    I'm happy to see this video. I love this cactus. I recently got one. Mine is a tiny baby. Of yours I like the one that's bigger with the two flowers. I just like hotter pinks than lighter ones. So cool you've grown your own seedlings. I would love to breed my own but so far only have one and coudln't get a pair at the time like I would have liked. I'm sure I'll get another eventually, but mine is too small to flower I think. I hope it will get as big as yours. Eeep, I worry about mine now. I got it from Planet Desert and just kept it in the pot they sent. I didn't repot it since I figured they have good soil. Sounds like one that needs my inoragnic mix.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scary Fear Planet Desert’s soil is very gritty. Mostly perlite. So you should not worry about it staying wet. Don’t worry about not getting a pair for yours... seeds are on their way there. 😉

    i got 20 of them i grew from seed. they are about 2 inches tall, i just now started wondering why they weren't pink yet and started looking into it to find out that they are not "rubispinus"! lol. they look good tho. i ordered 2 packs of rubispinus from mesa and those are under lights right now. they were fairly easy to get going from seed.

    • @CactusCaffeine

    Very useful information. Thank you. I have one of these and I definitely just leaned some new stuff out it. One question, you mentioned that this cactus doesn't form clumps but mine is a cluster of three. So I'm wondering if it's offsets like I originally thought or if I need to separate into three pots? Would really appreciate hearing from you.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seldom produces offsets although it is possible when it is mature. If your trio is still young, it was probably planted together as seedlings. You don’t need to separate them as long as their growth is not affected. Some like the clumping look as it gives a natural look on them. 😉

    • @DaughterOfTheWild
      @DaughterOfTheWild 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CactusCaffeine Thank you very much for the prompt reply & the help. My trio is still young as the largest was only 2.25" when I bought it a few yrs ago. They seem to be stretching out rather badly even though I have them in a south facing window during the winter months. It makes me sad that they don't seem to be happy and am wondering what you would suggest I do.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try taking them outside under direct morning sun, gradually increasing the time that they get direct sunlight. This cactus loves sun. Do it gradually to acclimatize them first.

    • @DaughterOfTheWild
      @DaughterOfTheWild 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CactusCaffeine I do this every spring & right now they are sitting on the south-east side of the house. Unfortunately I live in Michigan and can't have them outside during the winter. Should I invest in a sunlight or do you have another suggestion?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ideally, they should not be growing in winter. At fall, start encouraging them to grow dormant by watering less until none at all. Also, do not fertilize during fall. If you have enough plants, you may invest in a growlight if you wish. It is although the more costly route. 🙂

  • @melp9884

    I have a quick question how do I take care of rainbow cactus in Michigan I want grow and do not want leave outside in the winter because temperatures can be below zero some nights and days. Is there a way indoors I could try to grow it and leave it outdoors in the summer and spring and take indoors when it rains thank you for reading this

      Yes you could do that but indoors, try not to keep it too warm or it won’t go in dormancy. The winter dormancy helps it to flower in spring. Protect it from too much rain as this can be rot prone. Plant it in a very gritty mix. Good luck! 🙂

    How long does it take for a cactus bloom to open? I have a cactus the is in bud and it has opened a little bit but doesn't go ahead and open up. It has been doing this for about a week and half. It is by a north window and under grow lights. Thank you for your info.

      To get them to open up like this, it takes a lot of heat. If they do not find an enabling climate they usually open in half or also the cactus can throw the button before ripening it.

      Like Jacobo said, some cactus flowers require heat or some likes direct sun to make their flowers open fully. Try moving your flower to a sunny window in the morning. 🙂

    How old is that cactus?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moki and Miko I don’t know the exact age. I got them when they were the size of a billiard ball about 3 years ago. One is shorter and grows slowly while the other one with 2 flowers grows taller fast.

    Have you eve4 considering trying the hot nail trick on this one?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maria Gieske haha. NO! I’ve never actually done the hot nail on any of my cactus. The only one I have is the one that Rob Roy gave me when he taught me how to do it. This type of cactus is not easy to find so I don’t want to experiment on this one. 🤭

      Oh, I am sorry to hear that. 😔There are more sellers of this type of cactus now. Hopefully prices will go down on this and you can probably get a new one once more.
