Cardboard, cutters, and tape for prototypes - it sounds like something my 5yr old twins would love to do during craft hour, but it’s very true - as a manufacturing consultant, I’ve always told my clients who don’t have prototypes- “get out your tape and scissors and just get started” . Spot on👌👌
Having my product designed without weight in mind was a big miss. Being slightly over 1 lb. with packing materials makes a huge difference when it comes to shipping cost. I figured out how to reduce it, but can’t do this until my next large production run. Great content, thanks!
Spencer, I was one of the guys from EOY a few years ago. I told my kids about my tour and the things you said. These videos are important. So, I encourage you to keep making them.
Thanks for the encouragement! I’m definitely gonna keep going. If there’s anything I’ve learned from building Solo Stove, it’s that good things take time to build. Thanks for watching!
Hi Spencer. Thank you for this channel! I love your willingness to share your knowledge to help others find their way. I'm a new subscriber and I've watched a few videos but I haven't seen one that details your thought process that led to Solo Stove. This one talks about the general process, but I would love to know the specifics for that product. If that video exists, please tell me which one and if not, please consider making it. Thanks again!
thanks for making this video man, i've been trying to transition to ecommerce with my partner and its super frustrating since all the videos and courses out there talk about strategies and dropshipping from china when they completely ignore the fact that the most important thing about the business is the product lol. Could NOT find info on this anywhere else , glad to have finally found this vid & your channel :)
@@SpencerJan Wow this is a blessing Spencer for real, feel like I just landed on Dagobah! How would you position yourself or challenge a Goliath in the Niche you are in if they have already positioned themselves well throughout the market and are seemingly unchallengable. I am selling myself but the majority of income comes from full stack / full service consulting / I operate every aspect of their business. The client has bought a BBQ brand called Rustler in Germany before I joined. The main competitor is Weber. Rustler has solid products and listing quality and both needs to be improved with the next run. They have no grill as a flagship product. How would you position yourself from a branding and design perspective? THANK YOU - May you get millions of subs!!!!

Thanks Spencer for another good video. I think one of the biggest hurdles for product development is the cost associated with custom creation of jigs to manufacture your product. Curious to know your thoughts and tips/tricks. Thanks.
Negotiate to amortize the cost of the tooling into the products. For instance, if the tooling cost $20,000, pay an extra $5 for each unit for the first 4000 units. Then ask for a credit (up to you how much) for the $20k you ended up paying after you hit a certain volume... say 10,000 units. You can get creative. Another way is to run a presale on your site so you get cash up front to help with tooling costs. Just gotta get creative. Hope that helps!
I have a little product, a day/ week planner organiser tool, and i have a whole collection of matching pieces, desk oriented minimalist tools. Im making them now just to bulk, just wondering how i go about the next step, its kinda in the style of luxery decor pieces.
Hi Spencer, I just bumped into your channel tonight and love your style and free sharing of knowledge. I am in between jobs and am exploring online business ideas, I am interested in importing shoes into the U.S. from Asia. What do you think of this business? Do you have an email address?
I’m watching this video because I’ve designed a better bootstrap and I need help bootstrapping this bootstrap business.

Sounds like you just need to start selling! Amazon, Shopify... just start doing and you'll quickly fill up your list of to-do's
At what stage should you patent a product?
As early as you can! Best to do it before you actually sell it in the market. Better yet, apply for patents before you go to manufacturing
Did you quit? What are you working on these days?
Just taking a break...content creation can feel like a grind. Hope to be back making videos in the future!
I just got monetized on Facebook reels. The ease and bar to entry is much lower.
