The entire point of Rob was to give a reason to buy the system other than just videogames because retailers did not want to take a risk selling a product people weren't buying. Luisa Robinson I lost 2 360's and switched to ps3. Worth every penny and it's still running smooth. Although by the time I bought a ps3 I could only get the first gen slim but it's still awesome.

My dad managed to revive the retro PS3 and retrieve data on it to a USB drive.

I don't know what to say....
Here are the tricks I employed, step by step, that fixed my red ringed console that lasted from 05'-13': -Take console outside, lay out a tarp neatly on concrete -Set console in the center of tarp, on either side -Disassemble the plastic body parts from the steal casing using hand tools -Lay the casing with all the electrical components gently in center of tarp -Find any readily available 4 lb+, hardened steal, rubber handled dead-blow hammer -Line up head of hammer with center of steal casing, raise hammer in air -Proceed to forcefully contact the steal casing in all areas with hammer repetitively -Continue to destroy steal casing for several minutes, contorting the shape into oblivion -Be sure console, and plastic pieces, are indistinguishable from their original form -Wrap up the contents in tarp neatly so you can carry it in a bundle -Toss into nearest trash bin -Buy new 360

You're kinda pushing the line of fair use here, it's not very transformative to take clips from videos about game accessories and use them in a video about game accessories. Also, another determining factor is whether or not your video could be seen as a replacement for the video you're taking clips from and in this case I'd say that's also too close to call. However, let's assume this is fair use, just barely, it's still a really shitty thing to do.

There were two actual problems: 1, most people never read instructions when setting up technical things, and are often terrible at it in any case (though they will always always always believe they did it right), and 2, there was ONE game, Super Glove Ball, that was actually designed for the thing (and as far as I know, not actually playable with any other controller). Using the glove on any other game required even MORE setup. The more effort the consumer needs to put in, the less likely they are to actually do any of it right. Particularly back then, when most people werent used to "high-tech" stuff to begin with. Super Glove Ball was a great game, which I've played quite a bit... the control of it, with the glove, always worked perfectly, but that's because I used it correctly. It's actually *very* accurate, which is impressive for such an ancient device. But yeah, most people dont even read the bloody manuals when it comes to stuff like this. They just haphazardly do what passes for "setup" for them, and then wonder why the car in Rad Racer wont do what they want. The biggest mistake Nintendo made with the glove was simply not making it user-friendly enough. But that's not really their fault, considering how early this thing was made. The other true downside was that, even if it had been user-friendly, it still had exactly one game made for it. A good one, but ONE game does not sell a pricey console attachment. They should have learned that much from ROB.
To be fair, R.O.B was more to actually sell the NES itself rather than support it. It was before the NES launched that we just had the Video Game Crash thanks to bombs like E.T, and not many stores back then would have wanted to sell video game systems anymore. R.O.B was more to convince the stores that the NES was a toy instead to get it on the market.
The NES was mostly a defective hardware due to its architecture and pin insertion. Inserting and press down like a VCR being prone to unable to start a game constantly flashing the screen. Contrast to the Famicom having a more user friendly design uses the top loading cartridge mechanism. Plus a sturdy console and hardware expansion in the two pins that were removed in the NES.
The original Atari 5200 also had a fire hazard as the av cable went through the power brick (or something like that) I believe. I had the 2nd version of the console I liked those controllers, although they broke a lot and were expensive to buy.

It used a higher volt amp transformer, which not under a load, produces much more voltage than the circuit could handle. That higher voltage is present if plugged into the wall first. By plugging the unit in first, the DC converter was under a load as the transformer is plugged in, thus preventing the voltage spike. The explosions were the capacitors exceeding their maximum voltage.

Crazy part, I am still finding power supplies which possess such risks. I have a cell phone charger, that if not plugged into a load, produces 36 volts DC. While it does not destroy the phone, if the charger is plugged in before the phone, the phone shuts off the charge and claims the battery is fully charged until its unplugged. Some manufacturers utilize the absolute minimum needed. We have MUCH BETTER circuitry available with much better DC voltage production. But some manufacturers try to maximize profit by using older DC converter designs.
now, to be fair about the amstrad console fault, it's generally a good idea to plug the power supply into any unit that uses a detachable power supply before plugging it into the wall, even "non-faulty" power supplies can damage electronics if you plug something into a wall first then plug it into the unit. I even almost damaged my old phone some years ago because I plugged the power cord into the power source first before plugging it into my phone; I never did that again after that.

except it was not as wide spread -its clear they had some hardware issues with some people having two or three systems fail - but to Microsoft's credit they pretty much replaced the user base with better equipment

I have 2008 falcon. Started with Gears of War 2 - ended with Metal Gear Solid 5: TPP. Now I don't turn it on too much, but it works. I changed thermal paste a couple of times and set up fan speed, though.
The NES console due to games having a hard time to start having to blow on it due to the contact insertion of the cartridge pins. Less of an issue in Japan's Famicom being a top loader.

They just haphazardly do what passes for "setup" for them, and then wonder why the car in Rad Racer wont do what they want. The biggest mistake Nintendo made with the glove was simply not making it user-friendly enough. But that's not really their fault, considering how early this thing was made. The other true downside was that, even if it had been user-friendly, it still had exactly one game made for it. A good one, but ONE game does not sell a pricey console attachment. They should have learned that much from ROB.

To be fair, R.O.B was more to actually sell the NES itself rather than support it. It was before the NES launched that we just had the Video Game Crash thanks to bombs like E.T, and not many stores back then would have wanted to sell video game systems anymore. R.O.B was more to convince the stores that the NES was a toy instead to get it on the market.

The NES was mostly a defective hardware due to its architecture and pin insertion. Inserting and press down like a VCR being prone to unable to start a game constantly flashing the screen. Contrast to the Famicom having a more user friendly design uses the top loading cartridge mechanism. Plus a sturdy console and hardware expansion in the two pins that were removed in the NES.
The original Atari 5200 also had a fire hazard as the av cable went through the power brick (or something like that) I believe. I had the 2nd version of the console I liked those controllers, although they broke a lot and were expensive to buy.

That issue was caused by the way the power supply created it's 11 volt DC.
It used a higher volt amp transformer, which not under a load, produces much more voltage than the circuit could handle.
That higher voltage is present if plugged into the wall first.
By plugging the unit in first, the DC converter was under a load as the transformer is plugged in, thus preventing the voltage spike.
The explosions were the capacitors exceeding their maximum voltage.
Oh so playing with this piece of junk was just like playing inside a substation, with electrocution and fires just waiting to happen….

Crazy part, I am still finding power supplies which possess such risks.
I have a cell phone charger, that if not plugged into a load, produces 36 volts DC.
While it does not destroy the phone, if the charger is plugged in before the phone, the phone shuts off the charge and claims the battery is fully charged until its unplugged.
Some manufacturers utilize the absolute minimum needed. We have MUCH BETTER circuitry available with much better DC voltage production. But some manufacturers try to maximize profit by using older DC converter designs.

now, to be fair about the amstrad console fault, it's generally a good idea to plug the power supply into any unit that uses a detachable power supply before plugging it into the wall, even "non-faulty" power supplies can damage electronics if you plug something into a wall first then plug it into the unit. I even almost damaged my old phone some years ago because I plugged the power cord into the power source first before plugging it into my phone; I never did that again after that.
I remember when I was about to get the Xbox 360 as my friend had also bought one, it was going to be my first console but then he got the red ring of death. Thankfully, I just got a PC
About a month ago my x-box 360 had the red circle of death appear, but it just went away after my dad came in and started hitting it.

except it was not as wide spread -its clear they had some hardware issues with some people having two or three systems fail - but to Microsoft's credit they pretty much replaced the user base with better equipment

I have 2008 falcon. Started with Gears of War 2 - ended with Metal Gear Solid 5: TPP. Now I don't turn it on too much, but it works. I changed thermal paste a couple of times and set up fan speed, though.

The NES console due to games having a hard time to start having to blow on it due to the contact insertion of the cartridge pins. Less of an issue in Japan's Famicom being a top loader.

adrian I worked for GameStop during the brought of the PS2's reign (still EB Games at the time). The amount of PS2's I saw come back defective with the infamous 'disc read error' was unreal. You never hear about that though...
