I think later on opening will be better. Right now is not a food time for it. For some use cases it will be food but it's already kinda pricey. A kit runs around 120 for them both.
Love it. Nice to see more people are doing this. I’m converting my ev800Ds to 1920 oled. Yours is way more elegant though. For anyone who wants to do this. Basically all you need is a screen with hdmi in. To support analog get a diversity receiver and a 5 USD av2hdmi converter (take it out of the box and cut off the rca connectors). Another guy did a video on the analog to hdmi conversion. I’ll run analog and probably give openIPC a go when it’s matured a bit.
@@faequeenapril6921 the ev800ds aren’t optimal. You can use the headmount and lens. Then I’d get a cheap diversity receiver. It’s probably the same as the one in the goggles but has a nice display and controls for the channels. The problem with the ev800s is that channel and band is displayed on the screen that is removed. Because I wanted to hack around I built my own control board and small display and control the receivers with that instead of the built in buttons. I’m adding headtracking via bluetooth so I have a microcontroller in there anyways. But it’s probably the worst way to do it :) you get the battery charge circuit for free but the dvr will only record and not playback to the new screen. Back in the day someone built a goggle out of wood. That’s the dream!
@@autonoobI have a pancake welding hood that uses a balsa wood box that is nearly weightless. I can imagine that working great for this style of goggles.
@@Kevin.L_ I didn’t know you could weld pancakes. That sounds perfect, I assume you can easily slide it away from your face when needed? What’s the cost of such a hood?
@@autonoob I think I paid close to $100 for the hood but one could make the balsa wood face section fairly easy. It's custom fitted with sandpaper, very light weight and has a wide head band. May not be cheaper or more comfortable than what he's using here but if you need to customize something balsa wood is a serious option.
ordered. I'd bought the walksnail already, and was just trying to figure out what goggle I wanted to get and put it on, or use older analogue goggles. I now have an even better/cheaper solution. Thanks so much for sharing this!
I am also working on doing this same thing. It is by far the cheapest way to get digital FPV. My only concern is latency. Have you tested the latency of the screen hooked up to the walksnail receiver? Also what is the little circuit board you're attaching between the power source and the power input of the screen? It doesn't look like it's something the screen comes with.
This is awesome! Great job, but i wish someone could make a cover for the screen so it just had the vrx built into it with the buttons accessable with 4 sma, 2 out the front and 2 out the top, basically i would like the hdmi port more protected so you don't have to deal with any wires other then the power, just remove the antennas and throw it in a case. My hdmi port is going bad on my current goggles from putting the vrx on and off going between analog and WS
Nice job. Like you, I'm a box goggle fan. For analog I'm still using one of those huge Quanum DIY Goggles I bought from Hobbyking years ago. Very immersive. It looks ridiculous, but I love it. I've considered getting the Fat Shark Recon HD, but will probably go to the dark side and get the new Avatar X goggles. Still, I admire what you put together here.
Cool project! What's the latency for that hdmi OLED monitor? I've been trying to use the WS vrx with a lcd hdmi monitor but latency is what stops me from trying it
Liquid Tape, or Liquid Electrical Tape. I use it all the time over heat shrink since it can be put on _after_ soldering, and also where heat shrink tubes wouldn't work on board connections an such.
yooo wtf maan. im researching this topic since over a week and have landed on the same oled screen from ali. started to think about how i would do the optics, and this fatshark thing is the ultimate solution 😍 now i wonder how we can get a low latency analog on this hdmi screen? could you maybe so some latency test of the screen module ? keep up the great work👌
Yeah we really need to know the latency before he gets a bunch of people to buy these parts. He didn't show them actually being used or test the latency
The Fatshark Transformers arrived to day and i must say they feel reaaally nice on the face. Maybe a little heavy, but feels very comfortable with the screen. Tested it with my oled phones screen and looks absolutely amazing. Only thing i find it gets very dimm through the two way mirror, wish it would let alittle more light through... even with my phone at max brightness im missing just a little bit of brightness. With my Poco F3 having 500-800 nits im a little scared that the aliexpress oled will be too dimm cauz it has 350nits advertised
I was searching into doing this myself but I struggled to find reasonable priced displays with refresh rate above 60hz ideally 90- 100hz, nice work tho.
Yeah finding anything with more than 60hz is hard/impossible atm. Tried the same but no lucky. But i think 60fps should be fine for now, almost no fpv googles (except hdzero) support more than 60hz hdmi input anyways
I think it is useable but really there is a good reason for 90+hz refresh rates that the new walksnail and hdzero are able to support. OpenIPC and OpenHD whilst very different to each other are just too laggy for most use cases. I think walksnail RX with a good high refresh rate display is the way to go if possible.
Really interresting, unfortunately impossible to get an FSV1103 (the fatshark transformer google kit) nowadays ... not even a clone or even similar ... Don't know why this "basic but super effective" system is not present at all in the market
Just got my screen in and it stopped working in a day. If you're going to make these just remember you need a specific piece of Chinese junk so when it stops working who knows if you can get another like it
Latency is like 70+ ms through hdmi… i cant race with mine in the sim connected to my top of the line pc. It would be awesome if skyzone had an updated low latency version that supports all of the new refresh rates for new hd systems. I have problems with lenses and I actually run the cobras without a lens.
Dude, idk if you are following the OpenIPC project, but this could end up being an excellent "companion" project to that one. Nice work!
I’m also doing a conversion and following openIPC closely :) It looks very exciting :) spread the buzz
i am in their telegram and seen someone converted this goggles to openipc digital goggles
Yes, I’ve been looking at openIPC but goggles with hdmi in are very expensive.
I think later on opening will be better. Right now is not a food time for it. For some use cases it will be food but it's already kinda pricey. A kit runs around 120 for them both.
can you please make a build video about the analog goggle?
Because the analog also looks very good and exciting.
"Thanks" for sharing your art.
love it! more diy in fpv.
love this, what the hobby is truly about. Innovating and hacking something to work for cheap
this is awesome. can you share more videos on the analog goggle? maybe a build video?

I might have to build one of these! Thanks for this awesome resource!

great video brother and amazing artwork i love it!!!!!learned a whole lot from this as well
Awsome work man, this is what I was looking for!
For This setup with an OPEN IPC RunCam and RADXA 3W + Ruby OS the latency is about 40ms
whats the name of the black goop you applied?
Great work!

This is awesome. Well done 👍🏻. I would like to build that, but I am struggling to find the fatshark goggle in the EU 😢
Very intrested about the analog diy goggles as well!
Would there be a way to make dual use goggles that can have analog and digital input?

could you maybe so some latency test of the screen module ?

ok i now pulled the trigger on the order. Ordered two types of AV to HDMI adapters to test and compare latency

How do you provide the spit video like the FS Transformer does?
Which Video receiver module is that ?
Something I don't understand, how you split the screen to have a screen for each eye ?
Great job....agree 100% as to WHY we need a decent HD BOX Goggle,....I have Avatar Goggles but Im sure these would be as good if not better.🤔🇬🇧

I appreciate that!

Can you please make a video on analog goggles .really appreciate it
Do you think you could make one with the Transformer binoculars? It has a split screen.
if you have the SE version you can use the Bino but its hard to find that screen and its only 720p
Have you measured the latency of that screen?
What receiver is on top?
Thanks! I'll give this a try.
Hi Darren, how was the latency? I wanted to know if there is any or not?
Could you share your design for the analog version as well?
Dude... You are my dude.
Really interresting, unfortunately impossible to get an FSV1103 (the fatshark transformer google kit) nowadays ... not even a clone or even similar ...

i use mine like that but it gets heavy on the head with the old screen can you do an update on video
hey where did you get the fatshark box goggles?
Nice work!
well, fins are usefull without fan because hot air goes up and as it move it suc kcold air from there :)
Well done Man 👌😊
