climate. When I made that video, it was already warming up in Las Vegas. But in other parts of the US or the world, it was still snowing! 🥶 This year, it might be on a different time as well depending on our weather. If you see new spines or buds coming out on many cacti of yours, then that could be a sign that your cacti are coming out of dormancy. 🙂
I was watching a year old TH-cam of yours. You had Lica pellets or beads on your Steno cactus. Was this top dressing or did it fill the whole pot? And how did you like the Lica?
It was just top dressing as I ran out of top dressing rocks to use at that time. I only did that one pot using leca. I did not like it because in the summer, my soil would dry out fast. I live in a desert so the air is hot and dry. Rocks as top dressing helps me retain moisture longer in my soil during summer. In winter, the leca formed white molds on top because it was cold and humidity is higher. I eventually changed the top dressing into small rocks.
Oh this is great. I'm glad to hear you've done your first watering/fertilizing. It's getting close for me. It's still cold here but some of my cactus are putting on new growth already so it's almost time.
Almost spring but not yet. But almost. Hahaha. I can’t wait. We are getting rainy days right now but hopefully, beautiful days are coming up. Thanks Des!
Hi, i just subscribe in your chanel and i find it helpful to me. Just start liking cactus last year. I have a question, what do you do on the baby cactus form the mother cactus? Do you plant it or discard them? The cactus i have has so may baby cactus, had planted the others but there are some more.
Hi and welcome! I am happy to meet somebody who has just been bitten by the cactus bug. 😉😃I plant the babies. If you have more than what you want, you can always gift them to friends. 🌵☕️
@@CactusCaffeine Hey, Connie, a good tip I learned is if you find a cactus is rotting, remove it from the soil, cut off all of the rotten parts until only healthy flesh is left, let it callous over, then replant in dry soil. It will be smaller of course but it will root and start growing again. Water when it looks a little wrinkled or looks a bit collapsed.
Thank you. Do you ever use Fish Fertilizer? I have now purchased several cats because of your inspiring videos and have a new mindset towards cacti. Thank you. Also do you withhold water in winter on all cacti? Don't some need more moisture than others like epiphytes? I'm in S. Florida (tropical climate) Zone 10
Aww. I am happy some people start seeing cactus in a different light. That is one of my goals to let people look beyond the spines and see their overall beauty especially the flowers! 🌸 🌺 🌼 I use my aquarium water for my roses and other bushes. I am hesitant to use them on cactus because they are high in nitrogen. It can encourage rapid and weak growth on cactus.
Yestoday i got some seeds to grow them but i just ued soil bc i have nothink else and i have some more cacti in my room thats been there for like a year ive never seen them but so should i move them and i collect suckulants too and with my seeds i had no cap so i put cleng film on it is that alright?
Anna, if red bottle Levington Tomorite says 20 Ml for 1 gallon, so you use 10 ml for 1/2 gallon. the weather in NY has been in 90's, Do you fertilizer the following week, or you dont use again?
I use half the strength so 10ml per gallon. I water that 2-3x during spring. Alternatively, you can dilute the fertilizer to a third or fourth and mix it every time you water. 🙂
Is it ok to fertilize them even i only repot them for a month? Planning to repot by the end of the month (january) and fertilize by end of february. Thanks 😊
Yes, that is a good idea. If you watch my interview with Brent Wigand, that is exactly what he suggests. Honestly, I was not aware of that when I made this video. 😉
I think it would work as well. This is the only tomato fertilizer brand that I used so far. I like it better than a slow-release granule so I can control when my cacti gets their feeding for flowering. 🙂
Yes, because rain seldom happens here. But I let the water stand for at least 24 hours so the chlorine will evaporate. I also add vinegar to the water to get the pH level to around 6.5.
The cutting should fully callous over/dry at the part where the cut was made before it can be planted. How long depends on the humidity, temperature as well as the size of the cutting. 🙂🌵☕️
I do mine twice in spring, the first two deep watering of the season. Then after that I switch back to my regular fertilizer made for cactus and succulents. 🙂🌵☕️
Winter temperature here in Las Vegas gets down to the low 30F. Occasionally, it would get down lower to about 28F with some snow. Although winter is very cold, it is short compared to other places. Around end March, it usually starts warming up.🙂 Thanks for watching!
because i stay in Germany that so cold and snow here in Winter..then i need to know how can take care.. am scary to leave them outside...then i ask you about temperature...Thank you so much..am Fc of your TH-cam. 👍🏻
Anna, tu for your reply on my tablet, but once I clicked on it, I could not find your reply. How many ounces of water for my 7 cactuses with how many ounces of Levington Tomorite tomato fertilizer mixed together. Thank you. Annabella Steiger
I am not sure if we still have the same formulation for the Tomorite because I got mine several years ago. But whatever is the recommendation in the bottle, I only use half the strength.
Well... I found a fish fertilizer. it was $1 for a 32oz ....have you ever tried that on your cactus?? I figured I'll try it on my houseplants in the spring when everything starts to wake up...🤔🤔🤔
Im sorry but I am unfamiliar with what is available there. I suggest you ask Carl of Desert Plant Diary here on TH-cam. He lives in India, too. Tell him Ana sent you over. 😉🌵☕️
Hmm... Tomato fertilizer is not available here unfortunately.... Can i use muriate of potash 0-0-60 instead...? It seems to have no nitrogen in it... _(._.) _
I believe any fertilizer meant for blooming may work. The tomato fertilizers usually have higher phosphorus and potassium so maybe any fertilizer with the same formula may work. Though I have not tried others yet. Good luck!
I have done the 2 times treatment with the tomato fertilizer. Now it is hot during the afternoon. When is the best time to water my cactus? Morning or late afternoon?
I water late in the afternoon when the temp cools down. That way your plants have time to absorb the water and be hydrated before it gets too hot again the next day. 🙂

Also, I only withhold watering on my desert cactus. My epiphytes actually grow in fall/winter here and stay dormant in the summer heat. 😃🌵☕️
Thank u so much
Hi..can you pls.recomend to me which fertiliser i use for new growers cacti
I just use any commercially available fertilizer specifically formulated for cactus or succulents. One with low nitrogen is preferred.
Yr place is really neat. Love yr collection! 👍🏻
Yestoday i got some seeds to grow them but i just ued soil bc i have nothink else and i have some more cacti in my room thats been there for like a year ive never seen them but so should i move them and i collect suckulants too and with my seeds i had no cap so i put cleng film on it is that alright?
Cling film on top of seedlings will work as well. 🙂
Thanks 😊
Hi Ana, was wondering if it’s necessary to spray the cactus with plain water after fertilizer makes contact to prevent fertilizer burn?
Yes, that is a good idea. If you watch my interview with Brent Wigand, that is exactly what he suggests. Honestly, I was not aware of that when I made this video. 😉
How about using Tomatoe-tone granules. That was all i could find at the time. :/
I think it would work as well. This is the only tomato fertilizer brand that I used so far. I like it better than a slow-release granule so I can control when my cacti gets their feeding for flowering. 🙂
What kind of water miss anna you mix in your tomato fertilizer..
Oh, just tap water. Rainwater is best but rain is scarce here in the desert. 😉
Do you use tap water to water your plants?
Yes, because rain seldom happens here. But I let the water stand for at least 24 hours so the chlorine will evaporate. I also add vinegar to the water to get the pH level to around 6.5.
Tell me about homemade tomato fertilizer
Can fertilizer burn cactus (on the skin)? Can we use dry fertilizers
How long it Take to wait for the cut cactus to be planted
The cutting should fully callous over/dry at the part where the cut was made before it can be planted. How long depends on the humidity, temperature as well as the size of the cutting. 🙂🌵☕️
What name of this fertilizante and produce firm ? Thanks
The brand is Levington Tomorite (from the UK)
Hi, how often we will apply the tomato fertilizer?
I do mine twice in spring, the first two deep watering of the season. Then after that I switch back to my regular fertilizer made for cactus and succulents. 🙂🌵☕️
Cactus Caffeine Thank you :)
i need to ask you abouy ..How many temperature on winter there ? because i need to take my Cactus outside same you too..thank you so much
Winter temperature here in Las Vegas gets down to the low 30F.
Definitely protect them from snow. Ideal temperature should not fall below 40F for desert type cactus.
When is it time to. Fertilize? Like March??
When there is no more forecast of frost in your location and temperatures are going up, then you may start fertilizing. 🌵☕️🙂
Ok.. mine are indoors only. They should be out-of dormant stage by March or April???
@@michellec.4994 wait for signs of new growth or colors becoming more vibrant to be sure. 😉
Well... I found a fish fertilizer. it was $1 for a 32oz ....have you ever tried that on your cactus?? I figured I'll try it on my houseplants in the spring when everything starts to wake up...🤔🤔🤔
Can you please suggest a similar fertilizer available in India? I have never got flowers
Im sorry but I am unfamiliar with what is available there. I suggest you ask Carl of Desert Plant Diary here on TH-cam. He lives in India, too. Tell him Ana sent you over. 😉🌵☕️
@@CactusCaffeine sure will do that
Hi, I’m back again... so I removed the fake flower from my baby cactus and I accidentally ripped it. Is it okay to water while it’s healing?
Mam Anna may i see your entire green house?..please....requesting here Mam Anna..✌️✌️❤️❤️
Nanette Galleros hi, in my next video, I will show my greenhouse and gave you a shoutout. 😉🌵
Here in Denmark we can not water like that. We have to much chalk in the water so it would leave ugly stains
Hi, where i can find this fertilizer in Rome?
If you cannot find one in garden shops, maybe there are some that you can order online?
@@CactusCaffeine yes, i will🏵️🌵🌺🌈☕🥨
I live in the UK. If u want this fertilisers I can send u a bottle
Sana may tomato fertilizer dn dito sa pinas😢
Wala ba, ate? Try mo online.
Good luck!
@@CactusCaffeine oh... Thank you~ (O///O)/💕
