Big Block Chevy Powered Chevette - Overkill?

  • I've seen this car around for a few years, but this is the first I've seen it running. It's a 1976 Chevette that had a full restoration. It also received a big block Chevy, all while keeping it's original 13'' tires and wheels. It was carefully modified so that there is no obvious modifications pointing to the engine swap. Stock interior, stock shifter, stock hood.

    I love, love, LOVE, that the engine is tucked in so discreetly that it keeps the original hood line. No scoops, no nothing... PERFECTION.

    The skinny wheels make this perfect!! It's not designed as a drag car. This is a pure fun "Because We Can" build.

  • @UnusualTastes
    @UnusualTastes 8 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    I love that it looks completely stock. They even held back on the wheels, which is the one place "sleepers" usually drop the ball (I understand it makes them safer but that's not what a sleeper is really for, is it?). The only hint might be the red stripes on the wheels and that's really subtle. Oh and the sound! haha

      Redline tires were not available as a factory option on Chevettes... They weren't available on any car in 1976.

    I've seen it in person at Englishtown Auto Show. Stock looking right down to the tailpipe. The restoration & finish here is as good as it gets -- if not better than most show cars. Then you see what's under the hood -- GRAND SLAM!!!

    A 502 and a 427 share the same block dimensions, so they take up the same amount of physical space. When I saw this car being built, I was told it had a much larger motor, like a 632ci, but I didn't speak to the owner to get the exact displacement. I do believe it is larger than a 427, even though that is what sticker is on it.

    This has been done before, the original Camaro, the Chevy2 and Corvette were never intended to have any bigger than an Inline Six. It was those certain mechanics at certain dealerships that were just crazy enough to not only wonder what would happen if they added a V-8 but actually did it. Then it was so popular that people started asking for them from the Companies. The Companies said yes, the rest is History.

    what kind of mods under the hood did you have to make to make that engine fit? I have a connection for a 80 chevette and want to put like a 305 V8 in it and have AC too, but also use the 700 r 4 trans so it glides on the interstate
