@@MichaelAguilar-vj2nrHear ya son. I loved the funny cars at Connecticut Dragway back in the late 60’s and 70’s as a “Chevy guy”. What bugged me about Chevies in the Funny Car class? They would always (454’s) blow up. I was a fan of Jungle Jim Lieberman that ran a Nova. His team had enough of blown motors and switched over to a hemi! So… I have a lotta respect for Mopar, they have won tons of races and without spinning bearings, bending valves or springs!!!🥴

The old Mopar cars had some really good body styling and the Dart was one of my favs. I still have my first car that I got when I was 16. It's a 1970 Nova coupe that originally had inline 230 6 and a three speed. Saved my money up and my dad and I swapped in a 327 and Muncie 4 speed. I will probably do some kind of stroker in it even though the 327 has beem a really good motor, It just never had a lot of low end torque.

When I was a High School kid in the late 70's, I'd drive the 1 1/2 hours from my house to Maple Grove raceway and race brackets on the weekends. If I was winning, the races would go till 10 or so at night. It gets pretty cold in October / November up in the mountains, so instead of taking the ramps out of my trunk and putting the exhaust back on the open headers, I'd drive home, down the Pennsylvania Turnpike with open headers, then get back to my house around midnight or later with the open headers...I was the youngest guy in the neighborhood, so I was always the topic of conversation... 🙂

I think everyone is nervous at this point. I know I was after I installed my Brenspeed supercharger. 76 pages of instructions later after 6 days of work I was almost ready. Last couple of things were filling the new cooling system for the supercharger and loading the new tune into the ECU. It was a pretty complex job for a person doing it for the first time. More electrical work than I expected, right down to moving some wire locations on the EUC connector. There were 3 ECU connectors and the smallest one was something like 40 pins. De-pinning and moving some of those wires to new pin locations in one of the large connectors was way more than I had bargained for. There were other connectors that required de-pinning and moving wires around. There was new wiring for the new boost-a-pump and the coolant pump for the supercharger. New intake manifold, new throttle body, new fuel rails, new spark plugs, new belt system, an additional radiator, supercharger head-unit and new tune. So much to go wrong. Turning the key for the first time was a nail biter. So many things running through my head. It started on the first turn of the key. I let it run for 20 minutes, checking for leaks, over-heating, smoke out of the exhausts. Nothing.
So, I put the front bumper back on plus all the other parts that connected to it and took it out for a test run on the freeway. Everything was going good, so I gave it half throttle and suddenly I could smell coolant and steam was piling out from under the hood. I started back home, keeping a close eye on the cylinder head temp gauge. When it got high enough to go into limp mode, I shut it down to cool. I nursed it back to the near-by gas station, where I typically bought my gas. Been there hundreds of times. The woman would not lend me a bucket to fill the rad!! Company policy. No lending out tools, not even the floor washing bucket. Not even if I gave her $60 to keep until I brought the bucket back. I had to continue on, low on coolant
Thereafter, I shut it down before it went into limp mode. I was about 3 minutes from home normally. 45 minutes later it was back in the garage. There was coolant all over the engine. Impossible to see the source. So I filled it back up with coolant, so I could see where it was leaking from. No luck. It wasn’t leaking. WTF?
I called a friend to look in the engine bay while I ran the throttle. Still no leak! Then I gave it a good dose of throttle a bam, coolant everywhere. A clip-on coolant connector was the culprit. Only this time it came right off, so we could see where the leak came from. After clipping it back on and refilling the coolant again, we ran another test. No leak.
Of all the things I did, to install that supercharger, I must have not fully engaged that one clip. I must have pushed down only hard enough to get one side of the clip, clipped down. So there was no leak, except under lots of throttle. Just that one little thing and I could have cooked that engine. I tried not to think of all the other things I could have made a tiny, but fatal mistake on.
Took me hours to wash all that smelly coolant out of the engine bay.

Glad to see it moving under it's own power! Sounds great! Can't wait for your first track day video.
On a side note. When I built my first race 340 for my 71 Demon back in 1973 I really pissed of my old next door neighbor when I fired it up and broke in the flat tappet cam. He was like a grandfather to me but that day he hated my guts! He was a big man and he ran over and told me to shut it off! I said I couldn't. He didn't know about cam break in? I thought he was going to pull me out through the window! He actually died that summer from a heart attack. I felt bad but it had to be done. He never spoke to me again. My mom wasn't too happy either.😂

Could there be a manufacturing fault though? I know that it's possible: even Volkswagen group had problems with their aluminum wheels leaking air...through the aluminum!! They had manufacturing defects in their production with the material itself ending up being too porous which leads to letting air through the seemingly intact wheels!

Man, this is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen! I loved my 68 Dart but the interior was in rough shape, just two bucket seats, sheet metal where the back seat used to be, a 6 point roll cage and the dashboard was in rough shape. The guy that I got it from cut the factory wheel wells out and I didn't have the money to narrow the rear end and do custom wheel tubs like I wanted so we just riveted sheet metal inside the trunk and where the back seat used to be so it would pass tech inspection. The factory trunk lid hinges were gone so I installed Dzus buttons to hold it on. It also had a 15 gallon fuel cell in the trunk. I had a 1971 440 that I bought out of a Chrysler Newport. I made a big mistake, I took the block, crank and rods to the machine shop and trusted them, I didn't write down the serial number on my block and didn't pay attention and about a year and a half later after I had built it and raced it all that time I noticed I had a truck block. I've always wondered how much more compression my engine would've had with the 71 car block. I also never did much to the heads, a friend of my brother's ported the 906 heads that were on it, I simply hand lapped the valves and installed the valve springs that came with my cam kit. I didn't know much about engines when I built it, the pistons were forged TRW's but I don't remember much about them other than that. I remembered thinking it was going to be about 11:1 but with that truck block somebody told me it would be much lower. It definitely wasn't 11:1, that's for sure! It had a 558/296 (advertised duration) solid flat tappet cam, Weiand tunnel ram, two Holley 660 center squirter carbs, 727 tranny with the heavy duty bands, full manual valve body, 3500 stall converter and a 410 posi. I never raced eighth mile, it ran 12.01 @ 112 MPH on the motor and 11.23 @ 117 MPH on a 150 shot of nitrous. I wish I had known then what I know now about engines... THAT'S FOR SURE! But it was sure fun building it, racing it on the street and the drag strip! I still think you should try a tunnel ram, it would be interesting. I'd love to send you a picture of my car but I don't know how so I made it the banner picture on my channel but you can't see it very well. Thanks for another great video, you have a beautiful car, that's for sure!

Put a cam and pipes in my 1970 Challenger when I was 17.... Finished about 1:00 AM.... had to thread the pipes through the suspension and idler arms on the driver side.

I got yelled at pretty good!

I think the best part of the round the block trip was rolling back down the driveway - and seeing the flames out the sides!
Got up at 9 the next (or current) day - ran the thrush mufflers and cross pipes I had ordered - went out to family vaca house by 12...
Really cant do that now a days....
      Especially not on my "tesla"
I miss that part of good old American muscle
